Mornin' Cleo, Taking the edge off your hunger, before you go to any party, is always a good idea... We're much more in control, if we're not hungry to start with... Another strategy I use, is to keep a bottle or glass of water in my hand, it gives my hand and mouth something to do.

Yes, I've been there-done that, but I gotta tell ya; once you reach goal, you can't just stop... It's an ongoing mindfulness... A Lifestyle... But one we can live with. emoticon

Good Morning, Bringing my own yummy dish when I can is a good idea. I will also try eating before I go. That way I will not be so tempted by all the appetizers, chips etc. Portion control is one of my problems also so I will just have to try to eat mindfully when at parties and functions.

Thanks for the support. It is very reassuring to know that there are others out there who have gone or going through this too.

Cleo ~ Staying on track, during the holidays and such, can be a bit tricky sometimes... I usually try to have "legal" foods available, so I don't feel like I'm having to "do without"... If I'm going to a potluck, I'll bring something that I really enjoy, and can eat without guilt... That being said, however, if there's a particular dish that you love, allow yourself to have a little and savor every bite - without guilt, just don't let it derail you. Portion control is my biggest struggle.

Hen- Glad to hear you are doing well. How is it going with the Virgin Diet long term? I have been doing well but am a little concerned about lots of birthdays and holidays coming up. How do you cope with all the temptations that the upcoming season brings? Any advice?

Autumn is such a beautiful season, I agree with you though, too bad winter has to follow. Last year was so snowy, we are all hoping this winter won't be as bad. I guess time will tell.

Hi Cleo...

So glad to hear that you're doing so well... I hear ya on the weight coming off slower than it went on... It sure seems that way, doesn't it.

It's been very quiet on the Virgin Diet team, but I'm still hanging around, just in case someone posts.

Hope you've had a wonderful summer... I'm glad we're out of the triple digit numbers for this season, but I'm SOooo not ready for winter either!!! *LOL*

Take good care. Hen

HI all, I haven't been here for a while but still eating good healthy food and working on the elliptical 4 to 5 times a week. Took some time off and I went a little off the rails but I have been back on track for 3 weeks now and doing well.

Why is it that the weight goes off much slower than it goes on? One day of eating bad foods and I put on weight but it will take a week to get it back off. God must have a sense of humor.

Welcome Back Cleo!!! Glad everything is going well for you, after your surgery!!!

Yeah, I hear ya on the ice cream thing... I lost my mind and treated myself to a milkshake the other day, and now I've got a big zit on my chin!!! I KNOW I can't do dairy!!! emoticon Oh well, I'm back on track now, and that's the main thing.

It took a while but I finally feel recuperated from surgery. In the end I put on 4.2 lbs. Too much ice cream etc. Once I went off the diet I gave myself permission to go nuts. Big mistake. emoticon But now I am back and ready to go again. Today I am going to start exercising again with a short walk and each day hopefully I can add to that. emoticon

Glad to be back!
Hope all is well with everyone?

That program, through your work/insurance, sounds like a great idea!!! And they're PAYING you to do it!!!??? How cool is THAT!!!??? Logging exercise and tracking your food will be a big help - especially tracking your food, to help you discover your problem foods.

Keep me posted, I'm very interested as to how it all goes for ya!!!

Thanks Hen, I have managed to maintain over the past few weeks but I hate to plateau when it seems my journey has just begun. I have signed up for an incentive program though work/insurance. starting the 24 I will log in all my exercise time for 10 weeks and earn $75. Every week has a theme.
I will of course read through and then lol and ignore the nutritional advice that will be doled out.
I just started to use the sp food tracker regularly so that I can spy where/why plateaus seem to start. I think I had the digestive issues because i was using legumes too often and not enough rice.
It seems to be better when I try to balance the two through out the week.

