You are doing so great and I hope all is healing well after your surgery. I wish my last surgery had such a great outcome--open lung surgery took it right out of me--think the fact that they needed to cut the muscles and tissue to get to the right lung, set me back big time. But, at least it wasn't cancer -- just wish I could do something about toning the midriff area again, but per the dr., sorry -- that isn't going to be a good possibility for me any longer.

I'm just excited to hear about your next weigh in! I have a feeling we're going to see that super awesome 45 pound goal -- and how emoticon is that!!! Love it and emoticon

Eight months and I am down 43 lbs and that is with seven weeks of no activity at all after surgery. Hoping to be able to weigh in this Thursday, first time since June 23 hoping I am down enough to hit 45 lbs.

WE are not allowed to be disgusted with ourselves. Maybe you were short on whatever nutrition was in that binge you had going since Easter. I have not stopped eating since Raster morning and all of it us the the wrong type of food. I just keep shoving it in. Disgusted with myself but I can not seem to stop it is like the flood gates opened. I feel sick and I keep on doing it. On my way to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Keep up the good work, we are all doing so well. Remember to look back to the start and see how far we have come!

For me that is 18 pounds in three months. If I can do the same again in the next three months then by mid July I will be down to 16 pounds which will be a total of 36 pounds which would also mean that I would no longer be classed as obese!!

I had another bad week this week but I can see a difference in that I manage to get myself back on track much quicker than I used to so I guess I am winning mini battles emoticon

And when I start feeling down about my weight I remind myself of where I came from, we have all done really well emoticon

Jacqui--Whatever works for you with your tracking is all that matters.

I once tried the Zone Diet, and it was complicated with its precision measures of proteins, carbs, and fats. It was 40/40/20, if I recall correctly. One thing I do remember is the back pages of some chapter mention the EYEBALL Method. It was that measuring with your eyes with 3/4 of your plate as vegetables, and 1/4 as protein works--on a normal sized dinner plate. The palm of your hand minus your fingers is your max for protein at one sitting. That looks like less than six ounces.

Now all these years later, I notice that is how I am eating with SP tracking. In order to get in five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, my plate resembles the Eyeball Method. I only weigh my proteins (and if I have it, I measure 3/4 cup of quinoa, which replaced my rice, pasta, potatoes, and corn options for now). I also measure any sauces per serving on the nutrition label. With salads, I have dressing on the side, and I dip the fork tines into it before picking up the salad, which leaves most of the dressing not consumed.

I skip breads five days per week, but at breakfast on weekends I indulge in one slice of buttered, sourdough toast. That seems to put my bread cravings to rest.

Every night I punch in my calories at SP for the entire day, to see if I have any left for tea and one serving of girl scout cookies. I did not have any leftover calories last night, so I had to skip my tea and cookies. I thought about just having the tea, but the temptation to add the cookies would have been too much! LOL!

Hi everyone, thanks for all the well wishes! I had a bit of a shock this morning! I said to my mum that I felt a bit different last night but as I've not been paying much attention to what I eat and I've not been checking up on my weight for quite a while I didn't think I'd lost anything. She suggested I weigh myself at the end of the week but this morning I couldn't help myself. I've lost 12lbs!!! It's given me such a boost, if I can lose that much just from settling into a better routine imagine how much I can lose when I really try hard! I have amended my target date until Christmas because I really don't mind how long it takes to get the weight off, now that I know it IS coming off I'm just going to keep trying and whatever happens happens. No pressure.

My new job is going really well too. Last week I worked 8am - 2:30pm and this week it's 2:30 - 9pm and I have a 12 hour shift on Sunday. But then next week I only have 4 days worth of 8 - 2:30 to do and then I have 3 days off... it's going to be one of those jobs where some weeks are better than others but I think it'll really be worth it. I'll have plenty of time especially on the quieter weeks to walk the dog or go swimming for some exercise. I'm really excited!

I think it's a really good idea to have a paper food diary. I know technology makes it easy for us to input data wherever we are but for me sometimes seeing something written down in my handwriting is what makes it really seem real? That probably makes no sense to anyone else!!

