Doesnít sound like fun, Dave. Be good to yourself.

Cold today. Never got above 29 degrees. Enough snow this morning to cover the ground. It never melted.

I was supposed to pick up a truckload of wood chips this morning but cancelled. I did a few easy jobs but mostly rested and read. After a light supper, Iím heading to bed.

Have a good Wednesday evening.

Another three inches of snow, but daytime temps are creeping above freezing, so not all bad.

Hello Fresh steaks last night and on that front, yet another country heard from. An email contained a "three free meal" coupon for Martha Stewart's online service. This is great because we tend to avoid eating out due to sodium content and I find these meal service preparations to be as good or better than most restaurant meals I've had. They also contain a pretty complete nutrition breakdown as well.

Regarding the medicos, I'm getting two hernias done on Valentine's day, one open surgery and one robotic. Not looking forward to the slicing of peepee skin or belly button skin, but I've put it off about as long as possible. Between now and then a return to the urologist and the dentist and afterward back to the eye surgeon. When it rains it pours. Thanks for the good wishes and extending the same to Glenn and his wife.

Another item of note, I think I'm about to drop the hammer on an i7 with all the toys and 64 gig of RAM. I have a bare drive cloning/docking station on the way, so cheap storage won't be a problem. Gotta' get these pics organized while I can still see to do it. Getting old is not for wimps... and I am one. Bwaaahhhh!

A very windy, but sunny morning here in Tucson. Should make my round of golf very interesting.

I looked up "Best" Chinese restaurant in Tucson. There were 15 listed, which is probably all we have. Two of those listed were Panda Express (fast food format). One was an all you can eat buffet call THE GREAT WALL! We decided on a place called Old Peking because it was on the way home from the clinic. DW had chicken and pea pods, I had walnut shrimp. Both were very good................ but we like another place called Bamboo Gardens a little better that closer to home.

Mexican food is the king here in Tucson. We have about 200 places to choose from. Most are very good!

It is hard to imagine Texas having that kind of cold snap. Yowza! Be safe, Ron.

I have three evening meetings this week. One down and two to go. I can't wait for Friday.

Wishing you the best in you doctor visits Glenn.

The sun is out but it's 19F @ 7 am with 10-15 mph winds. It's pretty icy outside and everything is closed down. High today is expected at 36F and another freeze tonight to the upper 20s.

Getting a little stir-crazy but things will return to normal tomorrow afternoon

Enjoy you Wednesday

Snowing and 32F / 0C, temps pretty much staying around freezing all day. Ground is covered but that should be about it.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, breakfast, work, strength training at the Y, and more work. Tonight: Spa pedicure and then leftover Italian from Sunday.

Happy hump day gents!

Now Iím hungry for Chinese food, Dennis. When we lived in DC, we often ordered out Chinese. When I was a vegan, I loved bean curd with brown bean sauce. When our kitchen was being renovated in DC, which turned out to take months, we lived off of Chinese food deliveries. Here there is only one Chinese restaurant, it is 15 minutes away, and I donít really like their food. Youíd think a college town, like Chestertown, Md., would have a decent Chinese restaurant.

Beautiful day today. 41 degrees. I worked outside some today without a jacket. Temperatures are going down overnight and it will be colder tomorrow with light snow.

Enjoy your Tuesday evening.

Just got back in from loading the bird feeders and filling up the bird baths. Also watered the plants.

I used to hate winter. Now that I am in Tucson, not so much. However, I still hate frigid cold weather, snow and ice on roads, driving in a snow storm. Last time I was in those conditions was 11 months ago, before the big retirement move. Cool, but comfortable today with a high of 70 F and lots of clear, sunny skies. Will be taking DW to her 2 pm rheumatologist appointment today on the other side of town, about 45 min. drive. Maybe grab an early dinner out after the appointment? We will see. Think'n Chinese.

Great picture Patrick. . . She's beautiful

Dave, sending you good wishes on your Doctor's visit.

It's cooling off in the Houston are too! 32F this morning and that is the high for today. Expecting 27F by noon. It's windy with light rain that will turn to sleet and snow later today. Just about everything is shut down because we're not equipped to deal with icy weather.

Other than the icy roads, the other main concern is power outages since most power lines are overhead. On the bright side, weíre expecting temperatures in the 70s on Saturday!

