emoticon My 2nd day of 3:30 AM waking up… Again, I made it okay! emoticon

Good morning to everyone… This morning it is 50° here at my house… What a blessing!

I guess 3:30 AM is kind of early, but it takes me a little while to get my physical part going, and by the time I dress myself, get into the kitchen and make coffee, take all my pills, review lesson plans and grade papers, etc., then to my Sparking, it takes me just about to the time to start school. We are early risers and early morning people anyway, so we usually get out earlier at the end of the day.

I used to and still catch myself making many trips into the kitchen just to stare in the cabinets or open the icebox door and just wonder what I want to eat, crave, just can't do without, it's okay just this one time, and I had to think of something to give myself a good talking to about, so I came up with this:

"Just because we're in the kitchen, doesn't mean we have to eat!"
(© Paula's Thoughts)

I just had to tell myself that this morning! (LOL)

Have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

Paula emoticon

Turtle...I didn't even realize the Chat thread had a date on it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Paula, I homeschooled DD, but I sure didn't get up at 3:30AM to do it. She and I both did better in the afternoon, and since it doesn't take as long to teach 1 child as 30...we just started our classes after lunch.

Happy hump day to you Patricia!

Now, I'm off to start our 2014 Chat thread!

Hump day well I am going to hump my little self over to the library, it is a two mile walk but I sure enjoy it. I have three books on hold, one of them is "The Biggest Looser 16 Week Program" hoping that will tweak my program. I need some new exercises to do for my strength training that don't involve laying on the floor, don't like doing that. I got up early today and have done my strength training, doing that 3x a week

I don't mean any thing by it but shouldn't we start a new chat thread for 2014?

Good morning!

Ramona, now that you mention it, I'm all turned around as well, and keep forgetting things I have to do on certain days.

My dear Paula, what a journey you have had. Hats off to you for such bravery and positiveness. You are admirable! Your thoughts are wonderful and very uplifting. Please, keep 'em coming!! I love that you share them with us.

May you all have a happy hump day!

emoticon Good morning gang, emoticon

Well, I got up at 3:30 AM as I had predicted. It was not as difficult this first morning as I thought it would be.Tomorrow will be more questionable probably.I homeschool our 14-year-old grandson. He has lived with us since he was born.He came home with us from the hospital.I am physically disabled and unable to do any type of exercises much at all.In my four year journey towards the new me, I have been able to graduate from a wheelchair to using a walker and what a delight that is! I have been disabled since 2003.I was a nurse for 26 years at our County Hospital here in Fort Worth.I acquired a 12 inch blood clot in my leg and was on the heparin/Coumadin regimen for a year and then I had a bad coughing spell with my asthma one night and felt a hatchet hit me in the head.… This was my beginning.I had a brain hemorrhage which left me with a seizure disorder and left-sided weakness.Thank goodness I can still use my mind! ( LOL) I am unable to drive any longer due to my seizure disorder… Disappointing, but I know myself and the public are safer! (LOL) This does not slow down my excitement for life, it just puts a little bend in my road! emoticon

I hope all of you have as many successes as you can stand today. Here is a little thought that I have used along my journey that has given me some uplift, I hope you don't mind me sharing with you:

"Be like a cuckoo clock… Keep all your successes popping out at the right time!"

Have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

Hugs,

Paula, Hope the weather clears up enough for you to head out to school. I'd like to know what you teach, also...like Patricia.

AM, So sorry you came down with something. emoticon Hope it doesn't last too long, and hope the rest of the family stays well. Eat a lot of chicken soup when you can keep it down...it's supposed to be very good for what ails you! Where do you live in Texas? Paula lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I have an Aunt who lives in Garland, and cousins somewhere up there. Some good friends are getting ready to move to Fort Worth.

emoticon Patricia...I'm so glad your plan is working!

Turtle, what good news about DH. You are doing so well with your walking. So glad it warmed up so you can get out. We're supposed to be back up near 50* tomorrow (Wednesday), after a low of 27* tonight (Tuesday).

Wishing you all a Wonderful Wednesday. DD and I will be back on schedule with our respective Church activities...so I can start remembering what day it is. I get all turned around when there are Holidays!

Good morning Nilla!

How are things going Pattie?

Hope your PT is helping 2B!

