Nighttime and early morning showers are over. Partial sun (which is more than we've seen for a while) is predicted for the rest of the day with temperatures maybe hitting 80 degrees here on the eastern shore of Maryland. I planted, weeded, and mulched yesterday. They were so muddy I had to hose my jeans off at the end of the day. Tired of mud but it may be gone for a while. My wife is going to spend the day working outside with me so we will see what tasks rise to the top of the list. Lots of options.

Have a great day.

Rain is forecast for around noon today. Shouldn't be a problem; I'll be inside most of the day. High of 68F. It will be back in the 80s by Thursday.

I'm getting caught up with projects at work, but still need to finalize the end-of-year budget. That will be one of my primary tasks for the next week or so.

Time for some exercise!

Sunny and 61F / 16C, heading to the mid 70's with a slight (20%) chance of showers. Trending towards very warm temps later in the week here on the Delmarva.

After a crazy past 3 days dealing with doggie health issues, today should be a bit more "normal" (whatever that is!). DW is working at home today so that is helping the normalcy! On tap: Abs yoga here at home, breakfast, work, trip to local apothecary to get some of my male greyhound Tomas' meds converted to liquid, trip to landfill to get rid of some bulk trash, more work. Tonight: Depends on how Tomas is doing. He seems to be on the mend after switching to a prescription dog food. If he is doing fine, we may run to the beach to see DW's parents and have dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant at the beach. If not, no shortage of stuff to do around the house.

Have a terrific Tuesday gents!

68F at 7:15a.m. in the Ozarks. 80F later with a possibility for light rain.

More writing today.

Summer semester starts on 6/6. It will be my last summer semester. I plan on not going to 'mandatory' faculty meetings (gag), pre-posting my syllabus, and setting up my on-line testing site. In fact there will be no on-line Speech tests this Summer.

It's the Day Before Hump Day - meh.

Just 62F today, tomorrow it might reach 68F but more thunderstorms are coming.

Had to finish grading papers this morning, so I'm posting late. Today was the last day of the semester, tomorrow starts the break before the Summer semester. It already feels calmer, and I actually left the office a little after 5pm instead of 6:30 like I usually do. I'm hoping for more normal days for a few weeks, and two weeks from Friday we have 3-day weekends for a few weeks. That's ok by me.

Have a great evening, and a super day tomorrow.

Accuweather says there will be no rain for the next 120 minutes, which is good news. Possible scattered showers during the day, but they are most likely this evening. I am amazed at how forecasts for rain have been changing on my weather apps hour by hour these past weeks. It is as though the meteriologists can't figure out what's going on.

I'm hoping to get to planting squash today but the soil is still soggy.

58F now, clear, 80F for the high possible light rain later.

Heading to the Orthopedic hospital today for another series of pain relief shots in my knee.

I need to get back into my morning stretching routine.

More writing.

Limit the amount of table chips you eat. Order a chicken taco salad withOUT the fat fried taco shell bowl. Order Spinach enchiladas without the crema.

Took a trip to Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. Walked the zoo for about an hour. Nice day. Had an urge for a scoop of icecream but at $7 a scoop it was easy to say no. Tomorrow is my son's birthday. He wants to go out to lunch to a mexican restaurant. Any suggestions as to what to eat and what to stay away from?

It's a beautiful, sunny Sunday in Shelby Township, MI with temps in the high 60's with light winds. Down to 44 tonight under clear skies. Was able to get some practice in at the range (golf) this morning.

Yesterday did get up to 62F, but there was quite a bit of rain, heavy at times. Luckily, the rain fell mostly when we were driving in the car between wineries (designated driver was awesome). We had a great time visiting 9 wineries out of the 25 participating in the Wine Adventure.

Today we'll visit the south shore communities of Lakeport and Kelseyville, and up into the foothills of Cobb Mountain to sample some additional wineries, including some where we are wine club members. The wine adventure is a great way to get out into the community and meet some new people.

Have a great Sunday!

Today is the first day of the Lake County Wine Adventure. Last year it was around 80F and gorgeous. Today it's going to be 60F and the possibility of rain from 10am to 1pm.The system isn't very fast moving, and there's always a chance it will bypass us.

We'll be visiting about 15 wineries and tasting rooms today, with lots of goodies and flights of sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, pinot noir, and a couple surprises thrown in for good measure. We're going with our friends Alex and Slava, with whom we went last year. It was great fun, and we're looking forward to today even with less cooperative weather.

Have a great Saturday!

Rain has begun at 8 am on the eastern shore of Maryland. Rain is predicted for most of today and tomorrow. High of 60 degrees. This afternoon is dairy day at the Kent Museum. If rain lets up, we will take our mama goat and her kids for the children to see, feed, and pet. If not, the goats will stay home, inside their stable and dry. Our kids, our grandson, and his other grandmother are visiting this weekend. Fun.

