I did order steak for dinner. I am taking my (Aries) girlfriend and she ordered the fish so we are going to share. At least for dinner they just give you one plate and they do serve veggies and salad with it so at least I can make sure to eat those veggies instead of all the other stuff. They have very nice shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, and that's healthy, so I can have some of that, too. And there is even fresh fruit on the dessert table so it is possible to make decent choices. My problem is I will want the fried appetizers and then the carrot cake and the cheesecake for dessert. And then Monday when I come to work all of the leftover desserts will be here and I'll have to resist them all over again! With my Virgo ascendant I want to appear frugal but the Leo moon gives me an indulgent appetite, too. I can do this successfully, though, and make good choices. And maybe I'll have a glass of wine or two still. We'll see.

Thats great! Sounds way too tempting to me lol. I vaccilate between Leonine indulgence and Virgoan frugalness to the extreme. Glad you are getting out and having some fun. Not an easy time of year to stay on track with Sparkpeople though!

Btw, I got a dress, actually a skirt and a top, but I think they'll do quite nicely for my party. It's a pretty fancy party and lots of fun. I'll have to be careful, though, because the food there is awesome and they have tables of appetizers and desserts, yes, tables and tables of them! And free drinks. I usually let myself have a couple of drinks but this year I might skip the drinking to save on willpower and calories, both.

I am sure that you can, I actually (for a Leo) loved being single but being in a relationship is wonderful too, as long as you allow the freedom to each other I think its fine, its a struggle to find the balance though. I am sure if you just keep putting it out to the Universe what you need it will manifest, I wrote a long and very specific list of what I wanted and (for the most part lol) it really worked. I know you will meet someone wonderful, even if you have to kiss a lot of frogs to get there! The biggest transformation for me has been motherhood though to be honest, it has been wonderful. I think for me the hardest thing in relationships is when the romance wears off, I am sure its the Leo and usually I have bailed at that point, and this time as a marriage I am trying to get beyond the romance and excitement and its different thats for sure. I think the biggest problem DH and I have is trying to control each other though and sweating the small stuff, I guess Sag and Leo will always have firey relationships lol!

I have dated a couple Aquarius guys myself. There is a guy I still work with who I dated for over 2 years and he is Capricorn/Aquarius cusp which I thought was really good for me with my Mars and Jupiter in Capricorn and my sun and Venus in Aquarius. And my Jupiter was conjunct his Sun, which I thought was a nice placement. But it never worked out. We even tried to get back together about a year and a half ago and that didn't work out, either. I still to this day think we could be great together but he thinks I'm too needy, if you believe that. I think I'm too optimistic when it comes to relationships: I think differences can be worked through but the men I date keep disagreeing with me. I think it is my Mars in Capricorn that makes me think with hard work anything is possible.

Anyway, I'm not giving up on my search. I'm awesome and I deserve to be with someone who appreciates me. I am not willing to settle. I love my solitude but I think it's possible to find a new and better way with the right partner. Maybe I can love being with someone else as much as I love being with myself. That's what I'm looking for.

I can see that would happen and Aquarius and Scorpio are like well air and water a lot of the time, I do know that about Aquarius but its still hard for me as a self-centered Leo to understand that on an emotional level. My other friend is not like that but she is very like that in relationships though, she just left husband # 4 and Mr Scorpio who then dumped her was really a huge part of that though it was more on an emotional level. Interestingly her ex husband is another Aquarius, and the guy she has recently met is another Aquarius, I have met a lot of Aquarius couples because I think they understand each other so well, more than the other signs about space and the emotions that are so important to them. The one Aquarian I dated was nuts though lol!

It is fun to be dating again.