Hubby's biopsy went well yesterday. The doctor said she could not see any thing. So we took that to be a good sign. She said she might have to do an other biopsy in a month or two if the other tests still show signs of cancer.
I went for a long walk today. I just walked and walked until I was so tired I had to take the bus home.

Hello dears!

I hope and wish you are all safe and warm in spite of such extreme weather.

I'm doing so good with the plan emoticon Whenever I feel the hunger is getting into the critical stage, I eat something with protein, carbs and good fat. Perfect! Thanks, Ramona emoticon
I'm glad you slept tight for 15 h.

Paula, what do you teach? Best wishes on your going back to school.

AM, sorry to hear about your tummy virus emoticon But as soon as you feel well, get out there on your exercise routine again. Let us know when you're back at the gym. Don't miss it!!! Problems are always boycotting us. Deal with them, but don't stop your exercise routine when possible, and go back to doing them ASAP. emoticon

Have a happy afternoon!

Good morning everyone.

Paula, it is still frigid here in Texas too. 23 degrees this morning. Love your thought for this morning. You do reep what you sow and positive goals included!

As Murphy's law would have it, I was on track and doing great until 130 yesterday and suddenly I got a stomach virus. I had to leave work and now I am stuck at home bonding with my bathroom. :( I missed my favorite exercise class yesterday and will miss another one today. I don't like it when I do that because it makes it so easy to talk myself out of going back.

Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great Tuesday!

emoticon Grand and glorious good morning to all of you… Ramona, Turtle, Patricia, AM and others who may still be asleep (LOL)! It is still a big Brrrrrrrrrrrrr here at my house in Texas… OH WAIT… We are in a heat wave this morning as our temperature reads 21°!
I have had to put on my hoodie jacket and this is my second 3-cup mug of hot steaming coffee… It tastes delicious plus it keeps my hands warm when I hold on to the mug, then I can alternate my hands while typing. emoticon

I hope everyone is enjoying the new year and are having enthusiasm and great successes. Here is a thought that I had this morning:

"Plant your seeds called GOALS and you'll harvest the results called SUCCESSES!"

Tomorrow begins, for us, school and so it will be harder or at least slower paced for me to be on the Spark and to chat with everyone that I would like to.I will begin my getting up at 3:30 AM Monday through Friday. This allows me time for paperwork, assignments, and grading.I want everyone to have a wonderful day and stay warm and cozy!

Have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

Hi all,

Talk about cold...it's 33* right now (6:21 pm) and going down to 23* tonight. I'm leaving at 6:30 to bring DD to a Church meeting...then going to Target to stay warm while waiting for her. That's a little tooooooo cold for me to walk or even sit in the car waiting!!!!

Well, I know all the articles say you can't make up sleep, but my body doesn't know that! I slept for almost 15 hours...and only got up then cause I needed to. Of course, I needed food too...a little shaky when I got up.

Patricia, I've got faith you're going to do great!

See you all when I get back. Gotta go! emoticon

Weather changing here too. We are still in the 60's but looks like we may get some rain. Day is really groomy out there not the kind of day I like to take a walk in. I did do my strength training and a ten minute walk to the bank. I also went out for lunch and did not get any thing high calorie just some turkey, steamed vegetables, whole wheat roll 1/4 cup mashed potatoes with a dab of gravy. I also went to the Goodwill and bought a top and two pairs ear rings. I have my new stuff on waiting for hubby to get home. He just called and said he is out shopping now. So I guess he is feeling okay after the biopsy.

Good morning and hugs to all of you.

Well, yesterday didn't went well -portion control- and I lost my sight of my hunger plans due to emotional distress. But today, I continue with it!

Thanks, Pattie. I'm very motivated with my new plan, but still am trying to do it a habit, which isn't easy when stressful situations strike.

Paula, you have beautiful inspirational thoughts. emoticon

AM, emoticon emoticon Great to have you here!! Nothing like a brand new start with a great plan emoticon emoticon emoticon

Turtle, my thoughts are with you and your DH. Best wishes. Please, keep us updated.

