Good idea about the Morning Star brand. I forgot about that. I try to buy smaller portions when ever I can. emoticon

I have been following the Solution since Memorial Day...I agree that it was very expensive at first, but it does level out...phew! I do grocery shop more because I am buying more fresh things. The condiments/seasonings do last longer as well because I am not using as much. I have gotten good about freezing things, even beans that I haven't used. The Southwest rice and chiken makes way more than 4-1 cup servings so I am able to freeze the extra for lunches. I couldn't find Miso ANYWHERE so I put my friends on it. I got some for my birthday, LOL!

Some times in the frozen section the Morning Star items comes in smaller amounts so you could try that way for sausage.

I think you should read the recipes and see how many it feeds and adjust your shopping accordingly.

I have never used the egg whites in the carton and am wondering how long an opened carton stays fresh. I find it just as easy to use one whole egg and toss the yolk from the second one. If you have an animal you can feed the yolk to them. I live alone.

Miso paste is in the oriental food section. Miso is refrigerated but the paste doesn't need to be refrigerated until after it is opened.

I have been following SP for almost 2 years and many of the thing the list request, I already had incorporated in my life, I only had to get some of the spices or things that I was running out of. It seems the one egg and one egg white is an issue for some but I have read some members substituting the fresh eggs for egg beaters, I personally use a fresh egg and I always buy just the egg whites so I add one fresh and equivalent to one egg white from a carton.
As you continue to eat healthy you find some of those items in the list becomes regular in your lifestyle.
Good luck everyone emoticon

I've found the shopping list at the end of the book is a bit misleading. It's telling you what to buy for the recipes in the book for the week.

However, the recipes for breakfast and lunch are for a single serving. The recipes for dinner are for four servings. So you're getting two different "portion groups" mixed in the list.

After making the mistake of buying the week 1 shopping list, I recommend you don't do that. Instead looking at the recipes you'll use for the first three or four days and buying the ingredients you see from there. (Plus, the recipes mention appropriate substitutions and serving size so if you're making food for 1 or for 6 you can adjust the sizes).

(edited for clarity)

Most of the recipes are for from one to four servings and the shopping list covers that. But if you want more or less, you have to figure out the adjustments yourself as far as I could tell.

I don't think the book actually tells you how many people the shopping list is for. Is it for 1 or a family of 4? If there two of us do we have to buy two of each of the things or divide everything by 2?

Thanks - I tried searching the book for "shopping" on my kindle and didn't find anything that told me.