On tap today: working out at home and avoiding the icy roadways

Enjoy your Tuesday; it will be a long couple of days at home here.

Sunny skies but not quite as chilly -- 27F / -3C, heading to the low 40's. Snow moving in tonight, but not a big storm - an inch or two maybe.

On tap for today: Yoga for abs here at home, breakfast, work, pick up new E-Z Pass transponders (our current ones are like 15 years old and have stop registering!), run, and more work. Tonight: League bowling. Had two weeks of improved scores, hoping to keep the momentum up.

Have a terrific Tuesday gents!

Cooling off today, high of 53F. Yeah, my life is rough.

Back to work today. The full-time faculty come back today for four days of professional development training and prep for classes that start next Monday. My last grad school class starts today. Meeting tonight for a committee that I'm on for the local high school.

I may only be working 4 days, but I'll easily clock more than 40 hours.

Happy Tuesday!

Hope the doctorís visit went well, Dave.

Just back from making remarks at an MLK Day event over your way, Patrick, in the Dover area. It was an honor to be asked.

28 degrees but pleasant outside. Going up to 41 tomorrow.

Iím home. The animals are fed. DW is at a church trustees meeting. The house smells like freshly baked bread.

I hope your Sunday evening is as pleasant.

I agree with you Dean. I have a full set of cast iron pans.

A little warmer today, 39F this morning and clear as a bell. The high on this windless day is expected at 65F. Cooler weather is expected for the next few days.

My father was deeply involved in the human (civil) rights movement. So, I was well informed but pretty confused too. By default, I was involved. I was also eligible for the draft during that time and I'm not talking NFL or NBA.

I love red wine too--but I'm not a collector just a drinker. Merlot and cabernet are my favs.

On tap today: Finished my morning walk/run and headed to yoga at 10AM. Spending the rest of the day with my 2 grandsons who have the day off.

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

I'm reading a book by Burt Solomon titled "The Washington Century". It covers twentieth-century politics and social life in DC from the perspective of three families, a Jewish developer, a civil rights activist, and a political family (Didjaknow that Hale Boggs was the father of Cokie Roberts?). The twinings in that city are just amazing. Looking forward to "The Post". Being a Libertarian doesn't give me much say in government, but it does make political scandal a lot more enjoyable regardless of which major party suffers it.

Back in the deep freeze here for the next few days. Twenty degrees and sunny right now with a temp of twenty. I know the one block walk to church this morning was quite brisk. The next few days will temper a bit with highs in the thirties and then a few more days in the forties and fifties. Enjoy the day!

Dennis, 700 bottles! What a collection. I hope it wasn't too painful to sell so many before the move. Do you have a favorite varietal? I'm a fan of full-bodied reds like Cabernet (both Sauvignon and Franc) and Zinfandel. We have one winery here that specializes in Italian grapes - I love their aglanico, montepulciano, and primitivo wines. Surprisingly inexpensive too - most bottles under $20. Lake County is an up-and-coming wine region and starting to compete with our neighbors to the south (Napa and Sonoma).

I would love to see The Post. I need to see All the President's Men again - it's been years. The timeliness of that time with today is jarring.

I have a little curriculum work to do today and some preparation work to get ready for my last official grad school class that begins on Tuesday. It's going to be a little cooler today - high of 62F - but still a nice day to be outside.

I hope those of you in chillier spots are staying safe in the cold!

Ron, I was a confused teenager during the years the POST is filmed. I could not decide which side to take, the anti war demonstrators or the President. I also did not take time to understand the Civil Rights movement. World changing events were taking place and I sat on the sidelines. So sad. I was too busy playing football and chasing girls. That was the REALLY important stuff!
lol

Steve, I am a wino too. Red wine is my passion. A couple of years prior to my move to Tucson my cellar contained over 700 bottles of red. I stopped buying, dropped out of wine clubs and sold some of my wine so that all I had to handle was about 120 bottles for the move. After 10 months in Tucson I am down to about 75 bottles of some very great wine. I now have to buy the less expensive, every day wine in order to save the good stuff for special occasions. Some of those bottles will age just fine over the next 20 to 30 years, they are that good.

Dean, you will probably get a better price for you product this summer. I am sure your competitors are not dealing with this winter's challenges as well as you are!

35F at 8am, a little windy and clear. Headed to the mid-50s today. A nice winter day for Southeast Texas.

On tap today: church and home to watch some football.