Hope your weekend is fun.

48F at 5:45a.m. in the Ozarks. High today with some sun 71F. We're predicted to get a couple more days of sun, then possibly 3 days of descending moisture.

Doing a day trip today.

Made some chili last night with small chunks of sirloin and some homemade Mexican chorizo. Best I've made in a long time. Took 4 hours of simmering to get it right.

My summer Speech class made. It's 17 days. The admin continually schedules it for 2.5 hours each meeting. If I actually taught it that way, the summer class would be over in 6 meetings. I've approached them about this ludicrous schedule, but they told me all 17-day summer classes are on the same schedule. My director told me to just teach the way I've always taught and ignore the time frame. That makes sense. I guess they can teach that long, poor students, on the main campus with all the tech available. I've taught speech for a damn long time, and I would walk out of a class that lasted that long. Gag.

It's the Weekend - enjoy.

There are 10mph winds blowing, with gusts up to about 16mph, and a forecast high of 64F, making this one of the coolest graduations we have had on campus recently. I expect a few caps to take flight from people's heads today!

Graduation day is here - lots of activities and excitement on campus today. I'll be glad when it's over. The ceremony is at 7pm. This will be a long day.

Happy Friday!

58F now, very cloudy, 69F later. Our mini-monsoons have returned. Rain predicted through Thursday.

Revision of E2 starts today.

Tomorrow we journey to attend my niece's belated 'after the wedding celebration'.

We were invited to celebrate a friends Renewal of Vows. We respectfully declined. My wife wrote on the RSVP that they must've gotten married in the wrong state, our wedding license does not have an Expiration date. And if your love needs renewing, then why bother getting married?

Enjoy the week-end, and don't take any wooden nickles.

A beautiful sunny start to this Friday here on the Delmarva. 53F / 12C, heading to a really nice temp of 74F. Sadly it does not stick around for Saturday with steady rain from a coastal storm moving in.

On tap for today: AM yoga at the Y, taking Tomas (male greyhound) to vet for lab work, breakfast, work, errands, and more work. Tonight: Probably staying in and having leftovers. We have two meals' worth of leftovers. Time to make a dent in the DVR'd shows.

TGIF gents!

The sun is scheduled to make an appearance this afternoon here in Kent County, Maryland. Temperatures may go as high as 70. Our chickens will be happy. They love to free-range in the sun.

I am trying to set up our new drip irrigation system today and get more plants in the ground. Our peas seem to be doing poorly this year, whereas last year they thrived. Usually by mid-June, peas are done so I am not very hopeful but who knows. This is a strange year weather wise ... again. Hay, corn, and soybean farmers around us are working until midnight on dry days trying to get their crops planted.

Hope everyone gets some time in the sun today.

Yesterday's high was 92F, today it's only going to be 74. There's a strong breeze outside, and another low pressure zone with rain is headed our way.

Tomorrow is our graduation ceremony - with activities all day long. We are a small campus, only 33 of our graduates are walking tomorrow, but it will still have all the pomp and circumstance. It's my first, and I'm very excited!

Today is the judge's breakfast and then spending some time on the budget. I'm going to get a good cardio working first thing!

Happy Thursday!

On tap for today: AM abs yoga here at home, cooked up breakfast (omelets for DW and I), work, trip to the vet to have some digestive issues checked out for out happy greyhound boy Tomas, 40-50 minute run, and more work. Brisk clear day on the eastern shore of Maryland. I'll take it. Working in the gardens yesterday (when rain was light) was like being on an ice rink. Hopefully I'll make better progress today. We have lots to get planted.

I agree that the new law totally sucks, but it's the same here in California. Most of our high school teachers with Master's degrees have their advanced degree in Education. That should make them good teachers of the subject matter of their bachelor's degree. Someone could have a Master's in Math and know Math really well but have no concept how to teach it. Yet, that is what we're required to hire to teach Math classes in California Community Colleges. An MA in Education isn't accepted. However, I'm surprised that those folks in Missouri are losing their jobs because of the new law. There should be a grandfather clause that anyone already teaching should be allowed to continue. That's really tragic.

One more warm day today - high of 92F - before another low pressure zone moves in threatening rain Friday and Saturday. The Wine Adventure will be less fun if it's raining, but the wine will still taste good! Our friends Alex and Slava are coming for dinner tonight so we can plan our itinerary for the weekend. We did it together last year and had a great time.

My class is now over for the semester, except for grading the finals that the students took yesterday. A couple of them were finished with the test in a little more than an hour, but others used the entire 3-hour class time. I hope they all did well.

Happy Wednesday!

Steven that totally sucks! Why would any law eliminate highly educated teachers?? That makes no sense! Hopefully sanity will eventually fix the problems.