Yes, I did start tracking on SP but I didn't always have the time and I figured if I have a notebook I can take it whereever I go. Mind you I have just downloaded the Spark app onto my phone and that looks really good because I can carry that around with me emoticon

Paper journal is a great idea. I once kept a hard covered journal when I was on weight watchers for my food and also left notes at the bottom about anything special that happened that day. Found it a year later and enjoyed reading it. With an iPad I find spark better because it does all the work. Maybe I should start using a journal for my special things. emoticon

I have decided to keep a paper diary to help keep me on track. Sometimes I struggle getting to the computer to enter everything, I find it time consuming. So I have got a notebook to write everything down and then I can up date the Spark diary when I have the time. I am also going to track if what I am eating is high in sugar or fat so I can keep an eye on those factors too.

To me HEALTH means Energy. Stamina. Flexibilty. A relatively pain free body. Enjoying healthy food. You are your body, and your weight loss efforts will succeed exactly to the extent that you mange to do the work on behalf of your embodied self. You’ll do much better when you focus on making positive changes to improve your health and well-being, rather than on fighting your bad habits.

Hello everyone!

I am SO sorry that I disappeared! Things have been absolutely hectic here! I went on a job interview back near home (I have been staying with my in laws over 150 miles away from home for the past year until we find work) and I actually managed to get the job! I had to sort out my job seekers benefit, starting my new job and also moving back to my Mum's for a while. There has been so much going on it's been crazy. I have just completed my first week of work and it is going really, really well although I am very tired.

As for the weight loss, I've not been tracking it but I have still been mindful about what I'm eating and my Mum is an awful lot more supportive about my weight loss than my in laws were. My Mum also has a hyperactive border collie who will walk forever so I'm making sure I get some really good exercise in too. I will keep trying to settle down over the next week and then I will start weighing myself again and really keeping on top of everything. I am so happy though, this is the exact life change that I have been needing to be able to do this and I'm so happy because now I know I can really do this.

I hope you're all well, I'm going to start reading through the posts to check up on how you're all doing now, it looks like everythings going well and you're all doing really well! I can't wait to get back into the swing of things 100%!

You have struck a nerve...
I have a thirty-year old daughter. She has always been thin and works out a lot. She has always made rude comments to me about my weight and my health. I have to tell her to mind her own body, and I will worry about mine. You can't say that to your mom.

I have a father-in-law who likes to ask my daughter in front of me, "How much do you weigh?" I am convinced that he does it because he wants to remind everyone at the table that I am fat. It influenced my daughter to feel embarrassed of me. Fat is a flaw in my father-in-law's eyes.

What my daughter (and her grandfather) failed to realize is that she has exercise habits at this age (30) because I took her to ballet from age 4, then to roller-skating from age 5, then to ice-skating from age 11, and bowling on her elementary school early release Thursdays. She had access to our family tennis club membership since she was 9. During high school, I required her to choose an extra-curricular sport or I would do the choosing. I taught her the exercise habit.

Now that she is not my focus, I am!

I hope you can find a way to ignore your mom's well meaning but hurtful comments. Maybe you can reply, "I love you" every time she stings you. When she asks why you keep saying it, you can tell her that every time she tries to fix you, it means, "I love you" and you are just loving her right back.

Jacqui my Mom has been saying the same thing for years to me. She does not realize how much it hurts, she honestly thinks she is being helpful.. I too love my Mom dearly. Get used to it, my Mom is now 90 and has not changed over the years, but I also know that she would do anything for my sisters or me, to the point she will not go into an old age home because she does not want to spend the money that she wants to leave to us. If she foes not notice the weight you have lost do not worry about it - she could be carting a picture of you in her mind from years ago, you did say you do not see her often. Just keep pushing and make this journey for yourself.

You are rocking Jacqui...it's more important that you focus on being a happier person and don't let the scales or your mum discourage you. You know you are doing the best you can at this time in your life. I was heavy the whole time I was raising my kids because it just wasn't a priority then with me. I had yearly check-ups and the Dr. always said I was healthy so I put my weight ego on the back burner till I got to a point in my life where I felt I had the time and energy to be selfish and worry only about myself for a change. That didn't happen for me till last fall. You have a busy family who comes first in your list of priorities and as long as you are well rested, healthy and happy that is more important than stressing about how other people think you should look. One lesson you can pass on to your children in your example is that criticism is not a supportive way to help others. Use your feelings of how you feel about others being so critical of you and find different ways to support other than criticism. Be proud of yourself for living a full and productive life and being there for others when they need you.

