Hello all,

It has been months since last I posted, but I found I was pregnant, which was one of my primary reasons for starting on this journey. I have not gone crazy with my eating (eating all the time, or lots of junk), but I am no longer focused on weight loss. I wish everyone continued success on their journeys and I will check to see if the group is still operating when I get re-focused in February. I'm sure I'll have some additional weight to get off by then...

I did notice that you all will be switching forums. I am friends with a couple of you, so I'll look you up at that time to see if anything is still going. Again, success to all!
*I would just like to note that I had maintained the weight I lost during these challenges up until a couple weeks ago, and even still I only have a 3-4 lb gain (I'm 5.5 months) now.

Hi Everyone:

I had the most horrible fight with my elderly father, who is sometimes a very selfish person. I am his caregiver, and spend more than 20 hours per week cooking his meals and organizing his life and cleaning his laundry. He has memory loss and cognitive disability, and when he says awful things to me I usually let it roll off my back but this time I fought back verbally and told him how sick I am of being unappreciated for looking after him.

The end result of all this was my resentment was so great, that I gave in to my emotional overeating which means the scale went up this morning. Now, I am mad at myself for repeating old destructive behaviours.

Anyone else have these problems?

Pam,
Please send me more details about the Walking the Walk spreadsheet and challenge details. Is it in addition to the spreadsheet that DeeAnna is doing? I need something to up my game... I am getting discouraged and I don't want it to be my reason to quit. I want to keep at this.

If you would like to email me (might be easier) please do at McTeacher03@gmail.com (and its a zero not an O).. Thanks!!!!! I look forward to hearing from you! emoticon

THURSDAY: THE FITNESS FACTOR

It's Time to Kick Your Butt Into Gear!
If you're looking to squeeze that butt into skinny jeans this fall, I have just the exercise for you. These step-ups target your glutes, hamstrings, and quads and will help you build a rockin' lower body.

This exercise requires a bench or another type of sturdy platform that is ideally at about knee level. While you're stepping up onto the bench, pay attention to a couple of things. Make sure you maintain good posture — keep your abs drawn in and don't arch or round your back. Also, control your descent rather than letting momentum drop your body as you're stepping down. If you don't think you can step up very high, find a lower bench to work with — a step stool will do the trick!

Step Ups

Stand facing a bench or platform with your feet hip-width apart. Place your left foot up on the bench, making sure your whole foot (including the heel) is firmly on the bench.
Exhale as you press down into your left foot and step your right foot up onto the bench. Both feet should be firmly planted on the bench at the midpoint of this exercise. Then slowly lower your left leg back down to the ground, leaving your right foot firmly on the bench, and repeat. Complete 12 to 15 reps on your left side before switching to the right side for another 12 to 15 reps.

Watch me demonstrate this move.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

Do You Have the Right Shoes?

Sometimes people complain about numbness in their toes during workouts. If you're experiencing this, it's most likely because you need bigger shoes. The shoes you wear when you work out should be a half size larger than your normal size, because the feet tend to swell during exercise. The extra space in the shoe will create a comfort zone without screwing up your foot mechanics.

I'm so frustrated!! I had to weigh in this morning as I am leaving for NY in a couple of hours. I lost... but only 1/2 lb! I have been stuck for 3 weeks!... Not sure why. No, I can't exercise right now, but that can't be the only factor!
My calories for the past two weeks (that the dietitian wants a record of) have averaged out at 1544 /day.. well within the range she gave me of 1200-1700! I was losing more weight when my calories were higher! UGH!

OK.. done venting.. going to enjoy my vacation and deal with it when I get home.

Good day Wednesday everyone emoticon

Blanche: I hear you about bone spurs. I had one on my heel many years ago. I don't remember how it went away but I do remember spending a lot of time with foot doctors back in those days. I think the feet are the first to go when it comes to resuming any kind of weight bearing activities. I used to have to wear both arms in cast splints supposedly during sleep at night about 20 years ago. I wore them one night, had a dream the house was on fire and awoke in a sweat. I never wore them again but I was in rehabilitation for that double injury for over a year. I hate going to doctors, physical therapists, etc. etc. Our bodies sometimes just won't let us do what we want to do.

Deanna, thanks for getting back to me regarding the spreadsheet. I sent you my email address. I am going to work the one that I created as well as yours. I have some very specific and ambitious year end goals set for myself and I feel the pressure already to get into action. I am getting psyched to see what all you have for us to do. Should be fun!

So, how are things forming up, Sarah, over on the "re-" newed team? I hope, everyone will introduce themselves so we can find out a bit about each other.

Well, my back has been bothering me again the past several days and nights. I used to do a lot of heavier lifting in the past but now is different. I found myself pushing my back up against the back of my favorite loveseat (where the arm and the back meet) so I could have added support. I am pushing through on some projects around here now that the weather has calmed down as well as our a/c fixed. Paul's work has picked up again so I have more time "home alone" undisturbed to work on these ongoing projects.

I have been kind of blue the past couple of days (my Mom's birthday was Monday) and I realized how short of time we spend here on earth and that it is important to not only make the time mean something for ourselves, and hopefully for others, but also to enjoy our life, in spite of whatever is happening. I never valued life itself as much as after my Mom died. She was too young to die so soon and although I know she is in heaven now (seriously, I do know this) so I know she is eternally happy; I still have so much I hope to do with my own life, God willing. Getting this weight off this year is #1. I get tired of saying that but it is the fact right now. I will not rest until I have made my end goal weight so the "heat is on".

Take care, Pam emoticon

Morning all... had a REALLY bad food night. UGH.. not sure if it was due to my Dr. appt or what. I didn't think I was that upset at being "sidelined" on exercise for weeks... but maybe deep down I am!

DeeAnna... I did get the spread sheet... thanks!

I got to sleep in today... DD didn't go to work. So.. the whole night splint for my foot thing! Are you kidding? SLEEP in that thing?? Didn't go so well... had it off within 15 minutes!.. I did sit in the living room for over 2 hours with it on, though..... I'll keep trying, but it is VERY uncomfortable!

WEDNESDSAY: RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Are You Eating a Breakfast That Lasts?
As many of you know, breakfast is an absolute MUST in my book. Eating a hearty breakfast helps reduce levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, keeping you satisfied throughout the morning and allowing your mind to focus on things other than your next food fix.

While you probably don't have time to make a gourmet meal before work each morning, that's no excuse to skip breakfast. There's nothing easier than pouring low-fat milk into a bowl of whole-grain cereal. Cook more involved recipes ahead of time, or cut down on the morning workload by preparing the core ingredients the night before.

Try this vegetarian egg bake — it's packed with high-volume, low-calorie veggies and lots of healthy protein that will keep you satisfied and prevent energy lags later in the day. The salsa adds a nice kick! Make this the night before and give it a quick warm-up in the microwave in the morning.