With Aquarius I think once you are friends you are always friends (we are fixed signs) but it is hard sometimes for us water-bearers to get us past the surface friendship into a deeper friendship. I do not have many close friends at all but the friends I have might complain that I run hot and cold, too. We need our space and are sometimes aloof. It's not that we try to be but our heads are up in the clouds somewhere else, and we aren't very good at talking about feelings. I'm not making excuses for your friend because I know how much it can drive my own friends crazy but that's how we are sometimes. I am grateful my friends understand that about me for the most part. (Interestingly enough that is one thing about Scorpio that drives me crazy is they don't understand that and think it is a personal insult. They always want to know what's wrong and usually there is nothing wrong but they just can't believe that there is nothing wrong so they hound you until you tell them something, anything that might be wrong with you. That negative focus gets under my skin. Can't I just be introspective and quiet? Does something actually need to be wrong with me?)

Well I hope its fun to be dating again! He sounds like a nice guy. I have had a lot of Scorpio women friends and like their fierce loyalty and passion. I am sure you have the Aquarian glamour! Its a nice combination of signs. I have really not had a lot of Aquarian friends, I do get along with my one Aquarian irl friend, but I think its because we share a Virgo moon, and we are both holistic healers, she for people me for animals. The other Aquarian I met lately definitely blows hot and cold with her friendship though and I hate that! Her DD and mine are the same age, 2 days apart but her DD is an Aquarian, mine almost was she was so late!

Well, it is certainly too early to tell if there will even be a third date but we'll see what happens. I have a lot of Scorpios around me and clearly the universe has surrounded me with them so I can learn something. My mother is a Scorpio and my best friend a Scorpio moon. Their Scorpio ways can get under my skin sometimes, too, but it might just be water and I'm making it all Scorpios fault. Poor Scorpio, it is my scapegoat, perhaps, lol.

He did have a good sense of humor and since we met at a sports bar on a Sunday we talked football, among other things. I love the NFL and the last few guys I've dated have had no interest in it so there is at least beer and football we have in common. Is there more to romance?

The moon was in Gemini that day and I was overly talkative as a result but it worked out pretty well. I do excel on a first date. Aquarian mystery plus Leo charm plus Virgo attention to detail equals an interesting woman. I do seem to have the traditional "glamour" that is often associated with Aquarius. I will choose to see that as a blessing, though it does have some disadvantages, too.

Well they do have certain ummm talented areas! My friend who is an Aquarian with a Virgo moon and Scorpio Asc had a nasty run in with a Scorpio lately, he really got under her skin though which is not easy to do with an Aquarian. I love Scorpio men, but they need to be more spiritually evolved and this one was not apparently. I nearly married a Scorpio man in Thailand, he was from Burma and it was so incredibly hard to leave him but it was too hard to live in that culture for me. I bet it will be good for you though, hope you learn some more enjoyable lessons along the way!!

I don't know much about him yet, lol. I do know he is a high school history teacher, 40 years old, divorced, and his sun is in Scorpio. Can you believe I decided to go out with a Scorpio after all my angst with the sign? I decided there must be a lesson for Scorpio to teach me, and this opportunity arose, so I thought what the heck, I might as well see what happens!

It went well, he asked if I would like to see him again, and I would. We are working on making plans for this coming weekend, I think. I am hoping we go ice skating. I think that would be a good date activity, but we'll see how it turns out. I just met him and he seems like a nice guy and he used to play hockey and we have spoken of going skating so I think it'd be fun. I am not such a good skater but I do enjoy it. I even have my own skates.

Thanks, both of you for the input. Finally, finally I am back on track and have lost some weight. You're right, Taureans do well with structure, routine and the same "boring" but comfortable foods. It's really nice to be back especially during this tough holiday eating season.

Sheila, it probably really helps you as a stubborn Taurus to have a plan to stick to. And isn't it funny that even the name of the plan is named after a part of the earth, while you are an earth sign! Just noticed that. Have a wonderful day, all.

It sounds like a little thing, but my glass is half full because we had snow showers today that did not turn into a storm. Yay, I didn't have to drive in snow yet. Made my day.

