Hey all - Hope you had a good weekend!!!

Praise report - MARILYN LOOKS amazing. The last scan showed the cancer gone, no radiation needed. She is in recovery until she gets all her strength back....but wow she looked better.

On another note: Please keep praying for Micki....things aren't good. Doc told her that her stomach is shutting down again. She has had a fever for two days...and her port is bleeding. She should be back in the hospital...but so far she won't go back in.

Back to work today after a 3 day weekend. Spent the weekend in the art studio aside from usual house and yard work and church Sunday. Beautiful day here - sunny and supposed to get up to 80.

Well, here we are with the kids going back to school this morning. Please excuse me if I say I am so glad to have them out of the stores for awhile....They just seemed to had gotten so bored this summer and didn't know what the heck to do lately....

The sun is shining here and that is nice for everyone. We are going to go to Walmart now this morning and I bet it is going to be nice and quiet there!!! We need milk, fruit and yogurt. Of course other things too..

Ken & I agreed yesterday that we are going to leave the goodies at the store as is 70 days till we see the family dr and we both need to have our blood tests a few days before. More than likely on the 60th day or so.

We are now thinking of getting our flu shots too. I think last year we got them on Sept 1st so that I could always remember the date when we were asked if we had gotten them yet...

Joyce:
that is SO wonderful that Chance did so good on his "selling:" !! even after his expenses..

Peggy:
I agree with Joyce,, WHAT is wrong with our system?? the crazy medicare rules,,, if they figured out the cost of putting in a nursing home, compared to just getting a family the needed supplys,, DUH ?? I think WE can figure that one out...

Merri:
A Happy Birthday to your son !!! I am sure you all will be glad when he is back in the states for good.. such stress !!

Barb:
it sounds like you have one BIG farm with ALL you do... I remember when my dad got S.S. he goes,, wow they are sending me a check to do my daily work !! LOL my folks had a small farm in Oregon only 88 acres, he was a dairy farmer..

Linda:
Hope Adams new "business adventure" works out,, it is hard at first with ALL that goes into starting your own business, but once that FIRST gets done,, I am sure he will do fine..

I just talked with my DS's girlfriend , she was busy doing "dilly beans",, but I thought she said on the phone she was making" jelly beans:".. so I go,, that sure is ONE long like 7 day procedure.. she goes WHAT?? Adam is leaving this evening for home. He has clients he will see tomorrow. He is a speech teacher with a PHD in alternative communication. He has been working for Easter Seals but they are closing most of the clinics in New England and he is done effective today. He is opening his own clinical business but really worries about billing and having a steady dependable income. Many of his students will stay on with him and he has contracted with some schools and agencies. Insurance will be an issue. Watch and see his wife get pregnant in the gap. I have a new teen child coming to my classroom who is non-verbal. Want to get his advice but don't have parent release yet.

Peggy--understand that problem well. When my husband's mom was failing we had the same issue. She cried every day in the nursing home. When we discovered that the state was going to claim "ALL" her assets we took her home. Begged and borrowed some of the equipment (leased some) and hired our own staff to be with her 24 hours when we couldn't. There are some agency assisted programs out there. God blessed us with over a year of her being with us and until the last four weeks she was able to stay in her own home. We figured that we could spend her money on her better than the state! God sent us great people and it is a hard, hard job that we don't regret.

God bless you on the task! emoticon

Well got to go do more canning. Tired of pickles-enough now so Adam is taking a box of cukes for his wife to do. Made some sweet ones this morning and off to do blueberry sauce with soft blueberries in the fridge. We have a blueberry farm. Froze lots but saved some fresh to make a pie. A neighbor brought us a pie to thank us for the blueberries we gave him so mine sat there. I did make muffins and a cake or two. When the harvest is on we don't want to face them again at the supper table! LOL

Have a good Labor Day everyone.

Good Morning and Happy Labor Day!

Peggy, that's so wrong that they can't get financial assistance for the equipment! What is wrong with this system?

Barb, We only had dairy cattle on our farm, although the calves went for veal. We did have horses and rabbits, the kids' 4-H projects, and then we raised exotic waterfowl for awhile - swans, fancy ducks, etc. You're right about projects always taking longer than we expect. Oh how I remember the manure spreader! LOL Had an incident with one, our foster son was helping to clean the barn and for some reason had a neck scarf on that no one noticed. It got caught in the chain and pulled him up tight to the spreader and broke his jaw! Not fun!

