Cloudy and 78F / 26C, dew point at a steamy 75F. We are at our forecasted high for the day.

Day started with a downpour! An even inch of rain in the rain gauge, and it came down quick! I was my yoga class at the Y and could hear the rain pounding the roof!

Been working since then. May do a few odds and ends during some stretch breaks. Tonight: assuming no work constraints, I'm thinking we may go out. Our best bet is our local favorite Mexican restaurant. Take out is an option too. We'll see how DW's day went.

TGIF gents!

Another warm sunny day at the lake, high of 91F. Haircut this morning, then grocery shopping and house cleaning in preparation for my parents' arrival this afternoon. Dad wants a boat ride. Mom is happy to lay on the sofa and look out on the lake with the dogs snuggled up with her.

Tonight - steaks on the grill, baked potatoes, and salad at mom's request. One of the few things they don't get at their dining room, and that was what she was craving. We can handle that.

Have a great Friday, everyone!

Everything is wet from an early morning rain and there may be some more rain this afternoon and/or evening here on the eastern shore of Maryland. The high may hit the very low 80s. It is beautiful outside right now.

Planting and weeding. I may rototill if it is dry enough. Harvesting garlic, carrots, and cucumbers right now. Squash soon. Tomatoes will be awhile yet.

It is Friday. Enjoy.

It is really pleasant outside after the morning rain! There may be more rain coming here on the eastern shore of Maryland. The forecast seems to change hourly.

Yesterday turned out to be a remarkably productive day. Planting, weeding, relocating a raised bed, getting eggs under a broody chicken, selling some roosters, disking a field.

Today will probably be a little slower because of the wet and possible additional rain.

Enjoy your day!

Ron, I hope the homebuilder in NC gets his act together! Good luck with the move, but be careful of the heat!

We got a little breeze last night to cool things down. The high today is only forecast at 86F, should be a really pleasant day.

Boss is back from her leadership retreat. I had a good phone conversation with her as she was driving back. Today we'll spend most of the day together planning the Spring 17 schedule of classes and our strategic initiatives for outreach. Last day of the workweek today, gotta make it great!

Have a super Thursday!

Moving is such a great thing to have done. Hope you get through it soon, 1-Day Ron.

Temperatures should hit the high 80s today on the eastern shore of Maryland. There also should be some breezes which should help dry the gardens which are too soggy to work in so far this morning. Lots of rain yesterday.

And we all got phone calls from our neighbors to lock our doors because the police were looking for someone who was mentally out of control. Sherrif department cars with flashing lights were all over the place. I guess we need to take this kind of thing more seriously than we used to.

Yesterday my eating was sort of out of control. Not sure why. Hanging around the house while it stormed did not help. Hopefully today will be back to normal.

Have a productive Wednesday.

Sunny and breezy, 73F / 23C, dew point also at 73F but should be dropping through the day, heading to a high of 87F here on the Delmarva. Pretty intense storms here yesterday -- 0.81" of rain in a very short amount of time. Sounds like more on the way tomorrow.

A much more quiet day for me -- had multiple appointments, etc. Did my AM yoga here at home, nibbling on breakfast now, logging on to work shortly, heading to the Y later this morning for a strength training workout, then back to work. Tonight: I suspect we'll go out, as I am on call tomorrow evening.

Happy hump day gents!

75F now. 94F later.
Wife is in Houston, TX. My oldest daughter is in labor. Sometime this morning she will be giving birth to fraternal twins. My wife promised to send me photos. I won't get to visit them until the second week of July. But, my other two children will also be arriving in Houston the same time. So a family reunion and welcoming all in one.

More Finals prep today -

A warm day of 96F today. The boss is at a leadership retreat for the college and district executives. I'll be holding down the fort while she's gone, still trying to get things done for the end of the fiscal year. Yesterday was interruption after interruption.

I'm still waiting for news on the textbook for one of my classes in the fall. The instructor hasn't posted anything yet on the university portal. I wonder how long I should wait before sending an email asking about it. It's summer, and I know how some faculty disappear during the summer break. (I probably would too.)

Have a great Tuesday!

72F now, light breeze...93F later. NOAA put a 30% chance for rain tonight and tomorrow. We'll see.

Had some very good mid-term Demonstration speeches. There were a couple of bleh speeches. One student tried to blow off the assignment, D-. Another just did not follow instructions, D-. They were upset. But I told them I gave them the grade they earned.
Actually in my Speech class any grade lower than a C- I record as an F. But both students did make the minimum time limit, so....I was feeling benevolent.

