Russ, I found Day 1 to be absolutely horrid! I had a headache, felt foggy-headed and just generally awful. I was a 6 cup a day coffee drinker so you can imagine! I had to drink 2 cups of black tea the first day to get through it.

Day 2 was better, and by Day 3 I felt fine again with no coffee! Now I have 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning only. I'm so glad I kicked the habit! Don't exercise the first 3 days, just be lazy. Ha, ha!

Thanks so much for the replies - its awesome having this support. I'm over half way done with Day 1 and am tired (but usually am on a Monday so I'm not sure if its worse). Exercise is what I'm having the hardest time with - I'm stressing BIG time about not being able to exercise (I aim to burn 3300 calories a week according to my HRM). I'm going to take today off and try not to stress about it so much. Will keep you all posted.

Russ, my tracker should be public so you can view it. I've tracked (not all days) and I have a lot of the recipes in the Spark Tracker. Bfast is usually between the high 300's to 500 calories just depending on what I eat. Flax is around 450 total for sure. Prior to the plan I was restricting myself to 1200-1400 calories like Spark and all the other programs suggest. On TP I'm eating 1700, 2000, 2200 calories a day. My biggest losses come on days with about 2000 calories. I'm losing 1-2 lbs daily when I'm on track.

Russ, the flax granola with 1 cup coconut Silk drink was 491 calories and 29 grams of fat.

Don't be put off by the calories and fat on the Plan. It is way different than Spark recommends, I find it averages out about 1200-1400 calories, with 50% fat, 20% protein, and 30% carbs. That's what mine is anyway. But it is mostly good fat with the exception of the cheeses, and I only eat 1 ounce of cheese daily.

The important thing is, it works! My doctor told me a while back if I wanted to lose some weight to add more good fats to my diet. I thought he was crazy, but not any more.

I couldn't lose anything even with a low cal diet with the recommended 50% carb, 30% fat and 20% protein that Spark recommends. From Jan. 1 to May 1 I had lost a grand total of 2.2 pounds. On the Plan, I have lost 4.5 pounds from May 1 to today. In 20 days! Unbelievable! I think bread was my culprit; I can't pass it.

Russ, not aware of anyone other than Columbia Bakery selling "real" flax granola. The stuff I've seen in stores is full of other ingredients. They just happened to have thrown some flax in there. It's really easy to make yourself. You're going to be doing a fair bit of cooking on TP, so to make your own flax granola just isnt a big deal.

Does anyone know if there is another brand of flax granola we can use on days 1-3? I know Whole Foods has some....just wondering if anyone has tried something other than the brand that costs a ton of money or the homemade version. Thanks!

Don't get to stuck on using everything the way it's written. I didn't do the carrot soup I did the brocolli ( i am down 10.2 lbs in a week). If you soak the flax like 36 hours it seems to not be slimy. If you don't want to eat the carrot beet salad you can have a mixed green salad. ( I hate carrots and beets so I haven't eaten either). Good Luck!

Today is official day 1 for me, though last week I did try some of the recipes.

I did make a mistake and had 1/2 avocado on my salad instead of 1/4 (thyroid menu)...I saw the 1/2 pear and just didn't look closely enough at the avocado. Kind of bummed because i was hoping to do this bang on.

Can't stand the texture of the flax granola.,...but I can choke it down.

Don't mind the soup either.

LOVED the sauteed Kale and the coco sauce.

Didn't bother making the carrot/beet salad because I was so sick of carrots by that point.

Nervous to eat rice tomorrow, as to me its a carb I have always avoided...will be interesting to see if it has ill effects on the scale.

emoticon Seven and Jen... They say day one is the roughest for detox. It doesn't help if you are not a fan of certain foods like each of you are. Everyone's taste buds are different for sure. I loved each of the meals... The soup, I added lots of fresh ginger and extra cumin and Cinnomin to help with the taste.

It is a great relief to find two others who started THE PLAN on the same day. It is difficult to start something when you are the only one around you doing it.

