I'm reading the book "Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead" by Brene Brown with my Bible study group.

The title comes from a Teddy Roosevelt speech from 1910:
"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly..."

I just wanted to share because as I am working through the book and diving deep into issues of shame, vulnerability, empathy, connection and just being, I am finding so much baggage to shed. It's little things I hold on to without realizing it...little hurts, offenses, mistakes, or wrongs that all add up quickly and weigh me down without me knowing it consciously. As I am letting things go, processing my own habits with shame and vulnerability, and making conscious changes I am finding more simple joys. I am breathing deeper and slowing down in the time I have with my family to really be present, feel and connect. And that sense of better connection breeds more joy, satisfaction with life.

It's another path to happiness!

School is almost over here! 2 more days...it's been a very tough year for my kids. So as soon as the school bus drops them off on Friday we are leaving for the beach!

I guess I'd define happiness about the same way you do! It's not about luxury or excitement but about contentedness, acceptance and peace.

How do you define happiness?

Right now I think happiness is being at peace and enjoying whatever it is that one is doing -- enjoying the moment.

Is it possible to happy all the time? I guess it depends on one's definition of happiness.

This month I am working on being aware of my negative thoughts and assumptions. I was surprised how many times I wanted to choose to not do what I needed to do -- procrastination?



Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.
Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts.
Drop judgment and pick up love.
If you can move a grain of sand a day, eventually you will move a mountain.
Crappy choices bring crappy feelings.
Can'ts are joy limiters.

Wise words! Sometimes that's pretty hard to do, but for sure it's more peaceful. That's a good article to have in mind as the stressful holiday season starts. I don't have any family drama these days but I can still learn from that article, thanks for posting!

During December I am working on the suggestions in the above article.

1. Look for the positive. I came from a family that always looked for worst possible outcome.
When I find myself stressing, I am fearing the worst. Once I change my thoughts to a positive and more realistic outcome, stress evaporates.