Need to get more writing done on my novel.

Those of you that enjoy an entertaining Good Read, pick up any of Jasper Fforde's novels.

It's Tuesday, don't blow it.

It is 76 degrees at 7 a.m. on the eastern shore of Maryland. 85 percent chance of rain this afternoon with a high of 88 degrees.

We spent much of yesterday hanging out with old friends who go back 35 years or so. I also got some pepper plants in the ground.

More planting today and, hopefully, lots of weeding.

Sunny and 75F / 24C, here in central Delaware heading to the mid / upper 80's. Dew point is at 62F so a little more sweat will be expelled today!

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, work, run, work some more, take two of three puppies to the vet for shots, and yet more work. Tonight: DW and I are heading to the Lewes area to talk with a person from a senior living community. With both of DW's parents in their 80's, we know at some point the home they live in will just be too much for them to handle, so we want to be prepared when that time comes. We'll do some dinner in the area afterwards.

Have a good work week gents!

Happy Summer Solstice! It will be 91F here in Clearlake today, with warmer temperatures in the coming 7 days. We are predicted to be over 100F next week at this time. It was a beautiful full moon this morning, waking me up at 4:30am as the reflection off the water came into the bedroom and illuminated the ceiling. The lake is smooth and a lone grebe is out looking for breakfast.

Back to work today - this is the last week to finalize the budget, so I'll be spending a lot of time with spreadsheets.

Have a great first official day of summer!

Sunny, 87F / 31C, may climb a degree or two more, dew point still at a relatively comfortable 56F. Tomorrow and Tuesday more heat and humidity.

Just got home from a really nice brunch. I had the special omelet of the day -- prime rib, mushrooms, and cheese! Plus 1.5 Bloody Mary's! After checking mail, etc., heading out to mow the front yard. Saw my MIL/FIL, and both DD's! My son is in the middle of a major deck project and part of what they did yesterday was to move the dryer vent, so today needed to get old hole filled up.

Have a great Father's Day gents

Today's my parents' 62nd anniversary as well as Father's Day, and it's nice to celebrate both occasions with them this morning here in Sacramento. We'll head to church about 10:30, then brunch after with my sister before I head back to the lake.

It's going to be near 90F both here and at home today. Probably won't be enough time when I get home to go out on the boat, but it sure would be nice.

Have a great Father's Day, gents, to all you fathers, and all of you father figures.

Not a lot doing today. Temps will be in the low 90's.

I left the convention early. It broke down into confusion and a lot of adults acting like spoiled children. Later my wife and I attended a PRIDE memorial concert for the PULSE attack.

More writing.

Steve, sorry for your loss. So young. Very hard.

Sunday on the eastern shore of Maryland: Temperature may break 90 today. We will see how that feels.

Good to get the goat stall cleaned out yesterday and our older asparagus patch mulched in preparation for next year.

Taylor, the dog, is visiting this weekend while her people are traveling. She and I did a 2.5 mile walk yesterday. When she visits, if we don't walk, she becomes sullen.

Today: Chores, church, then we'll see.

I agree - Ron, be very careful in the heat and drink plenty of water!

It was an emotional day as 400 people gathered at Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Sacramento for the memorial service of a 19-year-old young man who was much loved by his family and friends. It was a beautiful service, and I was honored to be asked to sing. Hugging his parents afterward, I could only thank them for allowing me to honor their son the best way I knew how.

Now we're hanging out at my folks' waiting for dinner in the downstairs dining room. I think the menu is barbecue pork and baked beans.

I hope the rest of the weekend is happier!

Sunny skies and 76F / 24C, dew point at a very comfortable 52F, forecast high is 81 today.

Been a busy day already: AM yoga here at home, 5K race, and a serious dent in some gardening out front. Having lunch now, then back out to do some more outdoor work including mowing the back yard. Tonight: We have Italian leftovers which we'll either have tonight or tomorrow.

Be very careful in that heat 1DAY-ATA-TIME.

Have a great Saturday gents!

High of 96 with high humidity--feels like 104. Continuing with the moving process. Almost finished packing household goods. Prepping for movers and hauling extras to Goodwill. The biggest hurdle is dealing with the heat. I can't handle it like I use to.

Pleasant today. High in the mid- to high 80s. No rain.

More to do today than I can list. My big goal is to muck out the goat shed but to do that I have to clear out the old garden so I can put the straw on next year's asparagus. And there are other chores along the way.

Hope your Saturday is good!

