Our latest campout was the District Freezoree at Camp Tuscarora in NC.
The Freezoree theme revolved around the new Search and Rescue Merit Badge. All the activities of the day were geared toward the boys completing that merit badge. They completed everything but one requirement that has to be done online.
While the boys were doing their thing, our adults emptied our trailers and did an inventory of our troop gear. This was important for the adults to do since we just combined troops.
We also had a boy and adult from another troop team up with us.
The weather was beautiful but it did get below freezing each night.
We are going to try to make planning easier for the boys by having them develop various menu plans so all they have to do is pick one. We are going to get some extra sleeping bags for our trailer in case someone needs to double bag themselves or if one gets wet or if a boy forgets one. The boys tended to run late for gatherings so we will do our best to get them to prepare things in advance as much as possible and get an earlier start on the meals. We did have a nice devotional before departing and we will continue to do that. We will also continue working with other small troops to make it enjoyable for the boys. It's a good way to make new friends.
After my son did some youth leader training, he came back with a great tool -- Start, Stop, Continue (SSC). After each activity, we do SSC to see what we can start, stop, or continue to improve our activities.
I didn't see a specific topic for this but I'd like to know what campouts your unit has been on and the good, the bad, and the ugly of that campout so we can learn from each other.
Where did you go? What did you do? What was good? What was bad? What did you learn?
