Sure can be hard to stay on track & keep focused with all the ads on TV & magazines & driving through town with dozens upon dozens of fast food places & restaurants! And navigating grocery stores!

Gadfrey! I lost my old computer so we upgraded to a mini Dell 8.1. Yikes! I was so used to my old one & everything was so easy to find & maneuver! This one is a nightmare to me!
My honey is even spending his nights trying to find everything!
Oh well, they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Well, I refuse to be an old dog!!!

I got a few more plants yesterday. I think I have about enough. A sturdy cherry tomato & petunias, chocolate mint, a cuke. That should keep me really busy as I will have to cover them at night for a while yet.
The gal at the nursery gave me a few jerusalem artichokes to plant & I bought a small container too. That should be plenty for a start with them.
I've never tried them but I read & heard that they are more nutritious than a potato & easy to grow. Oh, I got 2 chili peppers too. Another thing that is really healthy that I know nothing about eating! I got an Anaheim & a big jim. Hopefully not too full of heat.

It rained yesterday & cloudy today & breezy. Good for all plants I potted & onions in the ground & pots. Today I want to go to Home Depot & Walmart to look for a chocolate mint & a cherry tomato plant & some miracle grow dirt. Then all I have left to pot is a basil & some jerusalem artichokes. That should be plenty to take care of right near my front door! Easier to keep an eye on too!

Those notorious March winds. They can sure be troublesome!
I have spring fever. I got a lot of plants the past week & have been repotting them. I am even trying a lettuce. Artichokes which ground squirrels got some years back. I'm putting these two in big containers right near my house with high hopes! However, I know those darn rodents are sneaky! I got 9 pansies. My favorite!
Tarragon, parsley, rosemary also. I'm still hunting for chocolate & pineapple mint. I will probably have more freezing weather coming & will have to remain alert & cover some of these more fragile ones.
I love spring! emoticon

Feeling better and am definitely hungry. Managed to eat on program, even while not feeling great so I feel good about that,

Hope you are having beautiful, spring weather. Mine is nice, but going to turn very breezy this afternoon. Need to get my walk in before the March winds start up ; )

I take a tsp or so of organic vinegar a day. Seems to keep the bugs away. Some people can't stand it though & would rather deal with the bugs!
I hope you get better soon.

I am disabled and on a fixed income. Just like for everyone else, life gets more challenging. I HATE to waste food, but with my health that sometimes happens. Like today, I'm in the second day of a stomach bug. Have some things that need to be cooked - can't re-freeze. Cooking's not happening. If I can't microwave it or just warm it on the stove, it's not happening. Maybe later I'll feel a bit better.

Hi. I love Jennio Turkey bacon & ham. Jennio turkey products in general.
I can't remember the name of the turkey Kielbasa right now but I get it at Wal-mart.
I know, I went to Winco grocery store last night to buy nuts and trail mix out of their bins & was shocked at the price jump since I bought there 3 or 4 weeks ago!
And the meat hikes have been hitting me for a while now. Everything is getting so high I wonder what folks on a fixed income or low income are gonig to do.
I guess we weather it like our parents & grandparents did.
Have a great day. I hope everyone had a great St Patrick's Day.

We sort of hit on the same idea. I'm making Colcannon - Irish mashed potatoes, but with less butter and cream than it might normally have. Mashed potatoes with cooked cabbage (cut in thin strips) 2:1 ratio of potatoes to cabbage; butter, milk and scallions. I like the bacon bits idea. I'll have to use sweet onion as I forgot the scallions and I refuse to go back to Wally World for a few days. Everyone have a great day!

The original Irish meal was boiled bacon. You could center on cabbage & a red potato or 2 with skins on (more nutricious + fiber) and some bacon bits. I add psyllium to a lot of dishes now for xtra fiber.
Whatever you all have ..........enjoy the day. I'm having the American Irish version with Corned beef & cabbage & potatoes but I do add carrots & onion. I might even add beans to keep corned beef servings smaller but still enjoying the flavor with the added beans.
I add xtra veggies to a lot of dishes now.

Cool. Enjoy. I have a Fitbit One. I like it but can't read it in daylight. That is an annoyance.
I liked my Fitbit Zip better for an easy read.
I lose this one I will get a Sparks tracker as I understand that they can fit on you shoe & are waterpoof.