High of 71F today, temperatures are heading back again through the week ahead.

Dentist appointment at noon, then heading to Sacramento to meet with the church organist to rehearse the song I'm singing at the memorial service tomorrow, then dinner and the weekend at my parents' place. Sunday is my parents' 62nd wedding anniversary as well as Father's Day. It will be an emotional weekend.

Happy Friday!

Overcast and 64F / 18C here on the Delmarva, heading to the upper 70's later today. We received .61 of rain in the past 24 hours.

On tap for today: AM yoga at the Y, lab work for my Dr appt next week, stop at Royal Farms for coffee and a treat for DW and I -- Krispy Kreme donuts! -- work, grocery shopping, more work. Tonight: Pick up race packet for tomorrow 5K race at our local winery, may just have to stay for some wine! Leftovers are here at home later on, assuming no food truck at the winery.

TGIF gents!

Steven, my philosophy exactly: There is no better workout than work.

Lots of rain was predicted for today on the eastern shore of Maryland, but the forecasters are no longer of one mind. We will see.

For the past couple of years I've had several wooden raised beds in our original garden. Now they are becoming weed-bound and getting in the way of working the soil around them. So I am moving the wooden part of the raised beds to new locations so I can grow cover crops in that area for better weed control. I'll hopefully start today by replanting a raised bed of strawberries into our strawberry patch so I can move the frame. Unless it rains.

It seems as if the week has just blown past. I can hardly believe it is Friday already. Enjoy!

Leaving for Sedalia this afternoon. Short trip, should be back home tomorrow early evening.

Raining on the eastern shore of Maryland. May be a dry stretch this afternoon but rain is expected again this evening and tomorrow. Good for the crops!

We did a trip to Clarks Farm Supply, Winner Ford, and Byler's Groceries in Dover yesterday. I buy bulk tea at Byler's and need to get there every 3 or 4 months to restock.

I had some kind of bug yesterday and was dragging all day. Some organic sweet potato plants came in the mail yesterday and I did manage to get them in the ground just before nightfall. Hopefully I'll have more energy today.

Hang in!

Steven - we have a whole cadre of HS students on campus this summer. Yes, it's always interesting to see how they do in their classes. I wish I had the opportunity to earn college credit when I was still in high school!

Today is the end of my workweek. Interviews most of the day - morning is a classified position that helps disabled students, two afternoon interviews for possible English profs. Then we can make the decisions and move on with hiring.

Happy Thursday!

75F at 6:07a.m. no clouds, no breeze. High today around 93F lots of sun and humidity.

Finally getting my MIL moved in to her new assisted living apartment tomorrow. Wife's sister is driving up to help with the move. Yesterday I kept my pedometer running while moving her furniture. I walked 1.2 miles just carrying that stuff from my truck to her apartment.

Will try to get in more work on my novel.

May be rain this morning on the eastern shore of Maryland. It feels like rain. Then may rain again overnight and into tomorrow. High will be 79.

I am dragging this morning because I got home from the western shore well after midnight. My day will depend on the weather. I really want to work on a section of the garden, disc it, rototill, plant a cover crop. But can't do that if it is too wet. We will see.

Mostly cloudy and 68F / 20C, dew point has climbed back to 67F after being in the 40's yesterday, heading to the upper 70's. Rain moving in overnight.

Been a busy morning already. Went to the Y for my weekly strength training session, fed the dogs, then to the dentist to get impressions for a new set of retainers (had the Invisalign orthodontic work done 10 years ago, current retainers looking pretty cruddy!), then back home for breakfast and work. At lunchtime heading to the blood bank for hopefully a double red donation (as long as hemoglobin is at the right #), then back home for more work. Tonight: We have lots of leftovers if we decide to stay in. Depends on how DW feels.

Happy hump day gents!

Warm and cloudy morning. Afternoon temps to get in the mid-90's.

I found out I have 3 high school students in my summer speech class. They are taking my class for dual credit. I usually get one HS student a semester. I have never altered how I teach for HS students. So my class is becoming a new type of learning experience for them. Especially in assigned speech topics.

More writing today.

It's Wednesday - leave the hump and just hustle.

Another chilly day at the lake. The high is only 67F today and tomorrow too, with a chance of rain. This is extremely unusual weather for June. Next week will be more typical, with the long-range forecast of 100+ degree highs on Tuesday and Wednesday. That's more normal weather for this time of year.

I have a couple interviews for English professors today, and two more tomorrow. I also have the hiring committee for one of my classified staff positions tomorrow morning. The rest of today will be spent on the budget numbers and a presentation for convocation in August. Lots of planning work ahead.

