What a great pic Merri.

We're in Columbia SC and had a pretty good day of driving we had to get off an exit to avoid all 3 lanes closed on 95 but we were able to get around it.

Now we're relaxing in the hotel room. Jerry is on the floor doing his exercises.

QOTD I was with my sister in the audience of Regis and Kathy Lee. We got to sit right on the stage at the side of them. That was a long time ago.

Hi ALL !!

qotd:
I was on a Portland show , like Jeopardy,, in the audience.. My BFF was one of the 3 people,, and since there were only 6 of us in the audience,, each break I had to move by someone else,, take on/off my jacket to make it look like there was a lot of people watching the game show..I am in every "shot".. I have an old VHS of the show....BOY was I younger, and thinner too...LOL

I mowed our lawn yesterday inbetween the wet/misty stuff.. I used push mower, then DH put the bagger on the rider,, and I finished,, boy was THAT easier, but I had to dump the heavy containers of grass,, oh well, got a good work out....

Trudy:
sad for you for family to move to Portland OR,, but GREAT for me,, I will have to make the treck in and say HI and give you a (( hug)) !! DH usually has lots of appointments at the VA hospital so I am in/out of Portland all the time....

Hello everyone!

Boy, it looks like Texas is really getting hammered with rain! We have rain coming in later and looks like a wet weekend, but nothing like they're getting!

Andy's brother and his wife are coming this afternoon for awhile. He's going to take our old computers. He likes to tinker with them and they'll be out of our way! Have enough leftovers from yesterday I don't have to worry about cooking. :-)

My friend had to cancel her birthday lunch with us tomorrow, so that frees up another day for us. She's going on vacation Thursday and we'll reschedule when she gets back. By then we should be moved.....if all goes well.

QOTD: I was on a show in Cleveland that was like "American Bandstand" when I was in high school and a few years ago I did an interview for a news channel concerning the guy who murdered my foster son.

Good morning,
QOTD: Once when I was a kid I was on local tv. The Sheriff Sid show! Once not too long ago when the local tv station filmed a segment on the group I volunteer for.
I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day. My daughter, dil and grandson were here from Sat. afternoon until Monday afternoon. That's the last time I'll see them before their move to Portland, OR. We have made tentative plans for me to go out there in Jan. We sure did have a nice weekend.
Back to the Y today. I also have the last volunteer spot until the fall. Hard to believe the school year is coming to a close.
It's suppose to rain here most of the week. I hope it stops long enough for me to get the yard mowed.
Everyone have a great week.

QOTD: Have you ever been on TV?

I have been on TV twice now. I was on with our school choir when I was in high school. Than I was on with Richard Simmons in 1981 in Milwaukee, WI

We have the sun out here yet, but they are calling for rain once again today....

Not much going on here today. Just have to make a check out for the cable bill and the utility bill too...

The concert was great!!! It brought a lot of tears to my eyes. There was a pilot from WWII who is the only one left who flew some sort of missions but he was 95 years old and he had a lot of flying time.

See you all later I'm going and checking my list to make sure everything is packed.

Awwww, I hope he feels better soon Annie. Boy, do I hear you on the liking quiet these days! I think that was the big selling point for me on the apartment!

Had brunch with Manasa and her family and what a pleasure it was to meet them! It always amazes me how we meet Spark friends and it's just like we've known each other for years! Time went too fast, but they have a long drive back home to VA.

I stopped at WM and got a few things I needed, then DD said "grab some BBQ stuff and we'll come over later and cook out. There goes MY quiet day! LOL

Austin went and bought a tree, a bush and some mulch - think I'll go out and help them clean out the flower beds. Tickles me he is taking such an interest in the yard.

Good Morning and Happy Memorial Day to all...... emoticon

Barb, I know, it will be mighty unusual if we do go by ourselves. Went to Nashville by ourselves the first time years ago and all DH kept saying was "Andrea would have loved this." Have a feeling this time it would be "Aiyden would have loved this" - LOL

Annie, you must be exhausted, especially after all the medical running you've had to do on top of it! How's DH feeling?