Merri, I'm sure you wouldn't mind having DS back in the states!

Well, it's supposed to rain today, so not sure how long we'll be at the fair. Maybe if we hear Frank and his boys aren't coming out we won't go at all. Do have to go get Andy's scripts though. I can't believe I've been at the fair four days and the only fair food I've had is one ice cream cone - if that even qualifies as "fair food." LOL

Oh I wish it was memorial day too, where did the summer go? Seems like August just slipped by without notice. This weekend is Old Home days in Sherman, they do a parade and lots of activities and dinners for the weekend and today. I might wonder down and get a hot dog and go to the craft show for a while.

My Dad stopped yesterday and I loaded him up with Blueberries, three kinds of apples, some peaches, plums, tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, peppers, and of all things basil and parsley. He has never been much of a cook but is having to learn at 88 yo! He wanted to make tomatoes with basil and mozzarella, and I explained how to make parsleyed new potatoes. I was quite impressed that he tried biscuits the other day, they were kind of hard but I explained the don't handle the dough much thing and he did admit he kneaded them for too long and is going to try again. He asked me to write down my recipe and the recipe for potato soup. I am going to have to make it and take measurements since I just usually wing it!
Wow Annie that is quite a scare, low blood sugar can do a lot of damage when someone falls like that. Sounds like you kept your head and did the right thing though.

Joyce, congratulations to your GS on his sales, what a good job he did! too bad you didn't get to watch the steers be auctioned off though. I am picking up two calves today at noon for beef animals, I usually do one or two a year, I guess it is the way of a farm that animals go off to be meat, I do get attached to my girls, the ewes and cows but usually remain separated from the meat animals. They get names like pork chops, or t-bone to remind me that I don't get to keep them. I enjoy raising them and watching them and they are kind of pet like enjoying scratches and following me around but I always keep in mind they are not staying. The rabbits really have the cute factor over the big animals when they are babies but when they get big sometimes it is just a relief to get my barn space back when they all go to the freezer. It is a hard thing to explain, just part of life on a farm.

Spent yesterday working on the bed of the manure spreader, things just seem to take 10 times longer then you think. Just the two outside boards left to cut and fit then put the chain back on, maybe I can get that done today and get the manure spreader off my lawn!

I also need to can some green beans today and make the rest of the apple sauce, I make a big bunch because later when I have more time I will make some fruit leathers with applesauce as a base and different berries and fruits added.

My neighbor volunteered to help with the ducks so I think I will call him this morning and see if he can do it tomorrow and get the ducks taken care of and in the freezer. The plucker I built sure helps make that job much easier.

Guess it is time to get going for the morning and get chores done!

we're on our way to Bagel King. Hope it is open today but I didn't remember seeing any signs that it was closed.

I forgot to say Bob got home on Friday but I only spoke to Mary's daughter. I was giving Mary time to get into the routine.

Medicare wouldn't pay for the equipment they need at home. They would only pay for a nursing home.

Peggy, Chance had two steers there - one sold for $4,720, the other for $4,256 and his hog brought $1,096. The buyers are area businesses that can use that as a tax write off. He had a successful year. His Dad said that was over $5,000 profit on the animals.

Annie, I'm glad it brought back memories to you!

Today was an easier day. We went up later than the past few days. Listened to a band we like for a couple of hours, looked at some more of the exhibits, watched the fireman's water battle and had dinner at Jim and Brenda's camper.

Hadn't planned on going up tomorrow, but thinking we will for a few hours. Our former foster grandson might be back out with his two sons and we'd like to meet them. Won't stay the whole day though.

Wedding was great. Got to see people that I had not seen in a while. I had a moment of sadness, when watching the video of pictures they had made, realizing that those toddlers we were watching are now the balding, graying, 40+ yr old adults sitting in the room. Ha, when did that happen!!! It is good having my son here for the visit. I miss having his wife with him but she had prior plans. He will be leaving tomorrow. He and BJ were best friends from birth. Glad he could come. My other son was in the wedding. Oh, and the bride's attendants were all from her sorority KAK and so was I and the groom's mom. (The girls stay active and mentor the college age girls.) They took pictures of us as a group and we sat and talked about our pledge days. Too funny, I ran home and got the sash that we had worn (vintage 1970) signed by all our girls so they could put in the room on campus. They were excited!!! (My nephew lives in my parent's house and found a footlocker of my stuff that was in the attic.)

