Today I went with DH to get groceries. We do not have a car so we have to walk to the bus, take the bus to the store and walk from the bus to the store, a couple of blocks. After we shop ( more walking ) we do it in reverse. I figure that I walked for about 20 minutes today. I am thrilled. I will put it into my fitness tracker. Right now I am not tracking my food, but am following a food plan and not eating outside of it. When I am more comfortable with the food plan and trust myself more, I will start tracking my food as well.

Have a wonderful weekend.

I fell off the exercise wagon and he eating wagon. In fact, I fell flat on my face and stayed the for about 2 weeks. Today I finally lifted my face back up, looked around and am up and waiting for the wagon to come by in the morning. It is nearly my bedtime now so no exercise before bed. That is 1 thing I learned early on. LOL I will walk, indoors in the morning for as long as my legs hold out. I have honestly not walked farther than the bathroom for 2 weeks so I am very stiff. My friend told me about MSM tablets. They are supposed to be good for stiff and sore joints. I can't afford to buy them till the end of the month but she also has severe arthritis and swears by them. It says on the bottle that it takes 2 to 6 weeks to notice the difference. I can get them at Costco so will buy a bottle and give them a try. They are also supposed to give relief from osteoarthritic pain and stiffness. Time will tell. I'll be back tomorrow with a time of minutes walked. See ya,

emoticon Did my weekly virtual 5K and this one on Sunday with Judy in mind...but it was cold and snowy and lots of places icy or not shoveled so the time was 46:18 which is the worst time I've done in about 3 months.

No walking in today but tomorrow is a trip to my moms so I'll get in quite a few steps. I can't exactly time how long I walk as I get on and off the bus and walk to her place and then back to the bus and on and off and walk home, etc. I haven't been able to stay completely on my challenge to walk for 100 days in a row but I am not trying to be perfect. Back on track in more ways than one, tomorrow and I am ready for the challenges I will face.

Only got in 10 minutes of walking indoors today. We had our old couch picked up and our new one was delivered. It looks so nice. Now I have to keep the dog off it till tomorrow evening when I get back with the couch cover. SO far she hasn't shown any interest in it. We cleaned the bedroom today and I did 3 days worth of dirty dishes so some neat time put in. Tomorrow is a trip to the doctors. That is good for at least a 20 minute walk outside. I hate going to the doctors. Oh, I forgot. We also have to get off the bus early and go pickup our blind for the dining room and the couch cover so that will mean another 15 minutes of walking. Who ho!!! Duh will attempt to hang the blind over the weekend and if it works out, we will FINALLY order the blinds for the living. Lots of excitement for a few days.

I got in my steps with no problem today. It was sunny and then cloudy so decided against washing my car. Knew if I did, it would rain for sure. Bought the coupon to do it and have to use it by 3/22 so guess I'll do it tomorrow. I know how depressing this weather is getting for everyone. It's only going to be 10 degrees on Saturday morning!

I didn't do any walking today. Just didn't want to. I know I need a better attitude but where do I get that?It is warmer this afternoon and I was able to sit out for a few minutes on the balcony. It is really helping the depression. I saw my Psychiatrist yesterday. We upped one of my meds so hopefully in a few days to weeks, together with the better weather, I will begin to feel more positive about everything. Right now I feel like I am just treading water. I lose 4 pounds and then gain 4 pounds. How does that happen? I am trying to figure out how I can use the Spark Solution program to jump start me but am finding it so far doesn't suit me. I am trying to change some of the food choices around to see if I can make it work for me. have a great week.

Well, good question. It always hurts...but it hurts so good when I finish my walking. They say the trick is to just keep moving or it will seize up. I have a foam roller that I use for the IT band and of all the things, that is the best. I'm not "eligible" to get a shot for another 6 weeks or so. I used to try to go a year between shots...then 9 months but am doing them every 6 months now.