Peggy, enjoy your day! My daughter Amy was in a re-enactment at Century Village in Burton yesterday. Her son Chance was big in to that a few years ago, then he got interested in the fire department instead.

We're off to Bob Evans soon to meet a Spark friend for brunch. Manasa from Navy Ninjas is in Ohio to see a friend and her new baby so we arranged to meet on their way back home today.

QOTD: I like most country songs like "Cotton Eyed Joe" and enjoy doing the "Electric Slide".

Joyce, that is funny I can picture you sneaking out to the car to vacation without the kids! Hope you get to have a relaxing vacation for the two of you!

I am doing some grilled chicken, corn on the cob, and potato salad for supper tonight and bringing it up to my parents. Kind of stuck on what to make for desert, thinking of blond brownies, haven't done them for ages and ages!

I have never been much of a dancer at all. We did do some square dancing years ago. I loved doing that. But, not sure what songs we danced to tho...

It is still raining off and on here yet. It was really ok with us as it helped our flowers...

Not much going on here today. We are going to grill hamburgers and that is about it..Too wet to cut the grass yet today.

We dance at a place that offers various types of dancing such as Contra, folk dancing, Scandinavian Dance and the like -- so I don't know the names of the dances to any of the songs. When I hear a tune I just know the dance and do it. I tend to like Israeli and Balkan dancing the best, followed by Scandinavian dances

Beautiful day here - not thinking we'll do anything but clearing things out today.

Andy and I are thinking about going back to TN in September so we can see our cousin's husband. We haven't seen him since Nancy passed away. Also haven't seen one of the granddaughters and her two little ones since last year. We thought there was no way we could go again before the cabin in November for my birthday, but then I told Andy we COULD go in September by ourselves! (Novel idea, eh Peggy?") Andrea's baby would be a month old and she'd still be on maternity leave from the job, so she wouldn't need us to babysit. We'll see how things go. I have a hunch that by then a few days away by ourselves would sound really good. We should have enough reward points for the motel to stay free, Dollywood is free and we can see Dale and our granddaughters while we're there.

Just another quick drop in, it is so busy in the spring with fencing, gardening, cleaning up the yard. I am going to be repairing fences for weeks, it is quite good for upping the steps, been over 15 K and up to 19 K this week a day!

I am looking to adopt a mini donkey, still going through the appication process, hope it is all worth it lol, he is alfully cute, a spotted a double s, this is a picture of him:

QOTD what food reminds you of a grandparent? When I was little we always went up to Millinocket for a week to visit my grandparents, they were both Italian and had little english, one of the things my grandmother used to make was polenta. It is a northern Italian thing, a corn meal mush with spagetti sauce on it, it was put on a big board, spread out and the sauce on the top, you had to eat it from the outside because it was so hot, the board was in the center of the table and everyone ate from it. I remember that every time I make polenta.

QOTD I have never lived close to any place where a relative was burried, so that has never been a custom.

Last national park was acardia, the only one that is somewhat close to me!

QOTD: What was the last national park you visited?

I don't believe I have ever been to a national park. We have never traveled a lot. Mr Ken just isn't open for traveling at all...

So today, they are calling for sun this morning and rain later. So, we had better get our butts out there this morning and get the grass cut pronto...

No plans for us today...We worked out in the yard all yesterday afternoon getting things looking better from this last winter...

Glad you enjoyed the concert Peggy. Packing is in the air these days..... emoticon

Aiyden loved the Thomas the Train ride today. It's such a beautiful day here, it was perfect! They had a big model railroad train set up that totally fascinated him too! Brenda bought him some Thomas bath toys and a beach towel and we got him a Thomas child size umbrella. He's always trying to use our big ones, so figured he'd enjoy one of his own.

