It's grand reading of y'all's successes.

The doc gave me permission to resume the plan. Yesterday I started all over again. A caffeine withdrawal headache woke me up this morning. I finally gave in and drank 1/4 cup of coffee. It's still there, just not so bad.

Glad to be here because you all are energetic and supportive. emoticon

I am in the middle of a month second only to December in its difficulty for me, diet-wise. My birthday, dh's birthday, our anniversary, family reunion, and...homemade fried okra from my in-laws' garden. :) I also have a 4-day training trip for school.

So...I am not going to try to do a clean 28 days until the first student day of school on August 11.

Until then, though, when I am home and not celebrating, I am going to follow the phases to become familiar with them and to help prevent any weight gain.

I bought the kindle book and am reading it now. Hoping for a soft start next week. I can do a whole week before birthday/anniversary/trip week.

Great news that you had a good week and was able to watch your eating. If you use the same planning for your Disney trip you will be good. Remember don't get down on yourself if you have to eat off plan. Getting upset messes up your metabolism. Just do your best and keep trying.

Well I just got back from NYC for a week long writing conference for work. I'll be honest I was so scared I would ruin all my hard work so I planned ahead. I just ate the eggs and fruit for breakfast at the hotel. I brought 5 packs of tuna, peppers, a cucumber and carrots and packed my lunch every day for the conference. At night I went out to eat but tried to sub fries for a salad and had chicken, a steak sandwich, a burger etc... I did good!!!! I didn't gain any weight at all. I also worked out at night and ran the stairs as much as I could...nine flights every night!!!! Now comes the tough one....Disney World vacation for 9 days!!! Heaven and Hayley help me!

My husband and I started FMD March 2013. We had one day that we took a friend shopping and so we had pizza. There was a weekly thing and also we had eating out some with our church. We set up that our P3 day would fall on the day we went shopping. Plus when we eat out at church we could pick a healthier meal where possible. We still lost weight. My husband read an article that when you are on a diet that having a "off diet" day or pig out day will keep your body from thinking you are on a diet. Of course that is mainly more for restricted diets

We went on Maintenance January 2014.

The ticker is setup from your spark page. When you enter your weight each time and save it then it will update your ticker. on some of my posts after I updated the ticker on my spark page and made a post I had a edit ticker by the ticker so I could fix it if I did not like it.

The ticker link to change is toward the bottom of your spark page.

I think your body has caught-on to what you're doing with this plan, so I would switch things up a little to restart weight loss. If it were me, I would stick to the big rules, no grains, no dairy, etc, but would change things up. Maybe alternate phase 1 days with phase 2 days, or have a larger meal here and there. I had a big lunch on Sunday and skipped the afternoon snack and still lost some weight. Now I'm off plan, still following the main rules but eating whichever type of day I feel like at the time. If I go back on plan at some point I want it to be something by body is not anticipating so it works again. That's just my opinion, I don't know what has worked for others or what Haylie suggests in the book for dealing with a stall. Hang in there.

I love phase 1 and wonder if I cut the carbs to just dinner would this work as a maint plan. I have a hard time finding healthy fats. Also I wonder if I make one day like Saturday not a free for all but a day where I can eat spelt pretzels or some of the healthier fun foods. Just wondering. I am on week 9 and have been stalled at 12 pounds loss. I need to lose 6 more pounds to be happy and I can't seem to do it following the 28 day cycle...frustrating!

Sounds like you are both doing well with this. Gaining only 2 and then maintaining is excellent, MD. Sorry you're having to start over, but it's great that you know this plan works for you, KS. I like eating low carb, switched to this plan because I had been stalled out for some time and I am down 5 pounds in the 26 days, so really happy about that. Also I'm thrilled to not have a fear of carbs now anymore. I think I ate fruit about 3x a year when I was low carb. Just have to figure out what schedule I want to use going forward. I'll stick with the frequent meals, but I think this plan is way too fat-phobic. I'll probably keep phase 1 as it is, but phase 2 is going to be having some fat added and phase 3 has to change too - just not sure exactly how yet.

