So the surviving turkeys will be fine, as I have blocked the entrance to the outside part of their coop. Dave will put up some chicken wire with smaller holes this weekend. The chickens are going to be able to go outside soon, so this is a good thing.

Looking forward to a 1/2 day of work tomorrow. Enjoy your evening!

Working the program because the program works.

Carol: Hey, thanks for the "shameless plug" for the MOTIVATION chat site here! emoticon

Actually, the name 1CRAZYDOG is because I actually have ONE CRAZY DOG, but after yesterday I suppose the name fits cuz I was CRAZED! But all better today.

Oh boy . . . Warrior Queen, Queen of the back doors and alternative ways to get things done . . . wear the crowns proudly!!! As well we should! We're our own best advocates, and if we can't --find someone who can/will!

Ah, foxes can get hungry! Love the deer photo!

Have fun today and good luck w/the paver project!

Lynn: Glad you've arrived and the closing went well. MUCH GOOD LUCK!!!

Just wanted to thank you, Barb, for the wonderful motivational quotes each day. So many times they are RIGHT ON and just what I need at that moment. I also love that others are sharing positive things there.

In case you haven't seen them, teamies, check them out.

emoticon Our Alison is here!!!!!! Whippee.

Good day, sunshines emoticon

Gosh, it feels good to wake up to you all and to the feeling of no regrets from eating the day before. Know what I mean?

Thanks to all you Trekkers for interacting on our Walk Across America. It makes it so much fun for everyone, including fun things for the Pied Piper. If you know of anyone of your friends that would like to join us, please invite them and send me their contact and I'll send the info about the Walk.

emoticon Barb, I sure know about those crazy days. Is that why you are Crazydog? Hotter than bejeezies here. Not sure what bejeezies is, but it must be pretty hot. I'm totally crossed here for Jason.

emoticon Nola, good to hear update about Don. It is scary to go through, I'm sure. Wonderful that we live at a time when science can deal with these issues. Hoping he will feel better soon. Sometimes, just going to the dr and seeing what is going on gives me such relief that I deal with the situation better. I'm a person that likes to know what I'm up against. You are right about fighting the mad feelings. I'm over that now and into the 'take charge' phase. I'm a Warrior Queen now ready for battle!

Yes, we do have foxes. Saw two babies sleeping out back a few months ago. Haven't seen them since. About 7 deer sleep in our back woods every day. There's a photo of a baby deer on my Spark Page.

emoticon Sue, you are doing great in stepping back into your exercises. That is my next step as well.

emoticon Tricia, miss you bunches!!! Know that you are having a great time with family and will be back soon.

emoticon Nicole, almost wedding day.....wahoo. Hoping your Dad will get into what the wedding is all about, the couple, and not him. Weddings have such a great feeling about them. The love is contagious.

emoticon Wendy, our winter last year was horrendous. Can relate. Stay warm and dry. Enjoy your trip with the kids.

emoticon Dorothy, looks like things have slowed down a bit for you.

emoticon Karen, wonderful that the low carb is doing its job. Working for me, too. Wish you were right next door, my friend. I agree in that I want to have 'good' carbs in my diet. I make brown rice occasionally and look for opportunities to have good carbs.

Teamies, I'm off to my book discussion day in Boonsboro. A friend of mine who is recently widowed in going with me. Bill (dh) usually goes because we love Dan's Grill there. He walks while I talk at the discussion.

Our driveway is being torn about as I 'speak' with our paver project underway. I'm very excited.

Gotta dash. Have a great day, everyone. Be the best you can be.

Again.....wahoo to Alison!!!

Ahhhh.... can YOU hear it ??? That's my sigh of relief heard round the world - even all the way to Australia!
I'm back in!
So, after searching on the internet for how to unblock, blocked websites - it was suggested to put an "S" after http - did that, and boom I'm in, immediately ( at least for now) I'm afraid to log off and try it again LOL

So I hope my day stays on the upswing! Thanks for your support and suggestions! Have a great day!

Wednesday – PHEW! Survived Tuesday. One of those days where I’d start to do one thing and see 10 others that needed attention as well! So, hoping today is a little slower in that regard.

Got the outside walk done. So nice outside! Low humidity. Saw a beautiful sunrise this morning. That’s always a treat.

So, onward with Wednesday – mid-week! That’s a good thing.

Nola: Glad they only had to take one bag this time, but indeed – scary that the blood was so thick/sticky.

Have all fronts taken care of w/Dad so far. Have talked w/his primary care Dr. (worked with him when I worked in ICU/CCU) and he’s going to talk w/the surgeon (whom I also worked with!) so they’re going to emphasize that he cannot be alone! So now it’s wait for Dad to have his Dr. visit and HE’LL TELL ME what the Dr. said, and voila – it’ll be the Drs. idea – not mine. I may have to repeat it, though, so looke, though, like I will win!

Thanks for the well wishes for Jason. Prayers, fingers/toes/eyes and anything else that can be crossed is crossed.

Travel safely. Glad you’ll have the grandies with you.

Dorothy: Hope the weather gets more cooperative! SHEESH!

