Snacking has actually been shown to speed up one metabolism and who doesn't want that? What kind of snacks do you have? Do you measure them out?

Some of my favorite snacks are dried or fresh fruit, string cheese, nuts, and fiber/ granola bars.

No one has written on here in awhile but oh my gosh, you don't know how encouraging it has been to find this. I am in the exact same situation. I weighed about 130/135 when I came to college and I swore I wouldn't gain the freshman 15. Well I was right, instead I gained the freshman 20. I am now a junior, I have made it down to 140 a few times but I always shoot right back up to 145 then 150.

My main problem is constantly wanting to snack, especially when I am studying. Does anyone else experience this? And how do you overcome it?

I just started this past fall, and I've already gained the freshman 15! I went from about 130 in highschool to 145 in a very short amount of time...the thing is, I don't even eat the cafeteria food! I am a commuter student so I pack my lunch and eat at home most of my time. I'm so glad I found this team, it makes me feel better knowing there are others out there :)

I'm in exactly the same spot. I came to college at about 140, and over January, I hit my highest weight, 172. I gained 32 pounds since my freshman year. It's been creeping up on me gradually, but I've finally had it. I'm back down to 160, and still going. I hope to be back to a healthy weight of 120 before my second senior year starts.

BEKKALOVE: im in pretty much the same situation as you, i just started grad school this year (on top of moving across the country to a new city away from my friends and family) and i weighed myself today and i've officially gained 25lbs since august (i went from 125 to 150lbs). I've been trying for the past few months to lose the weight but i keep finding i get discouraged and stressed and just end up eating and gaining more. But i really mean it this time that i'm going to go back to my healthy lifestyle and lose this weight! i want to lose 20lbs in the next 4-4.5 months, so that i can be me again (and fit into my clothes and not just yoga pants and sweatshirts all the time)

im going to try and channel your positivity and lose change my lifestyle too :)

I weighed about 130 when I entered college in August. I knew I was gaining some weight, but one day I stepped on the scale and was shocked to find that I had gained 20 pounds in about 5 months.
I have got to break this habit and get things back under control.
Even though I'm only a few days into my new lifestyle, I already feel so much better, both emotionally AND physically. :)

well,
Going into college I was about 140. (perfect!) when i graduated after 5 years I was 210... it didn't help that the munchies place had only high fat stuff, and the caf was really not health conscious... On top of not having a gym. (well that was corrected my final semester there!) but yea, after my 1st year i was up at least 30 pounds, and then it just continued to increase. But hopefully now with no stress from trying to get a degree i can FINALLY get it off! =D

Last year was my freshman year in college and I gained approximately 10 lbs without even noticing because I was on the heavy end before I even entered college. Now I'm down 24 lbs and I have 24 to lose before I'm at my goal weight. If anyone would like help or suggestions as to what they can do to lose weight and KEEP it off I'd love to be your friend on Sparkpeople :D

I gained the freshmen 15, but I actually need to lose about 30-40 pounds, so I'm in the same boat. We can do it though!

Ya, thru college I've steadily gained 40 pounds, and it's not coming off nearly as easily as I gained it! The best thing that I'm finding is the food tracker. It prevents me from eating poorly because I hate entering bad foods into the tracker! Good luck with the freshmen 40!

I gained 45 lbs in my first year at college. I used to be a trim 120, but no more. Sigh... Well, my goal is to be 130-135 by September. We shall see, won't we?

I gained 22 in my first semester alone, mostly from not knowing how to eat right in an all-you-can-eat cafeteria. My goal is now to lose all that and then some by September.

ugh. Ive been in college for a little over 2 years now, and I really didn't gain until this last year. But oh man, did I gain. 60 lbs. And it was so rapid, that it started stressing me out, and making me REALLY depressed (for the first time in my life), that I started breaking out too (which was also a first for me). It really has taken a tole on my body. I hardly believe how much I have gained until I see a picture, and dont even recognize myself. So, i know how you guys feel.. Its the single most difficult thing Ive ever been through, and Im so excited to FINALLY nip it in the butt.

I only gained the freshman 15 but in the past 4 years I've collectively gained 30 lbs...ugh

I gained 38 pounds at college. 148 to 186. You know what contributed to this weight gain the most? Eating meals late at night. I'd wake up very late and end up eating dinner, or "dinner 2" at 1 or 2 in the morning. I've gotten so depressed over it but I'm really trying to lose it now. I know how you all feel...it sucks to have gained this weight! But if I can at least eliminate eating really late at night...well, that should get me somewhere :)

Hi! I'm the same, meeting my boyfriend and going to uni coincided within a couple of months of each other, and now I want to get back to the weight I was pre uni and boyfriend - about 14lb lighter...not much i know, but when you have a boyfriend presuring you to lose weight and saying things about big bellys and cellulite etc it makes you feel really down.
So glad to see Im not the only one who likes to enjoy themselves at uni! It can be so tough when everyone around you is worry free, that's for sure!

Hello,

I gained the Freshman 20 and I am about to graduate in a year and I want to make sure I lose all the weight before I graduate. Problem is I tent to eat out alot or if not I binge at night. I really need to change my eating habits. emoticon

I pretty much gained the freshman 40 :-s
I lost 15 of it before joining SP so I'm working towards losing the last 25 so I can get back to where I was in my pre-college days. Unfortunately that's not the end of my weight loss for me :( Even after that, I still have 60 more to go!! Damn, when I say it like that it does seem like a pretty big mountain to climb *sigh*!!!!!

i have managed to get 13 pounds off so far
even though i have a while to go to get off all of the weight i want,

Hi Everyone!,
My Name is Kenzie and I am in my second year of University.... I gained 20 lbs in my first Year and have been at 180lbs for almost exactly a year now. I am looking to get the 20lbs gone so i can get my self confidance back! I'm not buying a scale until next year. I only have three more weeks on campus until summer. Scales sometimes take a while to adjust to the floor you set them on. I know at home if we move it around it won't read correctly at first.

I actually went out to Wal-Mart and bought a scale the other day (along with an exercise ball and a bunch of healthy snacks), but I'm wondering if it really works. Day before yesterday, it said I was 213.5...and today it says 205.5! I honestly don't think I lost 8 pounds in two days...Hmmm...

I went from 145ish to 170 or so.
College is the devil, you are correct.
If I didn't want an education I'd still be fit!
Haha.
I don't have a scale either, my last weigh in was over Easter break when I was home. I won't have another one until May 3rd or so when I move back for summer. It better be a good one!!

It's not just you! I weighed about 160 when I came to college, and now near the end of my sophomore year, I weigh around 200 (though I don't know exactly since I don't own a scale :P).

College is the devil, man. If I weren't getting all these learnin's, I'd totally quit. Heh.

I lost 10 pounds then gained 15...I feel so pathetic. But I think that I am getting back on track, so hopefully I can get back to where I was.