Yes, gorgeous day here too. I volunteer every Saturday up in the pines at a thrift store. Beautiful day & warm. Busy day there. Lots of donations due to spring cleaning.
Now I'm tired. We are supposed to go out to eat.
Sounds like a good idea planning portions. I wish I could just eat what I'm supposed to but this past week was not good. I got on a bread kick! Too much!
Yesterday was crackers!
Oh well, hopefully I will get it out of my system & get back on track. I discovered the frozen veggies with sauce by Green Giant is pretty good & low in calories. Yum!

I'll pull up a chair here ; )

My two dogs that are not ill are driving me crazy today. It's beautiful outside - sunny, mid-50[s - and they have decided to work the 'we get treats when we go out and come back in.' They're going to get a surprise next time in.

Living by myself, people-wise, I am trying to cook 2-4 portions at a time and have some for the next day or so and something to freeze. I love to cook when I feel up to it. I'm trying to get some healthy pre-bought backups for when I don't feel like cooking.

; )

Well hello there. This poor Round Table just doesn't seem to be visited. I feel all alone here!
But...since last note on here I have 2 Orpinton's now. Anne & Elizabeth. So, Matilda isn't alone now. They are nice chickens, black with blue highlights & quiet fluffy & heavier bodied than Road Islands. They eat more though! Seems like they are eating from morning until night! Even ate all my mint down to the ground! So, not sure they are cost effective for those eggs but sweet chickens. My finger is still back & blue from hitting it with the hammer. I'll be glad when that is gone. Windy here. With some massive gusts.
Have a good day.

Wind came up last night & made a mess of things outside!! I had it all neat yesterday! So, first thing this morning I'm out straightening up again!
Moved my remaining chicken to another coop after bobcat visited & tore a hole at top of 10' high shade cover plus tarp!!
I worked on other coop getting it bobcat proofed at the expense of a hammered fingernail! This one is all wire now. Now way anything can get in unless it digs! I'm putting a motion light on it today also.
Then I will hunt for a couple more chickens to keep my poor Matilda company!

My injured shoulder is getting better. Now to remember I need to take care of my joints instead of over-working them! No fun these past 10-11 days!
Doc took me off meds so that makes me very happy as they upset my stomach & a few other disagreeable side-effects!
So, a new day! I'm working in a nice walk in today! Yippee!!

I got to go on an outing yesterday to Anaheim & we visited my other half's daughter & then on to Rancho Cucamonga to find boots at Bass Pro Shop. We ate at their restaurant & it was delicious. I got some nice camos that are comfy, water proof & not too heavy with good traction for my hiking. I also tried on another brown pair that I liked a lot too but maybe Santa will remember me! : ) They are called SHE.

I've tried every waffle maker known to man & made a mess of each one! Sticking horribly & having to clean them up! Never a decent waffle. Well, my friend gave me a single Belgian waffle maker yesterday & swore it would work. Just spray it with pam she says! Well, I got up the courage to search for a waffle recipe & made a wheat recipe & the iron was heating the whole time! (part of the problem before I think, altho I even used the ones that the light turned green when it was supposedly cooked through & it still tore apart & sticking everywhere!)
And wallah! A perfect waffle after cooking for 4 minutes. Each one I made was perfection! I'm so thrilled that after ALL these years I can now fix Belgian Waffles. Yippee!

This time around (& I've been around a bit) it seems easier! Is it because I finally "get it"?
My hubby is on board this time. He is my heigth & when he weighed he was dismayed! 227!
Wow! I gained a lot back too! We decided to work together. So, he has lost 18 since middle of July & I've lost 15. So easy! We just don't have 2nd helpings & we consume fish in 3 or more meals a week. Dessert most nights consist of 1 or 2 normal sized servings ...not gigantic! Not half a carton of icecream per serving like before!
We are not deprived. We are not craving anything. So easy! Why couldn't it be this easy before?
Mind over matter. It's in our heads! We think "diet" and oh my! It's means one is eating celery & cottage cheese. And a lot of times it is! Not this time. Just cut back & wallah! The weight comes off! Easy! It also helps to have your partner on board! We support each other! Much nicer this way! And I'm not knocking celery & cottage cheese. We eat that too but not by itself. Balance.
All things in moderation.
Woo hoo!