I did hard physical labor for a lot of my adult life and I also play pretty hard so I've done this to myself...and the fat doesn't help it one bit. I can help make the fat go away...the damage I did in my earlier years is just now starting to come through. That stuff I don't think I will be able to make go away...but I'm going to give it my best shot.

We might get snow tonight. I really thought we were done for 5 days but it was sure dark clouds in the west headed in pretty fast. I need to get some work done in the yard. It's a muddy mess and the dogs come in with muddy feet every time they go out!!

Oh Linda. Does walking help or hurt your knee? I have torn cartilages in my right knee. I cannot knell on it at all but I just keep getting cortisone shots and arthroscopic work done every so often. I, like you, am avoiding deep surgery and the recovery. I am such a baby and would while the place down I am sure. LOL

Was able to walk today. I have done 1800 steps since 1pm was lazy getting dressed this morning. Won't get much more in today as bedtime is near for me, 8pm. If I just keep showing up every day, I am able to work on adding extra steps every day. Tomorrow won't be as warm out as today so I will start my day with a 13-15 minute indoor walk and take it from there.
Have a good night and a wonderful weekend.

Mine is an inflamed IT band which is the large muscle that runs from your butt down the outside of your leg and attaches in the knee somewhere. I have a bad knee with torn/nonexistent meniscus...it's my right knee and I've over-used that joint due to babying my left ankle. What it really comes down to is that I'm just getting older and falling apart. My hip joint is okay...it's the knee joint that I am trying everything to avoid having to replace. So more physical therapy and TENS unit and shots to keep that scalpel away for a couple more years. I know it will also get better if I lose more weight. So I just keep plodding along!!

Wow Linda. You know, a friend of mine was having trouble with his knee, hurting up into his hip. Turned out he needed a hip replacement and has been up and running since the operation. Hope they figure your problem out.

Had a rough 2 days with back spasms. I was able to walk today for 13 minutes but was laid up all day yesterday. Tomorrow I will be back to normal, I hope.

Got in 9000 steps yesterday but it was slow going. I was at the VA hospital and my knee was really acting up. Hopefully will get some answers as the pain radiates up to my hip and I was really limping when I got out of the car!

Been a busy few days.

Mar.9 = 13 minutes

Mar. 10 = 2350 steps a trip to the store and a coffee out

Mar. 11 = 4200 + steps- a trip to my mom's and the hairdresser. Got my hair cut and coloured and am ready for bed but it's too early. Expecting high winds and a snowstorm tomorrow all day but I will get my 13 minutes or more in for sure and will be counting my steps too.

Hi Linda. Yeasterday we went around the corner to look at new furniture. I walked for 15+ minutes. It is a 5 minute walk to the store. We were in the store for over an hour but not always walking. . I settled on 15 at least.
Today I walked indoors again for 13 minutes. It is getting better each day. Tomorrow will be another 13 minutes. WHoo Hoo.

That's great Gini. 10 minute challenges are so good because often by the end you have worked up to 12 or 15 minutes. Just do what you can and keep doing it!!

Hi, I am finally back here. Thought I'd catch up and let you know that I have walked every day of MArch for at least 10 minutes and that yesterday and today I walked for 12 minutes each day. WHoo Hoo. I am so glad I joined the 100 day challenge and I also joined the 100 days challenge team where you set your own 100 day challenge and the other help to cheer you on, like this team. I am going to the furniture store around the corner tomorrow, so, I will walk outdoors for a few minutes and also get into a store. It isn't too often that I get out.

OK Ginie!! Glad you are ready to get moving again...just remember slow and steady wins the race. This is the very beginning group and you can check out the Beginner's if you might be more comfortable there. It doesn't matter which group you want to follow, or even if you don't make the time to post daily, just so that you are getting in some steps everyday and trying to add in one more each day. You'll be amazed if you stick to it, how fast they will add up and how quickly you'll be up to 15 minutes and then 30. I'm thrilled you have re-committed to walking each day and love your 10 minute challenge.