Hope all of you are doing well. I've been enjoying all the great discussions and great contributions from all. I've also been sticking to my South Beach diet one day at a time like a good stubborn Taurus. Sheila

Thanks for reminding me, Granny, and I would also like to thank all of the veterans. I walked to a local park with a veterans memorial today and there were services going on there. I didn't want to intrude but I did stay for a few moments and said a prayer of gratitude on my own before my dog dragged me off to finish our walk. It was very nice to see our veterans being honored and I was grateful to be a witness.

Nothing like a shopping spree to make you look and feel awesome!

Today my glass is half full because while I've been sick I'm also realizing just how lucky I am to usually be so robust and healthy. It's also half full because I realize that while maybe I feel like crap right now I also know I won't always feel this way and soon enough I'll be feeling awesome again. I also let a friend help me out today. I'm not very good at accepting help but it was very nice and I promise to practice until it gets easier.

It was a great relaxing day.

I stayed on Program for the day.

I enjoyed just lounging around today.

This is the second time this fall I've made Pasta Fagiole. Low Fat High Fiber Very Filling. I used to have a recipe but I lost it so I've been winging it. Yesterdays soup turned out great:

1 Tbsp olive oil
1-2 Tbsp minced garlic
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. shredded carrots
salt and pepper to taste
6 c. chicken broth or stock
1 can kidney beans
1 can stewed or diced tomatoes
4 oz. dry pasta (Fiber Gourmet)
1 Tbsp fresh thyme

Sweat garlic and onions in olive oil until soft. Add shredded carrots, salt, and pepper to taste. Let carrots begin to soften, then add then rest of the ingredients. Cover and simmer until pasta is cooked. Serve and enjoy.

Makes approximately 6-7 servings (1.5 to 2 cups each). Per servings about: 164 cal, 3 g fat, 32 g carbs, 10 g protein, 11 g fiber

I've been using this awesome pasta called Fiber Gourmet. It has 130 calories per serving, 18 grams fiber, 8 grams protein. If I didn't have that I'd use a pasta like Barilla Plus.

Sometime soon I'm going to make a variation of this soup with chicken. Yesterday was the first time I had used carrots and it turned out well. I think celery would go well, too. Celery seed or a bay leaf would be great, too.

Hi all,
I am thankful that I am planning a trip to Toronto. How about that Sheila. Would love to do it by train. Bet the colors were beautiful. Thankful for my wishes too, now time and glad I have a program I can follow to get back on track. It works if I do it I know.
Also, I love soup...any kind. I make skinny soup with any vegies and love it. What is your recipe?

Blessings
Virginia

So glad to see you back Sheila! I'm glad you had a good time! I think a 50 year high school reunion would be fascinating. And how nice to visit with your grandchildren, too!

My glass is half full today because I did some batch cooking today, including a delicious soup. I love being ready for the week ahead.

Hi,
Well, I'm back from Toronto (came back Monday night)and thankfully getting back to my routine. I realize that when I am not on my fixed routine, especially when I am away, I don't make great choices. We were on a trainride 10 hours each way. But it was worth it to catch up with our Canadian grandchildren.

Last night we went to my husband's 50th highschool reunion. Everyone looked older (except for us, of course). Hmmm. But we had fun.

It's taking me awhile to catch up with you all on the different discussion topics, so have patience with me.

One thing that I want to make sure I do is to say a happy belated birthday to Virginia. I knew when I got on that train I was going to miss your birthday, Virginia. But I didn't really forget. Hope you had a happy day.

Hope you all had a great weekend.
Sheila

You don't need to work on those planets, you're doing great working with them. Your giving them what they want and you are staying focused. That's also called using your astrological strengths to lose weight, lol!

My camera is acting funny and I can't get it to work. I haven't had the chance to really sit down and look at it though. Maybe tomorrow while I'm watching football.

I can't believe you went out and bought a scale to get you through, lol! That's actually really good and I'm sure it will help you stay on track. And with all the hiking you do those shoes will get lots and lots of mileage and look great, too! I saw your old shoes. You definitely deserve some new ones.

That sounds wonderful, hope you will post pics!! I am excited about my boots.