Dear Ramona, Turtle, Patricia, 2B, Nilla, and etc. ( to all of those whose names I may have missed)…

I've enjoyed reading the posts this morning and getting to know more and more about everyone.I am so thankful that I joined this team and look forward to great things and great friends in the months ahead.Yesterday I was thinking about the new year and my plans and goals and this thought came to my mind, and, if you don't mind, I would like to share it with you.

"I hope that everyone who is sick… Can get to feeling better.
I hope that everyone who is struggling… Can get back on track.
I hope that everyone who is feeling down… Can feel revived and uplifted.
I hope that everyone who is feeling lonely… Can feel the friendship that we share.
I hope that everyone who is feeling bored… Can begin to feel creative.
I hope that everyone who is feeling excited… Will pass it on!"

Good evening/night/morning, depending on where you live.

Welcome AM! Hope you'll feel right at home before too long. We really are a great group...even if I do say so myself! emoticon

Turtle...I've been praying for DH and you as you've been waiting for this test. Praying for your Peace while waiting for the results. Take a deep, calming breath whenever you feel stressed, and blow all those worries away. emoticon

Howdy Paula, Patricia, Pattie, 2B and Nilla. I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm fading fast. All the dogs went home today, so I should have a great night tonight.

I'll check in earlier tomorrow...

Wishing you all a Blizzard-Free Monday! emoticon

AM, like turtle said, it sounds like you've got a handle on moving forward. I'd suggest drink plenty of water, and get lots of protein, fruits and veggies. Good luck to you. Remember we're here if you need help or support. Oh, and we have a challenge running most of the time. Maybe check them out, too. There is a challenge chat thread to go with it. You can get to know the other members as related to the challenge. That can be helpful..

Turtle, my prayers are with you for your hubby. I know it's difficult to go through such things.

Hello, I am new to this team. I have been a part of Sparkpeople since 2007 but have drifted away. I need to lose 75lbs; and more than anything, I need support. Things on Spark have changed so much I am lost and am not even sure I am posting correctly on here. A brief intro about me, I have been married for 15 years and have 3 children, 3 dogs and a lizard. I have 13 yr and 10 yr old boys and an 8 yr old girl. I have been obese most of my adult life but not as a child or teen. I quit sodas in Oct 2007 and have only had 7up on occasions when I was sick. I gave up sugar June 2013 and have no plans of going back. I would like to give up flour but it has been very difficult as my family is very attached to it. I am a member of a gym where I do yoga fusion and dance aerobics 3 to 4 times a week. I have gotten away from logging my food but have decided to go back to it starting today. AM

We're having yet another wet day. I always have enough to do in the house to keep me occupied, but the pretty, sunny days are getting rare! I've been waiting for a decent day to go grocery shopping. I'm getting down to the dregs and that's dangerous. I need to get my supply of healthy foods in.

Patricia, I'm glad your new plan is working for you. It can make all the difference.

I don't really have much to talk about, so maybe I'll be back later to see what's going on.

Have a good day,
Pattie

Pattie, emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon on your weight loss!!

I'm following my hunger plan. This is my second day on target, within my calorie range with NO crankiness nor tremors.

Tomorrow is my hubby's birthday celebration emoticon at our home. I plan to be on target but I'll eat a bit of everything, portion control on practice. We'll see how it goes.

Ramona, you and I must have tuned our brains in to the same station. Your part 2 blog and the challenge I just put out go together perfectly.

It's the DIY Fitness Challenge. You can read all about it and set up your post in the challenges forum. It's really a no pressure challenge that really works, because YOU decide what will work for you! Go check it out.

Sorry I've been absent through the holidays. I get split in so many directions that posting in my teams fell through the cracks. Still, somehow, I managed to make it through the "food" months of November and December with an 8 pound net loss! WOOHOO! I plan on staying in TWOterville, unless someday I can leave and go to ONEderland. For now, I'm happy in TWOterville.

I'll be back later. Have a great day all of you Sparklers!
Pattie

But those pesky, but lovely, holidays are gone for another year and it's time to get down to business again. So, I hope to be much more present and keep up with what's going on with everyone.

Helloooooooo,

I am lactose intolerant, so I drink Almond milk. The original one is just 60 Calories for 8oz and has 45% of the daily calcium requirement. The vanilla flavor is 90 calories for 8oz and has 30% of the calcium requirement. I stick to the original one unless the store is out of it and I don't have time to go to the other Sav-A-Lot...which is the only place that carries the Coburn brand. I've tried other brands, and I like Coburn the best.