I’m still dropping weight on Low Carbs 30-35% eating; will continue the no fruit and enjoying cheese, oil, nuts, veggies, meat, and dairy. Today, I will read more in the South Beach book because I tried the Dr. Atkins diet years ago but like the idea of more carbs in my diet.

hi Nola, yes I have got the shocking weather, so cold and windy. But not as bad as down south. Still don't like it though. I have decided that I am a summer person after this winter and it is only half way through LOL. Got to a whole 14C (57 F) today.

I have to go and pick up my son tomorrow so he can work on Friday so I am taking my 3 other grandies with me so they can spend some time with Brennen. Should be good. I will be taking my camera so I hope to get some photos of the 4 together. School holidays here which is why they can come with me.

Thanks for the good wishes for Don. He had one bag of blood taken, and another one in 3 weeks unless the Specialist gets back to us after all the testing of the blood to come in earlier. The scary part was the thickness/stickiness of his blood it just came out so slowly and had to be helped along. I kept thinking of how hard his heart and body had to work to keep that muck moving around. No wonder he felt so terrible.

Carol so sad to hear you are having trouble getting your tsh levels right. Good on you for taking control and asking for other tests. I do hope it all works out for you. meanwhile you are not whining, we care about each other here. Don't get mad about not getting your steps, the getting mad part will do you more harm than the good from the steps. Hang in there friend. Congratulations on the 4 days sugar free.

Allison have you looked at your Firewall and seen whether it has turned SP off. Firewalls do sneaky things like that. I do hope you can resolve it soon. It must be terrible trying to do SP on a mobile phone. I use Google Chrome. I find it works best for me.

Windy poor turkeys, what a way to go! Is it Coyotes? Do you have foxes in the States. The English brought them out here for hunting in the olden days and now they are everywhere, killing all our little native creatures.

Sue keeping the fingers crossed your new exercises are helping. emoticon

Wendy that is an interesting stage when babies get mobile and into everything. have fun with Brennen. Are you getting the chilly weather or has it past you already. The weather map looked a bit ho-hum around your way this morning. emoticon

Barb how is the reverse psychology going with your Dad? It is so hard, I hope he has a light bulb moment and asks you what you think of his idea. Re keeping my mouth shut as I said in my last post, I don't, I always have my say, and I am lucky I can be quite assertive when needed, without getting people stirred up. I think the "mother bear" comes out when it is about the people you love. Fingers crossed for Jason. I do hope it works out for you both. emoticon

Nicole I hope things are smoothed over with your father so it doesn't effect the joy of the wedding. I hope you have those photographers lined up, so we can all see how beautiful you all look. emoticon

Dorothy did you get to golf? I hope the rain kept away. emoticon

I miss Tricia, she should be back before too long. I bet she is having a great time with her son and his family.

Karen good luck with the new track with eating. I've never actually tracked carbs, but I know I feel so much better without too many grains in my diet. How did Mels pizza turn out. I know if I make it I will eat it. emoticon

Alison,

What browser do you use? Netscape? Internet Explorer? Safari? I had trouble with getting on some sites with Safari and downloaded Google Chrome, which is free.

What brand of pc are you on? HP? Mac? Using Windows?

Is SP the only site you can't get? Seems that it is. Maybe it is blocked somehow in your settings.

I know it is trial and error. Good luck and we are frustrated, too, that you can't get to us enough.

Good luck....will continue to think on it.

Hugs,
Lady Carol

So fun to read everyone's updates!

Yesterday I restarted my workout streak, and today was day 2.

Woke up this morning to 2 dead turkeys in the coop. Of course I had to get them out, as my hubby is out of town this week. EWwww! I got the shovel and picked them up with that, and threw them into the field. Talked to hubby tonight, and he thinks a critter grabbed them from outside the coop and killed them, but couldn't eat them because they were too big to get out! So I blocked the door, and they cannot go to the outside part of the coop until hubby gets home and puts an extra layer of chicken wire up. The other 3 should be fine. The chickens are all ok, because they are to little to be going outside yet.

I will restart my tracking streak tomorrow.

Good night, friends!

PS Yea! The Spark Activity Tracker is back up and running!

Hello friends...Still having computer issues and I am so very frustrated. It's to difficult to maneuver through this big web site on a tiny phone. Have communicated with the Spark People Person (kind of fun to say that LOL) twice and did everything they suggested and it still hasn't helped. We even goggled "connection issues with Sparkpeople " and THAT won't connect! What the heck! - Anything SparkPeople related just wont connect but everything else on my computer will! (I'm actually at a smoothie shop right now that has computers- so just checking in with you guys) The SP person apologizes for having no other suggestions! :( SO if you have any ideas on what could corrupt this website would love to hear suggestion. Cleared cache, cookies, rebooted router, checked for viruses etc already... This just plain sucks!

Nicole - congrats on the being the mother of the groom!! You know we won't forgive you if you don't post pictures!