No plans for today.

Today my hips are telling me that I was sitting crouched under the hedge for too long yesterday. They are both screaming.

I just finished riding the bike and I really wanted to stop after 10 minutes but I made it to 30.

How much did Chance's steer go for? Who usually buys them at the auction?

You're sure keeping busy now aren't you Gwyn?

Merri, that is farm life, for sure. My first DH had a dairy farm and I used to get so upset that the little calves were sold at such young ages as veal calves. The purpose of the calves was to bring the cow to milk for the year - but it just made me so sad! With the 4-H kids they spend so much time with their animals, trimming, brushing, handling, etc. to get ready for fair, it just seems it would be so hard - but they do it!

We're heading back up to the fair - thinking the last day for us. We'll catch the exhibits we haven't seen yet, hear a band or two and call it a wrap. Labor Day is crazy there and I don't really see anything on the schedule of events that would draw us back up there.

Yesterday one of the foster kids came out for the day. Actually he was my daughter Amy's foster son and his twin brother was our foster son. He hadn't been out to the fair in nineteen years, so that was fun! Great catching up with him!

Have a great day everyone!

Joyce, I asked my DH how they got through that too with caring for these animals for maybe years and than sell them too. He said they had to do that all of the time on the farm too with the cows, pigs and chickens....He said that was just the way they were raised and even tho they did get attached to some of them..

Too bad that you didn't get to see Chance. Sometimes people are just so cold to things that we feel are so important to us...

Well, here we are the last day of Aug. Some say the last day of summer. This has been a very different summer with us never once reaching 90 here. It is ok with my DH & I tho. His breathing has been so much better with the cooler summer. The dr has even cut his meds in half.

Annie, I so agree with Joyce, that had to be one scary time for both of you. I am always so afraid of that happening to my DH too. There have been a few mornings when he seemed to be tippy LOL and sure enough when we checked his blood sugar it was low....We always have a little bottle of orange juice in the fridge in case....

Oh Annie, what a scare for you! I agree, next time call 911 no matter what he says! I'm sure glad you got him to the reunion for awhile, even though it was hard on some....and you are SO right, it's all in God's hands. Bless you Annie and I hope it's a better day for you today! Hugs.

Peggy, thought of Jerry again today at the fair, watching our County Fair Band play!

Was SO disappointed, the big thing on Saturday at the fair is watching Chance's livestock auction. We saw his swine auctioned and there were over 100 after his, then goats and sheep before his market beef were to be auctioned. My daughter Brenda asked his father to PLEASE let us know when the steer part began so we could be sure to be there and he said he would. I went through the auction barn several times to see where they were in the proceedings. Then I txt my daughter Amy later and she said they were about half way through the sheep. Next thing I get is a phone call that we missed his beef sale! His father couldn't be bothered to text Brenda even though he said he would - said that Amy should have done it or we all should have just sat there for three hours waiting for the beef in nearly 90 degree weather in a hot barn. Thank you very much Ryan! GRRRRR I was SO upset that we missed it! But nothing can be done about it, so we'll just know better next year - of course assuming we are blessed to be there next year, which maybe his father should have thought about! His "girlfriend" was there around that time and I'm sure that played a BIG role in why he wouldn't text, but it was for Chance and that should have come first!

so today I took him to his family reunion,, he really didn't want to go,, but I told him I thought it was very important.. we only went for 3 hrs.. took lots of pictures.. our DD cried most of the time.. but I told her,, Kim we are ALL in God's hands,, our DS and his GF are coming here tomorrow .. this was hard on the kids,, but again, we are in God's daily care..

heading to bed,,, really tired, but a nice family reunion,, DH got to see cousins/family,, very nice..

Jerry and I were out for 90 minutes this morning in the garden. We have a big hedge on either side of our yard and basket grass is growing under there along with lots of other things. some of our old plants that we took out were growing thru the hedge too. The first time I reached under the hedge I got soaked -- my pants were wet and so was my shirt. By the time I was done my hair was soaking wet. It was good to be pulling that basket grass because it was taking over the grass in that area too.

Hi gals....

Linda, sounds like you had a good visit with your son!