Vegetarian Egg Bake

Ingredients

10 egg whites, beaten
1/4 cup reduced-fat (2%) organic milk
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Cooking spray
1 large onion, diced
2 cups tomatoes, chopped
1 cup fresh spinach
1/2 cup salsa

Preparation

Preheat oven to 300°F. Combine egg whites, milk, and pepper in a large bowl and set aside.

Spray a large, heavy skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Sauté the onion for 5 minutes. Add the diced tomatoes and spinach and sauté another 10 minutes, stirring frequently.

Transfer vegetables to egg mixture and combine thoroughly. Pour into a lightly oiled glass pie plate and bake 15 minutes or until eggs are set. Do not overcook.

Cut into wedges and serve at room temperature with salsa.

Makes 4 servings.

Get the nutritional information for this recipe.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

The Breakfast-Ghrelin Connection

A breakfast that combines complex carbohydrates, such as those in whole-wheat toast and oatmeal, with protein is key to keeping ghrelin levels in check. Carbohydrates have a profound effect on ghrelin — as insulin is released in response to the conversion of carbs to blood glucose, ghrelin goes down. Protein, while not as immediately effective as carbohydrates, still has a significant effect in reducing ghrelin. Skipping breakfast will do nothing but slow you down, leaving you sluggish and more likely to consume extra calories later in the day.

Hi,

I just got back from my cardio kickboxing class and what a work out. Anyway, my instructor finally got pregnant-she has been going through infertility treatments (I have been there) and she was told it was a high risk pregnancy anyway, she is quitting-next week will be her last week. We will have a new instructor, so hopefully that will go well.

It was a bad stressful day today and I splurged and ate some marshmallow peeps. I got a few things left to do for the evening and then time for rest. Got a 5 am work out class

Hello,

I saw the posts about the spreadsheet. I am working on a spreadsheet. I worked on it all last night (and forgot to post yesterday because I was busy working on the spreadsheet). I just have a few more things and then I will be sending it out to you all for the next BC over at JJ Circle Sisters. It is my understanding that we will still being doing it. I have some neat challenges for the next BC.

Played golf today. Walked 9 and rode 9 holes. Then headed out grocery shopping. My son started back to college yesterday. Last night his girlfriend came over. We very seldom see her. But she is a really nice girl.

Have a good evening!

Hey guys! first, yea.. I like weekly stats..
second... I agree Pam.. I like the spreadsheet!

OK.. I had my Dr. appt... I have Plantar Fasciitis. Not easy to spell... but . I have a very noticeable bone spur on the bottom of my heel. (Even I could see it in the xray). I have to wear a night splint, and stop training for the marathon until it's heeled. Oh joy.

OK .. well.. onward. I did do one stupid thing.. I stopped at Starbucks on the way home.. had a Grande s/f, f/f latte... not so bad, but I also got one of their ground mustard filled pretzels! It was yummy, but 320 calories!!!!! grrr.

Onward I go.

Good Day Tuesday everyone emoticon

Before I step on anyone's toes here, I just want to make sure what our plans are regarding using the format that we have been using since mid-March; using the spreadsheet to keep track of our daily and weekly weight loss efforts. As I have mentioned to Deanna I have felt that this has one of the key "tools" that I have used this past year in losing weight. I like the structure for one thing. I feel that it reinforces good habits that I not only need now to lose weight but to continue after I have lost all of my weight so I will make sure to keep it off. As most of you who have doing this long enough know by now: this is WORK. It takes dedication, setting aside time specifically to do workouts emoticon or plan meals emoticon , and it takes a determination to not quit no matter what "obstacles or hurdles" are in your way. Now, THAT is the "challenge" part of all of this! emoticon

After I wake up, get my morning prayers said, make my first meal of the day and make my bed (not in that order always); I turn on my computer and make a beeline to my spreadsheet. You would think that I would get bored looking at it day after day but I find that it grounds me. It reminds me of what I need to do that day. If I have learned anything this past year is that weight loss does NOT happen by "magic" nor "wishing". It happens by applying some specific behaviors day in and day out over and over again and again.

I have personally decided that I "need" that structure of working this spreadsheet. As they say in OA, "working your program"; well, this spreadsheet has become "my program". So, I spent a part of yesterday tweaking one of our older spreadsheets. First of all, I have thanked Deanna in the past but it bears repeating again: there were many great ideas on these spreadsheets that she worked so hard on (and this is one busy lady too!) but as I have said before here, I have joined other short term SP Challenges and on some of them there were some "guideposts" they recommended we Sparkies work on and at to lose weight.

So, I added some of those as daily "markers" as well as revamped the strength exercises according to what I have found the most helpful to me. I kept some of the Weekly Challenges that encourage getting to know this site because I for one now use this site every day and I am not sure if I would have had I had not been prompted to do so. I will continue to finish up an 8 week spreadsheet by Thursday. I am titling it "Walking the Walk" Challenge. I feel that "action speaks louder than words". We can stand by the water cooler all day but if we don't draw any water out to drink ourselves, then what was all of that for? I did this for years so I know that when I am pointing a finger, three are right back at me as well.

IF anyone here or in the other new melded group wishes to join me doing this "Walking The Walk" Challenge using the revised spreadsheet, please let me know by Thursday or Friday and I will send you one to follow. I want to make this CLEAR that I am NOT suggesting that this replace anything that Sarah or others have planned for the JJ Sister Circle team. I am just saying that I have found this helpful and so I plan to stay with what works for me. I have lost 30 lbs since using these spreadsheets and an equal numbers of inches as well so I do know that it is an integral part of my weight loss progress these past 5 months.

I have juggled working 2-3 challenges simultaneously this past summer so I think that I can do this as well as whatever the JJ Sister Circle team wishes to do. I want Sarah and any other co-leaders to know I am ready to roll up my sleeves and be an active part of the JJ Sister Circle. Consider my "side challenge" as "extra credit" emoticon (always the teacher emoticon .

Take care, Pam emoticon

TUESDAY: YOUR METABOLISM 101

5 Ways to Calm Hunger Pangs
Do you start getting hunger pangs at 11:50 a.m. in anticipation of lunch? We've all been there. The cause is the hormone ghrelin; released when the stomach is empty, it sets off a chain reaction in the body to make you hungry. In general, you want to keep levels of ghrelin low during the day so you can keep hunger in check. Apart from an empty stomach, there are several factors that can raise ghrelin levels, including drinking alcohol, eating too few calories, and eating greasy, fatty foods. Here are some strategies that will help you manage these triggers and keep your ghrelin levels from rising:

Have a substantial breakfast. One study showed that people who ate a higher-calorie breakfast produced 33 percent less ghrelin throughout the day and felt satisfied for a longer period of time. Try a whole-wheat English muffin with organic peanut butter, a cup of strawberries, and some low-fat yogurt.