Happy Wednesday!

I missed checking in yesterday. We've been traveling since Friday so I didn't get in all my steps on a couple of days. Arrived in Bar Harbor, ME yesterday. Cold and drizzly to start so mostly drove around Acadia but did get in a few short hikes and met my step goal. Woke up to much better weather this morning - cloudy skies and 55 degrees. Perfect for a nice 3 mile run before DW and the kid got up. Did a few short hikes in the park and then explored the island. Found a great lobster restaurant in Southwest Harbor for lunch. Tomorrow we head to Boston for my conference. The conference is having a walking challenge so that might help with getting my steps in :-).

What fun reading all these comments. Dean, you sound like a male Martha Stewart, with all the home-grown and homemade foods. Even cheese? Your poker buddies are sure lucky!

Ron, I hope the move goes smoothly. We did everything ourselves too, and it went pretty well, all things considered, with the help of a couple friends and family members. Good luck!

Steven, that really sucks having the AC go out this time of year. Couldn't it have waited? Perhaps is an easy (and inexpensive) fix...

Patrick, prayers for your daughter. What's the latest?

Up here at the lake, the wind blew all night. The high today is only 74F. This has not been a very mild summer so far, but July and August are coming (and September and October, if last year is any indication). The summer semester started yesterday, and it was great seeing so many young faces on campus yesterday. Today should be busy but productive. I'm finally wrapping up the budget for the fiscal year, and it's looking much better than I expected.

Have a great Tuesday!

Hey Steven, Hope you get AC fixed soon.

It's 78F at 6AM expecting a sunny humid 90F.

Started the moving process into smaller house. I have a couple of weeks before closing on my current home and about 7-8 before the mountain home is constructed. With the exception of large furniture and appliance, we are packing and moving ourselves.

5a.m., 71F no breeze, high getting to 91F sunny.

I have all of our windows up trying to cool down our house. I also have three floor fans running. One helpful item this heat has been good for: very few folk are cooking in. Drove around last night and most of our local eateries had full parking lots. The two ice cream shoppes had lines out the door.

Finally got my FINAL re-write started and headed in the right direction. Still working on my new novel's outline, which I'm posting on my SP blog. Evidently some SP'ers don't get it judging by their comments. However, Most do understand what I'm posting.

Keep it all Cool, guys.

PLMITCH - Hope your daughter is okay and they find out what happened.

Should be a pleasant day here on the eastern shore of Maryland as well. A little gusty but pleasantly so.

I am brining dinner for my monthly poker game tomorrow night on the other side of the bay. I made a fresh batch of vanilla yogurt this morning and will bake an angel food cake and pick fresh strawberries for dessert. I'll take some of our goat milk cheeses for appetizers. I'll make a salad with lettuces and carrots from the garden and pick lots of radishes. I'll roast some small potatoes and beets we canned last fall. Maybe some deviled eggs or a quiches from our chickens' eggs. I haven't figured out a main course yet.

In the meantime, lots of weeding to do outside. Mowing, too.

Sunny, a bit breezy, but a very pleasant 66F / 19C, heading to the upper 70's but nice low humidity. The windows are open!

On tap for today: AM yoga here at home, work, trip to the vet to get our male greyhound Tomas his weekly B-12 injection, run, some errands, and more work. Tonight: Not sure yet. Was only able to get some of the mowing done over the weekend (we were in NYC for part of it, then had to make a run to PA to see my oldest daughter yesterday, as she was admitted to the hospital after passing out at work!), so may try to get more mowing done before dinner here at home.

Have a good work week gents!

I am! Life is so much better to love than the alternative!!! :)

It's going to be a beautiful day of 84F. I've got a lot to do at work this week. I've also been asked to sing at the memorial service Saturday morning for the 19-year-old young man who died last Tuesday from injuries in a car accident, so I'll be preparing for that. It's a bonus that I'll get to see my parents and friends and loved ones from church, but horrible the reason why.

Make the most of today, gentlemen!

Dean, thanks for the earworm! I'll be singing "Mairzy Doats" for the rest of the day! LOL

It's going to be another warm day today, high of 89F. Our monthly potluck with friends last night, which we hosted, went well, although the meat was overcooked. Nobody complained, but we almost ran out of barbecue sauce!

Today is going to be much lazier, with some movies, maybe a walk, and a trip to Walmart for supplies. Need to get ready for a work day tomorrow.

Happy Sunday! "A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?"