Sorry to hear about your fall off the Virgin wagon, but at least you know how to climb back on... Don't let your tumble derail you from your healthy goal... We all slip up from time to time, but the important thing is don't give up. emoticon

I have fallen off the Virgin Wagon...lol....it happened the week i reintroduced eggs. I just couldn't deal with eating egg for four days and then getting rid of them again for the other 3 foods. I don't care if I ever eat soy again. And I ran out of almond butter and have dipped into the Peanut butter. I have had some butter and one day I tried half and half in the coffee and it tasted sour to me. so I am still eliminating the foods but occasionally
some wheat and sugar slips in. ...The good news is that my digestion had improved over the 21 days of course, bad new now its not so hot and because I didn't follow the re intro properly I have no clue what is causing the problem.
My only saving grace, is that I have been sticking to 1/2 cup servings of carbs no sweets no snacks just 3 square a day. Today I didn't eat enough only about 1000 calories according to what I tracked.
Breakfast was a non dairynon egg buckwheat pancake with virgin coconut oil on it
lunch smoked kipper snack with freshly roasted red pepper and avocado
dinner stirfry veggie shrimp and rice.

hello everyone

Had my surgery last week and now I am home and on the mend. i am still on bed rest only but I think today I will move downstairs to the couch. I think a positive attitude helps more than anything.

Best of all, I lost 5 pounds and thanks to the Virgin Diet, I know how to keep it off.

30 pounds in 4 months! Thank you J.J.Virgin and my Spark Team for all the support.

Hey Cleo!!! Yes, the cookbook is beautifully done... Those colored photos are really nice... Just wish they were with the recipe... I haven't tried any of the recipes, yet, but will most likely pick one for this weekend.

How ya been??? Did you have your TMJ surgery yet?

Hi SLBrad... Welcome!!!

There are various causes for leg cramps... First of all, I'd have to ask if you are getting enough water... Other possible causes could be low levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium... Have you been working out more than usual, or standing for prolonged periods of time??? If you answer no to these, I'd check with my doctor, to make sure there's not some medical issue going on.

Hello!! I am new to the Virgin Diet. I am on my second week and doing pretty good but I have been experiencing bad leg cramps lately. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Not sure if it is something I am lacking in my diet or if it is something else.

Good Morning and thank you Happy Hen. I went on their website and got lots of ideas. Recently I bought a Ninja and it will do the almost the same thing as the Vitamix so I think I may be ok. I am trying to look on the bright side of this surgery so I am hoping I will loose more weight faster if I cannot eat solid foods. If I stick with the Virgin Diet, I should not put the weight back on after my recovery. There is a silver lining to everything, we just have to find it. emoticon

Still loosing the weight and feeling good but facing an obstacle . In a few weeks I will be having TMJ replacement surgery and I have been told I will not be able to chew for 3 months. 3 MONTHS! I still want to remain on the Virgin Diet but I am sure I will get very tired of smoothies very quickly. I don't want to get into the ice cream and pudding routine. Any suggestions?

Thanks Arlo...

Yeah, some of those videos get to be a bit much sometimes... Thanks for posting the hotlink anyway... I've got time (I've got the creapin' crud), so I'll check it out... Can't do anything else.

My 3 day Green Smoothie Jump Start, is just something I started doing, quite awhile back, when I had strayed from the plan, and needed to get back on track... All I do is have 3 to 4 green smoothies a day, for three days... Nothing else - Just Green Smoothies... It really helps give me a "jump start"... I make my Green Smoothies with Protein Powder, so they work well for a meal replacer.

Hope everyone is well.

Day 1 of 3 day Green Smoothie jump start done... I'm feeling better already!!! I've just got to realize that dairy isn't good for my body... Wonder if one could make cheese from Almond Milk... hmmm... I'll have to check into that... I have no clue, what it takes to make cheese... That's my biggest stumbling block so far... I really miss my cheese. emoticon

Hi everyone, my name is Mary and I am starting back with Sparkpeople after being absent for awhile. I have JJ's book and had been going strong for a few months! I felt better than I had in a very long time. Anyway, I am excited to have found this team and am back on the program 100% think I am going to try the kick start of three shakes a day for three days I see suggested here! Look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi again! I posted a while back that I was "getting ready to get ready" to go Virgin again...but it still hasn't happened. And now my blender is broken, so I can't even do the breakfast shakes I kept up even when all my other good habits had gone away. I need to order the parts to fix the blender, and get back into it. When I tested things before, it really seemed that I didn't have bad reactions to any of the tested foods except sugar/artificial sweeteners (which we're supposed to stay off anyway). But I've been having sugary things every single day. Happy Hen's advice to start back with the shakes-only for 3 days sounds good to me (it takes a while of no other sugar before the shakes taste sweet themselves!) But again, no blender for now...

It's good to read of others' progress and successes...keep at it!