Choose complex carbs and get more fiber. Insulin and ghrelin go hand in hand. When insulin goes up after you eat, ghrelin goes down. If you eat the wrong kind of carbohydrates — refined carbs such as white bread and pasta — your blood sugar rises dramatically. In response, your body releases a surge of insulin to clear that sugar from the bloodstream. The insulin does its job very efficiently, and the resulting low blood sugar causes hunger sooner. These constant blood sugar ups and downs can wreak havoc on your metabolism, so it's best to eat complex carbs and fiber, which delay the release of sugar into the bloodstream so that insulin levels are kept stable and you feel full longer.

Eat on a schedule. Research has found that ghrelin levels rise and fall at your usual mealtimes, so eating on a schedule prevents spikes in ghrelin. If you're running errands and are away from the kitchen at one of your typical mealtimes, carry a small bag of almonds or other nuts with you — you can eat a little something to keep your stomach satisfied until you can get home and have a real meal.

Emphasize high-volume, low-calorie foods. Levels of ghrelin remain high until food stretches the walls of your stomach, making you feel full. High-volume, low-calorie foods, such as salads and soups, reduce ghrelin levels long before you've overeaten. All green veggies and any foods with a high water content count as high-volume, low-calorie foods.

Eat protein. Protein-rich foods can also suppress ghrelin levels — they help create a long-lasting feeling of fullness. Try adding whey protein to a low-calorie smoothie. (If you're sensitive to gluten, just be sure to check the ingredients list; some whey protein products contain gluten.) One study found that whey brought about a prolonged suppression of ghrelin.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

No Food Before Bed

For most of your day, the object is to keep ghrelin levels low — you don't need any extra diet-endangering hunger! But at night, you do want ghrelin levels to rise. Your body requires ghrelin to move effectively through all the necessary phases of sleep. Without the proper progression, you won't get to stage 4 sleep — the phase of deep sleep, during which you get a big pulse of growth hormone — or to the REM sleep that helps protect levels of leptin, the hormone that tells your brain you're full. To keep ghrelin levels up at night, don't eat after 9 p.m. Close down that kitchen after dinner and get restful sleep!

Hi everyone

Hope everybody is doing well.

Melissa- If you want to go ahead and send over your numbers for last week. I will be more than glad to add them in.

Okay, I would like to have all of your opinions. I have taken over doing the stats, so how often would you like for me to post the numbers. Do you want it weekly? Whatever is the majority wants to do, I am willing.

I love doing the spreadsheet, it makes me feel more accountable and normally helps me stay on target. I am looking forward to doing my measurements on Friday, I do them and the start and the end of each bootcamp. I have a tendency to rely on pounds lost but I am teaching myself to use measurements along with the pounds.

Alright, I will try to check in later. Got to get to work

Sorry I missed posting this weekend. I did a juicing cleanse with the NOVO wellness community. I found I like juicing but wish I had more time and money too do it as a diet regularly.
Blanche I can sympathize with you. My right foot/heel has healed well. My left still is causing problems. I have done allot of bicycling this summer to compensate for not being able to walk. Please be patient about letting it heal it takes time.

Good day Monday y'all emoticon

This past weekend was one of the happiest weekends that I have had in a very long time. We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary Saturday night by eating out after going to Mass. We had prime rib and shrimp special for $12.99. I haven't had prime rib in decades and it was as good as I remembered it. Then, Sunday afternoon was Paul's concert. There were 160 voices. I did not realize that this whole concert was sung acapella! I sat in the middle of the church and I could feel the strength of those voices on my chest! Wow! It was all spirituals by American composers. It was very powerful, emotional and so well done.

Of course, it rained all weekend on and off and this entire coming week will be rain as well. We have lived here 9 1/2 years and this is the rainiest summer yet. We got in the pool once so far. You just never know when you suit up if you will start to see dark clouds and hear thunder. I guess, all bets are off on getting a tan at this point.

Sarah, I have also mentioned to Deanna that if she is getting tired of doing the spreadsheet, I would be more than willing to take that task over for her. I know that it has been a great check list for me both daily and weekly and I have gotten a lot out of it. For example, I drink a lot of non-caloric beverages but water is not always one of them. So, I set a personal goal each week of seeing just how many days I can that water in. I am up to 4x a week but considering where I was, I am quite pleased with that. If the group decides they want to abandon the spreadsheet entirely, I still think I am going to erase what I did before and just change the dates and continue to use it. I truly and sincerely believe it was a part of whatever success I have had so far.

Kris, I too looked at my overall efforts this past (nearly) 8 weeks and I have lost the least amount of weight of all of the BCs so far BUT like you I have really lost a lot of inches. One area that I really worked especially hard on was my abs over the summer and now I can say that I see a waist coming out of hiding. There is definitely something going on with my back but it is not bad enough that I am in a lot of pain. It just seems 'touchy' and at times after getting up and sitting down, I will get spasms in my lower back. Any one have any suggestions on this?

Well, I will head on over to the Sister Circle and see who all is over there.

Sarah, does our Sister Circle challenge begin on Friday or Saturday or will we wait until Monday?

Take care, Pam emoticon

Melissa-We would just be taking our BC over to a private thread. Right now I have it set on public but on Thursday evening I'll change it back to private. It is fine with me that you post your stats now I think Kris is going to start doing the stats and I don't think she has closed the thread yet.

Hi Ladies! I am back from Volleyball Camp. What a week!! It was crazy! I was logging upwards of 15k steps a day without my regular runs. The one day I ran I actually logged 20k steps. Amazing! So what sucked about that week? Oh I gained weight. Well this week is a new week. emoticon

So I haven't had a chance to go back through all the posts, but I saw something about a move to Circle Sisters? What is that about? How would that work? Any info would be great... I don't want to lose the accountability factor and I don't want to lose the group dynamics with you ladies. So please let me know what is happening....

I didn't get a chance to check in from last week, but I have my numbers and stats if you want me to post them Sarah. Just let me know. emoticon

I hope everyone is doing well. I am going to go back through and attempt to read through the old posts.

Melissa

MONDAY: MYTH BUSTER

MYTH: You Have to Go to a Gym to Get in Shape

The Truth: You don't need a fancy home gym or an expensive gym membership to get in shape or lose weight. There are tons of free or low-cost ways to reach your goals!

As a trainer, I've heard every excuse for why people don't exercise. One of the biggest reasons I hear is: "I can't afford a gym membership." I'm so sick of hearing that one — mainly because whether or not you belong to a gym is totally irrelevant! There are so many ways you can stay active, burn calories, and lose weight without an expensive gym membership. In fact, most of my workouts rely very little on equipment — and you've seen proof of the results. Not sure where to begin? Try these suggestions to work out on the cheap.

