I hope no one minds that I joined the forum. I'm a 26 year old law graduate currently studying to take the bar. I have gained about 60 pounds in the last eight years since high school, and I know it's from the combination of poor eating and lack of exercise. I was also diagnosed with PCOS in 2011 and learned that that was part of the cause of my weight problem. Now that the PCOS is being managed with medication, I need to do the rest of the work to get the weight off.
As far as the bar, I actually took it for the first time in July 2012. I passed the Florida portion with flying colors, but my overall score was not high enough to pass. I missed the passing score by four points. This time, I'm only focusing on the MBE, which makes things SO much easier! I am 100% positive that my anxiety about the test and throughout studying last time impacted my scores. I know I can do it this time. It's certainly not for lack of effort or knowledge! I'm looking forward to the support I receive and supporting others.

Wow. You do have a lot going on. I can barely manage law let alone the stress of trying to conceive at the same time. What I do know from friends it that you may be surprised in the end. I had a friend trying all the procedures to conceive. It took about two years and the doctor finally found a fibroid they lover looked that was causing the problems. She conceived right away and avoid what would have been a third or fourth miscarraige. Life is uncertain. I wish you the best of luck.

I joined SparkPeople in August 2011, after I'd already lost most of my weight. I was in quasi-maintenance mode due to my father being in intensive care (for months), but wanted to stay on track and also was still trying to slowly lose the rest of my weight down to goal. (Finally reached goal the first week of December 2011. Spark has been a huge help both getting me the rest of the way to goal, and in maintaining my weight loss.
I became a lawyer in 2008, after a little over a decade in the tech industry. My husband decided to go to law school too and graduated in 2009. We are both litigators at large national firms in Washington, DC.
Our most recent challenge (in addition to constant stress and lack of sleep) is that after years of infertility we've finally decided to make a last-ditch effort (I'm 40 years old) and try IVF. We just finished our first cycle -- which unfortunately ended in a miscarriage. I'm working on losing the 16 pounds I gained (even though I didn't really change my eating much). 8 down, 8 to go on that front. Planning to start IVF cycle #2 in February, so I have a bit of a tight deadline to get the rest off... but I'm going to do my best.
Thanks for re-igniting this forum! I think as lawyers we face some unique challenges to getting and staying healthy, and it's great to have a place where we can come together and support each other.
I joined Sparkpeople in September 2012. Gooly sakes. So right! Tremendous stress.
Stress causes me to eat very little (less than 800 KCal). It turn out, that after over eating for years while home educating my children (no stress there), and gaining 80 pounds over 14 years, that I started UNDER eating. Thus: Starvation.
I became an attorney in 2006 (age 53), and after a short stint as a criminal defense attorney, I joined a prosecution office in a small county. Talk about stress!! No real mentor, 20+ hearings a week in juvenile court, and roughly 15 evidentiary hearings a week.
After four years at the gym, with little effect other than increased endurance and flexibility, I joined Sparkpeople and, within three months, lost 9 pounds. I did that by incrasing my calorie intake. That was counter-intuitive!
Anyway, I will happily participate in this Forum.

I am new to Spark People. Imagine my surprise when I saw there was a group for those of us in the legal profession. With the high rates of stress and substance abuse in the legal profession we need to have a support network to he us treat our bodies and minds well! I am a private criminal defense attorney running a solo practice after being a public defender for years. I need you to support me and I want to support you! I saw there was no active posting recently and the site actually suggested I check out other teams. No way! Let's get this party started once more. We give so much to others that we deserve to take care of ourselves as well! So calling all legal professionals... Let's reunite and kick ass and hopefully some fat while we are at it!