Seen "The Post" yesterday. Surprisingly suspenseful and I enjoyed it. When these events occurred, I was a high school senior or college freshmen and it made quite an impression. And while the movie takes some artistic license with historical facts, the gist of the story is quite contemporary.

Enjoy your Sunday. If you're a NFL football fan, I hope your team wins--unless they're playing against the New Orleans Saints.

29 degrees, going down to 19 tonight. Things are going to get pretty icy.

We had a little panic when we got home from the conference today. The propane heater in the propagating green house was off, so DW assumed weíd run out of propane. She was trying to hook up a little electric heater to keep from losing our seedlings. After I finished feeding the animals, I grabbed the flashlight and checked the tank. We werenít nearly out so we got the heater going again. Our next task in there is to start about 100 more tomato seedlings to plant in our high tunnel. But this weather is making it both hard and more expensive.

Sundayís coming.

Well, the snow was a fail. We did get a couple little ice balls, but that was it. It got cold, but not till after the rain ended. It's twenty-five and clear right now. Tonight's low will be ten. I guess I'll postpone the migration till later. Wishing all a pleasant Saturday, indoors or out!

The forecast high for today is 67F. You wouldn't know it to look outside right now, the fog is so thick I can only see about 100 feet out the window. The pelicans are putting on quite a show this morning; a reminder that we can handle any kind of weather. I think January is turning into my favorite month for watching the nature show outside.

We are going to one of our wine clubs today to pick up a shipment and grocery shopping. We might go for a hike this afternoon when the skies clear. It's that kind of day.

Happy Saturday!

On tap for today: breakfast, run, heading to Wilmington DE for a party, but we are staying at a Holiday Inn up there. That way we can enjoy the party and the short drive back to the hotel. Tomorrow we plan to go see Marley at home so yet another reason to be up in Wilmington.

Congratulations on your new granddaughter Patrick!

31F this morning but not so windy. It's going to be a sunny day with a high in the low to mid 40s.

Slept in this morning-taking my rest day a day early. I haven't decided what I going to put-off today but I probably catch an early movie (either "The Post " or "The Commuter") while procrastination something my DW wants me to do.

Have a great Saturday!

Oh my, January's winter weather is taking it's toll on most of you. Have not you suffered already a winter's worth of cold and snow?

Tucson is headed for a record 79 F high today. Clear skies and gentle winds, of course. Having a cook out on our patio with grilled salmon and shrimp.

Patrick Congrats!!!! Beautiful!!!!!

For common knowledge................... a nice home next to me is for sale, just say'n.

Enjoy, Patrick. She is beautiful.

We just got back from the Future Harvest/Chesapeake Area Sustainable Agriculture conference in College Park, Md. We are commuting so we donít have to ask anyone to tend our animals. An hour and a half each way isnít fun but it is manageable ... except both evenings there has been a major backup at the bay bridge when we were trying to get home. Today the trip home took over 3 hours. Four and 1/2 hours commuting today! By next year, we need to find a teenager we can pay to feed our animals.

Amazing weather. High of 64 today and low of 36. Tomorrow night it goes down to 16. Not as sudden a swing as yours, Dave, but still crazy.

We make one more trip to College Park tomorrow. Be well, gentlemen.

I hear rain and put some recycling out back and it seemed even warmer than was called for, so I clicked on the weather to see what's up. It is currently *sixty-nine degrees*, cloudy with intermittent showers... then I notice the exclamation point that indicates an advisory. I figured it's gonna' get windy because of a cooling trend. HELLO!! It's going to start raining again around five and rain all evening. Then it stops? Nooooo..... it changes to freaking snow and snows all night. By ten Saturday morning, we'll have snow accumulation and the temp will be *nineteen flippin' degrees*!! Fifty degrees drop overnight... bwaaaaaaaaahhh! Dennis, are there any for sale signs in your community?

Wait... belay that question. I can't move there no matter how nice the weather. Don't you realize those pigs are organizing? Have you noticed they're growing larger than normal? Is anyplace on earth safe? Does anybody think I've watched "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" once too often? That's it.... all these problems were started by John DeBello! No, it goes back farther than that. I was first traumatized by the original "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Now I fear for Dean. Those things looked like cabbages! Make it stop!

Okay, I'm done. G'day all!

emoticon

PS - Congrats Patrick!

