OH my gosh, that's why some of these fad diets would bore me to tears! I could not eat the same thing day in and day out, week in and week out. Variety . . . it is the spice of life!

CD Barb ~ all good! Yes, meal variation is so important I think.

I can remember an ex-brother-inlaw of mine telling me that he didn't really want to go home from school because he knew what his tea was going to be that evening. How sad.. he said every Monday was sausages, every Tuesday was patties, every Wednesday was belgium, every Thursday was chops... you get the idea. He said his school sandwiches were the same.

I have always made sure that my family have plenty of variation and never the same meals week-in- week-out. emoticon

I do that too. I have gotten into the habit of putting my food for the day in the tracker and if I deviate from that, I go back and make sure I track that too. That was the only thing I was afraid of tracking my food @ once. But it works for me.

I also menu plan for the week. I have been doing this for awhile, so I have quite a collection of recipes. I pull what want for the week, make my grocery list @ the same time and I'm good to go. I, of course, do rotate meals so it doesn't get boring.

HUGS and here's to agreat day!

That's a really emoticon emoticon MJK Maria. Could also write your daily food - everything you're going to eat - down on a piece of paper, and everytime something is eaten, cross it off your paper.

THAT way, you cannot overeat for the day because once you've crossed everything off your list, you go to bed, lol, before you start nibbling at no-no's, right? emoticon

I am restarting my ADD woe .
Something I am going to do to see if it helps is to put the food I plan to eat for the day into Food Tracker at the beginning of each day . This way I know how many calories I will consume for the day . This way hopefully will also get it into my brain that this is my meal plan for the day & I had better stick to it too !!

We have been very active in the past few weeks with moving and I try to keep the body moving since I can see the difference with just walking up stairs and down and doing tons of yard work and my own horse clean up.
I've beentrying to keep moving.
Have to do better eating again.

Focus on moving forward.

**SIGH** With diabetes, that's a real issue . . . the empty calories in wine (any alcohol, for that matter, but that's the only thing I will sip @). So, has to be definitely calculated in the calories.

I like to have a glass of wine when we have family celebrations, but that's it . . . a glass and I'm satisfied. I am glad about that.

I suppose, for me, I spent too many years feeling horrid, so when I am tempted, I just remember that. I do NOT want to go back to that.

HUGS and a fabulous weekend, one and all.

Yes CD Barb, never let anything build up! Procrastination is a very BAD habit too. I don't have any worries about evening snacks either unless you count sucking a couple of mints and hard butterscotch lollies? Not 'reeeelly' a snack, eh.

At the moment RD Nola, cutting down on the wine is a MUST for me. All empty calories, but hard to NOT have a couple?

Thats a great idea with the paper junk Barb. It hangs around if you let it in the door doesn't it?
Luckily I don't have a problem with evening snacks emoticon but I do count two glasses of wine into my daily tracker.....my soul needs it. emoticon

The after supper snack is a challenge of mine too! But I build it into my nutrition so as long as I stick to the right food, right portion. THAT'S the trick!

I find when I get the mail MOST of it is "junk". So, my tip to prevent paper clutter in the house is sorting thru the mail by the recycle bin. NO hot spots with papers to be sorted thru in the house.

MJK Maria ~ that's quite a challenge and will be emoticon if you can refrain from snacking for the rest of the year. Bit much for me to handle I'm afraid. emoticon I haven't got THAT much will power, so kudos to you!!

The challenge here on our ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE Team is Spassing Exercises. 10 a Day if you can and try and either beat your own score or someone elses or invent a new exercise. Plenty of scope and it's all extra exercising throughout your day. emoticon

Go check out the Spassing Forum!! Good luck!!

Set a challenge for yourself . I have just joined a FB group which started a 100 Day Challenge til end of this year .
My challenge is to STOP snacking ( which often leads to a binge but not quite as often these days ) after evening meal . This is one of my problem areas for successful W8loss . Now won't I just feel so super wonderful to be able to do this for 100 days .

Nola ~ that is a great attitude, and a great way of keeping your mind on the job.

I buy Canola margarine in 1 kilo tub and when I pull it out of the fridge, I think to myself, hhmm... that is 1k (2.2pounds) of fat!! I can lose ALL that OFF my body in just 2 or 3 weeks if I keep my mind on the job!!

They were good tips Maria. We can buy our potatoes in Oz in 4Kg bags as some of you already know. When I am in our little IGA and no one is around I pick up 3 bags, that 12Kg weight is the amount I have lost since Christmas. If I feel like going off the straight and narrow I just think of those 3 bags of spuds, and it cures me. emoticon

LOL! The BLT's MAY be a rare affliction! It's just like me to get it too! LOL

Since DS has been gone, it is WAY harder to cook. I am not a big eater, and there's the 3 of us, DH/DD and me. So, I gave up trying to pare down the recipes and do as you do . . . freeze leftovers in meal size portions. They do come in handy!!

We are all different .. I don't have to prepare food ahead and (Barb) am never tempted with the BLTs .. emoticon sounds like a rare disease! emoticon

My (home) family is now just the two of us, but it is just so hard to cook for two after cooking for many all your life .. so I gave up trying and now cook for 4 or 6 or 8, whatever I feel is a cool number and just batch freeze in 2's for - as I call them - my spare man meals.