I had my Endo tell me to eat more carbs each meal and all I did was gain 11 pounds. Now I have to start all over losing the 11 pounds. I found the plan good for the last year it took me 9 months to loose the 30+ pounds I know it took much longer to gain it. My husband has the steel cut oats and will make a big batch and will mix different fruits and other item with it and make it taste just as good and better for us than the instant oatmeals.

I know how you feel Yknot! I gained 2 lbs right away but have kept it there for 3 weeks now just basically doing Phase 3. But I can see that it is too liberal with thecarbs/ fat for me to stay on. So I am tracking my food in the Nutrition Tracker just to see what the numbers are. Just curious.

I have a friend that is reading the book now and promised her I would do the 28 days with her. Just wish Phase 2 were a little easier!

Week 4, last day of phase 2, hooray! I feel like I want to try something else for a while instead of going right into a week 5. I think 4 days a week fat-free is not working for me in the long term. I'm going to have to think a about this.

Yupp - the steel cut oatmeal and fruit is wonderful. I'm in agreement that this plan (I hesitate to call this a diet) is fantastic, because it tell us what we need to eat and gives us plenty to eat and it's really the way we should have been eating all along. emoticon

I really love the way I'm no longer obsessing about food at all anymore on this plan. I'm honestly starting to feel like I now know what a "normal" eater feels like. I used to find it funny when my naturally thin friends would leave 5 or 6 bites of food uneaten on their plates, like oh what, you can't manage that much more food? But now I do that routinely, may wash 6 strawberries and only end up wanting 3 of them, so only eat 3. It's a wonderful feeling.

Grace, the only things I can think of for helping you to eat breakfast is to drink a glass of water first - some people think that helps. The other thing is to switch your breakfast with your morning snack, having the snack first and then waiting until 3 hours later to have the breakfast foods. Haylie says it's okay to do this, but not to switch around any other meals. It may also help to really review the food lists for each phase. I found that I had skimmed over a lot of things when I first read the lists, just targeting the things I already like and frequently purchase. Sitting down with the list and telling myself I need to pick more of a variety of options has helped me tremendously, especially with phase 2. Good luck, I hope you are able to feel better about eating in the morning soon.

Got off for a few weeks with stomach issues and crazy schedule. Starting over - but still not too good about eating right away in the morning. That's always been something I don't do easily, since childhood. Any ideas or suggestions?

I personally think you are in a plateau and need to shake it up. Rather than extend Ph2, why not do one day each and see what happens? Also, Haylie says in her book that Phase 3 actually sheds the fat from Ph2. So extending Ph2 wouldn't really benefit in my mind. Plus you are doing 4 days of no-fat (Ph1 & 2) so your body may think you are starving it.

I am doing Mainenance right now so I don't go into a plateau. I have gained 2 lbs from my lowest weight but maintaining. Will resume in a week or two. Keep us posted!

I am on week 6. I initially lost 12 pounds on the 28 days. I have 8 more pounds to lose to be at my goal. I did not change a thing and I have gained 2 pounds. Any ideas as to why? I have now tried extending phase 2 one more day but it has not helped. Phase 2 is really hard and often leaves me hungry...no amount of veggies help so I'm not sure if its REAL hunger or actually a WANT of something else. Any ideas?

I made sure I have at phase appropriate snack that I can carry with me and eat when I feel the low sugar (metabolism burn) symptoms. I have inner ear problems and I have learned to take care when I get up and move around. The dizzyness might be more to do with your Blood pressure issues than low blood issues. From the sounds of your information this is an ongoing situtation and I hope that you are having a doctor follow your medical issues.

Thanks for the information, Trisha - good to know it's not just me. I am sticking with the plan and I do eat just what's on the list for each phase. Hopefully next week will be better as my body acclimates. I can make it from my desk to other places in the office, and then back to my desk before I'm too dizzy to stand anymore. But I'm afraid something's going to happen where I have to stay and talk to someone, and then will have no choice but to sit down quickly wherever I am. Ugh. I ran out of blood glucose test strips, need to get more. My waking levels are generally between 70 and 84, and postprandial it's rare that I go over 100. I haven't tested since starting this plan, so not sure how high it's going with the fruit and grain days. Thank you again for replying!!