Gwyn, enjoy the family visitors! I know what you mean about the "grocery list" - LOL

Merri, when I was young I did 4-H sewing projects. My one daughter and son showed horses, the other daughter showed rabbits. I honestly don't know how my GS does the "market" hog and steer - I couldn't raise an animal for a year and then have to sell them for meat! emoticon But they do make big money on them.

Peggy, I forgot to mention we went in to the Grange building at fair and the "Master Gardeners" have displays this year all set to nursery rhyme themes and they were so cute! Naturally when I see "Master Gardener" - I think of your DH!

Wow finally some nights off I am really getting too old to put up with all that politics at work! I am trying to plan out what to do in the next 7 days. There is an Old Home Days celebration in town, may pop down there to the craft show or what ever is else is going on, there are different dinners each night and a lobster feed on sunday.
Linda- are you in or near eastport? My dad used to be town manager there back a few years ago. Pretty country from here to there with the grand lakes.
Joyce, sounds like fun at the fair, We used to put animals and stuff in the fair, I always look back on that fondly.
Guess I should get up and at em! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Joyce, Oh boy, it sounds like you are having so much fun at the fair and watching Chance do so well. I am not sure if any of our four grandkids who live on a farm have actually put any of their pets in the fair like that.

I know they have done different things with food. My DD won second place with some of her veggies and a pie...

I love country and western music too. We haven't been to a fair in a long time...

I hope the weather stays good for the weekend for you guys too...

emoticon Well it is really Saturday but I have been up talking with my son. His good high school friend is getting married tomorrow (or today) and he has come from out of state to attend. He got here about supper time but went off with his brother to "celebrate" with the groom. Ha, brings back old times. Don't worry as much as I did when teens with wives to designate drive. Stayed up to wait for him and made pickles.

emoticon I had an awesome day! The weather was windy and perfect temp. Did some weeding, cleaning, sewing etc. My neighbor and I walk every day and we walked twice it was so nice. Got the spare room in the basement spiffy, hung out the blankets to give them air. I was glad to not have to go to school today. Three days this week, four next week, then the five days begin. I liked that idea! Kinda slowly work into it!

Joyce, the fair sound like fun! I haven't been to one in years. We always went with the boys.

Barb, I too am in Maine. Way up the coast in the Eastern corner.

emoticon Off to bed.

Annie, don't you apologize for saying how you felt. Glad it turned out better after all, but you were feeling frustrated at the time and if sharing that helped - it's all good!

Peggy, Adin really is learning a lot at a young age. That's awesome!

Steph, glad Micki is doing better!

Linda, that's a lot of years of teaching, but at least you are doing it for the right reason! I have a lot of admiration for special ed teachers. I was a foster parent for years and most of my kids required special ed classes.

Hi Liz - I've never been in Mississippi but have seen the Mississippi River twice. :-)

Loooong day at the fair, but fun.

Chance showed his smaller steer in showmanship and took second place. I think he might have won the class but he wasn't too great with the questions the judge asked. LOL With his larger steer he took first place in his division and then made the "Great Eight" out of nearly 50 market steers! That puts him in the top eight for the auction tomorrow night which usually means making a better price.

We caught part of the Chardon Polka Band, heard another band that was pretty good and then this evening there was a free concert by Chris Higbee, an up and coming country singer and he does such a great, high energy show. We went through the Natural History area and through most of the display barns like fine arts, school display, Grange, floral hall, agriculture hall, etc. We've been in some of the animal barns, but not all - catch the rest another day.

We don't have to be there early tomorrow. The cloggers that Austin's ex girlfriend performs with will be there tomorrow and another band we really like. Then the livestock auction in the evening.

Steph, Adin doesn't live on a farm.

The farm is the job that his father had as a second job after he got out of high school and needed money. He worked at it for years and now he worked his way up to Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds in the school district where he started as a janitor.

Now he works on the farm just for fun. He doesn't get paid anymore but the owner of the farm gives them lots of things. He pays Adin for the work he does. Adin loves working on the farm with his Dad.

Yesterday he baled hay into square bales. They usually do round ones. When he first started telling me about driving the tractor on the farm I thought he meant a lawn mower. Then he sent me a picture and it is a big farm tractor.

TGIF everyone! And have a great holiday weekend!

Linda- Thank you for being such a good teacher. I'm sure your students love you.

Annie - the Quad Cities is on the Mississippi river - Davenport, Bettendorf in Iowa, and Rock Island and Moline on the Illinois side. I was born and raised on the western side of the state in LeMars, near Sioux City, though. I'm actually from LeClaire, Iowa - home of American Pickers if that helps you place LeClaire. Yes, we are acquainted with Mike Wolfe and no-he isn't anything special, LOL.