Happy to hear you're finally getting some help with that shoulder, 2B. PT didn't work for my neck, and I had to get an Epidural...but then, my problem is Stenosis in the neck.

Keep up that walking Turtle...

Wishing you luck with your new method of fighting that hunger Patricia.

One of the leaders of my other team (Over 60 with 100 - 200 pounds to lose) sent out an email with this article attached. It is very interesting, and has a video also. I think you'll all like it...

Wow, Ramona, thank you so much for such a wealth of information you gave me. You are my Spark Coach!! emoticon I think I'm past my hormone disorder, though I'm taking the HRT. Not blaming it, because this has happened to me every time I try to cut back on food. I think the key lies in quality rather than quantity. Excellent paragraphs!! Another key I found in one article was about waiting until the hunger is overboard. So I'm beginning from this moment to listen to my hunger and to eat good combination of foods. I'm very lazy at preparing foods so I stick with some junkies that are not filling me up properly... THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Paula, emoticon emoticon emoticon

We have waited for the New Year in the past but not anymore. We were sound asleep, didn't even hear a thing, and my neighbors said it was loud (lol).

Turtle, you got a great bargain on those shoes!! emoticon emoticon

2B, I haven't been able to tolerate any yet. And I think I've tried them all... At the end, the doctor told me to go for cheese, lactose free dairy stuff as much as I could.
I'm so happy you are finally going to get your PT!!! And emoticon CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss emoticon emoticon emoticon

OK, my dear friends, I'm heading to the blogs! Have a peaceful evening everyone.

I eat greek yogurt to get my calcium, love the stuff.

We are having such a dry warm winter that I can get out most every day for a walk or two. Have two planned for today. I love my walks and feel better after them. Yesterday I was trying to take a rest day and not take a walk but by 3:30 I could not stand it and took off for a walk. It was a short one only a mile but I felt so much better after I came home even though where I was going was Starbucks and it was not open. Just taking the walk made me feel so much better. I don't see me taking a non walking day any time soon.

Turtle...great job getting those bargains...and for having an 'in' with the sales people...so you get great service!

2B.....I use Nature Made - Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc. Been using it for years to keep from getting charlie horses...for about 45 years. I don't have any problems with it, but I don't have trouble with any of my pills.

Hubby and I went to bed at 7 to watch TV than he went outside to see the fireworks they set off at 9. They have built a highrise between here and where they set off the fireworks that we did not take note of so he was right back in. I was asleep by 9:30 he said and he was soon after. This morning he told me he could make breakfast better than me so no fight I let him!!!!
I bought new shoes to ring in the new year and new bathroom rugs this morning at the bargain store across the street. It is good to have it so handy and I go over there so often they know me by name. When I went over there the shoes were not out yet and they went in the back and got me a few to pick from. This afternoon when I went back almost all the shoes were sold. I had got a pair of Avia's For $19.99.

Hi Paula...we're happy to be your friend, and get to know you better, too.

The people who are bringing their dog today are heading for Fort Worth to house hunt. The man is going to be pastor at an Orthodox Church.

Well...I stayed up for naught! My 2 'babies' were sound asleep at midnight, and didn't hear a thing. Evidently, people ran out of firecrackers before midnight, cause it was relatively quiet around my house. I could hear the pops from the fireworks display on the river, but I didn't see anything.

My mom used to do the bang-the-pot thing. My dad was always sleeping by midnight. My DH is always sleeping long before midnight, too! There have been years when he 'stayed up' with me...meaning he was sleeping on the recliner, instead of in bed...

Wishing everyone a Goal Reaching 2014!

Ramona

Patricia, I know you read Nilla's blog...but for anyone else who wants to read it:

Turns out her MIL had a stroke. Her mother also needs our prayers.

Patricia...as far as your eating, and moods, and hunger...Do you make sure you get some protein and a little fat in each meal? I know if I just eat fruit I get hungry in a hurry...no matter how much I eat. If I eat 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with a little fruit it holds me a lot longer.

I just went searching and found this in the nutrition Q and A section.
****
Q
When I eat, I’m still hungry. What can I do?