I had what I thought were Hypoglemic symptoms. Just after starting the FMD diet. What I found out was it was the Metabolism burn that everyone talks about. What I did was eat more of the unlimited foods and make sure I left my hunger feeling just a little bit. When I first had the symptoms I kept eating to stop the hunger and I did not lose weight. When I ate the required amount of food and ate until my hunger was satisfied I started losing. I Monitored my Blood sugers just to be sure it was the burn not low blood sugar. My Blood sugars would remain in the 90-100 range so I was able to rule out low blood sugar. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Salt would not be a good idea on this plan. You need to eat the foods on the list for the phase you are in. If you need the food list so you can print it our and also I have the food planner on excel so you can edit it and print it out.

I'm having some serious problems with dizzyness (lightheadedness where my vision starts to fade out). I have low blood pressure and sometimes low blood sugar, so I'm used to this happening sometimes when I stand up. BUT on this eating plan it's happening all the time on phase 1 and phase 2. I've tried eating salt, since maybe it's a lack of salty foods, but other than cutting out dairy and sulfates, I was eating these same foods before I started this plan. I looked on Haylie's site and saw someone else had the same problem, but there was no answer posted. If the symptoms subside on phase 3, I'm going to have to seriously consider whether having 4 days of non-fat foods is what's throwing me off, and make some tweaks to my plan. Anyone else have this?

I don't have one right off the top of my head, but check out the FMD Support Group on Facebook. They are a closed group and you have to request to join, but boy do they have a lot of recipes and good ideas! It only takes a day to get approved and then ask the question. You will get some really good responses. I'm curious to see what they come up with myself!

Good luck!

Does anyone have a GOOD recipe for an appetizer I can take to a party that I too can partake of? A dip or salsa perhaps? The ones in the cook book sound icky.

NMWERNER I wonder if you make some of the snacks and keep them in your purse, desk or pocket and when you have a break between classes or take a quick bathroom break for a snack break if that will help. The order of the meals and snacks can be switched, like have a breakfast snack lunch snack snack dinner pattern if you need then have your meal when you get the time. I have had to do that as I work 2 days a week in the afternoon and I go in about 1130 until 5pm so I take a couple snacks with me and then I can have dinner when I get done.

I teach 2nd grade and it is really hard to get the timing in for eating because we are not permitted to eat in front of the kids. My day starts at 7:45 and my lunch is at 10:45. That timing works out but I am here till 4:00 and some days my breaks just aren't there. I may have a meeting or something or the timing is just off sooooo I get hungry. Today I feel as though I am eating my own insides!!!! I'm still losing but I wonder if I'd lose more if I stuck to the specific hours of eating,

My sleep hasn't improved. I do get spurts of energy but other times I'm tired like you say. I really think it takes one whole cycle just to master the complexities of this diet. I've screwed up quite a bit but get better each week. Probably by the 2nd cycle, you will feel the full affect of a working metabolism and the benefits of the healthier foods.

It's quite challenging. Sometimes I think I'm just going to quit at the end of the 28 days. But then I look at the healthy way I'm eating and cooking and I think it really is worth the extra effort to stick with it long enough that it becomes a way of life.

I would love to hear from someone who has been on it for 5-6 months!

XOXOXO

Happy to say I lost 5lbs the first week of FMD! I know it gets harder from here, but I'm shooting for at least 10lbs lost in the first 28 days. My goal is to lose 20lbs. At least I've got the kick-start I was looking for. I have been slowly moving up on the scale this past year and wasn't making much progress in getting back into the 160's. I hope to get more comfortable with the Phases so that they become second nature.

I normally have my book with me, too. I always have it in my bag for work... and take it out at home to use there and today I forgot to put it back in my bag! I feel kinda lost without it.