Well my time is up :( Have to get off the computer.. Stay well and I will keep in touch as much as I can.

emoticon Hello there, my beautiful friends,

I've been on the run since my last posting. Good news to report on the Sugar Monster front. Battle raged and I won! Into my 4th day. Thanks for all the support. I am determined to take control of my health and get stronger. You might remember my mentioning that my tsh was high and the dr upped my synthroid. Well, it has not worked and I'm pretty miserable. I've been trying to work through it, but have been getting a bit down, which is not like me.

I'm taking actions to rectify the situation. Just got home from doing a blood test to see if the new dosage is starting to work. Asked for testing of other things, so I can see what is going on. I have occular migraines, dizziness, weakness, achiness, etc. I am whittling away at the various symptoms. I do have sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease affecting my system, which has been in remission for years.

I don't like to whine, so please don't take this as a 'poor me' kind of thing. Like you, I believe that if we know what each of us is going thru that it is beneficial. I feel that if I post the negatives than it prepares me for the actions that I need to take. It is a process. I seem to have to slow down lately and am mad because I can't do my 12,000 steps.

emoticon I need to do what I can and build up and focus on what I can do instead of what I can't bottomline......

It is critical that I get the sugar and overeating in line. emoticon

emoticon A special thank you to those of you (and that is just about everyone) who have shared what they are doing about their challenges in life. It is very uplifting and also gives me ideas of what to do.

I totally believe that we have more control of our general health than we might think.

emoticon DAILY GOALS
~ NO SUGAR
~ Healthy food choices
~ NO OVEREATING

emoticon Barb, great news that Jason is going for his second interview. Thank you for your daily thoughts and goodies. You are the greatest!! Good luck with your Dad deciding to move. I had to kidnap my StepMom.....lol. Having the dr tell her that she needed to be near family and have the grandkids talk to her helped. She really responded better to my son in that he said she MUST be nearer to him. Prayers on the way.

emoticon Nicole, I am getting excited about the upcoming wedding, too! It is going to be super. Make sure we can see a pic of you in your wedding finery. My MJ group is one that I started after I came back from learning to play in Florida. I loved it so much that I got some of my friends to learn. Now, we have 3 or 4 tables. I LOVE MAH JONGG.

emoticon Sue, less pain in the knees is a good sign. My foot is about 90% okay. Do get a pain in my heel every so often.....but less and less. Know it takes time to heal our bodies while using them.

emoticon on the sugarless coffee. Also, well done on all that cuddling. Wish my grandbabes were little still.

emoticon Nola, thinking and praying for you and Don today. Eager to hear how it went.

emoticon Windy, glad you had a good time over the 4th camping. Good for you in exercising. Jot it down and go back and fill in the days you missed on SP. You are really being consistent. Way to go.

emoticon Karen, I'm doing low carb, too. I can tell it is already working and the cravings are much less now. Got my nighttime eating under control....that is the hardest to do. Happy biking.

emoticon to all the other Onefers out there enjoying their busy worlds. Thinking of you.

Take care of YOU today,
Lady Carol emoticon

Tuesday – Very nice today . . . much less hot and humid. Already did my walk. Was going to walk last night, but it was stormy. Seems to be the norm right now.

Jason had good news today. He is going to Kentucky for round #2 interviews w/a company on the 22nd and 23rd July. So, forward movement we hope!

Otherwise, still doing “battle” with dad about going THERE to take care of both of them. Have to let it simmer for a bit, though, because ultimately I want it to be HIS idea. Then he’ll agree. Sheesh!

Have a great Tuesday. Drink your water! It’s hot out there.

Nola: OH no! Sorry to hear that news. I’d be a little hesitant about 2 bags being taken @ the same time as well. I sure would be on top of ‘em as far as monitoring him after the 1st one to determine if the 2nd should be removed at a later time so he can recover! I’d be having a hard time keeping quiet! Sending hugs!

Wendy: Good that you got to spend time w/that little cutie Brennen! Oh boy, crawling means nothing is sacred anymore! Have to bubble wrap everything! LOL

Good for you on the sugar. You’ll find your taste buds opening up to more flavors now that the sugar is kicked to the curb!

Sue: Fruit is healthy, but also a source of sugar (fructose), so it does have to be moderated. One thing about banana is it is a starch-resistant fruit. That means it is not easily converted to sugar.

Good job on the steps and the water.

SHHHHH! Glad the knee is feeling better (she whispers so as not to be a jinx)!

Nicole: Good job on the outside work and yes it IS a work out!

Families can often test our patience. **SIGH** Wishing calm and peace on your DS’s wedding day!

OH boy! Can’t wait for you to get your jewelry! How exciting!

Got a lot of yard work done yesterday. Front and back, mowing, edging, and trimming. That's a great workout! And, it feels so nice to see what I've accomplished. Today I don't have a lot scheduled; dropping my son off at school, a little shopping, keeping my DH company on a drive to Orlando, and then picking up my son. Other than that, perhaps some housework and miscellaneous wedding preparations (still need a card and gift wrap, and figure out what to do with my hair). The jewelry I ordered to wear will be arriving today, and I am excited to see how it looks in person.