I got a cheap dial scale from the evil store (W) and it says 150 WITH my clothes on!! Of course I don't beliebe it lol but at least it does not say more than I hoped!

Ooh I love new shoes! I can't wait to see pics tomorrow! emoticon

I met my mom and we went shopping today. I bought lots of new clothes and accessories, and I am really excited to unpack my new wardrobe. And it really is a wardrobe: 5 pairs of pants, 6 tops, 2 purses, a wristlet, a hat and a silk scarf. I have been saving my money for this day and since I've achieved a ten percent weight loss and quit smoking 48 days ago this is my reward!

I'm on my way out to walk the dog before it gets dark. That is the one thing that saddens me about fall: there is less light.

So I sent them back! It cost me $9 in postage (which they did not seem to think they needed to pay!) so I persuaded them to send some extra batteries as it was so pricey! I am sure I will break down and get a cheap back up scale today though.

The good news is DH picked up my (HOPEFULLY) right sized hiking boots today and I should be breaking them in soon. They are really cool (brown with pink!!) and called Mystic Peak. Perfect for me! I will post pics on my blog tomorrow!

Hopefully by the time you have sent this one back and have gotten a new one you will have lost more weight and will be delighted with what the new scale says. Interesting we've been talking scales so much since the sun is in Libra, huh?

I get like that, too. If something isn't working I try to leave it be but keep going back to it again and again because it's bothering me that it isn't working, lol. You probably should return it since if it's not working right now it's not likely to get any better.

I tried the paper but it pushes the plastic battery cover. Just now I got 135 then 152. Truly messing with my mind. I am going to return then thats just not ok, and I don't think thats just from a loose battery :( I think I am still about 150.0 and really thats close enough. Maybe being scale-less for a while would not hurt too!

I can definitely relate to the need to know EXACTLY, as I am Virgo rising, but I'm glad you figured out the problem. Can you just tape the batteries in place? Or maybe put a tiny tiny shim inside with the batteries (like a tiny folded piece of paper) that would keep them from slipping down?

LOL I know, sorry patience was never one of my virtues! I know its not really a plateau and I lost a lot of weight fast so am definitely not complaining! I have stopped losing and might be gaining but my scales are truly messed up. I found out why though, a tiny piece of plastic that holds the batteries in place is broken off so its loose and the battery moves and drops down, I tried to fix it with something but it won't work, I am thinking of returning them, today I got weights from 147 to 155 I mean I don't know WHAT I weigh now!!!

My poor Virgo moon is going INSANE from the innacuracy of it!!

I did look a website that showed I could cycle in my range of 1300 to 1700 approximately. My problem is I don't think I have the willpower to only eat 1300 calories on the low days.

And hahaha on your plateau. You've lost 9 pounds this month: that's not really a plateau. Give it a couple of days and the scales will start moving again. I have lost 1 pound in 7 weeks. That is much more like a plateau. I know it seems like it takes forever still, doesn't it? Lol.

That makes sense, I have the metabolism of a small slug so really does not seem I can eat that many calories, at first I was doing 1200 day (until I started the Calorie cycling) I still freak out on the 1500 calorie days! But maybe you can do it a little even within your normal eating range. I have to say I seem to have hit a nasty plateau though now for no apparent reason, yikes!

Anna, I've been observing you and your calorie cycling and it really has been working great for you. I've been waiting until I finish a September challenge I'm involved in before starting the calorie cycling myself but I think I am going to start trying it next month. The thing I'm worried about though is that I have absolutely zero will power and rarely eat below 1600 calories so I don't know if I'll be able to really implement it. This week I've been getting in extra cardio because I went over my high end calorie range of 1730 for 4 days in a row. I'm hoping the extra cardio counteracts the extra calories I've been eating. Also, the past three days in a row I did manage to stay in my range. I'd love to do calorie cycling but I don't know that I can actually do it. I have checked out some info on it and am very interested.

