Thanks for the nitrate info. I am on phase 2 right now and its hard because I could have salad dressing with Oil, and on this diet I can't. Also eating 30 minutes after I get up has been a problem...it's hard to keep it down. If this keeps up I will be forced to break that rule. Ever since I was a kid I can't eat until I have been up for at least a couple of hours, it literally makes me ill. I have my no caffeine, no sugar headache which is to me a good sign the 'd.i.e.t' is working.

NMWERNER...I found nitrate meat in my shoprite under the lables Applegate and Healthy One in the deli section. Also, Oscar Meyer Selects has turkey bacon that is nitrate free. Phase 2 is rough for me. I'm on maintenance right now but when I need a boost I complete one week of the diet and each time phase 2 hits hard for me.

I was on a crazy diet that was basically phase 2 every day!!! I was on this diet for 2 months so I am so used to it and I am sure it won't bother me at all when I begin on Monday. I can't find nitrate free meat anywhere...frustrating!

Phase 2 is tough, I'm just glad it lasts only 2 days. I am not a fan of egg white omelets but I will eat the whites of boiled eggs, so my go-to P2 breakfast is 3 hard-boiled egg whites and veggie sticks like cucumber and, carrot, and cherry tomatoes. For one breakfast this week I had a 4 oz turkey patty with vegetables.
Smoothies just don't stay with me long enough so I don't like them for breakfast.
I usually also have boiled egg whites for snacks too and just keep reminding myself that I can be bored with my food for 48 hours-Phase 3 is coming!

I bought organic wild rice. I've never used boil-in-bag.

Sorry to be a pain but another question: does the rice like the brown rice and wild rice have to be a certain kind? I mean can you use the boil in a bag for the rice or just any boxed wild rice?

Thanks I found the portions on page 105. Now I am trying to plan out my week meal by meal. Its trickier than I thought so I'm glad I started early. Haha I had the water thing all wrong...I thought water bottles were 8oz but they are 16...4 bottles won't be hard at all!

The portion sizes are listed in the book and in some cases they vary from phase to phase. The water thing can be difficult at first. I'm two months in and find I am not running to the bathroom as often as I was at first.

Hi, I have some questions and I am not sure who to ask so I am hoping someone who knows will reply. I am not beginning until the 21st of April due to Easter and some obligations that will mess me up. My main question is how much? Normally on other 'diets' your given an amount to eat like 3 oz of protein or 1 cup or rice or oatmeal etc... Is there an amount with any of these phases? How much fruit for a snack or how many nuts? My second thing is the water and the eating every 3 to 4 hours. The eating part I think I can figure out but I will be drinking 8 bottles of water and as the saying goes ...what goes in comes out! I am a teacher without a bathroom in the room and I am not allowed to eat in front of the children. Do you have to drink the water throughout the day or can I stockpile a lot of it for the end of the day? My school day begins at 7:30 and goes until 4...long day I know. Thank you for any help you can provide or for a place to go to get these question answered.

Welcome Diane! You can do this. If you can get through week 1 you've got this thing nailed! I am close enough to go on maintenance and it is amazing how I don't miss breads and popcorn and sugar. I do indulge in popcorn or yogurt on rare occasions but not like I used to. Keep going - you've got this!

Hi, Diane, Welcome! I have found that this plan changes the way I see food- not as a guilty pleasure, but more as a partner in health. The first week is the hardest- stick with it and you will feel great and look even better!

Good morning all! I am new to this group and today is day 1 on FMD. I work in a 24/7 doggie ER and 1 of our girls has done this program and lost a tremendous amount of weight! She went to buy pants and is now a size 2!!! She feels good when doing this so since the majority of the receptionists are over weight we are all doing the program! It's nice to have the support! It will also be nice to have support here too. Looking forward to meeting everyone! Diane

We CAN do it!!

DustyPrairie, I was diagnosed with diabetes in the Fall, but am now pre-diabetic. My goal is to be no-diabetic. Exercise and diet really can make a difference.

I've got a long road ahead, but time will pass, anyway. Might as well be making my life better and of better quality.