Well, no rain the other day. It decided to stay over to the East of us. Hot though! Whew! Muggy.
Today is overcast. 50% chance of rain from the Baja storm yet.
Paul & I are kicking it with our joint venture to lose weight! We are hanging in there and to see him making better choices when we are off the hill warms my heart! Usually it will be Carl's dble burger & fries & I get the turkey burger. Or breakfast will be hash browns, eggs, pancakes & toast!!!
Now he see's how wrong choices don't work to get that scale moving the right way! Yesterday he took us to Baja Fresh for fish tacos! What a guy!!! I'm so proud of him. 13.6 lbs gone now!!!

It's working. Didn't gain! However, I've decided to switch my main walking to 1 hour first thing in the morning. Then a shorter walk in late evening. Works better that way.

It's sure warming up. Forcing myself to walk at least 1 hour in the late afternoon when it cools off! I won't have gained a pound next weeks weigh in!

Well, I walked yeseterday but then ate too much rice! So, today I intend to try harder to abstain from too much carbs, starch.

It was hard yesterday. I wanted to munch. I didn't go too overboard but today I'm drinking more. Especially when i think I'm hungry. I'll drink something first.

So far....so good! I have raw almonds in the house though....that is tough to just eat a small handful. They are like Lays Potato chips...you can't eat just one! Nor, just 10!!! They are 70 calories for 10, so it adds up fast if you have several handfuls!

Trying to turn my obsession with food into a healthy obsession. Plan tasty meals/snacks that satisfy yet are filling but reasonable stats at the end of the day.

Another day but 1.2lbs lost this week! Yippee! My honey lost 5.4lbs this week...woo hoo!
He gave up having 2nd's & eats more fruit now. He is eating whole wheat pancakes right now for breakfast. Of course I added slivered almonds, cranberries, raisins, etc.

Don't you hate finishing a book in a series that is a favorite? It seems so bittersweet to finish it knowing you won't get to read another one for a year or more!

We went to a $50 a plate dinner last night. theme "From Farm to Table". Nice outing. We came home hungry. We had popcorn & Paul ate fruit, yogurt! I went to bed so I wouldn't be tempted to eat more!
We've been hungry a lot this week! Cutting back is a big trial! Eating sensibly is possible but it seems like lately we dream of bags of chips, icecream, a huge baked potato, lol
To cut the hunger I try to eat a few almonds but I want to eat a cupful! sigh...it will get easier! I'm so determined!

Weight! So easy to put on the older one gets & sooooooo hard to get back off! I'm struggling with it but even though I only lost 4 ounces this week.....I'm moving on with the battle! It takes so little to lose the fight in 1 meal. Like being invited to a birthday at a pizza house! 2 slices of pizza emoticon & a serving of ice cream cake & I wanted 3 pieces of pizza & 2 serving of cake!!! My hubby....succumbed to 3 slices & he ate the cake that was sent home wih us too!!. Yes, he gained 1.6 lbs this week! Bless his heart! He struggles terribly with the "sweet-tooth" I need to get back to the grocers & get us more fruit! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've been fretting & stewing over the Mt.Fire not 10 or 12 miles from here as the crow flies. It is so close to Idyllwild. 2.5 miles & that is too close.
Prayers for our firefighters as that is rugged country over there.

My friend is taking me to Pala Casino in San Diego Co. to celebrate my birthday.
My brother just called a bit ago to wish me a Happy Day & say he is glad he's not as old!!!
(His B'day is the 30th & he's 10 yrs older)
I'm hungry for seafood so I'm hoping there is shrimp on the buffet table.
I'm try to enjoy the dessert table too much!

Good morning. Just got word that the thrift where I volunteer Saturdays is only open until 12:30 today due to a wedding at the church. They will need the parking lot we share. So, that is nice. My knees will be happy since I took my 3 dogs on a rugged hike yesterday that my legs & back are complaining about today! I think I will stop playing mountain goat for the next few weeks now & walk on flatter paths.
Everything is wet outside this morning like a heavy marine last night.