I have broken a few rules as well and also still lost. I was consistently forgetting which fruits were on phase 3 and eating apples and oranges and strawberries.... I'm better at remembering now. I have also skipped the protein and veggie part of the phase 3 breakfasts and eaten a whole serving of oatmeal with fruit instead. I am not a fan of the egg white omelets but love the oatmeal and fruit. I have been eating within the half hour of getting up... I thought I'd have a problem with that, but I'm used to it now.

Yep, Easter got me, too. I've almost recouped from that weekend. :)

I've broken a few rules and still lost. I did put on a few because of Easter but I plan to get them right back off again. I don't keep to the timed eating...I eat about an hour after waking because 30 mins it wayyyy to soon. I do keep to the same number of meals/snacks per day but the timing is off. You will do great.

Thanks for the nitrate info. I am on phase 2 right now and its hard because I could have salad dressing with Oil, and on this diet I can't. Also eating 30 minutes after I get up has been a problem...it's hard to keep it down. If this keeps up I will be forced to break that rule. Ever since I was a kid I can't eat until I have been up for at least a couple of hours, it literally makes me ill. I have my no caffeine, no sugar headache which is to me a good sign the 'd.i.e.t' is working.

NMWERNER...I found nitrate meat in my shoprite under the lables Applegate and Healthy One in the deli section. Also, Oscar Meyer Selects has turkey bacon that is nitrate free. Phase 2 is rough for me. I'm on maintenance right now but when I need a boost I complete one week of the diet and each time phase 2 hits hard for me.

I was on a crazy diet that was basically phase 2 every day!!! I was on this diet for 2 months so I am so used to it and I am sure it won't bother me at all when I begin on Monday. I can't find nitrate free meat anywhere...frustrating!

Phase 2 is tough, I'm just glad it lasts only 2 days. I am not a fan of egg white omelets but I will eat the whites of boiled eggs, so my go-to P2 breakfast is 3 hard-boiled egg whites and veggie sticks like cucumber and, carrot, and cherry tomatoes. For one breakfast this week I had a 4 oz turkey patty with vegetables.
Smoothies just don't stay with me long enough so I don't like them for breakfast.
I usually also have boiled egg whites for snacks too and just keep reminding myself that I can be bored with my food for 48 hours-Phase 3 is coming!

Sorry to be a pain but another question: does the rice like the brown rice and wild rice have to be a certain kind? I mean can you use the boil in a bag for the rice or just any boxed wild rice?

Thanks I found the portions on page 105. Now I am trying to plan out my week meal by meal. Its trickier than I thought so I'm glad I started early. Haha I had the water thing all wrong...I thought water bottles were 8oz but they are 16...4 bottles won't be hard at all!

The portion sizes are listed in the book and in some cases they vary from phase to phase. The water thing can be difficult at first. I'm two months in and find I am not running to the bathroom as often as I was at first.

Hi, I have some questions and I am not sure who to ask so I am hoping someone who knows will reply. I am not beginning until the 21st of April due to Easter and some obligations that will mess me up. My main question is how much? Normally on other 'diets' your given an amount to eat like 3 oz of protein or 1 cup or rice or oatmeal etc... Is there an amount with any of these phases? How much fruit for a snack or how many nuts? My second thing is the water and the eating every 3 to 4 hours. The eating part I think I can figure out but I will be drinking 8 bottles of water and as the saying goes ...what goes in comes out! I am a teacher without a bathroom in the room and I am not allowed to eat in front of the children. Do you have to drink the water throughout the day or can I stockpile a lot of it for the end of the day? My school day begins at 7:30 and goes until 4...long day I know. Thank you for any help you can provide or for a place to go to get these question answered.

Welcome Diane! You can do this. If you can get through week 1 you've got this thing nailed! I am close enough to go on maintenance and it is amazing how I don't miss breads and popcorn and sugar. I do indulge in popcorn or yogurt on rare occasions but not like I used to. Keep going - you've got this!

Hi, Diane, Welcome! I have found that this plan changes the way I see food- not as a guilty pleasure, but more as a partner in health. The first week is the hardest- stick with it and you will feel great and look even better!

