I hear you Sarah - I've only had a limited amount of online time lately, and I've been spending it here. That's what's best for me, though so until my new lifestyle changes become habit and I don't have to think about them so much, my blog will probably suffer.

Use a notebook! I've done that at times.

Otherwise, an author of Runner's World that my husband gets writes his articles by using a voice recorder. That might be a nice way to unburden your brain while exercising.

I've been so stressed recently that I've been hardly LJing at all. Yeesh!!

Excellent idea John! Unfortunately I don't have a PDA. As it is, I keep a small notebook lying around and jot down ideas when I'm stuck in traffic, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, though! Maybe I'll look into it - organization is a big challenge for me in general. Maybe a PDA would help (and replace the calendars and scraps of paper I currently use to "organize" my life).

Sagentus, do you have a PDA? If you really wanted to you could write your blog posts on a PDA while riding your stationary bike.

John that's a good point! I HAVE made SP my priority, though. I've logged on everyday to track my food and excercise, which has been a big help. I just need to learn to move through here faster (and after 30 days I'm am sort of getting a system down that works for me - now that I know my way around the site).

If only I could blog while riding my stupid stationary bike!

No I don't think I am in any danger of SP interfering with my blog but then again I just joined last last night. I use LJ but only really post once or twice a week and I have no plans on using the SP blogging features. Like others have said I don't want SP to result in me spending more time at the computer. I think the SP point limits are a good think like only getting credit for 5 message board posts a day which I plan on using as my daily limit to know when its time to push away so I can get done at the computer and start doing something else which hopefully burns more calories.

It's funny - I will post all kinds of true stories about my kids/family on my regular blog, but something about my weight-loss journey I feel is too private. It drives my daughter nuts (mostly because she is the fodder for many of my regular blog posts!!).

Heck yes! Partly because there's not much going on with me right now, but also... this is just what I'm interested in right now.

It's funny, because when I started my art blog (and I AM one of those people who keeps her blogs as separate as her peas and potatoes) I wasn't nearly as singularly focused on it.

I think some of it is... it's still so new feeling good about being in control of my diet. And I agree about it not being something I want to discuss with my friends. I mean... I know it's good that I'm getting this all under control, and I know they'll all be happy for me, but it's a bit embarrassing HAVING to get this under control, or having to work as hard as I do to get it under control.

That part of my journey, I just... would kind of rather that they never know about, in some ways. Let them see my successes instead...

It's the same kind of embarrassment that kept me from making my art blog public to my friends blog, at first. I'll probably cross over my sparkblog eventually, but first I want to get up my accomplishments and prove I can do it well...

Thanks! It took me most of last year (February through Thanksgiving) to reach my doctor-assigned goal weight of 140 lbs and I generally hover between that and 138. I made a lot of changes I can live with and I'm happy to say I've kept it off since Thanksgiving! I stick around because I like the food tracker and I like to be a cheerleader for everyone else. :)

I know what you mean, though, the more likely I am to deny myself the more like I am to make the mistake of overdoing it. I don't know if it was SP or just that right spot in my life, but I finally got it last year. That going out to eat didn't mean the low-fat salad but perhaps the grilled chicken... or maybe even the steak instead of the fried chicken.

:)

I am just like you when it comes to deprivation - I DON'T. I could never, and I mean NEVER do one of those low/no carb diets. I'd lose my mind. If I CAN'T have something - well, that's exactly what I want!

Also, WOW what a great job you have done in your quest to lose weight! It's tickers like yours that motivate me!

Eh, LJ isn't hard but it's certainly not for everyone. I switched to it when I realized I could have people read what I said. Talk about the ultimate in naval gazing! In the long run, it's whatever works for each of us... and especially so for weight loss/healthy living!

I mean, I have a different outlook than so many when it came to losing weight. I didn't want to give up eating what I loved but I wanted to learn to love to eat healthier foods - especially at restaurants! So many people advocate getting the small vanilla cone every time you go to Dairy Queen whereas I'll be the one saying "get the blizzard. Once. Get the cone next time." Thus, if SP blogging is what works for you and helps you stick to what you do, heck ya, ignore your other blog for it!! It's a tough journey but totally worthwhile in the end. :)

(And all I've blogged about in the past two days is harry potter. What else?! ;))

I'm too lazy to learn LJ! And I agree that I am also more accountable if I have an audience. I don't have one here at SP either compared to my regular blog, but I suppose that's OK with me. I am pretending like I do. I post here like I would on my regular blog (same personality - for better or worse I am still ME) with the exception being that I am trying to post here everyday like a journal. On my blog, if I don't have anything to say (other than mundane stuff), I don't post.

I don't edit on my SP blog like I do on my blog either. I can only imagine the grammatical and spelling errors that I have published here! Ack!

I guess that's the advantage of LJ: you can set up filters for who should read what. I find, personally, I'm more accountable if I know I have an audience. I don't have one here on SP and despite my attempts to post weekly, er, I kind of fail. :)

I used LJ for more than just posting accountability - I had people to cheer me on or encourage me when I got frustrated by the whole process. I figure now that hearing about maintaining isn't so interesting, so I've not been talking as much about it... perhaps I should. It is its own struggle!

It's funny - I post all kinds of stories about my family on my blog, but for some reason I feel like my personal weight struggles are almost too private to share on my blog.

That's why I really love the blog feature here at SP!

I don't keep mine separate either. I post about everything on my blog--I just apply categories. I just didn't take the time to blog or visit/read others for a while. I was too busy here on this site, learning and networking with others through the message boards and teams.

Nope. I like LJ and I created a series of filters when I talked about weight loss and healthy habits. In turn, I got a lot of people motivated to do the same and some joined SP.

Of course, I'm not one of those people who creates a separate blog for my knitting projects, either, so it might be a moot point. I like to keep it all in one place!

I think I'll try to work out some compromise of my time. Honestly, I should be spending LESS time on the computer and MORE time excercising - that's for sure!

Since my BAD habit is to read/watch TV and snack in BED, perhaps I'll write and edit - thus keeping my hands busy. I just HAVE to break that snacking before bed habit. That's when I lose control.

Yup. Last year when I first found SP I barely managed to post on my blog more than once a week--sometimes less. And my visits to other people's sites were cut WAY down.

I just went with it. How I was feeling about taking care of myself was worth it to me.

It has a lot. I have a big one on Myspace and then my largest to date is on LiveJournal and I rarely blog on there now unless I really don't want anybody else to see but even though I pay for the LiveJournal account, I rarely go on there now.

OK, I just found SP this past week thanks to a regular reader of my blog and of course, I am THRILLED!

My question to you fellow bloggers is this:

Do you find yourself spending more time updating and surfing here than you do on your regular blog or blogsurfing?

I ask because I have a couple of posts to put up on my blog that are only in the editing stages and yet I have been blissfully spending my time here on SP.

Yes, I know that my personal health and fitness goals are more important - that sort of goes without saying. But I am feeling a bit guilty about neglecting my blog this week and I was hoping you all could tell me if you have ever felt the same way - and how you have handled it?