QOTD: I used to go to every grave in both my family and Andy's family, but had to cut back because it got too expensive. My daughter Brenda's 4 mile walk she does is almost always through the cemetery in Garrettsville and most of the "walk pictures" she takes are of flowers and trees in that cemetery.

Today Jim, Brenda, Andrea, Jimmy, Aiyden, Andy and I are going in to the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad to a "Thomas the Train" event. You get to ride on Thomas the Train and they have a bunch of activities set up for small children. We'll leave here around 12:30. I really don't have time to be away, but oh well...... LOL

This week is so crazy. The train ride today. Jim and Brenda want us to come to the campground to eat with them and their friends tomorrow (not sure we are), Monday we're meeting a Spark friend for brunch; Tuesday Andy's brother and his wife are coming here to pick up all my old computers and visit awhile (he likes to tinker with computers); Wednesday we're having lunch with my friend and former co-worker Kim for her birthday! Then around all that still be trying to pack and clean to be ready to move. YIKES!

QOTD: Do you decorate family graves for memorial day?

Our parents are buried over 350 miles from us here, so we don't get to go to their graves at this time of the year.

Yesterday tho, we went to the dollar store and got three balloons. One for my sister, my parents, and one for Ken's parents. We brought them down by the lake and let them go into the sky...I guess that was the best we could do....My sisters ashes are in CA....

Joyce, Our lilacs are just beautiful here right now. The nicest they have been in years...

We got all of flowers bought and planted yesterday. Wow, Ken just went nuts at Steins LOL...Of course he had to take sooo long finding the right tomato plant too....We got me a cherry tomato one...

I don't think I ever ate at my grandmother's. My aunt and her husband and 3 kids lived there plus my cousin and there were 7 of us in my family. We did have the summer birthday parties in her backyard but I don't even remember what food we had.

I did like her water because she boiled it and then poured it into bottles and kept it in the refrigerator. It always seemed like special water.

Trudy, my Dad was a good cook, he was a cook in the Army. He cooked more than Mom did, I think.

Merri, have fun shopping for your flowers. I need to hunt up my zinnia seeds. When my cousin died four or five years ago they handed out packets of zinnia seeds at the service. I planted them and every year in the fall I take the seeds off the plants to plant the following spring.

It was sad, when we got back from TN the lilacs were already done! Spring flowers just don't last long enough. Now the poppies and iris are starting to bloom and the peonies are budded.

Good morning,
I'm gearing up for a busy weekend. It's beautiful sunshine this morning. We're suppose to have 70's today and tomorrow and then it'll heat up to the 80's but, with rain.
I hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend.
QOTD: My grandmothers were all good cooks. I was fortunate enough to have 2 grandmothers
and 3 great grandmothers when I was born. However, my grandfather made the best fried potatoes!! He did a lot of cooking back in the time that men didn't cook much. He used an iron skillet to fry the potatoes and then covered them with black pepper. They were fabulous.
Joyce, did you tell your grandson you'll jump right on those flower beds????!!!!LOL!

We have no plans for the weekend. Ken & I are going to go today and get our flowers before everyone else does it tomorrow. As you guys know, I don't like crowds LOL

Good Morning!

Another grey, chilly day here - not sure what happened to spring! This weekend in TN it's going to be full sun and upper 80's every day, kinda glad we had the cloudier days, much more comfortable for all the walking we did!

My mind is in overdrive these days thinking of all the things I have to do to accomplish the move and still squeeze in all the activities that are coming up. I tried to fall back asleep this morning but my mind wouldn't be quiet - couldn't find the pause button. LOL

QOTD: I think the homemade bread my grandma used to make. Plus I had an aunt I stayed with a lot and I think of her every time I fry an egg. She always made them so they were crispy around the edge and we used to call them "lacy eggs".

QOTD #1 -- when did you first see ocean? well, since I was born in NY and lived in NJ for 14 years, I am assuming I 1st saw the ocean at a very tender age --- since we lived in New Jersey and would go to the Ocean on weekends during the summer I would think I saw the Atlantic for the first time at about 2 or 3 years old. I 1st saw the Pacific Ocean at 35.