Look for free or discounted classes. Take advantage of free classes, personal training, and gym trials in your community, school, or workplace. You can sign up for notifications from local gyms, fitness studios, recreation centers, libraries, and fitness Web sites to stay informed. At home, get creative — strength train with water jugs or soup cans as free weights, use a wall for resistance to modify exercises like squats, or use your stairs! Don't forget to look online for tools from reputable organizations such as the American Council on Exercise. You can also search for free workout videos — like those on my Daily Dose YouTube show, which includes such episodes as Arm Toning Tips, Booty Bootcamp, Chest Workout Bootcamp, Fitness Test, Hotel Room Workout, Killer Abs Workout, Thigh Exercises, and Towel Workout.

Invest in low-cost options. There are many affordable tools that can help you get started with your fitness regimen. Borrow workout DVDs, fitness books, or magazines from the library. Look for ones that offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced options, so you can continue to build on the basics. For example, my Ripped in 30 DVD takes you from level one through level four for a full month of workouts. You could also invest in inexpensive fitness equipment like dumbbells, jump ropes, exercise balls, and resistance bands. Another option is to sign up for an online fitness program like my program here on JillianMichaels.com — you'll get quick access to customized diet and fitness plans as well as a supportive community. The key is to choose valuable tools that you can rely on and build upon.

Take your workout outside. Maybe your idea of working out — say, running on the treadmill — is the last thing you ever want to do. Don't give up all hope of getting in shape — your choices aren't limited to cardio machines indoors. Get outside when the weather permits. Look online to map out a new hiking or biking trail, try new exercises from my free mobile app or a free couch-to-5k app on your smartphone, or go swimming at a local pool. Check with your local community colleges, city, or town too: They often offer open swimming times or use of basketball or tennis courts.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

The Bottom Line:

You don't need a gym membership to get in shape. Find what works for you, invest in a few inexpensive tools that you can reuse over and over, and don't be afraid to try new ways to stay in shape. No more excuses. Now, get moving!

Good Evening!

Got off work this morning, came home and slept for an hour and half then had church. Today was our LIFEgroup kick off and school kick off. School starts Monday here, although some kids started last week. After each service today we had a "Grillin, Chillin, and Spiritual Fillin" cookout. They also had backyard games like Hillbilly golf, disk golf throw, etc too. I work 3rd shift again tonight. So, I will be heading back to work at 11 pm tonight again. I need to get a couple more hours of sleep before heading back to work, slept 4 hours after getting home from church today. No time for exercise today with church and sleeping.

Have a good evening!

Good morning all! Yesterday seemed to be a good day, except for exercise. My foot still hurts and now my thighs, hips and back hurt because of compensating when I walk! I find myself putting my weight on parts of my foot not designed for it... and limping.. and now it's affecting my entire body! Grrr... Oh well.. maybe the Dr can help on Tuesday.

Food wise, I did good! Oddly enough... the normal 3 meals with 2-3 small snacks does not seem to work for me.. eating small amounts in the morning.. then 200-300 calories 4-5 times throughout the day keeps me satisfied and energized. I know it's odd.. but it works for me! LOL

Hoping that Thursday will show a good loss for me before my trip....to keep me good on my trip! LOL

Hello

I was going over my stats this week and I didn't realize that I have struggled as much as I actually did. I thought it was about half of this bootcamp but it seems that it was almost the whole time. I have lost 1 pound total on this round, however I know that I have lost inches so I am happy about that and proud for what I have accomplished. However, I really need to get my butt back in gear.

I am hoping that I can get back on eating healthier.

Dee Anna-sorry to hear about your gain but I think that we have all been there, losing and gaining the same old pounds.

My hubby had his surgery yesterday and he also purchased a fitbit to track his steps. Maybe this is what I need someone at home to help me stay motivated. I hope everyone has a great day.

Kris

Morning Campers,

SUNDAY: ASK JILLIAN

Working Around an Injury
Q: It seems as though whenever I start to get into a groove with working out, something happens to set me back. Most recently, I sustained an injury to my knee. Is it possible to keep exercising?

A: Okay, so you're injured — don't despair! With care and knowledge, chances are you can still exercise safely.

But before we get into that, I need to stress that I am not a doctor. I get so many questions from people about specific injuries, and it would be very irresponsible of me to diagnose your ailment and prescribe a course of treatment. I strongly recommend that anyone with an injury consult a physical therapist or physiatrist (sports medicine doctor) before beginning any exercise program.

While I can't speak about your specific injury, there are some tips you can keep in mind when planning your fitness routine. If your injury is in your lower extremities — knees, ankles, feet, shins, or calves — try low-impact forms of cardio, such as swimming, recumbent biking, rowing, and shadowboxing with light weights in each hand. You can also continue to do resistance-training moves for your upper body, such as back, chest, abs, and arm exercises.

If you've sustained an injury in your upper body, such as a rotator-cuff injury or torn biceps, for example, you can do high-intensity lower body cardio like running, step aerobics, jumping rope, elliptical machine, spinning, and so on. You can also continue to do exercises for your lower body, such as lunges, squats, leg presses, and dead lifts.

Keep in mind that many injuries stem from lack of conditioning and poor health in the first place. As you get healthier, you should begin to feel those sore knees getting better with every workout. No matter what, don't give up! As long as you are watching what you eat and following the tips mentioned above, you will continue to get healthy and lose weight. You may not be moving at the most accelerated pace, but you are moving forward, not backward. That's something to celebrate!
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

Finding a Good PT

If you sustain an injury, the last thing you want to do is make it worse. I'm serious when I recommend seeing a physiatrist or physical therapist before you attempt to exercise. A physiatrist is an M.D. who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and a physical therapist is a health care professional who's licensed to diagnose and treat physical injuries and conditions. You can find a physical therapist near you on the American Physical Therapy Association's "Find a PT" Web page, and you can find a physiatrist on the Web site of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Hi Gals!

Thank you for all the encouraging words about the big gain. I really appreciate it. And I did something today I haven't done in a couple of months and that was go walk the big loop at the park. I loved it! It was a beautiful day for it too! Our weather has been so pleasant the last week in the mornings, 60's. Very very unusual for us in August. I started recording my food to as of yesterday. Tonight have to work 3rd shift. So, just woke from a 3 hour nap. I will be going in at 10 pm and working until 7 am.

Ok just joined JJ Circle Sisters.

Have a good evening!

Good day Saturday all emoticon

Blanche, I am so sorry to hear about your foot. A couple of weeks ago, I was streaming the video for the back extension on ball that is listed as part of our AB weekend challenge. Well, I was "in a hurry" (famous last words) and I didn't realize that not everyone's torso is the same and I put the weight more on my upper body rather than the middle and I hurt my back. I ended taking 10,000(yup, that much) mg of Tylenol over a period of 36 hours to get that back to "semi-normal" and then had to avoid all exercising (especially core) for the remainder of that week. Also, I have found that using the band for some of these leg extensions (in other lower body exercises in our weekly challenges) really pulls on my right knee (the one I had surgery on and now need it replaced) so I had to forego the band.