I'm back as well. I tried to stay away. Then dh was diagnosed as a diabetic so I am back learning about it through SP articles and collecting recipes. Now to incorporate what I've learned for both eating plans.

I will be starting Week One, Day One on Monday. Like some of you, phase 2 is very hard for me. I have the books, the diet and the recipe book, uploaded. Over the weekend I'll make sure I have ingredients in the house for a successful week.

(((hugs to all of us))). We need them! emoticon

Hello, All!

I've been following the FMD since November and am down 46 pounds. I had lost weight before doing a low carb diet, but was stalled for 6 weeks. I love this eating program! I feel like I am healing my body and my relationship with food at the same time.

At first, Phase 2 was the most comfortable for me, as I had low-carbed dieted (and yo-yoed always ending up higher and higher) for years. Now, it is my least favorite, but I am OK with it. I have egg whites and spinach or asparagus in the am. While it's been cold, I make a "soup": organic non-gluten chicken broth, celery, onion powder, spinach or kale, and cubed, cooked chicken breast. It is very satisfying and warming. There are also many recipes in the cookbook, diet book, and on-line. Try them.

My family is shocked that I have given up caffeine, as I would start my day with 32 oz and skim milk and not eat anything else until 2 or 3. It took me two weeks to adjust, but now I don't miss it and drinking water gets me going!

In the beginning, I didn't do the cardio on Phase I, but now I do. I swim, and I walk. I'm thinking I need to step up my strength training on Phase 2, as I just lift some hand weights at home. Any ideas?

Stay with it, sometimes the scale lags results, but you will get results!

I found a recipe for Paleo Breakfast Bites that works perfectly for Phase 2. I intended to keep a few around for snacks but my son polished them off. You make them in a muffin tin and can fill them with all sorts of veggies. I made them with egg whites and I used cupcake liners to keep them from sticking to the pan. Here's a link to the recipe. www.bloglovin.com/frame?post=1888346887&gr

Hi all,

I start on Mon., Mar. 10th doing the 7 day metabolism makeover that Haylie started on Feb. 17th. I just bought her new Cookbook yesterday and tried the Wed. Phase 2 breakfast (Spinach and Mushroom Scramble) this morning and I loved it. I'm like most of you and have a hard time with Phase 2 but, I think having Haylie's Cookbook will help a lot.

Does anyone know if she is doing anymore of the 7 day metabolism makeover's? I think it would be great if she did a full 28 day one and just kelp it going so anyone could just jump it and start on any Monday. I know as a newbie it would have helped me a lot.

Hugs,
Charlie

Kathy,

I end up having a 3-4 egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms on both days. Otherwise breakfast would be tough for me. Veggies and protein just don't satiate me at all. These are the two worst days of the whole program for me. I recently added an "evil" veggie from another stage (1/2 sweet potato) to my stage 2 lunch and it helps plus...bonus...I am still losing.

Good luck on your journey!
Cheryl

TBARTON,

Phase 2 is tough. At least for me it is. This is my 3rd week and I am on day 1 of phase 2. Protein and limited veggie selection......ugh! It's only 2 days - I can do it! 3.5 pounds til I hit goal.

I CAN do it and so can you! Keep it up emoticon

Starting week 2 today. Last week was a bit of a struggle, especially because I stopped caffeine cold turkey. I'm motivated and optimistic this week. The headache is gone and as of Saturday I was down 8 pounds. I still dread Phase 2 but feel more organized this week and looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Oh dear, homemade bread!! run fast.....run far!! Brings back fond memories of growing up. My mother always had fresh bread from the oven on Wednesdays after school. Bread is one of my triggers. I can leave the candy bars and all that without blinking an eye, but BREAD...I've never met a loaf I didn't just love!! That's why I have all these extra rolls!

I have a new laptop and it's been hard getting used to it. I want to get the kindle account going for the book. I went to Target and they didn't have it. If I can't get it going tonight I'll hit a bookstore in town tomorrow.

Curves said I only lost 2 lbs. Not bad considering the way I ate over the weekend and some of the holiday time. I did lose 4", 2 from my waist. I was elated at that. I ate crazy yesterday knowing soon I'd have to be disciplined. I felt so bloated and uncomfortable. I haven't felt that way for awhile.