Can't do that with lots of meals tho', but casseroles and even chicken & rice meals, all cool!
Wigime (Genie) put me on to Twice Baked Potatoes .. and Tom and I tried (out of the freezer) 1 spud each yesterday with a sirloin pork steak. Wow, that was so very filling and yummo ... but pretty solid on the calories as the potato was full of well.. potato of course, but also bacon pieces and melted cheese, mashed up with milk and butter and loaded back into the spud.

Definitely preparing food ahead is a good idea. Keep you out of the fridge and the kitchen!

I plan my family's meals a week in advance and do as much prep work as possible ahead of time. Cuts down on the "BLT's" . . . . bites, licks and tastes.

When I'm tempted to taste a recipe I've used a million times I have to consciously remind myself, either out loud (yes, I do talk to myself! emoticon ) or silently (a little saner approach I suppose) "Barb, you've made this a million times before and know what it tastes like! If any changes need to be made do it just before you're ready to serve."

The less time in the kitchen, the better off I am (and more successful!)

Instead of icing a plain cake, grate a sweet apple over the mixture in the tin before baking and sprinkle over a little cinnamon and sugar. Top with chopped walnuts (not essential). Bake as usual.

I am on Dr Sandra Cabots Newsletter list. She is an Australian Dr that works a lot out of the States. She is mainly known for her work in getting peoples livers up and going again, naturally, plus a lot of other good stuff. I have been a fan of hers for over 20yrs.
In this weeks newsletter she included a juice for fluid retention which I thought you may like to see. If I have salt , weight goes on bigtime!!
Green juice

ideal for removing excess fluid

This juice recipe is strongly detoxifying and helps to remove excess fluid from your body.

3 stalks celery
4 kale leaves
green pepper (capsicum)
1 lime, peeled
1 large handful parsley
1 small cucumber
1 small green apple
A piece of ginger as big as you like

Pass all ingredients through a juice extractor and drink. emoticon

If I am holding fluid I have a big green salad for my night meal, usually pee all night and sometimes I can lose nearly a kg. I realised a long time ago I had a problem with salt so we don't have it when I cook or on the table, (mad scatter looking for the salt shaker when people arrive for a meal). Now I have this juice recipe I am going to try this.
BTW Sandra Cabot encourages things on her newsletter to be passed on to family and friends so there is no problem with copyright . emoticon

Only some of you are able to do this as a lot of you have other commitments, but, if you're stressed, hungry, feel as tho' you're going to mess up your Fast 500, or just feel a bit off colour, the best thing you can ever do is go to bed!

If you can't sleep, no matter .. your body is still. If your mind is working overtime, plug yourself into an ipod or a radio or TV or something.

Tip: if you use packet cake mix, sift the packet ingredients before using to ensure a lighter and higher cake.

Also if you use jam as a filling, it often soaks in. Lightly butter the cake before spreading jam to prevent soaking.

I'm on a roll ...

Tip:
To get more juice out of a lemon, knead the lemon first, then score around the middle without piercing the flesh. Microwave for about 40 seconds.. not too long or it will blow up! emoticon

Let stand for about 30 seconds and that's it. You'll get a lot more juice out of your lemon.

Tip:
So many people I know confuse cayenne pepper with paprika pepper.

Paprika pepper is NOT a hot pepper, but a sweet red pepper. Great for a garnish or sprinkle on top of any savoury dish when you want to add a bit of colour.

Cayenne pepper is very HOT so be careful when using it as a little bit goes a long way. Add it to some veggie dishes to give a hot flavour or very sparingly as a garnish.

emoticon -Loved your tips FIFIFRIZZLE especially " the less time surveying the contents of the fridge the better "
My tip is one I heard on Youtube & that is on your non fast days to eat good healthy foods & leave the junk food alone !! This way you will do so much better plus feel better too . You can & need to have your special treats though !!

I precook my chicken and steak, a bit rare, in batches, and freeze it to reheat in the microwave. I figure, the less time in the kitchen the better on fast days. To that end, I pack my lunch and pop it in the fridge so I just grab the bag and finish whatever prep quickly. The less time surveying the fridge contents, the better, too!

All good sound advice. I don't drink Tea of any description, can't abide the stuff, so I drink Bovril when the hunger pangs get bad. emoticon

Maria ~ I would be lost without my lunch time cup of Green Tea, however never tried with Peppermint. Interesting .. I've only just bought a huge pack of Green Tea bags, but next time I may try with Peppermint. Thanks for the tip.

My tip is:

Never deprive yourself of your favourite foods or drinks. If you do, you are doomed .. well, that's my opinion anyway. You can still have anything you want, but MODERATION is the key!!

What's wrong with having a couple of squares of chocolate when you want, or a glass or two or wine when you want, BUT as long as you're within the calorie range for your day!

You're the one in charge of YOU! Make it work for YOU! Enjoy your life and still lose weight without depriving yourself, yes!!

I always keep some vegetable water handy (not bean water though) and use it as a basis for soup/broth, stir-fry without oil, and anything savoury that needs liquid. Easy to de-freeze and possibly retains some nutrients that would otherwise be lost down the plughole!