The one important thing that I have learned by trying all of these different exercises featured here on SP is which ones to avoid! emoticon Still, there are plenty that I can do so I just rotate them throughout the week. Moral of my story is: what you don't know CAN and often does HURT YOU! emoticon

Speaking of exercise; besides, the benefits of stronger muscles and revved up metabolism, I am also doing all of these strength and toning exercises so I have the opportunity to tighten everything while I am losing and not wait (like many do) until I have lost all of the weight. However, who knows what the "final result" will look like? I will just have to wait and see. So, be patient, Colleen, you want to do it when everything "is ready". Besides, I hear that the recovery included wearing a tight girdle so your stitches don't tear so you don't want to go through this twice. We are rooting for you! emoticon

If I don't lose as much as I would like with my breasts, I am having a reduction. I was trying on some really form fitting dresses for fall this past week (all of that ab work is paying off!) and the first thing I noticed was my large bust. I do not know why some of these women (Pamela Anderson for one) want to go in and get "big knockers". I realize some men really like them but then they aren't the ones with "the girls" strapped on their front all day either, are they? I can't sleep on my stomach because of my chest size and sometimes I end up pinching them when I sleep on my sides. More trouble than they are worth, IMO. So, that is on my "to do" list. Good luck! WTG, Colleen, on making it this far that now that is a concern of yours. emoticon

Deanna, when I was reading your post, I was thinking of every year up until this one when that was me. I was looking for an online friend's address a couple of weeks ago on my computer and so I was hunting in some old files. I came across some of my weigh-ins that I just to keep for my own records. I lost the same 15 lbs 10x over a period of several years. If I were to lose 15 lbs back to back, I would have made my end goal weight by now. I was depressed the rest of the day thinking about that. However, having said that, we can't do anything about what happened yesterday or even the day before that; all we have is TODAY so try to start over today with the firm resolution that just because that has been the past doesn't mean it has to define your day today or your future. The future is an unwritten book so YOU have the power to write anything on those future pages. Think of that possibility and I hope you will take up that challenge to make today and tomorrow different than yesterday and the past.

Again, I just want to say how much I have enjoyed being a part of this BC team here on SP. Some of you I met in the past at BLC and some of you I have just gotten to know you through this BC challenges. I want to say that you all are always in my thoughts and prayers. When it rains in your area, I say a quick prayer that you won't get drowned (it seems like that just won't quit where we are at) or washed away. When it storms, I hope you are some place safe and warm with candles and a radio. When you are hurting, I pray that God will answer that hurt. I just want you all to know I love you as an online diet buddie, a friend and a "sistah". I only want for you what I want for myself: to lose all of the extra weight and have a happy, healthy life without the extra weight. We can do this! emoticon

Today is our 11th wedding anniversary. We were going to go out to eat with friends but our friend just called and got a reaction to his flu shot (I didn't know people were getting those this early in the season?) but we still are going out after church tonight.

Tomorrow afternoon Paul sings in a summer concert. His music director had an extra tux so he is borrowing that (so we didn't have to rent one). There are 150 voices in this so it should be a nice Sunday afternoon although I will have to bring our golf umbrella because some kind of tropical storm, Erin, is scheduled to hit land and once that does we get high winds and lots more rain (like we need any more!).

I will pop in on Monday and catch up with our plans as a group to join the other group of "sistahs". Should be interesting and fun!

Take care, Pam emoticon

Good morning all!
So.. my foot. Yesterday I iced it, then soaked in a tub, iced some more, did an epsom salt soak, then sat the rest of the evening till around midnight with ice on it.
I was soooo hoping it would be better today. Nope. I mean, I'm getting around, but it HURTS! I even went down to the basement to get one of my crutches to help take the weight off it.
My DH wants to seal our driveway tomorrow.. but it looks as though I may not be able to help him. :-(
Food wise.. stayed under 1200 calories yesterday.
Today, I'm trying something a little different. I had breakfast.. not a shake, but actual food! LOL I had a 100% Whole Wheat Sandwich Thin, with laughing cow cheese and one fried (in Pam) egg. It was actually really good!
I'll have my shake for snack instead. It helps to keep my protein levels up!

SATURDAY: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

Fill Up on Fiber
We've all heard about the benefits of fiber for digestive health, but did you know it's also good for your metabolism? Soluble dietary fiber traps carbohydrates to slow their digestion, checks the rise of glucose after meals, and keeps insulin levels low. It can also help lower cortisol levels and aid in the body's natural disposal of excess estrogen. As if all those positive effects weren't enough, soluble fiber's sticky quality helps drag cholesterol out of the digestive tract, lowering your LDL cholesterol (the "bad" kind).

Another bonus is that most sources of soluble fiber also provide insoluble fiber — the kind that keeps things moving in our digestive tract. How do you know if you're getting enough fiber in your diet? Well, there are a couple of pretty obvious symptoms if you're not:

You're constipated. You should be having at least three bowel movements a week. If not, keep your chin up and try adding more fiber-filled foods, like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, to your diet — see if that doesn't fix the plumbing!
You're often hungry. You could be hungry for a number of reasons, including emotional ones, but lack of fiber is a likely suspect. Fiber helps you feel full, and if you're not getting that warm, fuzzy, fullness feeling, it may be because you need to eat more — you guessed it! — fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

So fiber can help keep you regular and make you feel full. The FDA also considers it to be a powerful fighter against cancer, diabetes, and heart disease as well as digestive disorders and obesity.

As a general rule, you should eat as many organic veggies and as much salad as you possibly can (dressing on the side, please!). This will help make you feel full and keep you from overeating other, more calorie-dense foods. Fill up!
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

Finding Fiber

Sure, eating more fiber sounds like a great idea, but how do you realistically work it in to your day? First, always choose whole-grain products like whole-wheat bread, whole-wheat pasta, and grains like bulgur and quinoa instead of white rice, white bread, and other refined-grain products. Also, follow these tips:

Start the day with whole-grain cereal.
When appropriate, eat vegetables raw, because cooking can reduce fiber content.
Avoid peeling fruits and vegetables when you can, because the skin contains a lot of fiber. (Just be sure to buy organic fruit so you can avoid nasty pesticides.)
Add beans to soups, stews, and salads.
Keep fresh fruit on hand for snacks.

Hi Gang!

I went to a challenging yoga class last night, and I was too sore to go to the gym this morning.

Blanche- Sorry to learn about your sore foot, hope it gets better fast! The surgeon is smart, as if he does a tummy tuck, when there is too much fat, you would end up with ugly fatty lumps.

Sarah, good idea to post on both teams, just til we get used to the new one.