We learned lots more things that Adin does when we spent the two weeks with Adin.

They let him move his fathers truck around the driveway and one day he hit his mothers car. Nothing serious but he thought he was going to be in big trouble but he wasn't.

He drives the farm tractors and trucks when he works on the farm with his father.

He sure gets to do a lot of things for a 10 year old.

Annie, I am so sorry to read about your DH and his blood problems. Boy, we sure learn fast how to use all of these new words and procedures don't we? It sounds very complicated and scary too...

Peggy, I think there is nothing so cool as Skype. That is our way of staying in touch with our DS over in Afghanistan too. That sounds like one big fish for anyone to catch and be excited about...Good job for a little guy....I bet his dad was one proud guy too..

emoticon Lord what a long week it has been!!!!! School began again. Workshops for three days, kids next Tuesday. I'm a teacher and I felt like I was stuck in the groundhog day movie! New kids to review records, room to put together, and the dreaded schedule to do. I have two really great aides but they are a little more type A than me and really want to have boards done fancy and everything nailed down. I am in special ed and take the go-with-the-flow method! Ran in the room last weekend to take down the "have a good summer" letters and slapped up posters and some welcome back flags on the empty boards Made sure the chairs were down. Few kids really come in the first week and those who do need to play a game or two and talk. Fat file of quick activities always ready. Aides re-arranged the room and redid the boards while I was in meetings. Ah, to have that energy. However, I ended up staying until 8 last night finishing putting away, throwing away, and filing things they had dislodged. Hubby worked a long day too and we decided to eat out, ended up at the golden arches drive through because we were both too tired to get out of the car. -LOL -

First day the Superintendent introduced the new people in each of his NINE schools and then asked all who had been in education for 2 years to stand, then 5 years, 10, 15, 20.......40 only two of us standing. Oh, Dear why am I still here?? 42 years for me 44 for the other guy. I don't feel old...much. Shocked my director!

Well I got the answer of why I am still here!!! As I typed this and surfed the site with the news in the background, I was "shocked" at the story of a teacher who had tweeted about feeling like killing students she disliked. No joke!!! I backed up the TV to see if I heard it right. emoticon She's going to be allowed to go back to the classroom! This shows how social media has changed the dynamics of the young people. I'm going back because I love my kids. They are mine for a few years and even with frustrations I still enjoy watching them grow and change and learn knowing I have a part in that!!! Our principal this year discussed teacher clothing choice (no short shorts or ripped jeans, scoop neck shirts look different when you been over a desk, etc.) and computer warnings (Kids don't need to know about drinking parties from the teachers). Seems simple logic. Times have changed. However, glad the suits, dresses, and heels have been replaced by Tevas and comfortable pants. Sorry this is so long!!!

Adin was really excited on SYPE last night. He and his father were fishing in the pond across the street and he caught 15 bass and his father caught 5. He caught the biggest fish of his life he said. It was about 16 inches and 2 pounds. They throw them all back.
It was great watching him describe it.

Liz, always so good to see you posting!

Peggy, hope you had a nice visit with Jayne.

Had a nice first day at fair. It was actually pretty relaxing. Chance didn't place in his hog showmanship class but he took first place in his market hog class, so we were really excited for him. It was comical, the judge was explaining his reasons for placing the top three and said the young man in the orange and white shirt took first. Chance as oblivious! They came up and gave him the blue ribbon and he said "who, ME?" LOL He only heard "white shirt" - totally missed the orange part of it. We all got a good laugh out of that!

Aiyden was a little trooper - loves his new wagon. Only problem was in the petting zoo - a lamb stuck its head through the fence near him and let out a really loud bleat and scared the daylights out of him. He may never want to see a sheep again! Whew!

Have to be back up there at 9 tomorrow to watch Chance show his two steers. Be later tomorrow night - there's a singer we want to catch in the evening....Chris Higbee....who does an awesome show.

Be on in the morning if I have time, if not - tomorrow night

Hi All--

Work day for me-- and I'm getting a titanium post put into my jaw to get ready for a new tooth (I lost one about a month ago biting into a tortilla of all things. I've had this procedure done once before and don't remember it being a big deal. It's wonderful what they can do for us these days.)