A A lot of times, the main reason for a persistent appetite has to do with food quality rather than food quantity. Some examples of food choices that will leave you hungry:
• Eating junky carbs
• Not eating protein or enough protein
• Not eating complex carbs with a good dose of fiber
• Not eating enough fat

Concentrate on food quality and calorie distribution throughout the day. Try things like:
• Eat more calories during breakfast and lunch
• Have a good dose of protein with each meal
• Never eat carbs without protein
• Have some good fat at every meal
• Eat plenty of fiber
• Get some of that fiber from raw veggies (lots of chewing!)
• Drink plenty of water
• Have some protein and healthy fat, plus fiber with every meal, to provide satiety as well as slow the emptying time of the stomach.
• Try an apple and some nuts, or cheese and whole grain crackers.
• Start keeping a food diary of what you are eating. Note how much you eat and how you are feeling when you eat – is it true hunger, or is it related to boredom, depression, stress, anxiety, excitement, or fun? It may bring awareness to your eating habits.

Here's an article by IndyGirl with some suggestions:

Some articles that might help:

In this article: www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?po
st
=7_tips_for_controlling_your_hungersR>_on_and_off_switches

I found this paragraph that might have something to do with your problem...I'm way past this point in my life, but you may be having these problems:

"Manage Your Hormonal Surges. There will be times when you can’t always control your hormone levels; when ghrelin outslugs your leptin, and you feel hungrier than a lion on a bug-only diet. Develop a list of emergency foods to satisfy you when cravings get the best of you -- things like V8 juice, a handful of nuts, pieces of fruit, cut-up vegetables, or even a little guacamole."

This one is also interesting:

*****

Hope some of this helps.

PS...forgot this.

How are you sleeping? If I don't get enough sleep, I am ravenous the next day. I figure my body is trying to compensate in some way. On those days, I eat super small meals, maybe 8 - 10 during the day.

Good morning gang and Happy New Year for 2014!

Ramona, 2B, Turtle, Patricia…

I want to join in the toasting of the New Year and I'm holding up my coffee in one hand and my diet green tea in the other! emoticon

I will not be joining any gyms as I am too disabled to participate in any other activities.I am planning on doing some extra walking as time goes by.The hallway in my house is my "track" in the cold months. My DH bought me a grand walker several years ago and now I can sit in it when I need to plus put my handbag or something else beside me.It sure is a good feeling because the walker's max weight was 400 pounds.I weighed 380 pounds then.It has been four years that I have been on my journey to the new me and I hope this year is as successful as the previous ones.

My DH and I did not see the new year in, because we kept falling asleep in our lounge chairs, so we went on ahead and went to bed and let 2014 enter on its own.Our 14-year-old grandson saw it in while playing computer games with his buddies. This is the first year in a long list of years, that we have not stood out on our front porch and banged pots and pans together at the stroke of midnight! I'm sure our neighbors appreciated it! emoticon

Yes, I did stay within the lines while coloring, but, I am not quite finished with some of my designs! (Sounds like I'm some kind of artist… LOL) I will be finishing up my ledger today for the new year.We are going to be eating our usual "Southern good luck" dish of black-eyed peas with cornbread.I've got to watch it, although I need all of the luck that I can stand for this year. emoticon

Thank all of you for being my friends and I hope to get to know all of you better as we journey towards the new(er) us.

Have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

Hugs,
Paula emoticon

Don't we love when our hubbies spoil us?!! emoticon So happy for you, Turtle.

2B, cheers to that too emoticon

emoticon Ramona, emoticon on the Saints win!! The enthusiasm is getting hot emoticon Sounds like you are having a doggie busy Holiday. I love 'em (the doggies).

I need advice. Whenever I reduce my calorie intake, I get SUPER cranky which affects a lot my tolerance towards everything and everybody. If I eat small meals distributed during the day, they tend to increase my hunger feeling, not to dissipate it. The same is with drinking lots of fluids. I feel very hungry most of the time. Any recommendations in how to deal with this and get to drop some weight??

Have wonderful beginning of 2014.

Let me get my Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper...and I toast to that, too...