DeeAnna - please don't beat yourself up! I am a yo yo dieter too, so relate. Yes, it will take the 5 weeks to lose the same 15 pounds, but that is a better solution than going up, up up!

Hi all! Just an FYI.. I am leaving town on Thursday morning.. so if the final check-in isn't up yet.. Can I just post my stats to the thread and have someone copy them over for me??

Ok.. so I may be out of commission for a while as far as walking/biking go. :-/ I walked 4.3 miles this morning... and limped the last 1 1/2 miles.. my left heel has been bothering me for some time now.. but after being off it after my walk this morning, I could not put any weight on it.. it had me in tears!! I have iced and iced.. managed to be able to walk.. well, limp.. but it is still very painful. I have already made an appt with my ortho to have it looked at... but it's not till Tuesday...

Morning Campers, Looks like everyone wants to move to the new team as of next Friday so do we want to post on both teams to get used to the other one and still post here to finish up this BC. As soon as we have everyone aboard on the Circle Sisters team then I'll make it private again.

Let me know if you haven't joined yet but want to and I can send out an invite before 1PM today or otherwise it might not be til tomorrow before I get one sent out.

Good day Friday everyone! emoticon

Well, it sounds like there has been changes on the horizon. Sarah, I PMed you for the link since I haven't read any of the posts since I have been gone except the last couple of ones. I too am interested in remaining with this group wherever y'all decide to end up.

It rained almost every day that we were gone but I continued to do my workouts indoors. We did a lot of indoor activities and at times it was kind of "boring" but I kept up what I could with what I had written down of all of our weekly challenges. However, I can say that my food plan was full of a lot of foods that were high calorie and not always high nutrient.

So, if someone wants to fill me in on what the group's plans are, I would appreciate it. I look forward to continuing with all of you on our weight loss journeys.

Have a great day!

Pam

P.S. I scrolled down to find the link Sarah but it didn't work for me. However, I did a search under Spark Teams and found JJ Sister Circle which I just joined. I also posted over there.
Not sure what all is happening but I do hope the core (no pun intended) of our group remains together. I have so enjoyed being a part of this BC. It has been terrific and I have loved your Weekly Challenges, Deanna. Sounds like you will have a brand new home when you get done with all of your interior decorating.

Hello Ladies!

Well first time I have weighed in since basically going a wall with the diet. NOT GOOD! In about 5 weeks I have managed to gain back 16 lbs. In 5 weeks!!!! There went all my hard work out the window, AGAIN! Why do I do that to myself? Here I go losing that same 15 lbs that I have lost 100 times before. WHY OH WHY OH WHY!!! I am not moving my weight ticker. It is going to stay where it is until I can move it down again. It may take me 5 weeks to get those 16 lbs back off. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! I just go through this mindset, about once a year where I just don't care. Ok time to start caring again. Back to it!

Have a good day!

DeeAnna

FRIDAY: FEELING GOOD

Enjoy Foods You Love Without Cheating
Here's a big mistake people make when they set out to lose weight: They say to themselves, "Okay, I'm on a diet, so I'm never eating [insert tempting high-calorie food] again." And then, inevitably, they slip up and binge on that food. They beat themselves up about it, write off their entire healthy-living experiment as a failure, and give up.

Sound familiar?

Living a healthy life is all about balance. You have to learn how to walk a line between self-denial and self-indulgence. It's the middle ground between the two that offers the best foundation on which to build your new life. Denying yourself little pleasures such as the occasional glass of wine or chocolate truffle will only make you feel deprived, frustrated, and ultimately hopeless about maintaining your discipline. A temptation is a lot less powerful if it isn't totally forbidden. This is where moderation comes in.

I will never be able to give up all the edible goodies life has to offer, but by practicing moderation I've found a solution to my weaknesses that I can live with every day. There's room for all foods, no matter how "bad" they are; it's just a matter of being conscious and careful of how often you eat them and how much. It's fine to have a piece of cake now and then — just not every day, and not the whole cake.

I can already hear what you're thinking: "If I eat a little bit, I'll want it all." We all have at least one food that we truly can't eat a little of without going overboard. Mine is ice cream. If you know that a particular food has that kind of trigger effect on you, try choosing an alternative. I will often have a few bites of organic dark chocolate instead of ice cream so that my sweet tooth will be satisfied but I won't end up with an empty ice cream carton in my hands. If your weakness is potato chips, try having some air-popped popcorn as a snack instead. Trust me — in time you can adapt so that small amounts of "cheat" foods will not set you off on a binge.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

Stay Out of Danger Zones

If you're troubled by temptations at the office, see if you can really make an effort to avoid the high-voltage areas. If there's a vending machine in the office kitchen that gets you every time, or if the cafeteria offers a lot of high-fat or processed foods, stay away from those places. Bring in your own healthy meals, and keep good-for-you snacks at your desk. Try to steer clear of anything that might throw you off course!

Hello,

I just noticed the little cartoon character at the top for Dr. Oz holding her belly...looks like me! Well my belly any way. Tomorrow is going to be horrible for weight, I have put on so much weight since I last weighed in. I have done horrible this week too. Just can't get myself on track. Every day I say today, then I don't do it. There has been so much going on in my house that I have just thrown everything out the window. Plus all the out of town trips before hand. Oh well got to face the scale tomorrow.

Good morning! Yesterday went really well, except for NO exercise! Oh well... I did at least do well with my eating. It felt like I ate ALL DAY.. which I did.. but still under 1400 calories! Yeah me!

I leave one week from today for NY to spend 5 days traveling the state with my sister.! We shall see how that goes food wise.. won't be easy as EVERY meal for 5 DAYS will be eaten out!

I should get some exercise, though, as at 68 (69 on the 31st :-) ) my sister never stops moving!
OK.. gotta go get these munchkins to the park to tire them out for their naps!!!!!

THURSDAY: THE FITNESS FACTOR

Get Fit With Group Cardio
Haven't found an exercise you absolutely love to do? You've tried them all — ellipticals, recumbent bikes, treadmills, even the dreaded StairMaster — and hated every second of it. Well, you're not alone. But that doesn't mean there isn't an exercise out there just for you. Have you ever considered that you just don't like exercising alone? Often, it's the solitary nature of exercise that turns us off. Sometimes we need a support system to keep us moving. Sound like you? Try joining a group exercise class and find out!

The advantage to exercise classes is that they're a whole lot more fun than sweating it out by yourself. Most group classes add an element of fun to the mix — like hooking you into the latest and hippest dance moves and music. Plus, when you join a group, people will look out for you, which can motivate you and help keep you accountable. Just make sure the class you take involves a minimum of 45 minutes of activity and keeps your heart rate up above 60 percent. Try any of these or other cardiovascular classes at your local fitness center or gym:

African dance
Boot camp
Cardio kickboxing
CrossFit
Hip-hop dance
Jillian Michaels Bodyshred
Mixed martial arts
Obstacle or endurance training classes
Spinning
Step aerobics
TRX suspension training
ZUMBA®

JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

The First Step

Sure, your first day of class may be intimidating. It seems as if everyone is super fit and has known everyone else in the class for ages. They use slang fitness terms you've never heard, set up their equipment in their "spot," and never miss a step during the routines. Keep in mind that they were all once newbies, too. If you feel uncomfortable, get to class a few minutes early — you can introduce yourself to the instructor, tell her about any limitations you may have, and let her show you how to set up your equipment, if there is any.