BARB – I think you are definitely going to win this “discussion” with your father! As for my father, this conflict has been going on for years. It's just that sometimes things get buried for a while. But, we are at a point now where, not only have things surfaced again, but I don't know if there will be any more calms. I just want things to be peaceful for my son's wedding.

CAROL – I hope you had fun at Mah Jongg yesterday. How often do you play and with how many players?

KAREN – I hope the wind you are sending to blow the cloud over is hurricane strength! Do you always ride your bike on the same trail or do you have a variety of routes?

LIN – Welcome to our team!
emoticon emoticon

NOLA – I am so sorry about Don! Wow, that is a lot of blood to take all at once. I hope they get the results quickly so they can get the proper treatments ASAP. I know you must be so worried.
emoticon emoticon emoticon

SUE – I hope your back starts feeling looser and less sore soon! The exercises will definitely help!

WENDY – Nice that you were able to enjoy Brennen cuddles! I hope he is feeling well now.

WINDY – Your 4th of July weekend sounded fantastic!

Nola hope all goes well with Don.

Karen I like bananas and fruit in my smoothie too, but did read that too much fruit is so good for losing weight either. Will have to cut back a bit and see if that helps.

74oz of water yesterday and 3,192 steps plus back exercises. Shooting pains in my knee seem a little less but don't want to jinx things! emoticon

Goals:

74oz water
no sugar
Watch carbs
Back exercises
Keep moving during the day.

back again. I hope Don copes with this tomorrow Nola. I think I would be saying something to the doctors as it does seem a lot.

I had my youngest grandson today for an hour and as he is just getting over the flu I managed to get lots of cuddles from Brennen. Usually he doesn't like staying still for long now, he has things to do and places to go (crawling). Puts the biggest smile on my face.

I am still not adding any sugar to coffee or food. Do not miss it at all.

Hi everyone, this is a quickie. We have a bit of an emergency with Don. The flu has played havoc with his blood problem. Luckily we can get an appt at the hospital with his Haematologist first thing tomorrow and they are going to do a big bleed of his blood, the Dr mentioned 2 bags, yikes, I'd rather one bag x 2 times with a few days in between. This is where I have to sit on my hands and keep my mouth shut. Anyway hopefully it will get him back on track.

Hugs everyone.

Karen: Glad you are going to try it. If you search 2 ingredient pizza dough, or yogurt pizza dough, you will also find some recipes that tell you how to adjust if you don't have self-rising flour. Personally it is probably better to use regular flour and add your own leavening as you can control the salt better. Self-rising is a bit saltier than regular flour.

Windy: Glad that you had a good time camping!!! Welcome back.

We had a great 4th of July weekend, and I'm hoping everyone else did too! We camped with my mom and her new hubby. The weather was perfect. My hubby caught many fish and we enjoyed them last night for dinner. I had internet at mom's camper, but I only stayed on long enough to keep my log-in streak going. Even though we didn't go to any official fireworks, many folks living on the lake shot them off, and we enjoyed a great show!

I was a little disappointed to discover the Spark Activity Tracker server was down, but I hit the gym anyway! Glad I did, the work out was great!

Have a super Tuesday!
Love you all!

Karen: Bananas get a bad rap, but for ME, it's all about how often and portion size when I have one. But that's all under the category of listening to the body!

Good luck!

Here's the recipe (really just the ingredients - - you need to knead it like dough and roll and press it out.)

1 cup greek yogurt and 1 cup self-rising flour

Monday – well, a busy Sunday. Had several errands to run. Got it done, though! It was one of those days I didn’t feel like eating, but knew I had to, so I did. Besides had to cook for Jason and Clara!

Working my way through figuring out how to take care of Mom and Dad together! He still doesn’t want me to be there, but I’m a “sore loser”, so plan on winning this one!

Gorgeous day, but will be hot and humid. The sun came up and it was hot for my morning walk already . . . early in the morning! But supposed to cool off the next several days.

And with that, I’ll sign off! Have a great Monday. Keep sparking.

Nola: Thanks for the link on Mountain Bread! Don’t know of any American equivalent! Hope you enjoy your Swiss Chard Tortellini Soup! I love soup any time of the year, but especially in Fall and Winter to take the chill off!

Mel’s recipe for the pizza dough using just yogurt and flour is so good! I absolutely love yogurt in any way, shape or form. Greek yogurt, though . . . thick. Glad you got to talk w/her!!! AND that she’s doing well.

BTW, here’s her pizza dough recipe: 1 cup of greek yogurt, 1 cup of self-rising flour. That’s it!

Karen: Keep the ( | ) ( \ ) ( | ) ( / ) butt moving! Glad that low carbing it is helping. There are so many who benefit from it. Being type 2 diabetic, I follow that too. I never, ever go over 40 grams/day. That’s all my bod can handle. And I tend to have my carbs throughout the morning and very little from noon on. My blood sugars are happy that way. I take part of South Beach and tailor it to my needs.

Nicole: Hoping you get good news from your son re: his foot!

Sorry to hear about the relationship problem. Weddings have a way of bringing things like that to the fore. **SIGH** HUGS.