2B...I was at my aunt's house once on the 4th of July, and she insisted I had to have a mixed drink to toast the occasion...so I mixed coke and 7up! I have a feeling you're right about the gyms being crowded for a while. emoticon There are probably a lot of exercise machines, being used as clothes racks, that were bought on Jan.1st, too! emoticon

Three Cheers for Turtle's DH! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Patricia, forgot to tell you the Saints won this week, so they'll be a 'wild card' in the play offs leading to the Superbowl... emoticon ...oh wait...that's the wrong bowl... emoticon ...that's better!

Paula...hope you colored within the lines... emoticon

Hi Pattie...hope all is well...

Howdy Nilla!

Well, I think a lot of people got their time mixed up! We've been having fire crackers going off for hours...and it's still only 10:20... The dogs don't like all that noise. Had to try and get them out during a lull. They'll probably go nuts at midnight. We always have so many fireworks then, that the whole city smells like sulfur...and they are AGAINST the law in New Orleans...but then, who cares about the law any more???

DH took the 2 Maltese up to bed, and I'm holding down the fort with the Beagle and the Havanese. The Beagle (Rosie) can't climb the stairs...and is way too heavy to be carried up. The Havanese (Cloteile) runs up and down the stairs, but DH thinks having 2 in bed at a time is enough, so Cloteile is banished to her crate. Don't worry...the Maltese (Jazz and Mr. Tinker) are going home tomorrow, so Cloteile will have the bed for the rest of her stay.

Toby (mixed breed - Heinz 57 variety) is coming back tomorrow, but he always has strict orders to sleep in his crate.

Wishing you all a Wonderful, First-Day-Of-The-Year Wednesday! May we all have a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious 2014!

Well good morning emoticon from a beautiful but chilly DFW area of Texas and from a sad Alamo Bowl state… As I always say, Oh well… Next year! emoticon

Hello to 2B, Ramona, Patricia, Turtle, and a wonderful happy birthday to Turtle! emoticon

Thank all of you for the wonderful information about liquids in our diet. The articles that you sent were very informative and help me a lot.I will continue on in my way of liquid consumption and enjoy what I've been drinking. emoticon

Today I'm going to refine, and I think, I will even color some of my pages in my new ledger for 2014 to give me a little bit more inspiration even yet.It seems that I can hardly wait for the stroke of midnight to take place, because then I know one second later I'm on the "continuing of the new me journey" to continue on in my reaching my goals as set by my doctor and myself.I already Journal daily in the Planner section of Spark People but I'm looking forward to doing something different with my ledger that I will be using.I think that we would all agree that we have to keep it fresh and different sometimes in order to succeed and not get burnout. emoticon

I will close for now and continue working on the spark and look forward to seeing you "next year!" emoticon emoticon

Happy New Year and may all of you have a wonderful and blessed day in the journey to the new you! emoticon emoticon

Hugs,
Paula emoticon

Hi Nilla...been keeping up with you through your blogs, so I knew you weren't sick or anything worse...Hope you're ready for that wall squat challenge, I plan on making it to the end of this challenge with flying colors... emoticon

Paula, I read this article a while ago.
www.parade.com/109448/kenjennings/16
-k
en-jennings-because-i-said-so-parentR>ing-myths-christmas-story/

In the article, it states that all the things we have been taught are not necessarily true. One of those things is about the 8 glasses of water. Here is that section, if you don't want to read through the whole article.
5. “Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day.”
This was called the “8×8 rule” when I heard about it from my seventh grade home ec teacher, Mrs. Brown. Not milk; couldn’t be juice; had to be water. I protested that since all beverages were mostly water, surely they would count? “No!”

In 2002, a kidney specialist named Heinz Valtin, M.D., concluded this rule was an accident. Back in the 1940s, the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council recommended “one milliliter of water for each calorie of food.” A 1,900-calorie diet would indeed work out to about 64 ounces of water a day. But everyone seems to have forgotten the next sentence: “Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods.” That’s right, Mrs. Brown: Most of our water gets to us in non-water form. In fact, a National Institutes of Health doctor told the Los Angeles Times that a healthy adult in a temperate climate could replace his body’s daily water loss with food alone!

So what’s the right amount to drink? Whatever your thirst demands. And it doesn’t have to be water: The Center for Nutrition found that even supposedly “diuretic” beverages (like coffee, tea, and soda) provide almost all the hydration that water does.