Our granddaughter was born yesterday! Marley Grace, 6.6 lb, 20 inches of pure beauty! Here's my first chance to hold her:

Golf this morning, getting ready to head out.

Steve last week we were coming back from dinner out with our holiday guests. When I pulled into the driveway, my son noticed some movement in the small front yard next to my home. I pulled back and positioned my car so that the headlights illuminated the dark yard. We saw a pack of 12 Javelina rooting for sprouts under the typical gravel cover of the yard. We spooked them and they slowing began to move..... we followed them(in our car) down to a wash area just off the road, about three homes to the south.
When we returned (really) we saw another 8 javelina walk slowing thru the yard, then my yard. following the others to the wash. That is the most javelina that I have seen in any one pack. There was a tiny baby in the group, so we gave them all extreme respect.
Here is a photo of one that I took several months ago back in the wash behind our yard.

Patrick, congratulations on the new granddaughter. She's beautiful!

Dennis, that was some injury to that woman from the javelina. I didn't realize they could be so aggressive. The deer here have been out and about. They seem to be getting less timid of humans, which doesn't bode well for them.

It's supposed to be 60F here today. Yesterday was forecast at 57F, but the cloud cover definitely didn't make it feel that warm.

I wish SP wouldn't chide me for being under my calories for the day. Isn't that supposed to be a good thing? I'm back on track, baby!

Happy Friday - 3-day weekend ahead for me!

33F, clear with a 20MPH wind. Tough walking outside so I'm headed to the gym for Pilates and elliptical machine.

First time I heard of a javelina attack. I thought these animals were shy and timid but I guess if you get too close to their little ones they'll defend them. We have feral hogs around here, and alligators. They taste pretty good if you know how to cook em!

Happy Friday!

Just above fifty with cloudy skies at walk time. Dennis, our wildlife population is pretty typical for Mid-Atlantic semi-urban areas. Common birds, squirrels, Canada geese, Mallards, turtles, and an occasional snake or errant water bird like the Great Blue Heron. I had to look up Javelina. I would have known him by Peccary. Apparently, they make a pretty good pork chop.

G'day all!

Thank goodness for yesterday's rain. It was not fun to play golf in it..... and low temps and wind, but as a bonus I got my exercise in by walking most of the course.

Thursday is chores and errands.

A small pack of Javelina attacked a woman yesterday in N. Tucson. It was reported that she was taken to the hospital with a puncture wound to the shoulder. Oh, her dog was also badly injured. We have lots of dog walkers and lots of Javelina in our "wildlife habitat" community. Over the past 20 years there has never been a resident attacked by a Javelina. There have been "encounters" but without injuries. One needs to keep their dog under control, especially if there is a small yearling in the pack. We give ALL Javelina a wide separation. They never attack unless provoked.

Patrick--wishing the best to your daughter and your first grandchild. I have 9 Grands and I like them more than I like my kids. :)

61F this morning -- waiting for the rains to start and the cold front to move into the area. Expecting temperatures to drop to the upper 30s this afternoon with a significant and clearing skies.

Finished my morning walk/run by 7AM. Now, I'm ready for the day. I've successfully procrastinated the yard work for another day but my time is steadily running out. Maybe after this cold snap?!?!

It's Thursday - a great day for golf -- but isn't everyday?

Good work day yesterday, but bad food day. I will be back in the groove today. High of 57F. I'm worried that we're not getting a decent amount of winter weather. We need rain! Just not so much that mudslides happen.

Nice weather today. High hit 41.

I did get the irrigation timer hooked up in the high tunnel today ... and there was more work for me to do. A chunk of the day was taken up with dealing with a flat tire on the tractor.

Tomorrow I head to College Park, Md., to attend the first day of the CASA/ Future Harvest annual conference. Iíll be attending workshops on how to accept SNAP (food stamps) and farmers market coupons at our farmers market stand. Hopefully this will give families who need them better access to our vegetables.

Have a good Wednesday night.

It was up around forty and sunny this afternoon when I took my walk. Nice again tomorrow, then a day of rain and then back in the freezer.

Got a coupon for $30 off from Blue Apron today, so we've got another discounted week of Hello Fresh coming, then Blue Apron and then maybe try Freshly for $39. I don't know that I could feed us that well for about $6.50 a meal by going to the grocery store? Add on the variety and it's a cinch decision. If they keep sending the coupons, we'll keep "biting".