Thank you for the information. I have done without any carbonated drinks for 4 days, so just wondering if I can keep it up. At one time I was getting some type of flavored Stevia drops that I was adding to my soda stream that made it taste like cream soda. If I can't keep up with the water and tea, then I can always try that:)

Be VERY careful with Zevia, I have had two very bad experiences this year with the "natural" artificial sweetener. In July I drank two of them in one afternoon/evening during my vacation. I was sick during the night and for several days after. It gave me horrible stomach cramps for several days...I did not realize it was the soda...I have used STEVIA for many years with no adverse affects. Zevia does not contain stevia it contains erythritol and Reb A ("stevia extract")
I realized the problem at the end of august when I used a couple leftover packets of truvia my mother had given to me...same deal it was hot so I had two glasses of lemonade over the course of a few hours and was wrecked for the rest of the week. It was then that I Googled the ingredients and found that these both are stevia replicas but not stevia...apparently the FDA doesn't think stevia is safe but when Cargill tells BEEKER up in the lab to replicate it ...FDA says sure go right ahead. considered safe!? HMMM!?

4-stevia-vs-truvia

So if you drink it and cant have a solid bowel movement for a week its not the smoothie. its the soda. Sorry about the bad news if you happen to be addicted to canned carbonation. The best thing to do... would be to get real stevia and add it to a can of seltzer or carbonated water. I have been using skinny girl monk fruit it does contain malic acid ...not sure if that is bad or not...its not listed in book to be avoided. So far I have not had any problems with it.

Hi NICKELRIA!!! Welcome to the Virgin Lifestyle!!! Congratulations on getting off the soda habit... I too, had a root beer and orange soda habit before I started, but when I realized that the diet versions were even worse for me than the full sugar garbage, I didn't have any trouble kicking it, and I've never looked back... As for the Zevia soda, sweetened with Stevia, I honestly don't know, but I'll check around and see what I can find out... As I recall, it was the carbonation, as well as the sugar and artificial sugar that was bad, but for the life of me, I can't find the reference to back that up.

I ordered the package, and as I look on my bookshelf, I received the Virgin Diet Book, Companion Cookbook, and Kitchen Makeover DVD... Very helpful, especially for those just getting started... The "Meal Assembly Guide", in the book was great... I believe she even had some of it online.

Boy, I hear ya on having to get healthy protein powder... I threw out, an almost full container of whey protein, when I first started... But, this plan works when you follow it 100%, and I don't regret getting rid of that other protein powder... As it turned out, dairy is one of my HiFi foods, so it wasn't good for me anyway.

Again - Welcome to the team!!! emoticon

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I'm new as well:) I saw part of the AETN program over the weekend and liked it. Got to start somewhere, but I eliminated my 2/day habit of diet Dr. Pepper over the weekend. This is hard for me, but I'm trying. Since I don't have a book yet, just wondering if it is "ok" to drink Zevia soda that is sweetened with Stevia?

Also, I have been on the website when time allows and wondering if anyone purchased any of the packages or online program. I tried to figure out what all is included in these and can't seem to find anything but a picture that is too small to read:) Just curious if purchasing a package rather than just the book is of significant benefit. I printed off the quick-start guide which has the basic information, but I guess what I am looking for is sort of a menu plan example. I have a stressful job and home life, as well as working on my doctorate. Needless to stay, I am not too creative with ideas and would love to find some sort of example that I can pick and choose rather than try to plan all on my own:)

Thanks! This is only Day 1, cause it took me this long to get to store and find something other than whey protein (which I have quite a bit of at home).

Patty ~ That's great!!! I'm so glad to hear that your foot is feeling better, and that you're now able to get back to your running/walking.

I also do best, when I substitute at least one meal, sometimes two, but always one in the morning, with my protein green smoothies... It just seems to set the tone of the day... And don't you find, it's really nice, not to have to stand in front of the open refrigerator door, in the morning, wondering, "what am I gonna have"??? *LOL*

I've been playing with my new electronic pressure cooker, and having a blast!!! It's the perfect device for someone like me, who doesn't have a clue what to fix, until an hour before it's time to sit down to supper!!! I'm so bad. emoticon emoticon

I only re-did one week of cycle one. I'm back on cycle 3 going strong back on track. Now that my foot is feeling better I was able to do an 8 mile walk pain free. Doing one shake in the morning and staying away from dairy.

ARLOGUTHRIE ~ I love shopping at Goodwill... When I first started the program, I soon discovered that I was needing a new wardrobe, but didn't want to spend a lot on clothes that soon wouldn't fit either, so I wound up spending a LOT of time getting some cute things at reasonable prices... Now I'm able to donate them back to Goodwill and start on my "forever" wardrobe... Ya just gotta LOVE this lifestyle... IT WORKS!!! emoticon

Hey Memarocks... Thanks for joining us on open chat... Yes, this is a thread where we can chat about anything - not just specific things.