You are doing great Nicole! Check out the Calorie Cycling though, I was totally at a plateau and it helped me bust through and lose 9lbs this month. Plus I am eating more too. It might work for you, anyhow just wanted to suggest it.

I took the day off work today and am going to have a great day! I am also on a plateau but am not at all upset about it. I know I am doing the right things and I know I will get past this plateau. I have only lost 1 pound since 8/7/07 and am overjoyed about it.

Yes welcome Metalbabe! I guess the glass is half full because I have a place to get help with my lifestyle changes. I know I can do it. Granny you are showing us it can. Good on you. Yes we do find what we are looking for don't we? I think I am on a plateau but very gratful for the current 40 lb lighter. Grateful for the cooler weather and can be outside again.

Thanks Sheila

It's nice to be back. I sort of fell out of the
Sparkpeople mode at the end of the summer. But I
am glad to be back talking to all of my old friends.

Hope all is well with you. You look great. You certainly have done well with your weight loss journey and keeping it off.

Hope I can do the same.

Granny emoticon That's great!

My glass is half full today because I bought a new scale yesterday and now weigh 5 pounds more than I did yesterday on my old scale. My glass is half full because I have still lost 17 pounds.

I'm really excited tonight.

I got weighed in at Weight Watchers and I made
goal. I now have to maintain it for 6 weeks to
make lifetime.

I have just lost 53 lbs total since Jan. 3, 2007.

I am just soooo excited. Now I have to lose the
extra 5 lbs for my personal goal of 155.

It took a long time to lose the last 12 lbs., at least 3 months. Hope I can make the 155 lb mark
by my birthday on April 1st, 2008.

Wish me luck!

Love to all,
Granny G.

Gayle

Hi all, just back from Transformations retreat. So thankful to have the opportunity to get together with like minded folks. I should say I liked the book more than the movie and Oprahs shows even more than either of the above. They are all about seeing the glass completely full. Feeling and visualizing our life goals as if they are happening now. It all starts with gratitude. A prime ingredient and so the glass is half full because in this team and this thread we are looking for the Good and expressing our gratitude. I am also grateful that the house is stocked with healthy food so will be easy staying on track.

Blessings
Virginia

I checked my library, there are 4 copies of the movie, 2 are on the shelf! And I renewed my other book, too!

I have read The Secret but I haven't seen the movie. And really it's a movie, the book is just a book about the movie. Maybe I'll look and see if it's at the library. Actually, I can look online and see if it's at the library, which is great since I need to renew a library book anyway, so now my glass if half full since you all have reminded me to renew my library book in this roundabout way!

I have not read The Secret. I mostly do Lazaris meditations and they really have been effective for me, mostly guided imagery and meditation.

Virginia, I love "The Secret". And the Law of Attraction. I recently made a mind movie of my own. I don't know if you know what a mind movie is but it's an audio-visual movie you make yourself to represent your personal LOA (Law of Attraction) goals. I found out about the mind movie from a team I joined here on Spark called Making Life Happen on Purpose. There is a mind movie for the team and after watching it I thought it was so cool I wanted to make one of my own. So I did. It took a lot longer than I thought it would (took me 3+ weeks) but it's super cool and I'm actually working on a second one, too, or version 2.0, now that I know better what I'm doing.

Virginia, I'm so glad to have you back with us. I haven't read "The Secret" yet but it sounds like it is making a great difference to you.

Apple, what kinds of things are not going your way? When I feel that way, this "glass half full" forum we have helps me to feel better.

Nicole, it sounds like you are embarking on a new adventure. How do you go about meeting people who you want to date?

I love autumn too!

My glass is half full today because while I'm super busy at work I am currently stealing a moment for myself to eat a baked sweet potato.

Hi all, The glass is half full day mostly because of the weather. I love the Autumn. When I focus on how wonderful it is I can make it last a bit longer. I just returned from a retreat sort of using the principles of "the Secret" to realign us toward our goals. Now I must get out in it a bit and run some errands. Just wanted to stop in and say I am finally home from my journeys. It was pretty hot where I was so the cool down was really great.
