Just home from three weeks away--visiting family and taking in a 14-day Caribbean cruise. Got some new weight to loose, of course! Walked this morning and had a good healthy weight-loss breakfast. Should be back in the proper weight range well before Christmas.

P90X Week 2, Day 2: cardio. Great workout! Down 3 pounds from Monday. It's hard to get enough calories given the break-downs P90X recommends. My metabolism doesn't like getting so many of my calories from protein and dairy. I have to take more carbohydrates to get enough calories.

Day 4 of P90X. Yoga. I could complete only 40 minutes of the 90-minute workout. Yoga is strenuous!!!!!!! Probably should have hydrated better before and during. That's OK. I'm a beginner. I'll get better.

MNABOY, my wife has a really bad back so I googled exercising with a bad back. There are lots of full-body workouts a person can do that don't aggravate back problems. You're right, though, core work will strengthen your back.

Seems I am in a rut, avoiding full-out exercise due to back distress. Need to work on core.
Did P90X first session today. Lean version, core synergistics workout. I was able to do at least some reps of every exercise, and full reps of most.

Weighing in tomorrow morning to set a baseline for a new few weeks of dedication to weight loss and fitness. Will I try a unit of P90X? I think I will. Probably just a week of Synergistics at a very basic level for starters. Wish me well.

Back home after a couple of weeks away and off the nutrition and exercise regimes. Up 4 lbs. Not too bad for two weeks of less-than-ideal eating and exercise activities.

I was out to eat three times since my last weigh-in. Even though I try to limit what I eat when I go out to resemble what I would allow myself at home, eating out usually adds a couple hundred calories to that day's intake. I'll do my weigh-in tomorrow, but I'm anticipating that any weight loss this week will be less than it would have been if I'd eaten all three meals at home.

. . . AND, sometimes having rewarded yourself with a nice treat like that dinner, you are ready to hit the program with even more commitment! Besides, don't some fitness and nutrition writers suggest that tricking your body every once in a while with an off-the-program day of eating suppresses the 'starvation' impulse that can develop if the body senses it is going without some fat etc. consistently?

Wife and I went out for dinner last night at the neighbors. This was to celebrate a new pergola and picnic tables I built for them. The setting was grand, with too much food and wine and lively conversation. Sometimes you just have to break the rules.

Have lost 32 pounds since start of the year but have been stuck on this weight for a while. Not to worry, have been playing tennis 5 and 6 times a week and the weight loss has been good for my game.

short of time today, did 2.5 km, then the pilates and pull-ups. disappointing weigh-in today--no lbs gone since Monday. Heading into two very hectic weeks so sticking to exercise and sound eating goals will be very challenging.

Couldn't walk my usual 5 km route as it's full of graders, an excavotor and a whole herd of dumptrucks. Brisk-walked for about 40 around a hayfield instead. I think I got almost as good a workout, walking through stubble and short new hay growth is akin to walking in loose sand! Did the core body workout and 40 pull-ups as per usual. Almost half of my pull-ups were good form, even! Tony Horton would not be pleased : ) : ) : )

Wonderful to see you here, J.! One thing SparkPeople is really good about is stressing it's never too late to try again : ) For myself today, it's a day off today. I usually walk 5 km in under 40 minutes, do a 15-minute pilates core body workout, and do 4 sets of 10 pull-ups. I'm trying to get from woefully unfit and slightly above my ideal weight to fit enough to try Tony Horton's P90X program to put some shape to my body. I've completed my 3rd week of a goal of one full month of my routine before going on to something more strenuous.

I'm returning for my second "serious" run on SparkPeople. During the first one, I lost over 25 pounds in three months by tracking my calorie intake and controlling portion size and by regular cardio sessions on a treadmill.
Two years later -- with the 25 pounds, plus, back on -- I've signed up for Silver Sneakers at our local health club and I'm controlling my diet via the Isagenix "nutritional cleansing" program: essentially, two protein shakes, one regular-food meal, and several supplements per day. And an increase in water consumption: at least 10 glasses per day.
In my first three days on Isagenix, my calorie intake has been 1200, 1200, and 1500 [dinner at a freind's house last night, lol]. I'm starting slowly with the Silver Sneakers program: 30 min/day on an exercise bike to burn about 200 calories, at least five days a week.
My long-term goal is to move my BMI from "obese" to "normal." That translates into a 60-pound weight reduction.

So. Went out for a wonderful dinner last night with my wife and kids to celebrate her birthday. Delicious food, rich, and of course too much. I'll have to really go for minimum servings with no wasted calories today if my weigh-in on Monday is to be a good news weigh-in!!!! I will get in a fairly vigorous walk pushing my grandson in his stroller for a couple or three kilometres, which will help.

Great 5km walk outdoors in the early morning sunshine today. 37:37 was my time. Down a lb from Monday, but it's a lb I'd gained last weekend, so it doesn't change my graph. If I'm *really* careful all weekend, *maybe, maybe* I'll stay at this weight till Monday and then next week I can be super-conscientious about both calories and exercise. I just want to go down 3 more lb, please! I'd love to be under 150 lb for my 64th birthday in October . . . .

Back from vacation, part deux. Did 30 minutes of total body free weight exercises, 30 minutes of cardio. Really need to start doing my cardio outside. Inside cardio is way too distracting. Heading to the park for a 30 minute walk.

I'm still on the program! Walked my 5 km in 43 minutes, did the pilates core-body routine and was able to stretch further and more comfortably than yesterday, made it up to 4 sets of 10 pull-ups: wide and narrow grip, forehand and reverse holds. I'm liking myself these days : )

Guess what, Guys. Having a hemorrhoidectomy does *not* result in immediate weight loss. Had mine yesterday. *Thankfully* I'm not having any significant discomfort today. Went for 3 walks, took in lots and lots of sun. It was a clear, hot (well, hot for us--72ºF in the shade), and wonderful day. Tomorrow I think the pool will be warm enough to use. Better and better! Once I'm fully recovered from the surgery, I'm joining the Early Morning Exercise Group and I'll work really hard at hitting my weight range (down 15 lb or so from current) in time for our daughter's wedding in August. Gotta love summer in the north!!!

Healthierken - Just so you know, I did not just jump into P90X and Insanity. I spent about 4-5 months using less intense programs from Beachbody such as Slim in 6, Power 90 and Power 90 Master Series.
Beachbody trainers and self ordained fitness "experts" will tell you to take the fitness test (comes with P90X and or Insanity), see where you are physically and choose the right P90X program (standard, lean, doubles, etc)for you, modifying the movements until you build up strength.
Personally, I don't agree. I was about 275 and out of shape when I started my journey back in the fall of 09 and I found that by using the beginning programs for a while before jumping to the advanced stuff was the right way to go for me.
Your decision of course, but there is no magic bullet to good health. Beachbody markets their products such that people think they will shed all that body fat and gain all that muscle in just 90 days. I have done Insanity twice and am on round 3 of P90X and I still have a ways to go.
It is all about adapting to a new lifestyle of better eating and working out consistently. Only when you are ready to commit to this, will you get the results you desire. My two cents anyway.
