Struggling to keep my appetite up in this heat wave. I need to keep reminding myself how detrimental it is to my health and weight loss to skip meals. UGH!

Did good today! Walked 3.46 miles an I FEEL GREAT! I have decided, if I didn't have to work to pay for life necessities, and if I didn't have to stop to change diapers etc., I would walk ALL the time. It's fun and not that hard and the time and distance just FLIES by! About to do some more exercises after the little one goes to bed, but that walk was really enjoyable!

No, that .2 lbs didn't do it for me today. After breakfast and lunch I began to just give up.. the stupid no sunshine and all day rain didn't help my mood one bit.. not to mention I am out of work when it is like this....but that mood only lasted until after dinner when I went over my calories and thought.."WTF did I just do that to myself for??? IDIOT!" About to work out... more than ever...

Hello all,
I have been absent for approximately a month due to family coming and going and I have to say that I am glad to be back. I have fallen off the wagon of sorts and have gain about 5 pounds since my last posting...not a very happy camper at all. Tomorrow is a new day and I am looking to get back on track. I look forward to starting this journey back up with you all and lets enjoy ride. See you guys on the net tomorrow am....

I have been in a snit for days.... Took vacation days hoping to do nothing but sit by the pool, bike ride, walk/run! It's been overcast and/or raining everyday so I'm actually headed into work rather than burning another day. In a positive note I have worked out everyday and caught up with some friends and family!

Conquering instead of crumbling!

MYKIDSRSWEET - Have you ever heard of or tried Chi Running? Google it!

Chi Running will improve your posture, core strength, and use gravity to make running easier. ChiRunning teaches you how to use your large core muscles to move you forward instead of overworking your leg muscles, greatly reducing fatigue and risk of injury.

I have done some research on it and went to a few clinics to learn about it. I never was much of a runner - but decided that I wanted to increase my exercise from a walk to a run. I have a past injury and didn't think I was going to be able to run. With ChiRunning I was successful and pain free.

I would like to get back to it again, but I lost all motivation over the winter. It is on my list of things to get back to! I just need to find my motivation (I have misplaced it).

Good morning...I have a nine hour drive back home alone with three kids in the car. Wish me luck that I don't get tempted by their junk travel food. Packed two protein bars, an apple, and blueberries. No exercise either since I have to pack up here before we go....life sometimes comes before changing my body I guess!

I like reading and responding to blogs too. They help me realize I am not alone and others at struggling. I have felt like I have done so well on vacation at my parents with the kiddos...and I have only lost half a pound. I think maybe it is because tracking is hard when you are not cooking your own food. I think I have done my best, but I need a little more control in he oil and butter department?

I've had the best luck connecting with others via my blog. Other bloggers make comments - your read their blogs and make comments and before you know it you are in multiple conversations.
I don't do nearly as well in the forums/message boards/ teams.
Just my experience so far :)

MYKIDSRSWEET - congrats on your exercise! I need to find/make the time to incorporate more exercise. I play on 2 ball teams (one mixed team, one womens team), but other than that, without an actual schedule, I don't make the time. When I walked everyday I enjoyed the time and felt great, but once I let it slip from my routine, I struggle to get it back.

I aplaude your will power at your favorite restaurant. That must have been tough. Good for you!

Good evening, I am new to posting here too, but part of our class. I lost a lot of weight my first couple weeks, but have been a little stuck the last week and a half. I am really hoping to see something tomorrow, I walked six miles and ran one mile today and I ate steamed shrimp on vacation at my favorite seafood place instead of the fried shrimp basket...well...I ate one of my daughters fried shrimp, but I tracked it...yes...I added one sixth of a serving of six fried shrimp, guess what...it had as many calories as my eight peel and eat steamed shrimp. Wishing yu all luck! And...happy with myself for skipping the fries all together,l.the fries there are SO good and in the past I would have eaten mine and polished off the rest of my three kids fries too!