Good morning all! I am new to this group and today is day 1 on FMD. I work in a 24/7 doggie ER and 1 of our girls has done this program and lost a tremendous amount of weight! She went to buy pants and is now a size 2!!! She feels good when doing this so since the majority of the receptionists are over weight we are all doing the program! It's nice to have the support! It will also be nice to have support here too. Looking forward to meeting everyone! Diane

We CAN do it!!

DustyPrairie, I was diagnosed with diabetes in the Fall, but am now pre-diabetic. My goal is to be no-diabetic. Exercise and diet really can make a difference.

I've got a long road ahead, but time will pass, anyway. Might as well be making my life better and of better quality.

I'm back as well. I tried to stay away. Then dh was diagnosed as a diabetic so I am back learning about it through SP articles and collecting recipes. Now to incorporate what I've learned for both eating plans.

I will be starting Week One, Day One on Monday. Like some of you, phase 2 is very hard for me. I have the books, the diet and the recipe book, uploaded. Over the weekend I'll make sure I have ingredients in the house for a successful week.

(((hugs to all of us))). We need them! emoticon

Hello, All!

I've been following the FMD since November and am down 46 pounds. I had lost weight before doing a low carb diet, but was stalled for 6 weeks. I love this eating program! I feel like I am healing my body and my relationship with food at the same time.

At first, Phase 2 was the most comfortable for me, as I had low-carbed dieted (and yo-yoed always ending up higher and higher) for years. Now, it is my least favorite, but I am OK with it. I have egg whites and spinach or asparagus in the am. While it's been cold, I make a "soup": organic non-gluten chicken broth, celery, onion powder, spinach or kale, and cubed, cooked chicken breast. It is very satisfying and warming. There are also many recipes in the cookbook, diet book, and on-line. Try them.

My family is shocked that I have given up caffeine, as I would start my day with 32 oz and skim milk and not eat anything else until 2 or 3. It took me two weeks to adjust, but now I don't miss it and drinking water gets me going!

In the beginning, I didn't do the cardio on Phase I, but now I do. I swim, and I walk. I'm thinking I need to step up my strength training on Phase 2, as I just lift some hand weights at home. Any ideas?

Stay with it, sometimes the scale lags results, but you will get results!

Maggie

I found a recipe for Paleo Breakfast Bites that works perfectly for Phase 2. I intended to keep a few around for snacks but my son polished them off. You make them in a muffin tin and can fill them with all sorts of veggies. I made them with egg whites and I used cupcake liners to keep them from sticking to the pan. Here's a link to the recipe. www.bloglovin.com/frame?post=1888346

This is my third week and I have to say that Phase 2 is getting easier. Still totally over it by the end of day two but at least I don't dread it any more. :-)

Hi all,

I start on Mon., Mar. 10th doing the 7 day metabolism makeover that Haylie started on Feb. 17th. I just bought her new Cookbook yesterday and tried the Wed. Phase 2 breakfast (Spinach and Mushroom Scramble) this morning and I loved it. I'm like most of you and have a hard time with Phase 2 but, I think having Haylie's Cookbook will help a lot.

Does anyone know if she is doing anymore of the 7 day metabolism makeover's? I think it would be great if she did a full 28 day one and just kelp it going so anyone could just jump it and start on any Monday. I know as a newbie it would have helped me a lot.

Hugs,
Charlie

Kathy,

I end up having a 3-4 egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms on both days. Otherwise breakfast would be tough for me. Veggies and protein just don't satiate me at all. These are the two worst days of the whole program for me. I recently added an "evil" veggie from another stage (1/2 sweet potato) to my stage 2 lunch and it helps plus...bonus...I am still losing.

Good luck on your journey!
Cheryl

I do pretty well with every other stage except for 2 - I have problems eating meat and a veggie for breakfast! Can't hardly get it down.

I agree--phase 2 is tough but almost over. Looking forward to avocados tomorrow. I am on week 3 also.