Okay Linda. Here I am. Tomorrow the 100 day challenge begins, so I will start my walking tomorrow. I will not be on the 12 week program but will just be getting used to getting off the couch for a little each day. On Thursday, DH and DS and I went to Costco for 2 hours. I can walk for a pretty long time with a buggy for support. However, when I went to bed that night, my legs were in such pain, I had to take some Tylenol to get to sleep. I am so badly out of shape. NO, out of shape doesn't even say it. I am very nearly immobile. It is absolutely imperative that I strengthen my legs and back before I am chair bound for the rest of my life. Happy to see you still walking here and that I will have a few people to share this thread with. See you tomorrow.

You are a brave woman Linda. Yesterday I was so lazy that all day all I got was 593 steps. Of course while I was in the shower and while the fitbit was charging I didn't wear it. That wasn't many steps though. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I just decided to "suck it up buttercup" and bundle up and walk. The sun was shining and even though it was cold it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be and I ended up out there for 90 minutes. I felt sorry for people who didn't have their walks shoveled!

This year has not been good to me so far. First my knee was hurting and I had to get shots. This winter has been rough on all who live in the affected areas. I haven't done much wakling even in the pool. I was sidelined last week with a high fever. Just starting to get my energy back. On most days I still dance to 3 songs to get my steps in.

Hello Friends,

I walked along Lake Chicot yesterday for an hour. Today so far I have done 35 minutes on the recumbent bike which I have set up next to my computer so I can watch videos of Olympic Biathlon while acing along. Still need prayers for pushaways from Crystal Sugar which is sneaky and waiting to catch me in its snares.. Today so far so good. Thanks all. emoticon

Anybody walking in this group?? Don't have any ideas about the 2 new members since they haven't posted in the Intro thread and don't have pages set up or spark mail. Hope everyone is getting in at least 10 minutes a day of walking.

No!! I stay in the center of the hallways and walk fast. I don't go into the stores, I just walk laps in the hallways. Plus, I'm not a mall shopper. I shop at thrift stores and WalMart and the grocery store. Our mall, and most malls don't have any stores I'm interested in so it's easier to walk there without buying because I don't even look. I'd be in real trouble trying to walk the aisles of a store where I usually shop. Then it wouldn't be exercise for me, it would be retail therapy!!

Linda----Did you buy anything? The only thing I hate about going to the mall to walk is I see all kinds of things that I want and need but can't afford. It is very frustrating and really spoils the walk for me. Everyone keeps telling me you can go to the mall and window shop, what fun is that? Give me $$$$ and I will go and shop till I drop. We went Christmas shopping in 2012 when I first got my fitbit and I walked 14942 steps. Now that was fun.

Had good luck going up and down the stairs. Hardly any knee pain. Too cold to walk outside so I went up to the mall and did indoor laps. Not much fun.

Headed off for the laundry so will be doing stairs most of the day! Knees are much better with the braces for warmth!

Did my walk too fast on icy, snow-packed sidewalks so will be back to baby steps for a few days!

Was supposed to drive to Helena to the VA today but it's -25 and not supposed to get even -5 and it's 210 miles. I decided not to risk it in this cold for an appointment with the podiatrist. If I had been able to schedule at least one other appointment I probably would have driven down and then stayed overnight and come back on Wednesday...but I just don't want to be out on the road in this cold---and that's not even counting the wind chill.

I walked 10 minutes 6 times today to get in my hour but didn't even attempt the coffee walk. The sun was shining but the wind was blowing and it was just too darn cold to be out there. I'm thinking the only way I'll get in my 5K this week is if I go to the mall and do it inside. But I have been taking advantage of the spark videos. The one that's supposed to be at WalMart with Coach Nicole is not at our WalMart. Of course!! But I have lots of others and of course there is always Richard Simmons to keep me laughing and dancing.