Carol: I grew up in Chicago, so this was "old home week". Have to have your walking shoes, because there is so much to see and do!!! The lakefront is spectacular.

It is too early to check in on my son, but when I do, I am hoping he will tell me the swelling in his foot has gone down and that he is feeling much improved. As excited I am about the wedding, there is a dark cloud hanging over me. Relations with my father are not good right now. Not just between him and my DH, but also between him and me. It's a shame for things to be this way during such a happy time.

ALISON – I hope you get your computer issues with SP resolved soon! How frustrating!

BARB – I hope you work everything out with your father, so that everyone can be cared for properly.

CAROL – Thank you for trekking us to Chicago!

KAREN – Such a gorgeous trail to ride your bike on! I am still FaceBook friends with Jane, so I get to see lots of cute photos of her daughter doing things like dance recitals and learning to swim. Also, Jane has taken up knitting, and is quite good! I have not actually communicated with her personally, but she has not had her 2nd baby, yet. As for the wedding, I am almost ready! Just the final fitting of my dress on Wednesday, need to get a card and wrapping paper. Maybe trim up my hair. All the big stuff is done though!

NOLA – I have never tried Silver beet. It must be good! Do you have any other interesting things growing in your garden?

Here is the Aussie version of mountain bread, versatile. No cholesterol, no yeast, no sour dough, no dairy products, no eggs and most 98% fat free. In various grains, we mainly use the Spelt ones only 75cals a sheet.
www.mountainbread.com.au/

Nicole you really are on count down now. Thanks for sharing it with us. I hope your sons leg gets better by the big day. Thanks also for your link to the orchestra and your Independence day celebrations. It must have been a happy time. emoticon

Dorothy you are still working too hard. Great your work cafeteria serves up salads. The deserts are probably to test your willpower. emoticon We use Greek yoghurt for so many things it is so handy, dips, mayo, and Mel sent me a recipe just Yoghurt and flour for Pizza base. I haven't tried that one yet, but intend to.

LINWINAGAIN great to have you here friend. Jump in and have your say, everyone does which is great. Have a look at the 5% challenge topic, you have only missed a week and you can slot in there nicely.

Carol Chicago is looking good, I have just glanced at it, but will get back when I finish here. Thanks for all your hard work wrangling/pied pipering us. We do appreciate it. Congrats on the no sugar day, it is like giving up smoking , the more you do the easier it gets.

Barb we picked our first lot of Silver beet (Swiss Chard ) yesterday it was on the table no more than 20 mins after it was growing. Delicious! I'm going to try your Swiss Chard Tortellini soup. We are going to have so much of it around, that will be one way of using it.

Karen thanks for the links. I used to make Yoghurt when we milked a cow way back in the dim dark ages, and the milk was unpasteurized . It is almost impossible to buy raw milk here. The "Nanny" State thinks it knows best and again has to tamper with the whole food. emoticon There was something else, besides eggbeaters that I see mentioned often in SP recipes that I must find and check it out, can't think what it was at the moment, having a senior moment. Loved your bike trail, that butt will just disappear before our very eyes with the riding. It must be lovely to get out an about on your bike.

Lovely to know Lynn has made it to Florida. It will be lovely for them settling into a new community. Thanks for passing that on Nicole.

Lois is driving again on the back roads, which must be a big step forward for her, and sometimes does not need her walker and cane. She said she will get back to us, but at the moment is concentrating on recovery.

Had a big long phone call to Mel this afternoon, she sounded good and sends you all her love.

Must check out Chicago!!

Sunday – Got out for my walk and it’s wonderful! Supposed to get warmer and more humid towards mid-week, but nice today. The sun is out so enjoying it.

Well, life just gets more complex. Dad says he will probably have to have hernia surgery. He will see his primary care physician on Monday and then I assume be referred to a surgeon. He asked me to take care of Mom, which I of course will do, but it’s a matter of how to go about it. He doesn’t want me to stay there. He wants to have Mom here. I just cannot see that working @ all, because HE is going to need someone to take care of HIM too! But that is a thought he’s not facing right now. **SIGH** So, will talk with him later this morning and get things squared away. If I have my way I will spend at least a week in IL to take care of them. Don’t know how it’s going to work, but it has to work, so that’s that.

So, that’s all the news that’s fit to print from here . . . or not!

Have a blessed Sunday.

Carol: Well, when it got right down to brass taxes, it was either make the changes or decline in health and I just wasn’t about to go down in flames without a fight! I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree on that one, because that’s how both my parents are! It’s totally worth it! Spark on!!!!

Nicole! OH boy! The countdown begins. Glad your DS’s foot is a little better. Glad your concert went well and thanks for the link!!!

The concert went very well on Saturday. We weren't sure it would happen because there were a couple of hours of on-and-off rain (mostly on). It didn't affect me, but it did affect DH with his vending. He still did pretty well, but he could have done much better had he not lost those two hours when everyone was headed under cover.