Good morning everyone,

Sorry, I haven't been much in contact this week. It has been really busy this week and should calm down after tomorrow. Been at work, working extra to make up missing tomorrow (hubby minor surgery) and my son starts school today, so I will be a little late. Yes, my son is a junior this year, but we have a tradition that I will always take a photo of the first day of school. Anyway, I only have 1 left after this year.

I am fine with moving to the circle sisters.

I noticed a lot of people aren't posting, where did everyone go?

I will try to check in later today but if not I will tomorrow afternoon.

Wish everybody luck on weigh in tomorrow

Kris

Good morning girls!

Well, I set my alarm for 5:45 am, and met my friend at the gym for some weightlifting and cardio! We were both super tired, not enough sleep. We are going to meet tomorrow morning too.

It is my goal to no longer be a vampire night person, so my committment is to meet my friend 4 mornings a week at the gym.

Have a good day!

Good morning all!.. Well, my recovery day went well.. with one exception... I had a latte... I just can't seem to give them up! I started my diet log for the nutritionist yesterday.. my appt's in two weeks and she wants two weeks of logs.. wish I could just print it out, but... nope.

Anyway... they are going to see that I haven't given them up and I'm gonna hear about it! I have cut back... fewer, and smaller.... and they are s/f and f/f.... lol

Anyway... today I wanted to get my munchkins back to the park, but the weatherman lied to us. It was supposed to be cool and clear.. 0% chance of rain... well, it's COLD and raining. Bummer. I want to walk sometime today too... have to wait till my DH gets up.

As for moving to the other group... as long as everything works the same I have no issue... I'll post a vote later...

WEDNESDAY: RECIPE OF THE WEEK

In a Rush? This Supper's a Snap
When you're short on time and need a quick dinner, this healthy and delicious shrimp dish is the perfect option. Red pepper and asparagus not only give this dish its colorful appearance but they also provide important nutrients, including heart-healthy lycopene and folic acid. You can use frozen shrimp if you can't get to the store to buy fresh. Serve with a healthy whole grain like quinoa or whole-wheat couscous and you've got a balanced meal.

Lemon-Garlic Shrimp and Vegetables

Ingredients:

4 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
2 large organic red bell peppers, diced
2 pounds asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
2 teaspoons freshly grated lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
5 garlic cloves, minced
1 pound raw shrimp (26—30 shrimp per pound), peeled and deveined
1 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped

Preparation:

Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add bell peppers, asparagus, lemon zest, and 1/4 teaspoon salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are just beginning to soften, about 6 minutes. Transfer the vegetables to a bowl; cover to keep warm.
Add the remaining 2 teaspoons of oil and garlic to the skillet and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add shrimp and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
Whisk broth and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth, and add to the skillet along with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook, stirring, until the sauce has thickened slightly and the shrimp are pink and just cooked through, about 2 minutes more. Remove from the heat.
Stir in lemon juice and parsley. Serve the shrimp and sauce over the vegetables.

Makes 4 servings.

JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

Color Me Nutritious

We've all heard that the darker the green, the better it is for you. But greens aren't the only superpower in the produce aisle! From the cancer-fighting beta carotene in carrots and sweet potatoes, to the powerful antioxidants in berries, eggplants, and beets, Mother Nature certainly did an incredible job at making sure we were taken care of. Check out your local farmers' market and shop for a rainbow of fresh organic produce to make sure you're getting a variety of nutrients.

DeeAnna--We would if we chose to start the next BC on that thread and if we get it active again some of the ladies from the JJ's BC team of years ago will come back and start posting again. I feel like you all are just as much sisters to me as the JJ's are and would love to combine the two and have all my sistas together on the same team.

Sorry I have missed a couple days since coming back. I have been so busy. We got new carpet yesterday and they finished up today. When you have a house full of furniture you have to move it is like moving again. My house is a disrupted mess! We put new carpet in all the bedrooms, and of course the carpet layers wanted to do all rooms at once. So, all the bedroom furniture was either in the living room, kitchen, or in our dinning room. I also had to pack up boxes from all the rooms too. What a mess! We also just switched from Cox to ATT with all our TV stuff. And that has been a mess too. I love my new carpet though!

Sarah - So, if we move to the circle sisters do they do the same thing as we do? I am all for combining if we are going to basically do the same thing.

Got to go!

DeeAnna

Hi Girls:

I had a bad time last night with compulsive late night TV watching and mindless munching!

Today, I am focused on getting back on track and forgiving myself with acceptance of my shortcomings.

Afternoon Campers,

Blanche--It is up to the group what we do for sure after this BC ends. I'll put a poll up in a bit and see what the group wants to do.

TUESDAY: YOUR METABOLISM 101

Are There Toxins in Your Cosmetics?
Did you know that cosmetics and personal-care products are a huge source of endocrine-disrupting chemicals? "But wait," you're thinking. "If it's on the drugstore shelf, it must be proven to be 100 percent safe — right?"

Not necessarily. While the Food and Drug Administration regulates the safety of cosmetics, manufacturers don't have to seek approval before they bring a new product to market. Beyond an established list of prohibited or restricted substances, the FDA doesn't have the authority to regulate individual ingredients. As a result, all kinds of questionable chemicals are contained in the products that many of us rub into our skin every day. Here are some of the potentially harmful ones I want you to avoid:

Formaldehyde: This preservative may be found in moisturizers, facial cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, body washes, eye shadows, mascaras, and many other products. It's harmful to the immune system and is a known human carcinogen.

Parabens: Found in shampoos, conditioners, body washes, tooth whiteners, toothpastes, facial cleansers, sunscreens, moisturizers, and astringents, these preservatives have estrogenic effects on the body and have been linked to breast and prostate cancer.

Placenta: Used in some hair relaxers, moisturizers, and toners, placenta is also estrogenic and may increase the risk for breast cancer.

Triclosan: This antibacterial agent is found in a variety of products, including moisturizers, hand creams, shampoos, conditioners, antiperspirants, and toothpastes. It may interfere with the metabolism of thyroid hormone and contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Play it safe when you buy personal care products — look them up in the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep database.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

A Not-So-Sweet Smell

If you've ever read the ingredients list of a cosmetic product, you've probably seen the term "fragrance" on it. Seems kind of vague, doesn't it? Well, that's deliberate — companies aren't required to say what constitutes "fragrance" because that information is considered a trade secret. For this reason, some scary stuff can be hiding behind that term, including phthalates, a group of chemicals that can interfere with reproductive hormones and cause birth defects. If a product contains fragrance, put it back on the shelf.