Here on the Delmarva, it is overcast and 55F / 13C, heading to the low 60's with a chance of showers. We had .32" of rain yesterday.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, work, errands, more work. Tonight: Unsure -- DW is working from home today so we may venture out for dinner.

Since I've only got two semesters left to teach, I declined to go to the 'mandatory' teachers prep meetings at the community college. All four of my classes are already at capacity.

I feel sorry for our certified personnel administrator after Fall 2016. Our satellite campus alone will be losing 12 general studies instructors; most teach required subjects. This is due to the new state law eliminating teachers with masters or higher degree in Education. Our administrator has not found anyone with a masters degree in a specific subject who wants to teach or exists. So like me, having a masters degree in Secondary Education and having taught the same subject for over 20 years now counts for nothing.
When lawmakers took over Missouri's education systems, the students suffer.

Cloudy, light rain falling, 64F / 18C, pretty much at the high for the day.

On tap for today: AM abs yoga here at home, chiropractor appointment, work, run, and more work. Last day covering for my European counterpart. Hopefully the rest of the week a little slower. My inbox is a train wreck!

Tonight: We have leftovers (Italian) if we decide to stay home. We also have a GC for our favorite Japanese restaurant in Rehoboth Beach -- it'll depend on the weather and how DW and I feel. DW has a board meeting at lunch time so she may just want to veg!

Have a terrific Tuesday gents!

A mild morning of 66F heading to a high of 88. I'll be in the classroom from 4pm until 9pm watching my students take their final exam. It's a bittersweet time, because I've enjoyed them and the interactions I've had with them, but at the same time I'm looking forward to having my Tuesdays back. It's going to be a beautiful day!

I have two hiring committee meetings today. One I'm chairing, the other I'm just a member. I'm on 4 hiring committees total, all with tight deadlines for meeting their goals. With the semester ending and people taking off for summer vacations, it's going to be a challenge!

Have a great Tuesday!

Fascinating to watch the forcasts change. Last night before I went to bed, Yahoo weather was predicting rain for this (Tuesday) evening here in Kent County, Maryland, and I thought I'd be able to get most of a day of work in before the rains came (again). This morning Yahoo is predicting 50 percent chance of rain at 9 a.m. Accuweather says rain will begin in 2 minutes. In any case, I need to feed and water the goats, chickens, and chicks. We will see what happens then.

Stay dry and warm, friends.

51F steady rain, high 57F more steady rain. we are in day 2 of our Ozarks Mini-Monsoon. Last day is predicted to be Friday morning. My yard is very mushy.

Submitted my book to the publisher, CreateSpace.com, now waiting for their edit review. Moved my first book to Kindle Direct. That will get it seen and listed on more Amazon sites. Plus it will let me run it with a reduced price for a limited time.

Coolish here on the eastern shore of Maryland. High is supposed to reach mid-60s today. Soil is less muddy as a result of yesterday's winds.

Yesterday I ended up spending most of the afternoon mowing grass, which had gotten quite high. Today I plan to use some of that grass to mulch tomato plants, and I hope to get the rest of our tomato plants in the ground.

Enjoy the day.

Forecast high of 82F today, quite a bit warmer than yesterday. I'll be back on campus today to get caught up on everything I missed while I was at the conference in San Diego. Tomorrow is the beginning of final exams, including my class, and graduation is Friday. A lot to do between now and then.

Have a terrific, manic Monday!

Sunny and breezy here on the Delmarva, 49F / 9C, heading to the low 60's. Overnight low was a very unseasonable 40F! Looks like a few more days of coolness / rain before the pattern changes and we get into some May spring temps.

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, breakfast, work, run, take DW's minivan to Firestone for an oil change, and more work. Tonight: Not sure yet. Guess we'll see how we are feeling -- but we were up at 05:30 so my guess is that we'll do takeout.

Have a good work week gents!

Pretty windy today on the eastern shore of Maryland. Good news is that it will help dry up the soggy soil a bit. Bad news is that wind really tires me out when I am out in it. So far, I've done my morning chores and gone to church. Wondering if I really want to be outside in this wind now. My wife wants us to go shopping but that's even more tiring. Sofa and a crossword puzzle are looking good.

Expected high of 75F today. The week's forecast looks crazy - 91 on Wednesday, 65 on Friday, and possible rain on Saturday (which would be a bad way to start out the annual Lake County Wine Adventure).

I'm finally home from San Diego and an extra trip to the airport yesterday to drop off Jim and Sally. There was a party yesterday for our retiring Biology professor that was a lot of fun, then home for a late dinner and watching some of our TV shows from the past week. Today is going to be lazy with more TV and movies to watch. The DVR is bursting at the seams!

Have a great Sunday!

42F cloudy, 61F later rain on the way.

