I like the first two options. Donating what you lose in weight means you won't be donating much very often. The fast diet is more of a plan with weight loss as a side effect, not something where you drop significant weight quickly.

You should really ask this question in the current team chatter thread ( www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=0x59904x543R>48381
). You'll get a lot more answers from fellow teammates there. This particular thread is more for suggestions about the team, such as ideas for new team goals, so most people don't check it.

Motivated by today's sermon, my husband and I decided to try something to make the Fast days easier -- focus on a positive for others. Our choices include:
Use money we saved on food on these days for a service project -- school kits, sewings kits, layettes, etc. for Lutheran World Relief.
Donate food items equivalent to the calories we aren't getting to the local Food Pantry.
or
Donate food items in weight equivalent to what we lose each week.

Right now we're leaning toward the first one.

Any other thoughts?

Ill chime in there too. I think it best to give up my Lite beer on fast day also. Gained back 2 lbs....not sure if this contributed but I don't think it helps either. And I need all the help I can get o Fast days. :) Hard to do in the summer though...I'll see how I do this week.

I started losing again when I gave up my beloved wine on fasting days.

I will join the no alcohol on fast days. I wasn't drinking on fast days but in the past two or three weeks I have had a night cap. (helps me to sleep) It has not been sitting too well on my empty stomach so I was thinking I should quit and just drink on feast days. I like my red wine with dinner and a night cap.

I was talking to someone that was doing this diet and wasn't loosing so tried eating just one meal a day every day. On fast days she eats less than 500 and on feast days she drinks fruit juice for breakfast and lunch and eats supper and a snack and has wine and a cocktail.

She has lost 12 lbs in one month since doing this. I think I may try it or at least just skip breakfast every day.

Haha. I already put up the no alcohol challenge before I even saw this. I noticed you talking about it on another thread, so I went ahead and made one.

Ok, a tiny bit complicated for me but let me just say that almost every single day since last June I have weighed 185.
I started IF on April 1st and moved to the 5:2 model on April 11th.
Now, almost every single day I weigh 180. emoticon
One day I weighed 179!!! emoticon
And I think I will get back down there to stay soon.
So, I'm posting it thusly:
4/1 185
4/7 and 4/14 182
4/21 179 !!!
4/28 181
5/1 180
5/5 181
5/12 (I only count my Sunday morning weigh-ins).

Thanks for doing this, Steph- I am inspired by the progress of others!

Stickied! Thanks for starting it. I was going to if you didn't by the end of today. I'm just so sick of seeing my username as the first on most of the threads.

All that post on it are much braver than myself, so good luck to you courageous souls.

And of course it would be totally optional.
btw- I have not shown a loss every week but would be encouraged to see others' progress.

I don't hate it, but I know that I wouldn't be posting in it. I could start one, but I'd have to put a disclaimer in it that it's not a requirement. I don't want people to feel pressured if being that publicly accountable isn't their thing. Should I sticky it in the progress forum? Or if you'd like, you can start one and I'll sticky it for you.

I'll throw this out there........you might hate it...as well as others might.

BUT.....Can we have a WEIGH IN PAGE???
And...it honestly doesn't' matter WHAT day of the week we weigh on....
And EVERYONE only has ONE post.....you go back to the original post and "EDIT" add the second weeks weigh in...etc

It would be a way to Verify if indeed over time....(a month or more)...the weight is coming off.

Like Mine would be:

4/10/13 216.4
4/17/13 216
4/24/13 215.6
5/1/13 214.4

Etc.

I can see I have lost 2 pounds in a few weeks....

Thanks Meadsbay. I saw that request and was unsure of how to answer it. We're a team for support while doing 5:2, not instructional.

Dweezel, even the official Fast Diet site won't give you a detailed step by step of how to follow the plan. We all do it slightly differently and have to find what works individually. I feel like I would be in the wrong to present a singular way of doing things. I'm doing 5:2 in my own way, but I'm by no means an expert and therefore can't tell what will be right for you.

I can't even give you recipes because I straight up don't use any. I know there are a few in the book, on the official website, and on other sites around the internet. I'm sorry if you feel those resources aren't helpful, but that's really the best I can do for you.

Dweezel- may I suggest you go to Dr. Mosley's website for a summary?
I think it's all there.

My suggestion is to have a link or page where I can see a summary of what to do and what to eat on fast days. The recipe thread has a few ideas, but I just need instructions. Thanks

Chat thread, coming right up.

I didn't even think of that. I suppose not being a very interested forum poster before now has something to do with it.