Keep working THE PLAN... emoticon

emoticon Jen & Tricia! I did Day 1 yesterday also. I thought the flax cereal was ok- I had Rice Dream with it. Lunch was good- I liked the salad and broccoli. The soup, not as much. Dinner wasn't all that great to me. The Kale, mushroom, and Coco Sauce were ok, but the beet/carrot salad was awful. I tried to help it with a bit of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon, and managed to get it down with a shudder toward the end! emoticon

However, the pay-off was huge today, as I dropped -5.5 Lbs. That was an awesome reward. I had a headache most of the day, but have been experiencing that even prior to the Plan (allergies? The pollen is high here right now.) I did crash at 4 pm for a 2 hour nap, and didn't feel like preparing or eating the dinner, but obviously, I did! Finished my water at 7:37! It was actually hard not to drink more after that- my mouth was dry.

Ok, onward to Day 2! All the best to everyone! My flax awaits! emoticon

Day 1 down! So I did not have a problem with the food or drinking the water. Then around 4pm - BOOM! The real detox began. Migraine, chills/sweats, threw up once, and considered ordering twelve pizzas just so the pain would stop! ha!
Felt better in a couple of hours but totally skipped dinner. My stomach was having none of it! I'm a coffee and sugar addict so I was not surprised.
Felt totally better this morning. I lost 2.6 pounds. The Flax seed granola is not as charming or tasty as it was yesterday, but I can endure! Since I have a goal (better health), I can soldier on.

I have been reading the book and researching on line to ensure that when I start TP I do it right...so, I started yesterday and on a weekend that I knew I wasn't going to have huge demands on me just in case the detox symptoms were severe.

I loved the day one food, had no problem with drinking the required water. I did feel tired and lethargic yesterday... Woke up this morning with a headache AND I lost 2.8 lbs. so far so good... It will be more difficult when I add foods as I am sure I have many foods I will be reactive to.

Thus far I am glad I found THE PLAN.

Helo all! I've been on the plan for almost two weeks and I'm really enjoying it. Like one of the gals husband here I too had horrible gas cramps the first day and yes Mandi I was drinking all my water. I was also very lethargic the first day, I could hardly keep my eyes open all day at work. For anyone starting TP I suggest starting on a weekend so you are not at work and dealing with detox symptoms.

The second day got better, less cramping, less lethargic but a bit of a headache. The third day I was still improving and by the fourth day I felt great.

I lost a total of 2.8 for the first 3 days. I don't need to lose much weight so for me this is more a test of what foods react with my body.

Began drinking the water & taking my basal temp each morning since 4/4--nothing else. I lost SEVEN pounds in only 3 days. Totally unexpected result, but welcome nonetheless. I have been taking milk thistle & dandelion root, MSM & kelp as well. I bought a rebounder to help flush the lymph glands & liver. I've maintained the initial 7 lb loss.

Today was DAY ONE of The Plan--other than the fact that beets (even peeled) taste like DIRT (literally) the hardest thing for me is not drinking anything with meals or after 7:30 at night. (Usually, I keep a bottle of water on my nightstand & take a few swallows during the night.) I'm trying to control severe GERD, so it helps to remember that when I wake up and feel so parched.

Good luck, Janet! Hope you get the correct information from the book and Lyn-Genet's website & FB--Woman's World took creative license! emoticon

Starting today! I did a "pre-plan" cleanse two weeks ago and loved the result, 4 lbs lost. Then I resumed my "normal" bad diet and ordered the book. So glad I did because it is so much more informative than the article I discovered the Plan was.
Finished Day 1, down 2 pounds and I had trouble eating all the food! Tried to find the Carrot Ginger soup in the food tracker and there were too many that were different so I just picked the "average" caloried/serving available. Any suggestions as to which one to input?

Greetings, I am going to stat TP this coming Saturday. After reading the book twice I made some of the meals just to get a feel for what I will be actually eating on TP... On the trial day I had severe detox symptoms so I know for me I have to start TP on the weekend when I don't have other plans. I am glad I found this discussion board... I have read all of the comments which will help me when I start on Saturday. It is fantastic to see great results from those here who have already started the plan. Any advice is welcome!

I barely made it through day 1!