First off, have you read JJ's book??? It will be a tremendous help to you... She goes into a lot of detail that makes following her plan a lot less confusing... That being said, there's nothing like having a place to come, that you can ask other folks who have "been there done that" so to speak.

OK... As for the organic meats... JJ likes to say, "we are what we eat ate", so organic, grass fed, is best, if you can swing it... I can't afford much organic meat, so I've cut back on my meat consumption and just eat mostly wild game, fish (that isn't farm raised and fed a diet of corn), and free range chicken... Most of my protein needs comes from the quality Rice and Pea Protein Powder that I use in my green smoothies, that I have twice a day.

Most of my focus, is on eliminating the 7 hi fi foods... This requires a lot of label reading, as they seem to put corn and some form of sugar or artificial sweetener in EVERYTHING!!! It just drives me to distraction... Even my beloved Albacore tuna had soy in it... I couldn't believe it the first time I discovered that little tid bit of information.

Being a former Low Carb dieter myself, I think it's a good program, it simply doesn't address the various food sensitivities etc. that the Virgin Diet does, and that is one of the things that makes this program such a blessing... That being said, if you really want to follow Low Carb and count calories, I don't see that there'd be a problem with it, as long as you're following the Virgin Diet 100%... I think, however, you'll find that counting carbs and calories will become a non issue, once you start following the Virgin Diet.

I feel like I'm rambling, so I'm going to hit Post Message, before I need a publisher. *LOL*

Hope this helps.

I read a few posts, and I guess this is as good a place as any to ask. I have yet to start the virgin diet. I have noticed that she does not put a limit on carb count and calories. I decided to eat a lower carb count and use the WW point system to maintain a certain calorie intake,
As I said earlier, I have no clue what I'm doing as of yet, but that's what learning is about.

So I have to still go food shopping, my question is, do I shop at my normal grocery store and just by thing with no gluten, soy etc... and as far as meats, do I buy the organic meats?

Yes, JJ's roasted veggies are fantastic!!! I think it's the Red Palm Fruit Oil that puts them over the top!!! I could (and have), made a meal of just the roasted veggies!!! YUM!!!

Hi everyone,

Cycle 1 is going ok. Still have major sugar cravings, it's getting better but I hope they go away soon. I have lost the two pounds I had gained back over the holidays so I'm back to where I left off at 11 pounds lost. I have to go back to the library and check out the book again. I haven't had time to go to the library so I've been trying to do it without the book but I like having it for reference.

Hen, the roasted veggies sound really good, I'm going to try it!

Morning Team!!!

How is everyone doing???

I just finished my 3 day Protein Green Smoothie jump start... I find having just smoothies for three days, really helps me to break free of my addiction to sugar and hi carb foods... Today, I'll start back on having 2 Protein Green Smoothies a day, plus one meal... Hubby and I used to go out for "Friday night date night", but beings as I'm back on Cycle 1, I'm going to fix JJ's Roasted Veggies (I love those), to go along with a Savory Pot Roast, that I'll be doing in my new electronic pressure cooker... What an advancement they've made in the area of pressure cookers!!! Gone are the days of that scary hissing monster on the stovetop!!!

Let's make this a great day!!!

Hey Barb!!! It's great to have you back with us!!! Patty and I are going to do Cycle 1 over again, just to get back on track... You're sure welcome to join us!!! The more the merrier!!!

Yes, it really drives home, how much of an addiction sugar is... I've always considered it to be like alcohol to an alcoholic... I'm fine if I stay off the sugar... No cravings, etc... But let me have a couple days of sugar indulgence, here come the cravings, back with a vengeance!!!

I find I do best if I go three days of green smoothies, with around 5 gms of sugar, to break that sugar craving, and get me back on track.

Hope you join us!!!

