Hi All, I just joined SP 12/9. I am going to be 40 in March. Oh my.....I have about 35 lbs to get rid of. I am exersizing & keeping track of the food I eat. I am actually eating so much more food now that I am eating healthy. I am enjoying it so much.

I love finding new healthy recipes that acually taste good. Thats is one of my hopes, that I can make health food that my family likes and lose weight and get healthy in the process. We some how became food critics over the years. Every thing we eat we pick apart about what could have made it better. So I love trying new things. I have found some great stuff on SP so far.

NADINE I saw you post about your group some where else on the board so thought I'd join. You are doing great on your weight loss. Keep at it and thanks for all the recipes. emoticon

Hi all, we did the turkey joes again last night. Love them! I started working 3rd shift for awhile so it is going to be a challenge to eat right. The sleep issue and eating issue's are big for me on this shift. I am going to go through some more recipes and find some crock pot ones. That should help me and my hubby survive the next few months. Hope you all have a blessed holiday if I don't get back in to talk to you!

Good for you for not falling to the temptation!

We had some in our kitchen last week. I broke down and ate one serving of cookies, petit four, and something else. After that overdose, I haven't wanted any since. They've been in our kitchen since last week and the bagels, etc are moldy. The person who brought them in walks past them & won't throw them away. emoticon

And, no I won't either because I don't like the people who put it there to begin with. LOL

I work at an Inn on the Oregon coast and a local restaurant just brought in a tray of fresh baked muffins, cookies, candy and whipped butter!
I put it in the back office (where I am right now) and I get off in 20 minutes. Thank Goodness! So far so good, I thought about it, but really not worth it!

Wow! I have NEVER liked vegetables, but in the last 3 years I have learned I like more than I thought. Last night I had my first baked sweet potato. I wrapped it in foil & baked it like a regular potato. I will never eat a regular potato (if I can help it) again! These sweet potatoes are yummy! I put 2 tsp. of Brummel & Brown & some Mrs. Dash on it and I made yummy sounds all through dinner!

Good evening everyone. Hope you're all doing well!

Its been a lazy weekend. We did some shopping. Cept I hate shopping on the weekends during this time. So, we're going to finish during the week.

I've found the wonton wrappers in a chinese fruit & vegetable store near me.

I've found a few of SP recipes that are quite high. Some I've had to tweak a bit.

Have a great night everyone!

Thanks, I will look for them. Spark, a while back posted a dessert that used them that sounded very delicious to me but was over 1800 calories. I was thinking of trying to make a home version with far less calories. If I ever do make it successfully, I will certainly add it to the dessert section on this part of the board (unless it is too complicated to make).

good question - i also tried looking for wonton wrappers (not sure if that's the right word) and couldn't find them and my shaw's has a really big "around the world" section too.
i DID find some wonton things in the tofu section but those don't seem like the normal kind?

I was looking at the South West Egg roll recipe. Where do you actually buy egg roll wrappers? I have never seen these in a store.

Same here, well stressed, so I did something really bad. Sent my son across the street to the chicken joint. Ordered fried shrimp, fish & crabsticks with fries. Only ate half of it, so that's better than I used to.

Thanks for starting this team NADINE127. I hope to be able to contribute recipes as I try them!

Welcome POLVORA & Ruthaw!

I loved, and still do, finding new recipes. It keeps me going. But, I've gotten lazy as to making new things. One thing making this team has done has made me remember all the ones I found that I wanted to try but didn't!

The holidays are such a hard time to try to lose. I'll be happy to maintain. So, just make sensible choices and don't beat yourself up if you slip too much. Hopefully, you'll find some things here to keep you on track.

Ruthaw, SP is a wonderful site. Sticking with this, and being honest with yourself, will keep you on track.

Looking forward to knowing both of you better! We all can do this.

Weighed in tonight, and gained .4. But, TOM is here, as well as an over-indulgent weekend, so I'm just glad it wasn't worse.

Now I'm eating dinner and watching the season finale of the biggest loser!

Have a great night everyone!

Hi, I just joined in after seeing your post elsewhere Nadine. I too like recipes that are easy with not hard to find ingridients that I know I will use over and over. I too stated doing a new recipe night after night until my kids begged me to stop and go back to some of the ones they liked. I've slowed down since but still try at least 1 or 2 new meals per week.

I've lost 50 lbs since I got serious about losing back in March of this year. I want to at least lose another 50 but seem to be stuck at my current weight going up and down a pound or 2. I know I need to get back on track and seem to do well all day only to go home and pig out for one reason or another. Never have had will power but did get motivation to lose the first 50 and now need to get it back to lose the other 50. I will have to take time to read through all your posts and get as many tips and recipes from you guys and hope to get back on track for good soon.

Thanks and I look forward to becoming familiar with all of you. P.S. I'm also a member of Slowcooking for Fast Lives. That is a great thread too for any of you interested.

I'm so glad you enjoyed them, I love em! Hmmm, don't think we bought any ground meat last night. I wasn't in the best mood. *sigh* When we go shopping again on Saturday, I'll pick some up and make it Sat night.

I think I'm going to call it an early night & go watch my soaps. Claim the tv before hubby gets in. Have a great night everyone!

Good evening, I did your turkey joes tonight and they were great. I had an eleven hour day so didn't want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I love them thank you! Late dinner but you have to do what you have to do. I just had cottage cheese and peaches with it and we called it a meal. Worked for us. I have tomorrow off so I hope to get some of my favorites on. Can't wait to try some more of yours. I know this one will get made weekely for awhile. We lost a member of our office and we are all trying to help with their hours. Makes for short nights! Talk later.