QOTD #2 what food reminds you of a grandparent? only food I can think of is borscht -- my one grandmother always made the best borscht

Glad you're using the cane Peggy. That's gotta help until you can have the surgery.
Annie, have a good time with the company and I'm so glad you're making it a little easier on yourself food wise!! You'll probably enjoy the company more and no one will go away hungry!
Joyce, the move is here!! Yay!! I hope you're able to move on your timeline like you're planning to do! I know you'll like the apartment since you lived there at one time and it'll be a little easier to take care of! Not nearly the upkeep!
I cleaned the house this morning and then went out and worked in the yard for 2 1/2 hours.
The yard is looking good. A friend gave me 1/2 a flat of impatiens. So, I had to get them into the ground.
I'm going to go play bunco in a little bit. Annie, I hope you have fun and success playing bunco this morning!!

Yaaay for thinking of the cane Peggy and glad it's helping!

Annie, now THAT's the way to have a company weekend - make it easy on yourself.

Brenda sent me pics of the wall border they put in the kitchen and bathroom in our apt. I really like it. I think they're finishing it up today, so probably get a call tomorrow or Tuesday to go see it. Should get the keys next Friday. We're busy Saturday, but could start moving big stuff Sunday. Figure to leave our bed here and take the week to take boxes and tubs over and put things away, but come back here at night to sleep and then move the bed and whatever is left that following weekend. Lots less pressure that way and Austin said to take our time and make it easy on ourselves. So we will! LOL

We always live fairly close to some ocean, being on the east coast, I remember as a child we always traveled up to Boston then Millinocket Me going up route 1 to travel along the coast, guess I must have been very young because I always remember the ocean being around somewhere. I was in my 40's before I saw the pacific ocean, and same for the Gulf of mexico. I love the water and wish it wasn't so expensive to live clost to it!

Good morning everyone

I used my cane last night to help we walk into the bathroom when I got up and it really made a big difference. I used to launch myself from the bed to the dresser and then hold onto the sink to walk. Now why didn't I think to use a cane. I have a cane collection and I am happy that it is my right leg that needs stability because I have a great left handed cane.

I'm not in pain all of the time Only once in a while.

Good morning,
I've been MIA for a few days.
I went to Chicago last Friday for my dil's graduation from them MFA program at Columbia University. What a fun filled weekend. Busy, busy, busy!! We walked and climbed steps ALL weekend. When I went to get a pedicure yesterday the tech discovered that 3 of my toes had bruises under the nail!! Now that's a lot of walking. And my shoes weren't constrictive either..
I've been working in the yard and getting gifts for all of the things going on. A graduation get together on Friday night, a wedding Sat. afternoon, 60th birthday party on Sunday and baby shower on Wed.....whew!! One of my dil's called yesterday to see if she, my daughter and grandson could come down on Sat. for the weekend. This evening I'm going to play bunco for the first time since Jan.
I'm really looking forward to the weekend with my daughter and her family!! They are moving to the Portland, OR area. My dil has a new job as a principal in an alternative high school in Fairview, OR. Her new job starts on July 1, so, they're really scrambling to get ready to move across country, It's going to be so hard to say goodbye, but, I can fly out there without a lot of trouble. There is an airport only 45 min away from us that flies directly into Portland.
Peggy, I'm so sorry you have to have both knees replaced. What's the deal with waiting so long. Is that dr. the only one who does that type of knee surgery? It seems like a lot to ask of a person who's in pain.
Merri, so glad you had a good cataract surgery.
Joyce, great dr. visits for you and Andy!! So glad he could get off the blood thinners. They can really be a bear to get right.
QOTD: I first say the pacific ocean 2 weeks after I got married. I was 19 and had never been out of the mid west. I was so awe struck. I love the water/ocean to this day! I've since seen the Atlantic and the gulf of Mexico as well. Love them all.
Everyone have a great day.