On to victory! I am so happy to be part of the team!

Hi, Wanda, I agree! I used to love Phase 2, because I was very used to low carb dieting my entire life. However, now on the second day, I find it challenging sometimes and I just say- tomorrow will be completely different! Even though this is a diet, it is also a lifestyle change. That is what I want- to lose this weight and keep it off by changing my relationship with food and also what I use for fuel. Food used to be my enemy- I used to wish I could just stop eating- the way alcoholics stop drinking- but now I realize that food is my friend and a can be medicine for my body.

The great thing is that no phase lasts more than 48 hours! I can do anything for 48 hours; even if I would give up if I had to do it for weeks.

Hi, Dusty Prairie!

Yes, I have found this program to be very doable. The whole key is planning and making sure that you have the foods you need - the snack stash. And the water! Good news is that if you find a phase to be challenging, it is only for a few days. You will never be hungry!

Today is day 1, Phase 1, 3rd round for me. I am down 20 pounds, 10 pounds each 28 day cycle. I need to lose 175 more, so I am in for long haul. My sister lost 9 pounds and has kept it off for two months.

Good luck and I look forward to chatting with you along the way.

I just got to this team yesterday. I think, from what I've read on the net, that this is very do-able. I'll be here often for support, and I'm here for you, too!

Just a few days left of the year. On Tues morning I'll get a weigh and measure at Curves. That will give me some numbers to get started with. I still have between 20 and 25 lbs to lose.

Keep pushing No-Mas, no matter what happens, good or bad, time passes and you chose whether to get through it getting healthier or getting less healthy. Every time you make a good choice, even under stress, you get a little stronger. That makes you better able to deal with the stress.

I hope you are able to have some great family time during the holidays! Be strong!

Oh, my dear friend, your message touched my heart and I am sending you what strength I have. I am older than you, probably not wiser but old enough to understand that if you do take a big breath, keep calm and carry on as the expression goes. Things will change. We always hope for the better but things will change. You have the news about your husband, well at least you now know the enemy. Fight, fight for yourself and your family. One of the ways to do this is to take care of yourself, take some time alone, breath, your health is most important, do not stress eat, plan what to have in the house so you can get some comfort food but just healthy food. You need your strength from your food, no for dieting, just for you to stay healthy. I have fought a mild depression all my life and I let that rob me of my strength and good times. What I needed and maybe you too,is just to take some extra time and care of myself. God bless you, I wish I had some better words for you. You are loved by a stranger, who will never know you, only your heart. You have lots of friends, lean on them, it's ok.

Good Morning,
I hope you are all well. I just wanted to send a note. We got some bad news today about my husband's health condition. Honestly, between the health issues, our finances (which are suffering pretty badly at the moment), and our overall mental state. I can tell you losing weight is just going to have to take a backseat this year. I am going to do what I can to keep exercising, and eat well. But I can't focus. I hate to disappear and not say anything. So I will be back, eventually.

Pray for us, that next year brings some better times for us.
Thank you for all of your support.

All these great ideas for handling the plan for the holidays. I think I will just set Thursday aside to eat off the plan (dressing) and then start Phase III for Friday again. Hopefully it will just slow the loss down rather than give me a weight gain. I just know that one thing I am not going to do is to feel "GUILTY". That's a dead end street!

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving!!

No-Mas, I'm sorry. I am counting backwards from 28. Today is day 23. I did it completely in May and lost about 25 lbs total. I maintained through July then in August I had some tough times. Overall I only gained 12lbs from August-October. Which, honestly is ok. I was a wreck and had days where I ate anything I could get my hands on to cope. But I'm back at it. I'm following the plan, mostly. (I do compromise a little bit. I would rather do that and lose a little slower, than fall off the plan. I know that's where my brain is now, so it's what I need to do.) And I'm exercising a lot. Which I had nearly completely dropped off. I'm feeling much better. I'm looking forward to my scale day on Thursday morning. I know it will be down some. That's always a good feeling.