Only six more days till my son's wedding. He had his bachelor party yesterday; came by in the morning to pick up my younger son. DH and I picked him up from my son's apartment in the late evening (didn't want him to have to drive two hours round trip after such a busy day). My engaged son injured his foot while playing putt putt golf. He lost his footing and bent it back and fell on it (apparently, he overexerted himself playing laser tag and that had weakened his legs). It was very swollen and painful last night. We were going to take him to a walk-in clinic or ER, but it was quite late, at that point, and he was very tired. Said he would go if it didn't improve this morning. He sent me a message, a couple of hours ago, saying it had improved a lot. Still swollen, but much less pain, and full range of motion. Hopefully, it will be all better by Saturday!

Most days I track my food in the LoseIt app in my iPhone. I have the SP app, too (I used to use it), but I started the LoseIt app while I was absent from SP for a while, and getting back into the swing of tracking. One of the things I like better about it is that I don't need to have an internet connection. I try to limit the amount of pasta, rice, and bread, getting most of my carbs from fruits and vegetables.

ALISON – I'm so glad you made your way back to SP and to this team! I agree, FatSecret.com is a horrible name! Who wants to know that secret??? (Don't we already know it?) FitSecret would be much more appealing. But, their loss is our gain! I'm so sorry about the struggles you and your DH have been going through, and I'm so happy you are a survivor!!!

BARB – Thank you for the recipe forum; what a fantastic idea! You sure are organized when it comes to shopping and cooking. What great skills! I like doing those same exercises that you posted. Plus, my chiropractor prescribed that I do exercises to strengthen the core, and those are great. So sorry to hear about the problem with your father. I hope everything goes smoothly with that.

CAROL – I'm so happy to hear you had a great time at Cape May. Sounds like a lot of fun! Thank you for the link; very beautiful and charming. What a cool idea, posting a recipes forum, thank you! You would have enjoyed our playing of “Armed Forces Salute” at our Independence Day concert. I'm sure you've heard that one a time or two!

DOROTHY – Terrific to see you! I hope your time at SIL's house will be relaxing, after the hectic week you've had!

KAREN – How did you like those two exercises? Does your butt feel better, lol? I do those exercises regularly; they are the type of exercises my chiropractor has me doing, ones that strengthen my core and butt. When I do the second one, I like to use a stability ball to help hold myself up. It is easier on my wrists. I noticed that the FitBit used to count my SparkPedaling, too. But, it was sort of spotty, often it would record the pedaling, but other times it would not pick it up.

NOLA – Had to laugh about your egg beaters story! So funny! I saw on Lynn's FaceBook page that she made it to Florida yesterday. I can't see Lois' blog because she has her page set to private.

SUE – I'm glad the news from the doctor has an optimistic prognosis. I have arthritis in my back, too. I don't have a pinched nerve along with it, but I have sacroiliac joint problems. Sounds like your doctor gave you great advice. You sure do have a busy summer! Sounds great!

emoticon Good day, Onefers!

Lovely day here in wild and wonderful WV. Love seeing all the sharing of eating plans. It is very inspirational. I've picked up some really good things that I am going to try.

emoticon I had a good healthy eating day yesterday. My first no sugar day in a while. Thanks mainly to being here.

emoticon Dorothy, missed you, too, but sounds like you are having a great holiday w/e. I use sea salt, as well and am a big tea drinker, hot and cold. It is my mainstay. Glad you got to counter all that extra work with good times.

emoticon Nola, awesome job on losing 48 lbs. I can imagine that it makes a huge difference in all aspects of your life. It is wonderful that you can eat mainly food you grow. What is mountain bread? Great idea to eat on smaller plates. I am very impressed with your dedication to your program and how it has paid off. DH and I tend to eat just 2 meals now that we are retired. We're having salmon today. I'm trying to honor my commitment to cut down on meat.

emoticon Barb, you are really encouraging me by how focused you are in your lifestyle. You really took control, teamie. I admire you greatly for that. Hoping it is contagious.

Wonderful to be a part of such a great group of people who are really working at being healthy, not just thinking about it. Got to put action to my words and stand beside you.

Enjoy your Sunday, everyone,
Lady Carol emoticon

i sure did miss you girls - life just got so hectic and I never had time to get back on the computer to chat. I had to fill in for the girl i work with Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Wednesday son and I had dermatoligist appointmts. Friday we hubby and I ahd our familys over after the parade and some friends and it was a lovely day. Yesterday the neighbor and I went to the farmers market and then I ran some errands. When I got back I helped my neighbor in her garden. Afterwards we took our kids to the frive in. And today we are going to hubbys sisters house to his mom before she heads back to South Calorina.

Nola - what an inspriration you are with your eating. You too Barb. I am leaning more and more that way. I do eat very little sugar other than my sweets. I eat alot of fruits and veggies typiclally. Our cafeteria at work has an awesome salad bar and fresh fruit daily. But they also have desert daily and I love my desert. I love cheasse but cabot makes a wonderful low fat cheddar chees and I love it. I do enjoy greek yougurt and just found an awesome greek yogurt deip with dill. Wonderful with raw veggies. I eat very little salt and have to watch it becasue I hae low sodium. I adore sea salt on roasteed veggies. I drink lots of water daily and tea. Limit my coffee to 2 cups. And I love my wine but do not drink daily.