Hope Chance's pig does well at the fair today!

Morning Everyone! Welcome Newbies!

I'm Lizzie from NJ! I have been spotty posting lately. I had a stroke last Oct that affected my left leg and hand so it's hard to type. Enough excuses - I'll try to do better.

I am currently in the process of cleaning out my house = what a job!. I hope to move this fall closer to DD and to DH who is in a nursing home near her.

I used to can a lot too. Tomatoes and string beans from my garden and bushels of peaches, pears and corn from a nearby orchard. There's nothing like homemade canned peaches in January! The orchard closed and is now condos, the kids got married and moved away, and canning just got to be too much work. I still miss it though! My vegetable garden is now a rose garden, although this year it's a mess!

Good morning everyone. It's WW's this morning.

This afternoon we go shopping at Publix.

I have lots of basil so I am going to make pesto. I just got a recipe from a friend that you make with slivered almonds,

Annie, that's a good point - at "our age" it's hard enough to keep track of things, isn't it? If everyone would put the name they like to be called in their "signature" it would make life easier for us old folks. LOL (if you go to your spark page, click "edit" and scroll down on the right hand side, you see a block for signature and you can put in your preferred name, a quote, or anything else you like.) emoticon

DH and I went to WM and did some shopping. We bought a radio flyer wagon for Aiyden at fair and one of those back pack harnesses for toddlers. He's so quick and I know some people think "harnesses" are awful for kids, but I'd rather do that than have him get away from us in a big crowd like that!

I made pasta salad, macaroni salad and tuna salad to take up to the fairgrounds tomorrow. Our daughter Brenda camps up there and we all gather at her campsite for meals. Chance shows his hog at 9 AM so we'll be out early tomorrow. If I don't get on in the morning, I'll check in tomorrow night.

Weigh in day today - only down .2 lbs. That's "Point 2" or two-tenths. I'll take it. At least I didn't gain.

Every Wednesday my daughter's FIL has a get together. He calls it "Happy Hour" -- they don't usually serve drinks, though. Just a potluck for all the relatives and friends and neighbors in his area. So tonight I'm taking an apple crisp (We have a small orchard and the apples are just getting ready to use). They are grilling hamburgers. It will be good to see my daughter, her husband and my gd (who is 13).

A 3 day weekend coming up SPers!!!

Hi everyone,
I just got back from the Y. I was there over 2 hours today. I love it!! I haven't done much for the past 3 weeks so, I'm thrilled to be back to going regularly.
I'm off to have lunch with that friend I told you about that my sil and bil and I had dinner with a couple of weeks ago. We all just talked like we'd seen each other last week. The last time we all this couple was in the early 70's.
I ordered new window coverings last night. I'm so happy with them. They'll be installed in a couple of weeks. I've wanted something different for a long time and saw these at a friends house.
Tomorrow I'm going to babysit with my great-great niece for a while. Her mommy has to be at work at 6:30 am and her daddy gets home from work around noon or so. I'm glad I'm able to help them out. Plus it'll be fun!!
Welcome to our new member. Jump right in.
Everyone have a great day.

No break in etiquette at all - just jump right in! Our tiller blew up last year and we just didn't feel like putting the money into a new one. And frankly, at 73 years of age, the big garden and canning got to be a bit much! LOL But I still miss it.......a little. emoticon

newbie here --- jhopper (Joyce - from Ohio ) -- why are you not canning etc? and missing your garden.... (hope i'm not breaking nettiquette by jumping into what seems like a group of old pals chatting...)

We just did some pickles and jams..... hoping to make sauerkraut much later. Love hearing from folks who've been doing these things a long time :) just wanted to say hello as am trying to find my way around here..... tis a tad overwhelming with all the info & chats. Hello to all! any tips appreciated!

Love the idea of canning parties ~ we have had occasional cherry jam making parties, sauerkraut making parties... and some friends had an elderberry wine making gathering... learned a lot, had some laughs together -- great idea. Even if you can't garden, you still 'can can' ;)

I always had a HUGE garden here and did lots of canning. Nothing better than fresh tomatoes with a meal. I did grow some cucumbers in a tractor tire in the back yard. Planted two tomato plants in flower boxes, but that didn't work out. Only got one tomato off each. :-( Our roto tiller blew up last year and we just didn't see the sense in buying a new one. Then the farmer's market I thought I'd be getting fresh produce from closed. Booo!!!