Knee felt better yesterday.
Fired up my new vertical smoker. I had some chicken thighs so I used some leftover apple and oak wood. I also tried cool or water smoking method. It took an extra 90 minutes. Personally, the wife and I could not tell any difference in taste. We don't use any sauce since its all about the meat and the smoke, NOT the condiments. But, if you really screwed up cooking the meat, use a sauce.

More writing today -

Oh, on another note, my son is about to be a senior in high school and is going to apply to MIT so we are taking a trip to Boston this summer. We are planning to take a tour of the college, the obvious historical spots and a game at Fenway. I was wondering if any of you are familiar with the area and if there is anything else we should plan on doing while we are there?

Well, I have been really busy this past week. The life of a high school teacher in May. Temperatures here in deep South Texas(translation Mexican border) have been in the high 90s all week with the heat indexes in triple digits. Makes it tough to get in a good workout outdoors. But it is what it is. It will get easier but I never quite get used to the heat.

85 percent chance of rain predicted for 6 pm here on the mid eastern shore of Maryland today. This gives me until then to get my other hundred tomato plants that my DW grew in our greenhouse into the ground. (We will plant about 200, PLMITCH.) It takes longer than you would think because of running trellises and irrigation. My arms and shoulders are pleasantly sore from pounding in posts for the trellises, which I did late afternoon yesterday after the rain stopped.

Then we've got cucumbers, peppers, and sweet potato slips waiting to get into the ground, as well as grass that desperately wants to get mowed. The good life, I say without irony.

Thrive, guys.

Sunny and really pleasant here on the Delmarva, 65F / 18C, heading to the mid 70's but with a cold front approaching we have a chance for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon.

On tap for today: Housecleaning, mowing, 7.5 mile run, and if time allows, replace shutoff valve on dishwasher water line. Tonight: Depends on when the storms move through...may have to stay home with our oldest greyhound Gigi, since she hates thunderstorms and shakes like crazy.

Have a great Saturday gents!

It was warm, in the 80s, the entire time I was in San Diego, where it barely got above 70. I arrived home last night, with the wind blowing strongly. Today the high is only 72. What's up with that???

We take Jim and Sally to the airport this morning, leaving at 7am. After we drop them off, we're heading over to Target and Costco in Woodland for our big-box shopping, since they are on the way. Too bad there's no Trader Joe's, which would make it the trifecta of retail. We should be home by lunchtime.

This afternoon is the retirement party for our beloved Biology professor, Dr. Harry Lyons. Harry has been a favorite and feature of the campus for 28 years, and he is one of the most charming, delightful men I've ever met. We found his replacement in a young man that reminded many of us of a younger Harry, and we're excited that we have someone who could bring the same level of intellect and passion to our campus for the next 30 years.

After the party, I'm going to crash! Well, I might do the ironing, which piled up while I was gone. Then I'm going to crash.

Have an awesome Saturday!

43F now, sunshine, 61F later more sunshine.

I may have over did it yesterday. I have an antique wheelbarrow that is now a planter. This year I decided to plant a variety of peppers both sweet and extremely hot. A lot of lifting bags of potting soil and top soil and mulch put some pain in my lower back. A little later my knee really kicked in with pain. My wife was there to remind me that there was no rule that said planting had to be done in one day.

SNYDERDEANJ, 100 tomato plants? WOW!! That is impressive! And you say you have more to plant?

Here in central Delaware on the Delmarva, cloudy, a bit breezy, 64F / 18C, heading to the low 70's with a good chance of rain.

On tap for today: AM yoga at the Y, work, errands, more work. Tonight: We have leftovers from Texas Roadhouse if we want to stay at home. We'll just have to see how DW and I feel after she gets home. I have had a stretch of 3 days now where sleep has been at a premium due to work, so honestly staying home tonight sounds OK to me!

Yahoo weather says 100 percent chance of rain this afternoon on the eastern shore of Maryland. I've got 100 or so tomato plants in the ground so far with as many more to plant. It takes time to build trellises and run the irrigation. And I am a little tired of working in mud. Maybe that's why I'm getting a slow start this morning ... Or maybe it is laziness.

Enjoy the day.

Expecting a high of 68F here in San Diego, and 80F in Clearlake. It won't be that warm when I get home at around 9pm, but it is still something to look forward to.

The conference ends today after a keynote speech, two breakout sessions, lunch, one more afternoon session and closing remarks. We are done at 3pm, and I have two hours to get to the airport (I could walk there and get my steps in, and just may do that). Flight is at 5pm, arriving in Sacramento at 6:30. Then I drive home, stopping to fill up the tank where the gas is cheaper. It will be nice to sleep in my own bed. The bed at the hotel is incredibly soft, and not in a good way.

I've learned quite a bit during the conference, and I am glad for the opportunity for more professional development. It has allowed me to think more strategically about my job, something I rarely get to do.

Happy Friday! Be lucky today!