Back on track and feeling happier about things again. I did a DVD today at home and my 2 year old tried to join in, it was so funny watching her trying to do the squats with me emoticon

I am seeing my Mum in two weeks and havn't seen her since I started this journey because she lives a long way away. Although i love her dearly she constantly tells me outright how fat I am compared to what I used to be and that I look a mess and need to sort myself out (great support there!!) This usually leads to me turning to the biscuit tin. So anyway I am hoping that she is going to notice the difference. I am down 19 pounds and hopefully will lose a few more pounds before I see her in two weeks. I have lost 2 inches off both my upper legs, an inch off my knees and 5 inches off my waist. She had better notice!!! emoticon

Hi 1BOSSMOMOOY, yes I did have a Wii and we used to go on it alot but it is broken at the moment and I really miss it. I will have to see if I can get it fixed somehow. I am thinking of getting a bike to go out with them, my children are 10, 8, 5 and 2 and all love cycling (except of course my little one!) My husband has a bike with a bike seat on for her.

Jacqui...I love exercising with my grand children. They have a wee-fit that I go over to their house and play on with them. Their ages are 12 and 10 and they make me work to keep up with them. Having your kids home for spring break can become a great opportunity for you to exercise and play with them, setting an example and making fun memories with them at the same time. I miss having little children around to play with now that I am older and my kids are gown-up. I see my grand kids sometimes on a weekend if they aren't busy with other friends.

Just back from two hours at the gym and feel great. I did a body combat class that was SO hard but made me feel brill afterwards, then a half hour swim followed by a lovely rest in the Jacuzzi. I feel lovely now emoticon

That's the last time I get to go the gym for the next two weeks because my children break up for Easter hols on Friday. emoticon

So I need to get into some DVDs at home for a while instead. This is something I find hard because they just don't appeal to me and I have no where to do them so have to do them in the lounge in the way of my children. But I am going to do my best emoticon

I have joined the 5% Spring Challenge and hoping it will be what I need to keep me on the straight and narrow

I finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself and am so pleased to see that although I have not lost any weight I have maintained which is great news because I was expecting to have put some on

The weather has been changing so drastically here the past couple of days and it really affects my fibromyalgia so I'm feeling the strain of it right now. I did manage to put in my 30 min of exercises though even though all I want to do is wrap myself up in a blanket and not move at all. That's usually what I do when I feel a flare-up starting. I'm also having problems focusing clearly this afternoon

To me HEALTH means Energy. Stamina. Flexibilty. A relatively pain free body. Enjoying healthy food. You are your body, and your weight loss efforts will succeed exactly to the extent that you mange to do the work on behalf of your embodied self. You’ll do much better when you focus on making positive changes to improve your health and well-being, rather than on fighting your bad habits.

Hi Team,
Yes, WASC is over! It is the state of California's way of checking up on public schools to make sure there is teaching and learning going on with the curriculum prescribed. Instead of Open House for parents, it is Open House for the visiting committee to see us in action. We got a great debrief from the visiting committee, so that should turn into a good result from the California Dept. of Education, which means they won't return for as long as six years at the most, or sooner if we had done poorly on the visit. Cheers to six more years! We hope!

I did keep up with my tracking and water intake for the most part. I dropped off eight pair of pants to be taken in after losing 21 pounds. I am not ready to buy new clothes yet when I have 74 yet to lose.

Jacqui-I don't exercise yet...I am tracking and staying in the boundaries most of the time, and drinking up the eight glasses of water most days...You know this is a lot to do, tracking and all the SP stuff...Don't leave, please. We are in this for our own betterment. It only serves to improve us, and if that turns into a good outcome for everyone we love, all the better. DO this with me selfishly! We are worth it!

I am not sure quite what you were doing FVUSCMOM but it sounds important LOL! Well done for staying on track even when under stress emoticon

I am still struggling, not quite sure why but can't get my head into gear at all. I have managed to get myself to the gym today though so feel abit better for that