G'night all!

High of 51F today and slight chance of showers. No real rain in the forecast until a week from tomorrow.

My boss and I will be spending the day at the campus 40 miles away for an all day meeting with college leadership to plan out the semester ahead. I hope it's a worthwhile day.

Rained last night - 1/ 4 to 1/2 inch. We REALLY needed it! There may be more on the way this morning, but I intend to golf. Will take my umbrella and wind breaker. Yea, I am passionate about my golf.

Dean, the irrigation system will take a load off your chores............. until you find something else to do.

Sunny skies here on the eastern side of the Delmarva, 25F / -4C, heading to the low 40's.

A busy day on tap for today: AM yoga here at home, breakfast, work, strength training at the Y, and more work. I get my first performance review since coming back to IBM today. This is a bit of a different system then when I last had one on in 2015. We'll see how it all works out.

Tonight: We are heading up to SE PA (West Chester PA area). My oldest daughter will be admitted sometime this evening to Chester County hospital and they will administer a "light" inducement hormone to begin the birthing process. Her doctor is not sure if this will actually start labor. If it has not begun tomorrow morning then they will bring out the "good" stuff. In any case, our first grandchild, Marley, should be making her way into this world very soon!

52F and cloudy this morning with a heavy fog. The clouds will stick around all day with a high them in the mid-60s.

Slept in this morning - headed to the gym in a few minutes for yoga, elliptical and strength training. Still cleaning up in my back yard--should finish today . . . or not.

Flu epidemic, fires, hurricanes, floods ,severe winter weather, and mudslides-- difficult times for many people in the US. My thoughts and prayers to all affected.

Denny, we had the same reaction when we moved from Washington, DC, to the Chestertown, Md., area. You never got into an doctor appointment less than 1/2 hour after the appointment time ...often more... in DC. It is totally different here.

Going down to 23 tonight and then it will not go below freezing again the rest of the week. I am hoping to set up our timed irrigation system in the high tunnel for the rest of the week.

Have a great Tuesday evening.

Dave..................nicely done!
George - hopes and prayers for your wife's operation. Modern medicine usually conquers now-a-days. Think positive!

I am totally amazed with how professional and how "on time" the medical profession behaves in Tucson. They urge you to come 15 min. early. Most of the time they take you from the wait room within five minutes of your early arrival. Like today. I had an 8:30 am appointment with my Cardiologist. Was done and out the door to my car at 8:50 am. So, to kill a little time between appointmtnes I went to CostCo to pick up the "on sale" stuff that we needed Was at the dentists 15 min. early for a 10 am crown install. They took me back at 9:50 am and was done and out the door at 10:05 am. Amazing!!

Oh, here is one for Dave: Ruby Tuesday, Stones This Tuesday is a gem for me.

Forty-four degrees! Sunny skies! No precip! Wow! I'll get a walk in today!

Hello Fresh was waiting when I looked out the front door. This time we got no chicken, just pork. I asked that they release our unused chicken into the wild and they did it for us. He had no answer when they asked, "What's Your Name". He's now a "Free Bird". They said he headed for his "Sweet Home Alabama" where it's supposed to get into the sixties this week. He's being stealthy though. He doesn't wanna end up as the "Saturday Night Special" and land in "Double Trouble". When asked if he was a happy chicken to be selected for a pardon, his last words as he half scurried and half flew into the distance.... "You Got That Right"!

Thank you, Lynyrd Skynyrd for having enough Hot 100 singles to make a story of and thank you, Ron, for the sucker bait. I always bite on the crafty lures.

Hey George, sending well wishes and quick recovery to you wife on her upcoming surgery.

45F this morning and mostly sunny. Expecting to reach the mid-60s.

Finished my morning walk/run. On tap today: taking my truck to the shop for regular maintenance and to check out and repair a squeaking fan belt. It started squealing during the cold weather but hasn't stopped now that it warmed up. A pain!!! Maybe Iíll just trade the truck for one with a new fan belt.

Thanks, Ron and Dave - now I'm going to have to pull out my Mamas and Papas Greatest Hits CD. I loved their harmonies. Cass left us way too soon.

It's going to be a relatively comfortable 53F today, the rain is still falling. I heard one report that we got 3 inches yesterday. I won't complain; it has been too long since we had a good rain.

Regular day on tap for today - I'm ready for another healthy day!