As for me, I usually drink my 8+ glasses a day just because I'm thirsty. I also drink a cup of almond milk, and usually a diet drink. I don't like coffee or tea...but if I did, I'd drink those, too!

Hope this helps.

Turtle...I've been slacking off on my ST also. Have to get back to that. Can't afford to lose what little muscle I have!

Patricia...thanks for posting the link to that article. I know it says you should get most of your liquids from water, but I've known several relatively healthy people who never drank/drink water...my dad and my sister are 2 of them. My dad drank coffee (4 cups a day), iced tea2 glasses a day), whole milk (1 cup a day) and beer (2 to 3 cans a day). My sister lives on coffee and hot tea (drinks it constantly, all day long). I couldn't live like that, but it didn't seem to affect my dad...he was pretty healthy til the last few years of his life, and almost reached 93. My sister is never sick, and just turned 61. I'm not saying that's the best thing for weight loss...just stating the facts.

Wishing you all a Terrific, Year-Ending Tuesday! emoticon

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TURTLE! emoticon

Ramona I know what you mean about living on a low fixed income we are doing the same thing. I called my cell service today and told them to disconnect because I could not afford it and they cut my bill in half and paid for Jan.

Took a long walk today and did my strength training this morning. I am trying to get in to a routine of doing my strength training again I have been slacking off lately.

emoticon emoticon Howdy everybody!

I've been up from around 4:30 AM this morning just trying to get started for the day.It is in the 20's this morning here in my town in Texas and I'm wearing my hoodie jacket over my housecoat to stay warm.

I have a question or a thought and I want to send it out to all of you to get your ideas on what I should do:

For all of this time in my journey to the new me, I have had no problem in getting in all of my water.I also have included in my liquid intake, diet green tea.Now that I have a brand-new coffeepot, it seems as though I'm back on my coffee routine of drinking the first pot, 10 to 12 cups, by noon.My question is this… Does the black coffee and unsweet tea count towards liquid intake as the water does? I do make many trips to the bathroom and every time I go, I turn around and say "Thank you, Thank you".I do have electrolyte issues (they are always elevated) in with my other disability issues, but the doctor sees no problem in my intake of this many fluids. What is your ideas and thoughts on this… Please share what you think.

Have a blessed day and wonderful journey to the new you!

Paula emoticon

Good morning!! emoticon emoticon emoticon Sorry I've been MIA (missing in action). I've been off from work since Dec. 19th & when I'm home on leave, I have a tendency to be lazy, so I've been trying to move it, move it!

Hello Girls!

2B...about the YMCA. It wouldn't matter how much it is a month, it's still beyond our means. Living on a very limited income makes almost everything out of our means. If we have to choose between internet/cell phones and other things, the internet/cell phones win. (we don't have a home phone) We've cut back on everything else, like cable TV and restaurants...but we still have to pay the monthly bills. When things like homeowners insurance and property taxes come, we have to go into the savings...and they will only go so far.

We lost everything in Katrina, and had to start all over. Since we didn't have enough flood insurance (we weren't supposed to flood). So we started over with a 30 year mortgage. Then a few years later, DH lost his job (he was 60) and could never get another one. He had to take his Social Security at 62 so we could live. That along with his small retirement check from being in the Air Force reserves for 20 years doesn't go very far. We are blessed to have the military medical insurance, otherwise we'd be in big trouble. Now that DH is 65, he has Medicare, but that takes a chunk of money each month. I'm now getting my Social Security, but that $600 doesn't go very far, with everything going up in price. Living in New Orleans, our car insurance and house insurance and property tax is very high...

As far as you posting, we'll take whatever we can get. Take care of yourself...that's the important thing.

Sounds like you girls have things pretty well set for the coming year. I'm planning to chug along the way I've been doing...it's working pretty well. I will probably have to up the exercise. The less I have to lose, the harder it will get!

Wishing everyone a Marvelous Monday. Can you believe there are only 2 days left in 2013?

Paula, sounds like a good plan. Let us know how it works for you. I emoticon too.

Turtle, I need to go back to my eating-on-track too!! Once and for all. I gain 1 more lb. Little by little, I've been going up instead of down. My pants give me the signal of alert.

To all of you, have a delightful Sunday!