The trick to the flax is to cook it until it's dry. Instead of turning it with a spatula I broke it and moved it around with my fingers which allowed me to feel if it was still damp. It took 2 hours at 300 degrees to dry out. I find it delicious and need a full cup of coconut milk to eat it. If yours is slimy then it needed to cook longer.

Lunch was okay. I had too much ginger in my soup and could barely get it down. I just steamed up some more carrots to puree and add too it, I also added a 1/2 can of coconut milk to the full batch today and blended it all together. Seems to have fixed it, I would have hated to waste it. I added some of the orange oil to my salad.

By dinner I was in terrible shape. Dinner was horrible! I choked on the Kale and mushrooms (texture issue not taste) and I'm looking forward to having it with rice tonight. I will also try heating it up differently based on comments from a friend.

At the end of the day I was miserable, had a horrible headache and combined with stress of watching the events in Boston I just couldn't handle it and headed for non plan food and self sabotage. I went to bed hours earlier than normal feeling defeated but woke up refreshed this morning and 2lbs lighter. On to day 2!

Carrot Ginger soup fixed up, brown rice cooking in the oven and I will make broccoli soup later today.

Anyone have any trouble with stomach pain after eating the flax granola? My husband started today, and he says his belly has been painful ever since he ate the granola. He never has gas or bloating and rarely has digestive distress of any sort.

Can anyone tell me if I eat the rice milk on the granola or separately? I find the book to be difficult to find information in - even more difficult because it is an e-book I am using.

Well I have completed Day 1 of the Plan. Breakfast and lunch were fine, but I found the kale nauseating. I have never had it before so maybe I cooked it wrong. Anyway, I went to bed at 8pm as I felt dreadful, then woke at 1am with the worst headache I have had otuside of a hangover ever. I also felt queasy and my face was dripping with sweat. TMI Alert - after a BM i felt a bit better, and got back to sleep after while - 11 1/2 hours sleep by my Fitbit, and down 2.25lbs this morning. I still feel headachy and nauseous, need to go and eat breakfast. Obviously I needed the detox! I haven't been able to find shi'itake mushrooms here in New Zealand, it took me 4 veges shops to find kale! I have tracked down salt-free potato ships, they are about 6 times more expensive than normal ones. Looking forward to Day 4....

I'm starting on Monday. Went to the store today and bought all the food. Its pretty expensive. I spent almost $80. Tomorrow I'll follow the cooking plan she has on her site. not making the flax granola because flax doesn't agree with me.

Tayna- Tip on the flax....... add only enough liquid to make it damp. Don't add too much. I couldn't hardly choke it down BUT then I started putting less coconut milk in and it was SO much better.

Day 1 was OK, do not like the flax. Yucky. I was able to choke down about 1/4 cup, but the blueberries were great.

I drink a lot of water, but I was awash. I could not eat all the food and drink all the water. And I've worked so hard and so long for my stomach to be small that I just couldn't do it. Plus it was uncomfortable.

Hi, I'm on Day 4 and feeling so much better. Day 1 and 2 were hard. I had a caffeine withdraw headache and muscle aches and pain and constipation. Some of the food was unappetizing to me, but I ate it anyway. I didn't give up and my weight is down 3 pounds. That's amazingly fast compared to all my past weight losses. I'm sticking to it. It makes sense to me.

Hello all - reporting on Day 1. Great to see all the support and advice in here!

Day 1: -1 lb

Very happy with this as I've struggled to shift anything this last while (I'm about 10lbs over goal weight).

The food was fine, no digestive issues. The biggest change for me is the amount of water.

The first batch of flax granola stuck to the parchment baking sheet. Yep, bad idea. Also, I only let it soak for a few hours so it probably hadn't solidified enough. I can't soak it overnight as I don't have time to bake it in the morning.

The second time, I soaked it before going to work and baked it when I came back, on a ceramic dish. The worked very well, and it didn't stick. Added cranberries for some more flavour. Just sharing in case anyone else is having the same problem!

The Spicy Coconut is great - very tasty. The roast veg are pretty good too.