Hi! I started the Virgin Diet in Feb. '13 and lost close to 30 pounds up till end of June of that year -- then I started overeating, eating more of the not-so-healthy foods--and I've been losing and gaining the same 3 lbs or so for months, not making any more headway. (Ideally I'd like to lose another 30-40 lbs to be a really healthy weight.) Then over November and December I travelled a bunch, went full force back on sugar (chocolate is my major downfall, but any cookies, ice cream, pie, donuts, etc. have been hard to resist) and have regained five solid pounds. I'm very glad I haven't regained all I lost, but I need to get up my motivation to let go of the sugar again. When I was really DOing the Virgin Diet, the cravings and bingeing did go away--but now it's hard to even imagine life without sugar again. But I know I did it before--and not that long ago--but it doesn't seem real. Words of wisdom and support would be greatly appreciated! I love being slimmer and healthier -- but I am SO attached to sweets! Thanks!

I've enjoyed playing fast and loose with my eating over the holidays, but over did it with all the sweet treats, so now I'm ready to get serious again... It didn't take long for those old aches and bloating to show themselves, once I started adding in some of the 7 hi fi foods... I was going to wait until January 2nd, but I felt so rotten last night, I decided to get back on track today... One of the best things about the Virgin Diet, is the control it gives you... If you follow it - It works - It's that simple. emoticon

Best of luck to all of you this coming New Year!!!

Good Morning Everyone!!!

Sure glad I ran my errands yesterday, cause today, it's only 32°, windy and raining... They're talking freezing rain and snow this evening. UGH!!!

Cleo ~ Your new bread discovery sounds like a great find!!! I haven't checked the label on my old favorite, Ezekiel bread, but it will be interesting to hear what the brand that you're talking about is... Your recipe sounds like a good way to sneak some fiber into your turkey dish... When you get the chance, post it in the "Recipes - Virgin Style" section, located in the "Food For Thought and Recipes Forum"... It will make finding it later on, so much easier... Thanks for sharing!!!

Cindy, Congrats on your good numbers. When I told my doctor which diet I was on, he was very pleased and said that the Virgin diet was one of the best he had heard of in a long time. Keep up the good work.

Happy Hen: I just created a good recipe yesterday. Last week I found a bread that did not include any of the 7 forbidden items. (I don't remember the brand but will let you know when I buy another loaf) I bought a loaf but found it too dense for sandwiches so I baked the slices for a hour at 200 degrees. I shredded the toasted bread slices to make bread crumbs then added chives, a little garlic powder, salt and pepper. I coated turkey thighs with a little olive oil then covered the thighs with the crumb mixture. Bake at 350 degrees until done. Delicious. This would work for probably any other meat too.

Morning Everyone!!!

I invite you to post some of your favorite "Virgin Friendly" recipes in the recipe section.

Cindy ~ What an ego boost is right!!! Isn't is wonderful, when people notice and comment on how great you look!!!??? Good job on keeping on top of "damage control", while traveling... That can really be a challenge.

Patty ~ I totally eliminated dairy during cycles 1 & 2, but have it from time to time, now that I'm in cycle 3... That is my biggest problem food, so I really have to keep it to a minimum, or the old problems come back... You are so right about the easy swaps, with the unsweetened Almond or Coconut Milk.

Glad to hear your foot is healing so well.

Hen - Did you eliminate dairy from your diet all together or do you still have some once in a while? I'm glad that there are easy swaps to make with dairy like almond milk. - I'm still limping on my foot a little. I'm on my feet a lot at work so my foot starts to bother me and about 4 hours into the day I notice it swelling around my ankle. It is getting stronger and limping less every day though. Thank you for asking.

Cindy - That's really exciting to have people notice a change in you! Congrats on the great news your lab results!

Got my labs drawn on Saturday and my HbA1C is now 5.3 and my Lipid panel is all NORMAL! I haven't seen numbers this good since I was 14 years old!. Headed to the doctor on Friday to see about adjusting some of my medications. Can't wait to tell him about this diet and how it can help out other diabetics too.

Talk about a huge ego boost. My niece and nephew drove up to visit for the weekend and we had a lovely time. Then my sister-in-law texted me after their return with what the kids had said, "Oooohhhh...you should see how tiny aunt Cindy is...(how cool is that)"

Well I finished my first week of cycle 2. I added dairy as my first food. It was so funny to actually notice a reaction to food and understand where it's coming from. I didn't have a severe reaction just some gas and had a blemish appear on my face but I don't want to continue with these reactions and I'll be taking it out for 3 months before trying it again. Also, I didn't lose any weight this week. I didn't gain either so that's a plus. This week I'm adding gluten.

Patty ~ Not everyone loses at the same rate, but I'd say you're doing fantastic, with all the benefits you're seeing... Finally being in control over food and losing those constant cravings is WAY more important than the weight issue... I mean, for me, that was HUGE!!! I can't begin to tell you what that one thing did for my confidence!!!