I am skipping Thanksgiving day as for the plan. I am going to get up in the morning and run a 5K. But then I'm going to have dinner and enjoy it. Then I'll start off on P1 on Friday. That's how I'm handling the holidays. I feel good about it. I will be full-on, on the days I can, and just go with it on the days I have events. Even if I just maintain, that's good enough for me now. It will put me in a good place to give it a strong go in January, when I can focus much better.

Good luck this week!

You finished 28 days!! That's excellent, RapidMom! Please let me know how you make out with not counting "off plan" days.

I am starting Week 4 tomorrow, with day 25 being on Thanksgiving. Trying to decide between 3 options: (1) stay on plan Phase 2. (2) switch phases around as I have seen on FMD website (3) go off and don't count the day.

I am leaning towards option (1) because I do believe it is science, and if I believe that I should follow the phases. I'm afraid to go off because I don't want to gain weight nor do I want to start up those sugar cravings again.

I have lost 8 pounds on FMD and 25 altogether since September. However, I have 188 pounds to go, so I can't afford pit stops. I do believe my metabolism is healing, Thank God. I was stuck at the same weight for two weeks until I started FMD. So, I am very grateful to be past that "set point" (which seemed to be the only weight I could get down to for the past few years, try as I might) and want to continue for another round.

Good Morning!
Well today is day 27 on the countdown. I've decided that in order to make my 28 day goal over the holidays, to be realistic I'm just counting down 28 days. I'll skip Thanksgiving day, but then between now and then I also have a kid birthday, some dinner parties with friends etc. So to be sure that I really get it done, I'm going to try to do my best every day, but if ends up being a not-on-plan day, then I just won't count that day and I won't go off plan until I make it to 28.

I'm finally excited about working on things again. I actually have a period of time where I have some control over my world. So I started yesterday. I got some serious exercise in, and had a pretty good eating day.

I'm pretty happy to be here with you guys. It's just nice to know you are here when I come back around. Nice to be here.

I agree- eating out was a huge contributor to my weight gain. I don't really cook, but I am trying to start packing meals in a cooler to take with me as I am on the road a lot. I particularly focus on "snack stashes". That helps.

I was getting a little discouraged because at the start of Week 3, I was only down 3 pounds. Then I lost 4 in the past 2 days! I was re-reading the book and saw that slow weight loss in the beginning is typical for those who have been low-carbing it as a lifestyle. Pretty interesting stuff.

It took me two weeks to feel OK without caffeine, but I am there now. Not ready to say that I will stay away from it forever, but for now... :-)

eating out.... that was my demise.... or most of it. Hectic schedules with 4 kids we would run through the drive thru on the way to school, after school, before catching a bus to some school deal - I use to think I was doing good because at least I was feeding them!!! emoticon Then after kids started moving out, DH would call and say you want to go out for dinner? Thank goodness my kids have no weight issues, and I share my info with them so hopefully they will never have an issue with it. Learn from past mistakes. I regret that I didnt learn enough from my mom, she was thin and in shape but died too young for me to learn....

Anyways.................... dont mean to be a bummer. Was just stating that in order for me to stay on track and meet my goals, eating out on a regular bases HAD to GO!!! Along with sweet tea emoticon But I feel so much better, I don't even miss it. Special occasions now and then is one thing, but I just can't have that stuff on a regular bases.

Oh, I'd love a massage today! Phase 2 today and I guess I can say I've really enjoyed it! I've had trouble getting back on the band wagon over that last two months. I've come to the conclusion that I just have to put my foot down about eating out so much. I love it because I don't have to cook, but sometimes it's hard to just stick to what I need to have.

My weight ticker is all messed up again so I have to figure that all out. I am not used to this new format yet.

Lots of new faces!!! Good to see!!

No-Mas, how does the turkey jerky taste?

Starting week 2. Adjusting my days so that Phase 1 is on Saturday and Sunday as that is when I do my heavy exercising with my hubby!

Down 6.5 pounds. Woo hoo! Feeling great! Enjoying the food and experiencing less cravings. Not a fan, yet of phase 2 food but love the results on the scale.