I did the stairs to the laundry room a total of 20 trips today. Water heater crapped out on Saturday night so couldn't get a replacement installed until Monday morning but the plumber was here by 9 and had it installed by 10:45 and we had HOT water by 11:30.

The knee is much better. The TENS, massage and ice have been working.

Today I walked indoors for 11 minutes. I was supposed to take a rest day but I took it yesterday instead.

Yes, Linda that is where the problem is. I always lean on the banister, sometimes even the wall. If you climb 10 floors you get a badge on fitbit.com

Today I actually went for a walk. It was 33 degrees and sunny. It was brisk out but it felt good. I walked 1.2 miles. I saw 3 girls playing hopscotch. They drew it on a dead end street. A man was jogging. Cars were beeping horns. The sun felt good on my head. I enjoyed the walk.

I took a rest day today. It is freezing cold out and very windy. I stayed in my jammies all day. WHat a luxury. Well tomorrow I will do my ST and stretching.

Gini-the TENS they gave me is not nearly as effective as the big model that they use at the therapist's office...but it didn't cost me a dime and it does help when some of the other things aren't working. I just need to remember to wear the knee brace and to keep them warm. The ortho doc told me keeping those arthritic joints warm is the best thing for them...and I "run hot" so don't think much about keeping anything warm!!

Bonnie-Doing the stairs is a great accomplishment. I could go up and up and up...the knee just starts giving out when I go down the stairs!!

I got in my coffee walk at a strolling pace today. Now I'm off to chip more ice from the sidewalks. The mounds of snow are melting and filling up the sidewalks and driveway with ice so it's like a skating rink out there!!

Staples had free computer checks today so I brought mine in. While they were checking the computer I walked around the store for 20 minutes. When I got home I climbed up 3 floors carrying the tower. Then I walked back down and up for a total of 10 floors climbed. I have let my fitness slide because of my stomach pain the last couple weeks.

I've heard about TENS before. Does it really work well? I was offered that at Physio for my back but didn't get one.

I did 11 minutes walking today but that was all. I am so tired lately and have been dozing off 2 or 3 times a day. I am working on cutting back on caffeine and soda and am also trying to quit smoking. I guess my body doesn't have all it's usual kicking power. LOL It will get better.

I did my usual coffee walk this morning but stayed and chatted (really so I could rest up as my knees were having fits today) and then walked back so did it in 2 15 minute stretches. I also went out and chipped ice on the sidewalks and then did another 15 minutes. Not nearly what I was hoping for but my time was so good yesterday I figure it will all come out in the wash. I'm using the TENS on my knees tonight after a hot Epsom salt bath!!

Today was not a walking day on my program but I hadn't walked in 2 days so I walked anyway 11 minutes and it felt good. I felt so enthused that I also did a 9 minute Osteo back stretch video including some ST. Great day of exercise and it felt great!!!

Couldn't do the video I had planned today as my back was too bad ( Osteoarthritis).
Tomorrow I get to walk gain. I feel so much better now, the evening, and will be back on my feet tomorrow.

Today, day 1 , I walked for my 11 minutes, indoors. That is where I do almost all my walking as I hate winter and find it annoying to get all dressed up and go out for 10 minutes only. Plus I find it more difficult to walk in the winter from overheating, ice and snow on the sidewalks and strong winds off the lake. I joined the Chair Exercise team and will be doing 1 of their videos tomorrow. Hope to talk to others here soon.

I only walked for 15 minutes, partly because of the bitter cold wind chills and partly because my knee is not working as it should. I'm headed for the pool to walk laps and do some water aerobics and swim laps in a few hours.

Bonnie, You can certainly post your minutes of water walking in the threads. I am going back to the pool tomorrow and will do a lot of water walking minutes there in the next few weeks because of the dangerous wind chills outdoors. Plus I have done something odd to my knee and it could use a little less weight on the joint!!