Had a headache during yesterday - probably caffeine withdrawal, though I only drink a cup or so a day. It's gone now - feel quite clear. Excited to see how this goes!

Hope you're all having a good week!

Yeah, I think most of us had those cleanse symptoms. For me, it lasted until Day 3. I woke up that morning and felt amazing, so stick it out! It's totally worth it!

Thanks, JAVAFLOWER!
I was still struggling with nausea so much today that I could barely eat lunch, so I cheated and have a few sips of coffee. Looks like I'm addicted to caffeine! Nausea is mostly gone and my headache has almost gone as well. I still don't feel back to normal, which I didn't expect, but at least now I can eat!

Welcom ICANEA!

Yes, many have had bad detox symptoms.
You can read more about that if you read through the posts for the first 3 or 4 days and in this thread about detox symptoms:
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=0x59023x517R>58645

and it is probably mentioned in other threads, as well.

The good news? It seems that people come out of the cleanse clearer and felling better than ever!

Hi everyone! So I'm not sure if more people have experienced a horrible day 1, but mine was BAD! By 11 am I already had tense shoulders/neck and the start of a really bad headache. By about 4pm I was so nauseous I couldn't even think about another vegetable. I tried to eat the veggies in spicy coco sauce (which looked good when I prepped them the day before), but after almost throwing up with one bite, I gave up. I had some herbal tea and went to bed.
I read that you could take some acetaminophen and drink double strength peppermint tea to help with the detox symptoms. Anyone else have these kind of symptoms? I'm afraid the same will happen to me today on Day 2, so I'm wondering if there is anything that can help.
Thanks!

Hey Heidi.. just thought I would mention this regarding your comment about Olive Oil adding up. I use a TON of O.O. in my cooking, and haven't stopped after being on the plan. Last night I cooked all three parts of my meal in it, and was down 1.6 pounds this morning. Yesterday was also the most food I've eaten in a single day since being on the plan. Those healthy fats really are good for you and crucial for weight loss. She reiterates in her book over and over not to worry about it and I think she's right.. less stress=more weight loss.

Thanks for that! Surprised your highest days are the first three.

I just made a bunch of the soups for the frist 4 days in advance. Lots of work, can't imagine how long it too you to make it and determine the nutritionals on it! Good for you. Really scared to eat more then 1200, but I guess I will know soon enough if I am gaining.

Thanks, again, and good luck with the rest of your journey!

You're welcome!

My SP calorie goal range is 1,250 - 1,600 calories per day, and the first five days on TP have run approximately 1,459, 1,797, 1,151, 1,370, 1,163.

I have not had any wine and I've only made a few substitutions.

Thanks for that! Can I ask how many calories you eat? If I do lose on the detox, I am going to track as well to see how many calories it comes up for me. She notes in the book that her range is around 1600 for women. I normally eat 1200-1300 as I am only 5 feet and have about 4-5 lbs. to lose (STUFFORN, I might ad!). However, she does say to stop when you are full so that can change things. If you are really listening to your body, I guess if you need it, you will eat. I am not very good at listening to my body (why I like strict calorie control) and can overeat on even the healthiest of foods, but we will see. She certainly seems to believe it isn't about calories so I will test.

Another thing I noticed is that a lot of people seem to think that you can eat as much (as long as you are hungry) of non-reactive foods. However, I did notice the end of the book where she does give general guidelines on how to structure you days to lose weight. She says most lose on only one dense carb per day, limited fruit, etc. Makes me wonder if that is why people lose. Sounds like a low carb diet, but I love that she does it with less animal protein. Okay, I digress. Thanks for the information.

Heidi,

as I said before, I have been putting in the foods as I normally would on SP and the calories have been IN, or pretty close to being in, my calorie range every day of TP so far (I am on Day 5.) The carbs and protein have been pretty close to being in my suggested range, as well. And I follow my potassium and magnesium for BP (blood pressure) reasons and those numbers are WONDERFUL on this plan!

Good Luck!

Getting the water amounts in each day takes concerted effort, and giving 45 minutes before and after each meal without water and no water after dinner. But it CAN be done!
