I gained the freshman 15, then lost most of it the summer after (coaching soccer for 9 hours a day and then working out helped a lot). This past summer I was in Russia -- the land of fried food -- and got up to my highest weight ever. Now I'm back down to my usual college weight, but I want to get back to my high school graduation weight. Glad there's a group of people doing the same thing!

I don't know about you guys, but as soon as I started counting calories I was AMAZED at how many calories I consumed a day! Especially in college it is hard to keep up with these things! What i have done that has helped my success:
1. Keep fruit around instead of potato chips
2. I do not keep junk food in my room, only things I can eat without guilt
- Fruit
- Gum (helps when you THINK you are hungry...)
- Water (fills you up)
- Quaker Rice Cakes
3. When eating at the cafeteria (which is inevetable) making sure I monitor the portion size in relation to how much I really need.

Also, being consistent in exercise is very important for me - even if it means walking up the stairs twice just to get in a little extra activity! Try going out with friends to dance too - this is fun AND burns calories!

Hope you all have a great week,
Deiah

I'm so glad I found this group! Freshman year I gained 15 pounds, sophmore year I lost 10 and then last summer I gained it all back. I have been trying to lose the weight all year, and hopefully this website will help. Have any of you had success so far?

I have to say..this is the perfect group for me..I'm a sophomore and I didn't really realize how much weight i've gained since i've started college. I was a huge athelete in high school..so whatever I ate..i burned off in practice..but when I got to college..all the excercise stopped. So, I was still eating the same but not burning anything off. Also, a freshman's duty is to be as crazy as possible..haha so going out everynight drinking beer and mixed drinks a helped a little with my weight game haha. But, I quit drinking and am trying to just study and live my life right. I have a long way to go..but i'm going to lose that freshman 30!!

Hello! Just joined sparkpeople this week, and found this team! I'm trying to lose my freshman 15, as well as my sophomore 15, plus 10 pounds I picked up while still in high school. I'm already feeling so motivated by this site, I can't wait to start seeing results! emoticon

I just joined sparkpeople and Im in the same boat as sosweet. I've always been overweight, but in college I added another 20 lbs after my freshman year. My boyfriend doesn't help i love him, but he and his family are always going out to resturaunts and you think when you get there just this one time or Ill be better next time, but you don't. Boys are trouble.

Hey guys, this seems to be a good one for me too. I didn't actually gain my weight when I started uni, but I think someone who's a student will get my life easier than someone who isn't...

Hey all. I'm new to this group and just wanted to say how excited I am that I found it. It's exactly what I'm trying to do. I'm looking to shed about 20 pounds that I've been carrying since I was a freshman. Unfortunately my motivation seems to come and go.

I kind of fell off the bandwagon there for a bit but I'm ready to get started again. Lucky I didn't gain back the 6 pounds I had lost. Now I just need to work on my exercise and drinking water again. emoticon

I have to say, we are all really lucky that we are starting now. It is so much more difficult to lose weight when you are in your thirties and forties than when we are young. Hopefully I won't get impatient this time when the weight doesn't fall right off!

Hi everyone! I just joined because, like a lot of you, this topic seems to be exactly what I'm trying to do! I actually just graduated college and have a year off before I start medical school, so I really really want to lose the weight before I start! I weighed 125 when I started college and I really think that that is just about the perfect weight for me and would ultimately like to get back to that. I'm currently 150...I got into a long term relationship with a guy who loves to eat out and just started gaining. I would like to lose the weight and I'm also trying to deal with getting him to lose some weight too. Well anyway, just wanted to introduce myself! I hope we can keep each other motivated!

I'm 24, and graduated from college last December. I'm ready to lose all the weight I put on during and get back down to the 110 I weighed when I graduated high school. I've put on about 15-20 pounds; I don't own a scale, so I'm not really sure, but I want to be able to fit in all my old clothes again!

I sympthasize with the boyfriend thing. It was only until after I broke up with him a few months ago that I decided to take hold of my body:

My story is that I was about 6 or 7 pounds off of my goal weight when I started college, having worked out the entire summer before and doing a very strenuous job of bein a camp counselor with special ed. students. I got into college and started dating my (ex) boyfriend and went on the pill. The combination of the pill, dining hall food, midnight pizza orders, and eating out with the boy meant my body ballooned, but I didn't really notice. My mom did and gave me slack for it, which made me really upset and it is still a really sensitive issue between her and me.

I went to Europe for study abroad this year and started to lose and then started to gain. I then got mono and lost about 8 or 9 pounds, but immediately put it back on when I started stressing about exams and eating a whole packet of custard cream cookies in a sitting. Anyways I need to shed about 20 pounds. I need to do this before November since my brother is getting married and I have to be a bridesmaid in a very form fitting dress and take pictures in it. Have I mentioned I hate pictures? They make me realize how overweight I am.

So yea, hi!