Barb - need I say stress. You certainly have had your fair share of it. I am sure you will figure it all out - hugs.

Dorothy: Just glad you’re ok. Miss you!

Nola: So happy to hear that the weight loss helped your Arthritis. Mine too! Osteo in the knees and it is sooooo much better with the weight gone. Didn’t know that each lb. on our frame creates 3-4 times our body weight per square inch on our knees! OY!

Your eating sound very much like mine – no salt, and very, very little sugar – most of any sweetening I need is agave syrup, a small bit of hone and that’s it. But never crave sweets, so that’s a blessing. Processed foods – blech! Greek yogurt – love love love it! Concentration is on veggies, moderate amt. of fruit. Even though it’s natural sugar, it does tinker with my blood sugar if I eat too much. LOVE good olive oil. Has a nice, fruity taste to it. I use the smaller plate trick, too! IT REALLY WORKS! Fools the eye. Great tips and thank you for sharing!

Dorothy thanks for dropping in. Don't work too hard!!

Alison it is great to have your partners support. Mine has been fantastic right from the start. It is such a help to stay on track.

Karen I checked out your exercise link and I have my eye on your butt. emoticon Cabin fever is alive and well here. Thanks for the spring flowers.

Carol thanks for the egg beater link. You will have me educated before you know it. emoticon

Sue it didn't take me many pounds lost before I was able to give up my arthritis pain killers. Now with 48lbs gone I feel great, BUT I have to keep moving to stay flexible. How lovely to have all those visitors to look forward to, you will be busy. Excellent that you can swim in your lake. emoticon

My healthy plan is staying at the low end of my SP calorie range. Tracking my food on SP but also taking into consideration the nutrition tab and finding food that is hi nutrition but lo cal.
We eat loads of fresh vegetables, our daily 3 fruits (I don't go overboard on fruit) We have access to lovely vegetables and we grow a lot of our own.
Dairy consists of plain potset Greek Yogurt and occasionally cheese.
Lots of fish, sometimes beef and pork.
Sometimes beans, chick peas, eggs, brown rice, oatmeal.
I use local cold pressed olive oil
Rarely eat bread, sometimes have mountain bread for rollups.
I try not to buy anything manufactured, packaged or canned, it doesn't always work, amd if I have to I am an ingredient reader, I always look at the additives and preservatives etc. I'm not a fan of "lo this" or "lite that". I'd rather have the real deal and less of it than have something that has been tampered with.
I haven't used salt for over 30 yrs and probably about a 1Kg of sugar a year if that.
We very rarely eat out and prefer to go to, or have friends here for a meal. Since retirement we have used smaller plates, and since starting SP smaller wine glasses, unless we have friends in. I have 2 small glasses of Red wine a day and factor that in to my cal range.
Thats about it. I believe you either want to do it or you don't.
Forgot 2 litres of water every day. I've never had a problem drinking water. Plus vigilance with portion sizes.

Alison: I am type 2 diabetic. The key is avoiding the simple carbs -- aka, sugars! Anything white is out for me -- white rice, white flour, white potato, processed foods. If you eat whole foods, that's a huge step. My diet is a variation, I suppose, of the Adtkins diet or South Beach. IF you research those diets you'll get some good ideas about low carbing it.

Maybe a trip to a nutritionist would help??? That's what I did.

1KSBEST -- still trying to get a handle on a food plan. The cancer that I had was a Carcinoid and they don't know much about Carcinoids but generally speaking they know that cancer doesn't like sugar. My husband was recently diagnosed with Diabetes so now we can get serious together. I ordered a book a few days ago that I hope will give me some guidelines. Its been tough finding anything definitive on line - I just need someone to say - this many carbs, this many this, this many that for each meal and I'll be ok - I think :) It's seems quite complicated right now - I'm welcome to any incite, meal plan suggestions, books, etc

Carol: I do track, definitely. I weigh and measure to make sure of proper portion size. The eyeballs are a master of deception for me!

I journal, because that gives me a link between foods I’ve eaten and any affect it may have on my blood sugar. Important.

I eat between 1200-1300 cal./day and it is generally consisting of complex carbs, proteins and healthy fats. My complex carbs include fruits in moderation and veggies, my proteins are beef, chicken, pork (all in moderation) and fish (salmon, generally).

Mindful eating is a MUST for me. My steadfast rule is I will not eat anywhere else but the table. Period. So, I allow myself 20 minutes. It works for me.

Strengthening both the core and the quads (the thighs) will help. Some I do:

Squats: Hold onto the back of a chair and go down like you’re going to sit down in it OR if you want, have the chair in position like you were going to sit down and lower yourself, and then up. Repeat about 10 reps x 2 times (or whatever works for you.)

