Worth Chewing On. Drugstore mouth guards are worth trying if you grind your teeth.
The dentist's custom-made for nighttime tooth grinding is definitely better but
an over-the-counter mouth guard marketed specifically for bruxism (not a sport
guard) can work well, too. Try the boil and bite ones that allow some customization
of fit.

your celebration a little healthier while still feasting like the Irish. Cabbage
is a great choice. Steam it, cook it, or use it in a soup or as your wrap. If you
are eating corned beef, do so in moderation-its extremely high in fat and salt (one
3-oz portion contains 16g fat and 935 mg of sodium). Limit anything with green food
coloring and certainly if you drink, drink responsibly and in moderation.

A Hippy Move. Use this move to strengthen your hip flexors and improve your balance.
Stand with hands on hips (and use a wall or the back of a chair if you need something
to help you balance), lift right knee up until it is higher or parallel to the floor,
hold for 2 counts, then slowly send that knee out to the left, bring it back in
and then lower back down. Be sure to remain upright and don't lean forward or back.
Repeat 12 reps with your left leg and then switch to the right. Do 2 sets on each
side every other day.

out and half squat position) and hold for about 20 seconds. Next, roll onto the

Abs the Easy Way. Seated in your chair, lift your left elbow to shoulder level out in front and then take your right knee and tap it toward that elbow while really squeezing your abdominals. Get as close as you can to your elbow and touch it if you are able. Do 10 reps and repeat on the other side. Complete two more sets. Now, slide to the edge of your seat, sit up tall, shoulders back and down, and reach both hands to the back of your chair for a good stretch and posture adjustment.

Now slowly take your arms out to your sides while sending the lifted foot toward the back wall and leaning forward. See if you can get in to the airplane position. Hold. If you flex your foot, really extend that leg toward the back wall, engage your abs and find a spot on the floor to keep your focus, success will come much easier. Use a measuring cup so that you can see how big (or small) a half of a cup really is and count your pieces so you can learn how much is in a serving. One serving of pasta or rice is one-half cup. One serving of chicken or meat is just 3 ounces - that's half of a small chicken breast, 3 thin slices of deli meat and 7 medium shrimp.

A Berry Good Idea. For a berry fix in winter, head to the frozen food section. Even when stored for up to 4 months, frozen berries will retain almost all of their nutrients. Toss some frozen berries into a saucepan or microwave to warm up. Serve over nonfat yogurt and sprinkle on some raw nuts. Add a little grated lemon zest and you have a berry delicious morning meal or snack.

The type of calories you burn with exercise don't really matter. If you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. If you don't, you won't. Low-to-moderate intensity exercise can be sustained for longer periods than higher-intensity exercise, which burns more calories per minute. Base your exercise intensity on your goals, your fitness level, health status and how it makes you feel. Bottling a Formula. Here is a fun, easy exercise routine holding a water bottle in your hands. Hold the water bottle from the ends and place it at chest level. Keeping the knees and hips forward, contract (tighten) your abs and gently twist to the left as far as you comfortably can. Gently, twist back to center and twist to the left. Complete 10 reps (one on each side is one rep). Now, stretch your arms up over your head, straightening your arms. Gently bend left as far as you can, contracting the abs. Come back to center and now lean to the right. Complete 10 reps and repeat the series one more time.

Late Night Snack Attack? Find yourself eating again before bedtime? If you eat your way through the night (when you really aren't hungry) evaluate your reasons for eating-it's likely emotional. Find something else to keep your mind and hands busy-you can knit, read or put a photo album together. If you do eat dinner early and go to bed late, then you very likely could be hungry before bedtime. Here are few options to keep calories in check:
Have a small snack like an apple or yogurt when you get home and plan your dinners so that you eat later.
Save your dessert (piece of fruit) that you would normally have with dinner, for later.
Try going to bed earlier--8 hours of sleep gives you a mental edge to help control emotional eating any time of day.

Give Kids a Smile. February is National Children's Dental Health Month. Children should begin seeing a dentist within 6 months after the first permanent tooth breaks through. Dental checks prior to that are a part of the normal "well baby" check ups. From there, kids (and EVERYONE) should brush twice a day, floss at least once a day, avoid sugary foods and drinks, don't smoke, keep your lips and mouth free of piercings and schedule regular dental visits to ensure a long, healthy smile. Good oral care and visits to the dentist also keep your overall health in check.

Think Twice. Even if you have only had one alcoholic drink, think again before getting behind a wheel. Even though the blood alcohol limit is .08 in the U.S. (some countries are .03 Japan, .02 Sweden), even a .01 percent increases the risk of a potentially deadly crash, according to a study from the University of CA, San Diego published in the Addiction in September. One drink was found to impair drinking and the "slightly buzzed" were found to also speed and not wear their seat belts. Bottom Line: if you are drinking, you are better off not driving at all!

A Halftime Show. Plan a halftime activity during the Super Bowl game to get everyone up and moving. Try a broad jump game. Place a piece of tape on the floor and have everyone make a two-footed jump straight ahead. Entice challengers with a prize for the person with the longest jump (and not food). If necessary, have a separate game for males and females.

If you are a party host, let your guests fill up on veggies with low-fat dip, fruit kabobs, pretzels with mustard dip, hummus with pita chips, baked tortilla chips and salsa, sandwiches made with lean meats served on whole grain bread, and pizza loaded with sauce, vegetables and very little cheese. Roll Over. If you have tight glute muscles (your backside) you can do some self-therapy. Grab a tennis ball and lie on the floor. Place the ball between your backside and the floor and slowly roll around on the tennis ball. If you find a really tight spot, stop and let the ball sink into your muscle. Hold on that spot and as you exhale, breathe out visualizing the muscle relaxing and the tension releasing.

Make a Move. Weekends are an ideal time to ensure you get some much-needed exercise in and a better time to take it up a notch. Weave in some intervals or higher intensity bursts to your otherwise normal routine. For instance, if you walk, lift your knees higher towards your chin for about a minute, several times during your walk. If you jog, pick up the pace and run for short periods. If you do weights, don't pause between sets. Adding a degree of intensity will improve your cardiovascular (heart) strength.