Hi & Welcome Lynn! Please look thru the threads and use any of the recipes you come across

Planning meals for the week worked great for me. I've gotten lazy doing it, but it really did keep me on track when I first started.

First you need to find foods that you like and are healthy. Just search the tracker for those things. And, add them. If you're using recipes not on SP (the ones here, off the net, or your own), you can add the recipes to your SP cookbook (on the Resources tab, bottom of page, there is a recipe calculator/cookbook). Then add the meal to your tracker.

I do the majority of my food tracking/meal planning using the Weight Watchers site. I'm not sure if SP has a "shopping list". But, once you add them to your tracker, then print out the recipes, so you have a list of ingredients.

I found it fun to plug foods in so I could have an idea of what I could eat. It was also totally surprising to see how many calories (points) the foods I usually ate were. The lightbulb comes on & you go, "Oh, thats why I'm the size I am!) I had cuban sandwiches, monte cristos, french fries, big macs, all kinds of stuff... and when you eat them daily, it's just like O M G!!!!

If you need any help, just ask!

Well, after looking through both magazines, I am not a fan of the magazine. I know many people are. I don't expect to like every recipe, but at least two from each magazine would be nice.

I'll look again when I get home (I left them home), but I may just cancel the subscription.

We did it! LOL grudgingly, very grudgingly. But, considering we did big shopping for Thanksgiving, and finished off just about everything that we had in the freezers since, we didn't even have the bare minimums. So, its done. Mostly. Still have to do big meat shopping this weekend, or BJs (sorta like Costco/Sams Club).

I just received two issues of Cooking Light and was going to post some recipes. HOWEVER, the nutritional info says one thing in the magazine, something else on SP, and a different point value in WW. I'll look thru them tonight and tomorrow, and see what I can come up with.

I have found that many SP recipes come to different figures in WW, and me being on WW, I tend to go with the WW points, cept if SP is higher, I might add on half the difference.

OK, I'm babbling. Have a good night & tomorrow everyone.

Happy Monday everyone!

NYC finds us back into the 40s & 50s this week. Thankfully, I didn't stash my lighter coats away.

This weekend was not the greatest food wise. After the OG on Friday night, Saturday hubby brought in jerk chicken w/peas & rice. I didn't pull off the skin. *shrug* Then last night, there was domino's. Two slices, cheezy bread and 5 buffalo wings.

Well, I'm going to stick to my WW points for the rest of the week and hope for the best.

Hope you all have a lovely day!

BUT, that gives me the chance to dig through these recipes and find some new things that I've yet to try that I'd wanted to and forgot about. emoticon

I'll let ya'll know what I choose and how it came out!

Sue, I use WW to keep track of my recipes as well. I've just been too lazy to copy them over to SP, even if SP gives you more nutritional info.

Keep an eye on both sites, I've copied some of SP recipes over between the two, and they give you different point values from the nutritional info here. I always go with the higher value, just to be on the safe side.

I made spaghetti and meatballs tonight and will post them in the pasta catagory. The sauce recipe is handed down from generation to generation on my husbands side. Go figure because they are German and I'm Swedish/Norweigien...lol...Hope you try them and like them. I used sparkpeople to get the information on the sauce and meatballs. We love it.

( edited to let you know that when I posted the recipe I saw that I had used WW site to get the information on the sauce and meatballs.)

i'm in CT and no real snow here either which is fine b y me. i have the week off between xmas and new years and i wouldn't mind some snow then when i don't have to travel if it does.

i agree - i have a bunch of recipes i've copied to my 'light" folder on my computer but haven't tried yet - i'll try to only share stuff i've tried and liked though! (i'm trying spark people's turkey sloppy joe's this week - if i like it i'll repost the link to it)

Welcome to the team Sue!

Can't wait to see some of your recipes! The one thing this has done besides me sharing is reminding me of things I've been wanting to try. I've gotten into that rut of the same old things and not looking for new stuff. But posting all these recipes its like starting again for me.

Wow, no snow yet? We haven't either besides a spritz in NYC. THank goodness. I do NOT emoticon snow!

Hi, thank you for starting this thread. I think it will be a great place to share recipes and enjoy some new ones. I have things I have to get done today but will start soon to share. My name is Sue and I live in Northwest Illinois just across the river from Iowa and about 2 miles south from the Wisc. boarder. We do not have snow yet but last week was Chilly! Talk to you all soon. Sue

Hi, Nicolezab & Welcome!

Congrats on your marriage! And for a husband who doesn't mind trying new things. My hubby doesn't either, but I knew with the kids I had to find stuff they didn't always think was "diet".

Some of my recipes will have quite a few items, but most are easily found in the supermarkets. And, I do alot of substitutions. I'm not big on fresh chives & scallions, etc. So I usually leave those out, unless its absolutely necessary.

I love that alfredo recipe, I'm going to definitely try that. We're big on pasta. I just can't be satisfied with a one-cup serving! LOL

hi there - love the idea of the team.
i like to cook and don't mind complicated recipes sometimes but many times it's so much nicer to just be able to cook something with only a few ingredients.

i'm recently married and my husband will try most of my healthy things but he's OK cooking his own stuff if he doesn't want what i'm cooking.

I'm Nadine. Married for 21 years, just made 41 and I have two sons, 19 & 13. I live in NYC. I've been doing Weight Watchers since January, and am feeling so much better about myself.

One of the things that kept me going was finding new & fun things to cook that my family would enjoy.

While I stay on track with my food, I don't exercise the way that I should. I'm making it a point to improve that in 2007.