What I will do when I reach my goal, guess I hadn't though about it, I did reach one goal, back a few months ago and decided to go ahead and lower my goal by 20 lbs, now I have just 13 lbs left to go. I guess I will revaluate at that point, and celebrate when I get to where I want!

Joyce, I am so happy for both you and Andy with your dr visits!!! And Andy off of blood thinners. GOOD job there Andy!!!!

That is one less thing for you two to think about with your big moving ordeal coming up soon....It is nice tho that you will be able to leave some of it there with your grandson moving in...That is such a great arrangement that you all have made....

Peggy, I too am so sorry to hear about your needed surgery on both knees. Could you just go to some pharmacy and get a knee brace for now? I know in my 17 yrs waiting for knee surgery, they sure had helped out with finding the right kind for me....The sleeve/brace will keep the swelling down for you...

Peggy, I'm sorry you need surgery and especially sorry it will take so long to get it done! Not fun when you're in pain like that!

Annie, sounds like you and I are in the same boat with the losing/gaining yo-yo. LOL Yes, I think this move will be a good thing when it's all said and done, but in the meantime - WHEW!

Our doctor visit went well. Andy is totally off blood thinners and no more blood work needed for that! WHEW! But, he was complaining about the pain he has from arthritis and asking about how much tylenol he could take and the dr. wrote a script for a more potent pain relief....only problem, it's a "controlled substance" so he had to sign papers saying he wouldn't take drugs, sell it to anyone, etc. LOL So he has to keep his appts at every 3 months and he can be called in for random urine testing to be sure he hasn't taken drugs. All because his pain tolerance is so low! Dang!

Everything was A-OK with my bloodwork and checkup and he's extended my visits back to every six months!

We're back from the Drs. and I need a total knee replacement on both knees.

the Dr. does a lateral surgery and his next available date to do it is March 10, 2016 and the second one on July 5th 2016.

I have to get a knee brace but I am waiting until I get back in July to get it since I am running out of time.

Morning All;

QOTD - Already have this planned out - I'm heading to Bermuda (my fav place) putting on my bathing suit and walking along the beach! I'm going to 'strut my stuff' and not feel fat & ugly! I was in Bermuda last September and wouldn't walk around without my coverup on - was too embarrassed. To get from my chair to the water I practically ran so no one would see me! I know - sound stupid, but that's how I felt. It was great being in the water - no one could see my body, I felt light and could enjoy myself.

Good Morning!!!

QOTD: I don't actually have a "goal weight" set in stone - it changes. I reach one and then go for another. I've lost around 40 pounds I think since I started with Spark, put a few back on and now am trying to get rid of those pesky things again. Gwyn, I love your idea!!!

Peggy, we're off to the doctor's this morning too, our regular checkups. I think I might have mentioned Andy got a call while we were on vacation telling him the doctor had gone over his charts and told him to stop taking the blood thinner, so we're curious to hear what he says about that. Not sure if we'll do Bob Evans today or not, so much to do here to get ready to move! Whew!

Where is Trudy? Haven't seen her here for awhile.

QOTD:

The first thing I am going to do when I reach my goal weight, is thank God for walking along with me when I thought this would never happen and nudged me when I thought it was a good idea to get into the sweets LOL

Well, I made it through my cataract surgery yesterday. The left eye will get done on June 9th...Not a bad surgery at all. The hardest thing was them trying to find a vein....

It now seems like I got the surgery eye has sunglass on and the other one feels dilated all of the time. So, now the new one isn't letting all of the light in anymore and I can actually read the smaller on TV....

I have a long way to go to reach my goal weight, however, I guess a party with food is out of the question for me. Food is how I gained weight in the first place. Just off the top of my head, I am going to frame my "before" photo and then get an "after" photo and frame both of them to remind me that that I never, ever, want to look like my "before" photo ever again. Then I will get myself new clothes and get rid of all my fat clothes --give them to places like Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.