Ugh I totally know what you guys mean! When I moved in with my boyfriend I gained almost 20 pounds!! Instead of suffering through meals with someone who doesn't have to watch what they eat (most guys don't) why not enlist your significant others to diet with you? I put mine on SP too *hehe* and it's working well for the both of us. I even told him what my calorie limits were so he would be able to intervene if I fell off the wagon. Hope the suggestion works for you guys!

SARARAE: sounds like we are in the same situation. its not fair becuase he can eat whatever he wants and he stays thin...but thats a guy for ya! some of my jeans dont fit either and i dont feel comfortable in my clothes anymore. i really just want to stop gaining weight before it gets out of hand. my aunt is severly overweight and young...shes already having major health problems.

RENLAU07 - I too have a great boyfriend that I am really comfortable eating in front of, which is a great thing, but he eats a lot of crap and I get sucked in. I'm weak. I gained 20 pounds and I carry it well but I HATE that my jeans are tight and I don't feel comfortable in my skin. Good luck! Hope I can encourage you.

Dietcoke: that's tough! I just got back from a rollerblade and EVERY hotdog vendor was out on the streets today because there's a baseball game on. Can you imagine what the city smells like? It was so hard to resist, even with the blades on as a very obvious reminder of what I'm supposed to be doing!

Short breaks are hard - I'm at school right now (summer classes) and I have to make sure I pack a lunch or dinner every day or I'll end up eating nonsense. I can't even trust myself at subway, their meatball subs are just too good....

I'm less than a block away from Taco Bell, Braums, Sonic, and Chicken Express. And at the next major intersection (where I work..less than a mile away) is every fast food restraunt known to man...or at least the popular ones: mcd's, burger king, long john silvers, pizza hut, subway, taco bueno, and more. I have been eating at subway, though, because I can get a footlong turkey sub for $5.50 (or $2.25 per sandwich) and eat half for lunch and the other for dinner. Plus, I only get 30 minutes for a lunch break at work so its really hard not to just run across the street and grab something. But I just weighed and I've lost 3 lbs!! And, I'm totally sore from doing those 'modified' pushups yesterday...who would have thought that girl pushups were so hard?!?! Anyway, have a great day!

Thanks dietcoke, I added you too!

I just looked at your sparkpage - I think it's great that you're a young wife. I don't know why so many people wait so long to get married when they know they've already found the one for them.

By the way, good luck giving up junk food. I hope in that respect you're not in a similar situation because I live downtown and smack next to a subway, mcdonald's, hot dog stands and pizza joints! Talk about needing will power

Hey everyone. I just found this group and would love to join in. I'm 20 and in my 3rd year of college. The first year I got to college I actually LOST 15 pounds because of severe depression. The weight (and more!) caught up with me when I started dating my current bf because I was suddenly happy enough to eat and not lie in bed all day. While it's nice to be over the depression, I'd love to lose the pounds I put back on after it, but this time in a healthy way.

Last year, I weight 150lbs and managed to get to about 123 by crash dieting. I maintained it for the most part but I've gotten really flabby over the last few months due to so much stress. Congratulations on getting married soon. I just eloped a couple of weeks ago. My husband is gonna be gone for the entire month of July so I really want to be "hot" when he gets back. I'm also trying to tan a bit as well so I don't look like a ghost. Anyway, as most of yall have noticed, tracking your food seriously helps you realize how much you are eating. I'm really happy that this site also helps you learn how balanced your diet is. I also need to be more healthy. Good luck everyone! Does anyone have any tips on simple exercise suggestions for walking/jogging..as in, keeping me motivated to do so?

Ok, in the last year and half, I have moved 2000 miles from home (for a boy and school), had the most stressful job, had the best academic year, and managed to gain 20 pounds. 20 pounds I worked so hard to lose in the first place. I am focusing on losing that weight (and more), training for my life time goal of finishing a marathon, and starting a new school. I am really glade that I found this group and hope we can encourage each other to the bigger picture. Thanks

Wow I just found this group and it's so perfect for me! I just finished with my undergrad and I managed to gain 35 pounds (yikes!) while in college. I'm trying to lose it now before I start law school. I hear a lot of people gain weight all over again because all they do is study so hopefully this group will motivate me to keep up with my diet and exercise plan.

Hey,
I just joined this site today. I am 21 and I didn't gain the freshman 15, but the junior 20! I got engaged in December, and I think that I gained a good bit of comfort weight. I'm getting married in less that a year, so I need help!! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.... *Amber*

Sosweet, I understand the dining hall frustration! My team goes together after practice, and everyone loads up their plates and we sit there for an hour or so... after dinner we go for cereal, or dessert, or pasta, or something. It's bad.
My advice: skip the buffet line and go straight to the salad bar so you don't even know what's in the line (if the setup works like that as it does for me).

Ahh, finally, the reason I joined Sparkpeople! I'm probably kind of unique in the fact that I was a 3-sport athlete my freshman year of college and yet still gained at least 10 pounds. Anyone else in that situation? I wanna lose it before sophomore year!