Peggy, enjoy your breakfast.

Have Aiyden for at least a few hours today while Andrea works at the salon, they she will take him up to the campsite at the fair where they're camping till Monday. I need to get out to the store at some point today, been saying that all week. LOL

Morning, We got some most needed rain here yesterday. Today is going to be very dry and in the low 70's... my kind of weather too...

We are still looking thorough our things to donate to our church the first weekend in Sept. Oh boy, could I ever fill up those bags so fast. I am starting to think that if I haven't worn some of these clothes in a few years, why not let someone else wear them...

Barb, I have mentioned on one of the Sparks sites before about the gel that we use on our aches and pains...It is bought around here at Farm & Fleet and it is called: Absorbine Veterinary Liniment GEL and called tropical analgesic.

It is a nice big bottle and runs around $8-$10

As you have guessed LOL it is used for horses...It is a green gel and smells like spearmint and feels so cool when you put some on....It helped me knee within hours..My DH too....

If not in your area, I bet you could even find it online...

I thought you would like me talking about your horses and maybe you already know of this product too....

Got back home late last night from my brothers, what a long drive! I stopped a lot on the way back, went to LL Bean for a while, that place is bigger every time I go there. I did pick up a rain jacket, in a kind of dark red not my usual color but I like it! Stopped in a couple of rest areas to eat and walk around to get un-stiffened. The worst is getting home and not wanting to unload the car! I picked up some groceries while in Freeport. My message machine had 3 calls from the credit union, they are stopping my debit card and issuing a new one because of the Shaws leak and wanted to wait until I got home, must have noticed the activity from the wrong state.
I had to catch up this morning on picking stuff, tomatoes, cukes, and tons of green-beans. The zucchini got carried away while I was gone, there was 3-5 gallon pails of huge ones but the cows loved them, even the sheep started munching on them. Downstairs in the barn one of the bantams came out with 8 babies, sigh, don't need more bantams! The donkey and horse heard me drive in last night and started being mouthy, so I had to go say hi before falling in bed.
It is nice to get away but not so nice to be behind when you get back, have to work the next three nights and now I have blueberries to pick, a basket of tomatoes and about 15 lbs of green-beans to do something with, for now I put them all in a cooler with ice.
Have to catch up on reading to see what everyone else is up too, have a good night everyone!

Been busy at work -- hope everyone is doing well.

Jeannine- I didn't see your post about the colonscopy - But I'm having my 4th 9/23 - The procedure is easy - no worries - the prep is getting easier each time- they keep coming up with better prep procedures. But I don't recommend planning on going to work during the prep phase, and they drug you up pretty good for the procedure so I always take that whole day off.

I did get my exercise in and have kept my eating within the guidelines. .. . But my weight is stuck. Just have to be patient.

Joyce, Coach Jen took her name and post off of the 50 site as soon as she got my message/post. I do think she is there once again tho under a new name. There is never a picture of any kind and never a Sparks page....This is what the last person has posted:

Hi everyone I am Gabriella from Montana. I will be turning 60 this year so hope to continue maintaining. I have never been overweight and hope to just maintain 135 # at 5'6".

Jeanine, I would not worry too much about the colonoscopy. I have had 3 so far (since this cancer runs in my family). Yes, the prep is bad, but in the US, you are usually cleared out within 3 hours. I remember going out with friends about 3 hours after the initial dose. I worked the day of prep - just started it later in the day. You will be fine.

Enjoy reading everyone's "stories"!

We just don't post/write like that at all....Only one person welcomed her on the site..

Did you finish your book Peggy?

Steph, that's great you heard from your brother and it would be SO neat for you to see him in November!

Trudy, we have storms due tonight. It was pretty hot and humid today. Andy closed our pool yesterday. It had a leaky hose and it's supposed to cool back down this weekend so figured no sense in putting any money into it now.

Annie - that's wonderful that you had such a nice treat! You surely deserve it! Glad it's been good visiting with DB! I never had any brothers - always felt cheated.

Merri, did that gal ever respond to your son's post? That was really priceless!

My brother called me Sat - whoo hoo..i got to talk to him. Nothing new going on. He might make a trip out here in Nov? Not sure yet....and I'm suppose to go visit him in Jan or Feb...depends on when my boss will be back in the States.

My mom is in Paris..she posted FB photos of her and her bestie!!! Glad they made it safe!!!
