I like that tip "I can do anything for one day." I appreciate all of the tips you pass on but some really stand out for me. This is one.

At the end of the day, be able to look back and say "I did my best today."

Remember that Spark Coaches are here to help you whenever you need

Eat more to lose weight

I hit a plateau for six weeks I stayed the same but I didn't lose either. I did two sessions on the treadmill morning and afternoon plus stair climbing. After a couple emails to the SP coach she asked my food intake which is 1200 calories. She told me to eat more and see what happens. Well, I felt sick after I ate, so I only increased my food intake by about 100 calories a day. But, quit my second treadmill workout in the afternoon. With that combination I am back to losing.

Exercising alone can get boring for some of us and we may lose our motivation and joining a gym is not for everyone, especially the fees.

Did you know that many communities and senior centers offer group exercise for low or no fees.

My town's recreation department offers daytime and evening group classes in yoga, pilates, cardio, etc. at reasonable fees. They are held in the school gymnasium. Non-residents are invited to join also.

Or just do an online search for free or low fee fitness in your area. You may be surprised at what you find emoticon

Have a weekly plan. Plan you meals and your exercise for a week at a time. It's less overwhelming and less time consuming.

Keep notes on what is working and what is not.

At the end of your week make the changes or adjustments you need to make for the following week.

Motivation Makeover

If you want a plan that works long term, stick with the tried and true. Keep your eating close to the earth with whole fruits, veggies, grains and lean meats. emoticon

Get up and moving with whatever activity suits your style and schedule. emoticon

Remind yourself that following through with real nutrition and fitness habits is a process: It takes the proper planning and commitment that canít be found in a book, a box or a bottle emoticon

Yes I find this works well for me. I get one 500 ml. ( 16 oz) bottle in before each meal and usually one in the evening. It helps so much to get into a regular routine of drinking water on a schedule. Harder to forget that way.

At the end of the day, be able to look back and say "I did my best today."

An easy way to drink 8 glasses of water a day is to get a tall glass which holds 500 ml or 16 floz. Drink one when you wake up in the morning, another before lunch, again before dinner. Thats 6 down, just two more to go throughout the day and whilee exercising and your done.

Buy a big bag of nuts, or dehydrated fruits. Measure them out and put them in plastic containers so you don't have to think about it when you're hungry in a pinch. Lleave some in your car! You can put them in 100 calorie measurements or 50 calorie.

I tried the 10 minute rule yesterday and it really works. I did not want to walk on the treadmill but I committed myself to 10 minutes. 60 minutes later I had walked 3 miles! emoticon

I usually measure. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by how much is in one serving. Rice Krispies is one cup per serving. Adding some fruit really stretches that meal. Yes I do measure the fruit too. emoticon

How much fat is too much depends on your lifestyle, your weight, your age, and most importantly the state of your health. The USDA recommends that the average individual:

Keep total fat intake to 20-35% of calories
Limit saturated fats to less than 10% of your calories (200 calories for a 2000 calorie diet)
Limit trans fats to 1% of calories (2 grams per day for a 2000 calorie diet)

That stopper concept sounds like a simple yet effective way to stop mindless eating. I am going to try that when I go to the next community supper. I always carry gum so I will have it on hand anyway.
I have read somewhere here on SP that drinking a full glass of water before a meal helps you feel full sooner and now gum before dessert.

I know the water idea works now I'm going to try the gum idea.

Thanks so much for that. emoticon

Use a Stopper

We are often driven to eat too much because of the situation we are in. For example, have you ever gone to the movie theater and ordered a large popcorn, just because it seems like the right thing to do? We all associate popcorn with movies, but if you notice that your hunger number is low, then you may not want to indulge in all of the calories.
This is when a Stopper can come in handy. You can eat some popcorn and then put a Stopper in your mouth. This is anything that changes the taste you have in your mouth, try a strong breath mint or a piece of gum. This gives you an opportunity to move away from eating and gives your stomach time to tell your brain you feel satisfied. This works great for avoiding dessert as well!