Good Morning

Sorry, I missed checking in yesterday, had a splitting headache. Yesterday, not such a bad day got up and did my tabata/core class. I was pretty smart this time, when it was jumping time, I didn't do it every time but did some modifications. I am sure it wasn't as much cardio or calorie burn of not jumping every time, but I don't have to take any pain pills today like last week.

Yesterday, I went and did some baby shopping for a shower gift. Wow, did that stuff get really pricey and just so darned cute. Unfortunately, went overboard and spent a little to much, It was just so hard to shop, they decided not to find out the sex of the baby and it seems everything cute is either for a girl or a boy. Personally, I swear it is a girl.

Alright, another day at work followed by cardio kickboxing.

Will check in later

Kris

Worked out with Jess this morning, we worked on arms bi's and triceps. Ball throw with ten pound ball.
Used the juicer today.

Afternoon Campers, I will be tomorrow evening making the Circle Sisters group private so you will need to send me your e-mail address that you are signed up to spark with so I can invite you.

MONDAY: MYTH BUSTER

MYTH: With the Right Cream, Diet, or Procedure You Can Get Rid of Cellulite

The Truth: Put down the cream and cancel your next laser appointment. There is nothing you can do to get rid of cellulite.

Cellulite sucks, I know — believe it or not, I suffer with it, too. I beat myself up for years exercising my problem area to death and even testing out different creams or procedures. Trust me when I say nothing worked! Now I've come to terms with my cellulite and the fact that regardless of what I do, it's not going anywhere. Here are a few reasons why cellulite is so tough to get rid of and what you can do to lessen its appearance.

Cellulite is a matter of age and genetics. Cellulite has everything to do with how your skin lies over the layer of adipose fat underneath it — so your best bet for reducing the appearance of cellulite is simply to lower overall body fat with proper diet and exercise. Losing weight can reduce the look of cellulite, especially in women who have a lot of weight to lose. In addition to reducing body fat, you should exercise and work on toning the muscles in your problem areas, which can help a bit by creating a firmer surface for the fat to rest on.

No creams, treatments, or procedures have been proven to eliminate cellulite. Like I said above, weight loss is probably the most beneficial cellulite treatment. Cellulite will never go away completely, but exercising more and eating less will help to reduce its appearance. Even the results of some of the most expensive treatments, which may look convincing, could disappear within six months to two years later. I could go on and on about the different treatments and how they work, but the truth is, even if they produce results — those results are not long-lasting: So you're shelling out a decent chunk of change for something that may last only six months to a year. Sounds like a waste of money to me.

Nearly all women have cellulite. Stop beating yourself up — the majority of women, at least eight out of ten according to the Mayo Clinic, have some degree of cellulite. So yes, that includes your favorite glossy-mag celebrities, "Housewives," and music artists. We're all human and we have flaws. I know this is easier said than done, but try to become indifferent to your cellulite. I'll admit that I still get annoyed occasionally when I see it, but for the most part, I've learned to live with it.
JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

The Bottom Line:

The only way to reduce the appearance of cellulite is to lose weight and tone your muscles by working out more. The superficial creams and procedures do not have a lasting effect on cellulite. At least by working out, you save money and reap lasting health benefits too!

Hello

Very little exercise today, but I have watched my calories. I have been craving some chocolate, so I made home made chocolate covered strawberries. They were really good.

This week I know will be crazy, hubby has surgery on Friday and with my exercise routine at 5 am, I will be struggling to get my hours along with everything else. So, I now that I will have late hours. Also, I made some great fruit bowls this morning for lunch and some type of salad which is broccoli, bacon bits and raisins with some low fat honey mustard. I did have a taste and it was good.

Its going to be a stressful week and I am trying to be prepared.

I will check in tomorrow

Kris

DeeAnna--What I want to do is have us all move to the Circle Sisters team and maybe when this current BC is over then we will start one up there. For now I made the other team public but on Monday evening or maybe Tuesday I'll make the team private again. I posted the link to the team earlier in the day but can repost it tomorrow.

Hello!

I worked today until 3 pm. When I got home I started packing up my office, mainly books. We are getting our new carpet for our bedrooms on Monday. They are moving the furniture but not with stuff inside. So, I will have to pack some things.

Sarah - I am confused? Maybe because I have been out of the loop, but you want to merge with another group? So, are we moving or are they? I am fine with merging two groups. And private would be ok.

Have a good evening!

DeeAnna

Morning Campers, I thought about it and instead of doing invites for a short time I'll take the Circle Sisters team and make it public with a direct link posted here then once we get a few if not all of us over there and maybe even a few newbies then make it private again. All of this might not take place til later this evening since I work 11AM-8PM today.

SATURDAY: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

Beat the Bloat: Sodium 101
You know sodium best as table salt, but salt and sodium are hidden in all kinds of products, including processed foods, frozen and canned foods, fast foods, condiments, and more. You've probably heard that excess sodium can raise your blood pressure, but you may not realize it has negative effects on weight loss too.

When you eat something salty, any excess sodium is deposited just beneath the skin, where it attracts water, which is retained by your cells. Not only can this leave you feeling puffy and bloated, but it can hamper your ability to lose weight. Your body needs a steady flow of water in and out to effectively metabolize fat, and if the water gets dammed up in your cells, your ability to burn fat slows.

Now, don't make yourself crazy over sodium intake, because there is sodium in everything — you can't avoid it completely. And you wouldn't want to — sodium plays an important role in the body, and we need it to survive. Just be conscious of how much you're eating, and minimize it where you can. Here are some tips to get you started:

Read labels to check the sodium content of the foods you're eating. I recommend that you aim for around 1,000 milligrams a day to maximize your body's fat-burning potential and lower your blood pressure; 1,500 mg a day, however, is probably more realistic.
Replace processed foods with fresh foods.
Avoid packaged and canned foods.
Be wary of sodium-laden condiments (soy sauce, mustard, table salt).
Cut down on processed meats (hot dogs, jerky, bologna, corned beef).
Use miso and canned or smoked seafood with caution.
Steer clear of anything pickled (including capers, sauerkraut, and relish).
Consider salt-free flavoring alternatives, like garlic, lemon, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pepper, and spices.

JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY

Water Consumption

As I'm sure you know, water aids in every aspect of body function. Particularly as a facilitator of the fat-burning process, it is a vital part of any diet and exercise program. As a general rule, men should consume 120 ounces of water a day, and women should consume 80 ounces. I recommend distilled water because it's sodium free, but other forms of noncarbonated water are also fine, as long as they have no sodium. Again, read your labels.