Hi ANGE14 - I have been reading and following a few different teams and wanting to step in and take part on the discussion as well. I am a shy person and normally don't step out of my comfort zone. But here goes! I am going to jump in a take part as best as I can as well.

Your post has given me the nudge I was looking for or needing.

I am not sure that what I need is help to stay motivated on my weight loss journey - but I KNOW that I need help maintaining my weight loss once I hit my goal.

I weighed in at 183 lbs this week, two pounds less than last week, and one pound away from my weight goal. Yippee! Haven't been down to this weight in about a year. Fighting the 51 year-old bulge.

Berly, if you read this, I hope you're having fun in Panama City!

Ange, good luck with achieving your goals!

Well, this seems like a good place to join in on discussions. I'm Angela and I'm trying to actually get involved here so I can stay motivated. I gained a lot of weight with two pregnancies in spite of my efforts. (I swear it's hereditary and age!) But I'm determined, not necessarily to be super thin, but to feel better and have more energy. So I'm upping my goals and joining in the discussions as best I can.

Today for my workout I did 3 spark videos and rode the bike 3 miles with my kids. If you guys didn't know the new team goal is to try spark videos. It is under Challenge #2.

WOW RTIMELSTON
you would not think that would happen. I only weigh myself weekly because your body flucuates anyway. Did you read Berley's post regarding the flucuations in body weight? I kind of did the same thing and ate low calorie items up until the time i ate out at Chili's, but my weekly weigh in was still good to me.

My only obstacle is ME!

Has anyone else noticed that it's harder to lose weight on a day you eat meat? The only thing I had yesterday was 1/2 cup of yogurt, 1/2 can of bean soup, and 6 chicken legs, and I gained 1.8 pounds. Same sort of thing happened when I ate a fillet of salmon one day.

Tim,
You are right :) I have lost a little weight since then & I have dropped inches. As for you out eating your friends-- I am capable of it, too. Especially when it comes to pizza. It is crazy how much I can take in. I am glad that you stop by even if it is once a week.

Berly,

I wish the ups and downs of losing weight were like the fluctuations of the stock market. When the stock market is down, it's a bummer, but there is that bright side: when it's down, you get to buy low. But I can't think of an analogous benefit that comes from eating little one day and waking up the next morning weighing more. Just, bummer! So, I feel for you. I think, though, that if we push through that disappointment and stay on course, eventually we'll break through down to that next pound lower.

Mike, Goodman,

I have no problem eating excessive calories when I'm "not looking", but when I start counting calories I get stingy. But I went out to eat with friends a couple times this weekend, and wound up losing only one pound this week.

I appreciate your efforts to interact with the posters here. Yeah, who wants to speak into a black hole? I'll have to get better at coming here daily and interacting instead of only on the weekly weigh-in. I used to be on a full-fledged discussion site, which is now defunct. There were all kinds of groups in which we discussed all sorts of topics and knew each other pretty well. So, when a few of us had our weekly weigh-in in the weight watchers group, it's not like we had ignored each other all week and were just there to state our own weight to our lone self. I like that, but, on the other hand, one of the reasons the site is now defunct is that antagonistic in-groups formed along political and religious lines, and the fighting got too much for the site owner to handle.

Hi guys, I want to start off by thanking Berly for doing the research on the flucuations in weight gain. I have always teetered between 5 pounds. But I did do my weekly weigh in and.......i am down 3 more pounds. So excited. This gave me encouragement to work out yesterday and we went out to eat and I did not go over my calories for the day. It took a little planning, but I did it.
Mike have an awesome time with your family, they won't be here long. Just jump back on the train after "vacation".ttyl

Mike,
That is what family is for :) eating and drinking. Drinking and eating. I hope you enjoy yourself and don't be to hard on yourself for easing up some. I know that when I go to Florida I probably will not stay in my calorie range. I plan on visiting Magaritaville numerous times. WE ALL DESERVE a little fun. Can't stick to the path 100% of the time if we did we all would get burnt out. I think if you jump right back on after DC you will be fine! I forgive you for dipping out lol :)!!!