Bridge ups: Lie on the floor. Knees both bent with your feet flat on the floor and your arms at your sides. Then use your thigh muscles and butt muscles to raise up that tush. ( | ) ( \ ) ( | ) ( / ) LOL

Leg adductors: Standing holding onto the back of a chair, feet flat on the ground, swing your leg towards your body in front of the other leg. Repeat 10 – 15 time x two.

Leg abductors: Standing holding onto the back of a chair, feet flat on the ground, swing your leg away from your body. Repeat 10 – 15 times x two.

Do those leg exercises for both legs.

emoticon Morning, Glories!

emoticon First of all, Barb, you have my mouth watering with those tasty recipes. Wish I had some acorn squash in the house. YUM! Barb, I love the tv celebrations, too. I love it when they play the military anthems. We are retired Air Force and I get a tear in my eye and sometimes stand up when the song is played.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wsv_aO9y7hY

emoticon Alison, it is definitely our gain in having you with us. I don't like the name of that other site, either! Welcome back to Spark. It is sure hard to beat with all the resources. Eager to hear what food plan you are doing. If you have exercised any this week and can guesstimate how much timewise, you can count your MILES for the WALK ACROSS AMERICA challenge this week. Give yourself 1 MILE for every 20 mins of exercise and post the total for the week in the WALK thread. I'll have our new destination up this w/e.

emoticon Nola, I am going to do better next week in the 5% challenge. I held on, but this is a turning point for me....turning forward, that is. I'm wondering where Lynn and Dorothy are as well. Missing them.

emoticon Oh my goodness, another 'translation' event!!! Nola, egg beaters are an egg substitute. Egg Beaters is the brand name. It is made of egg whites.

www.eggbeaters.com/

emoticon Karen, love your exercise links. I notice that when I am getting up from a chair or going up steps that I have trouble. Wonder if there is an exercise I could do to make my upper legs stronger? Of course, if I did your butt exercise and my butt got smaller, maybe that would help......wink.

emoticon Sue, good that you found out about the arthritis and now can focus on it with exercising. Guess I had a little esp in posting the food plan question. I'm not the only one who is regrouping. Love it. I've got your back, teamie. Enjoy your w/e. emoticon

emoticon Hopefully Nicole is resting up after her concert. Eager to hear about it. I know that Tricia is neck deep in family fun.

How are our Windy and Wendy doing?

emoticon To answer the question: What is your food plan?

I tend to eat low carb. I find it is the easiest when eating out. Lately, I'm thinking that I eat too much meat and want to change that. Sugar and carbs are my major downfall. I have been battling the Sugar Monster lately.

The ideal plan for me would be to eat intuitively: Eat ONLY when I am hungry, and STOP eating when satisfied. Sounds so simple. For me, I have to say NO SUGAR. My plan is to make healthy food choices of mostly vegs and fruits, not as much meat, more fish.

That's the food part, but just as important is doing away with my nighttime eating. It is a major drawback in my progress.

I do track my food sometimes, and when I do, I am the most successful. Spark offers a wonderful tracking resource. Time for me to visit it again.

More to follow personally about what I am going to do about my unstable situation.....lol

I'll check in later and off now to seek out that blog that Lois did.

There is also an ironing board in my future,
Lady Carol emoticon

Sue: BOO on the arthritis, but absolutely DO those back exercises. I have back problems (the ol' Arthur as well), and the exercises really to help. Getting my core strong, and my thighs (besides weight loss) has really helped as well. Some days if I don't get my activity in I feel like I'll rust in place, so built-in reminder system to just do it!

Glad your DS will be getting his cast off. That's progress for sure.

Have a good visit your Army son and his fiancé.

As for that romantic weekend, all I can say is ENJOY! emoticon

Hey Alison nice to meet you and glad that you have decided to join us.

Finally had my Dr's visit so I now have arthritis in my lower back too along with a small portion of my nerve being pinched. Best thing to do right now is back exercises, swimming and to lose these 30 pounds. He said that should make a big improvement and hopefully that will avoid having to have surgery at some point. Stationary bike riding is good but not a road bike as that is too hard on your back.

He gave me a sheet of exercises to do every day and that should bring relieve within a month. Not to over do it with walking either as that aggravates the nerve and blood vessels. So the pain in the side of my knee is due to the back issues so that will hopefully clear up.

Luckily we live near the lake and the town now gives out free resident parking tickets so we can park down by the lake and use one of the beaches. So will try that next week, not sure how warm the lake will be yet though.

Totally motivated to get the pounds off now so I can get more mobile yet and have less pain.

Cooler here today. Mike got his cast off and is now in a brace, he went to Toronto for the weekend to visit his girlfriend and start looking for a new apartment. So he should be back to work in another week.

By the time he leaves our other son Matt and his fiance will be here from Quebec City. He's the army one! They come for a week and we won't see them at Christmas as they are headed to Texas to visit her dad and sisters. So we will have a busy summer. In August my husband's cousin and her kids are coming for a visit. In September a friend from Australia, who I used to work with, and had the sense to go back to a warmer climate is coming for a visit, so will meet up with him at some point.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Planning on enjoying a romantic weekend with just me and hubby and will allow myself one glass of red wine.

Take care!

Sue, Ontario