Good Morning my Newbies...
Hey sorry I haven't been on for a couple of days....I believe it might be like this for a little bit, my wife's in-laws flew in on Saturday and when they are here it is go..go..go. So I really haven't been on the computer since Saturday as you can see. I am thinking that I should make this post a big confession post because since they have been here...I haven't worked out and I have eaten at Golden Corral and drank a good amount of beer, which I know is not helping my cause. So not unless I can sneak away for a quick workout it looks like I am taking a weeks vacation...lol..I mean the good thing is I will be doing ALOT of walking especially when we travel to DC later on this week. Hopefully with all the walking it will allow me to maintain my weight and not gain too much.
I will confess something though..I do miss ya talking to you guys throughout the day, not only does talking with you allow me the opportunity to be accountable it actually allows me to talk to people throughout my day while my boys and wife are at school. I just want to say thank you. Alright my friends I am off to wake my boys up and get them ready for school and then it's off to running with the in-laws...wish me luck because my wife couldn't get the first 3 days off that they are here so it's just me and them until she gets off work at 2:30. ...lol....I pray you have a wonderful Monday and I will be speaking with you guys when I get a chance.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Hi BERLYMCCORMICK - I'm glad you are keeping a good attitude about that jump in the scale. Thanks for sharing that info about weight fluctuations. There are some things in there that are probably new to everyone. I typically weigh just once a week (at the same time of day) to try to avoid being bothered by the regular ups and downs.

I hope you are doing well!

I weighed myself today...
I have jumped two pounds in one day. I already know that I haven't really gained two pounds in one day. I am trying to reassure myself. It isn't working too well. I feel extremely discouraged, but I did research just in case anyone else goes through this and is bumming like me.

Reasons your weight Fluctuates

You Ate a Little Too Much Sodium
Water is attracted to sodium like a magnet, so when you down a little more salt or sodium than usual, you may hang onto extra H20. Two cups of water (16 oz) weighs one pound, so a shift in fluid will have an immediate impact on your weight on the scale.

The Fix: Drink extra water — it may seem counterintuitive but it will help flush out the water you’re hanging onto. Potassium rich foods are also key, as they have a natural diuretic effect — great choices include a small banana, lima beans, cooked spinach, beats, nonfat yogurt, cantaloupe and honeydew melon.

You’re Constipated
Being “backed up” can cause you to weigh more until your body releases the waste it’s hanging onto. It’s not uncommon for women to experience constipation as part of PMS (lucky us!), but stress, too little sleep, and travel can also be triggers.

The Fix: Drink more water and eat foods rich in soluble fiber to get things moving, like oats, barley, figs, beans, chia and flax seeds and citrus fruits.

You’re Storing More Carbs
Your body has a huge capacity to store carbs — you can sock away at least 500 grams. To put that in perspective one slice of bread packs 15 grams of carbs. When you eat more carbohydrate than your body immediately needs, you'll store the leftovers in your liver and muscles, which will stay there until they're needed for fuel. And for every gram of glycogen you stockpile, you also put away about 3-4 grams of water, so essentially it's a double whammy when it comes to your weight.

The Fix: Cut back, but don’t cut out carbs, and focus on quality. Ditch refined, dense carbs like white breads, pasta and baked goods, and include a small amount of a whole grain at each meal, like steel cut oats, brown or wild rice or quinoa, and round out your meal with fresh veggies or fruit, lean protein, and a little plant-based fat. A great example: a small scoop of wild rice topped with a stir-fry made from a variety of veggies sautéed in sesame oil, along with shrimp or edamame.

Bottom line: it’s actually normal for your weight to ebb and flow, so if you see a slightly increase, don’t panic. To gain just one pound of actual body fat, you’d have to eat 3,500 more calories than you burn (think 500 excess calories every day for seven days straight — 500 is the amount in three handfuls of potato chips, or a slice of pecan pie, or one cup of premium ice cream). If your weight on the scale increases by one pound and you haven’t consumed an excess 3,500 calories, you haven’t actually gained a pound of body fat. So shift your focus away from the scale and toward how you look and feel. It’s very possible to see more muscle definition and even a reduction in inches when your weight in pounds hasn’t budged.

Today is a bad holiday!!
I didn't workout today. Fridays are fun Fridays at our house during the summer. If everyone sticks to their choirs and good attitudes they get rewarded with a fun day from MOM. :)
I took my kids and my nephews bowling & to McDonalds's. They also had ice cream. I did not over eat. I did not have fries. Yay me. :)
I would workout this afternoon, BUT :)))))))))
My wonderful fiancée has planned a date night for me because I posted it on facebook repeatedly that I haven't been on one for three months lol. Whatever it takes...

I am a little miffed though, BUT learned a good lesson. We were having a potluch breakfast today as work because it is National Doughnut Day. People were bringing in everything, donuts, waffles, cakes--which i avoided. we also brought in fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, low fat/cal egg sausage casserole, which I did divulge in. I kept my portions in check, but after adding it all up, it didn't turn out to be that good for me. Just too much of a good thing. After looking over what I ate, I did see what the high calorie items were and where to improve next time. emoticon

Hello Peeps, Happy Friday!! emoticon
I was really busy yesterday, couldn't talk. Probably shouldn't be on here at all during the day, but........ it keeps me focused. Mike glad to hear your class went in your direction. My step daughter had the same problems when she was in college.
Berley-inlaws can be difficult, lord knows I have had my run ins. Hang in there.
I did mangage to get a run/walk in last night even after a rough, long day. i was proud of myself for that. Keep the conversations going, it realy does help.
Congrats on your exercise sucess yesterday. emoticon

Good Morning my fellow Newbies,
Well here in beautiful Chesapeake, Va we are currently under a tropical storm warning and the way the news is presenting this thing you would think that this is the Storm of the Century. In fact the local news station has just said we are under "Storm Mode", (insert low baritone voice) whatever that means..I have no idea. So it should be interesting to see how this thing plays out today, I mean I love storms, thunder, lightening , and wind bring it on I say. Of course this will probably move my cardio workout from my normal outside jog/run to inside on the Apt. treadmill.
Update on the college class situation, the instructor did call me and teammate up and asked what happened and to my wonderful surprise my teammate told the professor that it was all his fault why we didn't get the assignment done. So that means that she gave me change my grade from an 81.2 to 100%. Nice way to end the class.
Well I am going to hop off of here for right now, I pray that you all have a blessed Friday and I look forward to reading about how each and everyone of you great Sparkers are doing today.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Wow what a day..I think after getting in the head with a 2X4 I just would have called it quits and headed to bed...LOL...I have noticed one thing with my boys, when I hurt myself it is the funniest thing that they have ever seen, of course it probably has to do with the reaction that I give BUT still a little compassion wouldn't hurt..
Well for what it's worth you seem like to me a very genuine, approachable and yes..nice..person. Speaking of In-Laws, mine are flying in tomorrow into Norfolk, Va and are going to be with us for about 10 days. I am very lucky, I actually get along really well with my In-Laws, of course it wasn't always like that let me tell you, but that is a story that will be held for another time...lol..
I am going to give you a woohoo on the 15 minute bike ride..that is great. I just love the feeling I get after a good workout. Of course this morning I can barely move my legs after the lower body workout yesterday but I know it's all for the cause my friend.

Well thank you Mrs. SHEENADEE for the vote of confidence but I must say that I do wish more people would be active on this board. I believe the more people respond the more we build a support network and the bigger the support network the more we can help each other.