If you still don't feel ready to start cycle two, don't worry about it... When you're ready, THAT will be the right time for you... In the meantime, just enjoy the journey, and your new found control. emoticon

I was supposed to start cycle 2 today but I just did another cycle 1 day. I was going to start but I didn't feel like eating any of the four foods the book says to start adding. I felt a little afraid to start as if I was going to gain back all the weight I lost in cycle 1. I'll try again tomorrow and begin with adding dairy. I have some greek yogurt and cottage cheese that I can test with this week.

About cycle 1. I lost 6 pounds. Not the 10-15 pounds she claims in her book and I don't think I look 10 years younger either. I do feel I have better control over the foods that were controlling me. The constant cravings are gone. I see food differently and that is what I most wanted from starting this diet. I knew I would lose some weight even if it wasn't as it says in the book. I'm happy with my results so far.

Wendi ~ I just posted a really satisfying "drinking" soup recipe in the recipe section... I call it a "drinking" soup, as you don't need a spoon... Hubby could take this in a thermos and drink on it as he had time... I love it on these colder fall days.

Cleo, it's good that you found out that some foods don't agree with you. Now that you know you can make better choices.

Today is my last day if cycle 1 and I kinda hate to see it go. I'm trying to figure out which food to try first. Probably dairy then eggs followed by gluten. This is like a science experiment lol

Felt great through the 21 days.

Cleo ~ Thanks for your kind words.

I also agree with the cycle 1 way of eating... On just about any given day, that's the way I eat... There are so many good things to eat, and easy "swap outs" we can do, who needs peanuts, dairy, soy and sugar??? Life is so much easier to deal with, when I don't have them wrecking havoc on my system.

Good Morning Everyone,

Patty - I am going back to cycle one and staying there. When I tried eggs and dairy, my weight stalled. When I tried glutton even after only one day, the bloating and gas came back. Also, the cravings came back. My whole life I have always eaten after supper. If not, I could not fall asleep unless I had a sweet and calories intensive snack just before going to bed. (usually ate in bed). Since I have been on the Virgin diet I stopped eating after dinner and I don't even miss the night time grazing. I don't want to go back to that!

It does not matter to me if I never eat soy, peanuts, corn or sugar again. I did not eat peanuts or sugar anyway and I will not miss the soy or corn either.

Hen- Thanks for all your support. You really do keep me going. I live with my daughter and her family and they are all overweight so they don't want to hear about my diet. They know what they have to do so I don't shove it in front of their faces. I figure they will learn by example. Since I have been loosing all this weight, my daughter has started asking questions about this diet so I think when she sees the results, she may rethink about what she eats and feeds the kids. Anyway, it is always encouraging to hear from you. Thanks!

Enjoy the day,
CleoAllen

Evenin' All...

We didn't work on our gate/fencing project today, as the wind was really blowin', and we were under a high wind warning... Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful calm day, so we'll hit it then.

Patty ~ Congrats on getting out of your foot boot!!! I remember waaaaay back when, I broke my ankle and then later my foot, but that was back when they still had those heavy plaster casts... OYE!!! They've come a long way since then... Double congrats on not eating with the kids at their snack times!!! emoticon

Sure is great to have you ladies posting!!!

Ram ~ Miss your posts... Where are ya lately??? You're probably out clothes shopping, and enjoying that new physique!!! emoticon

Take good care everyone!!!

Hi everyone,

I finally went back to work today after having my foot in boot for 6 1/2 weeks after I broke it. I limped along and got through it. I work at a preschool and after school daycare and we have snack times for these kids 3 times a day. I used to eat right along side them before the virgin diet, today I didn't want to have any of it. I just drank my water. Yay!

Cleo - I start cycle 2 on Monday. I'd like to know if you decide to continue with cycle 2. Maybe dairy is one of the foods you want to avoid, I don't know. But it would be good to keep going and find out about the rest of the 7 high FI foods during this phase. I find cycle 1 pretty easy too. Not missing the foods I've eliminated at all. At least not yet. Hope it stays that way.

Hen - Nice job on your treadclimber! Thank you for being so supportive!

Have a great weekend!

Morning Everyone!!! Happy Friday!!!

I just got off my TreadClimber, from my last workout of the week - I only walk 3 times a week.

Cleo ~ Yepper, that's what dairy does to me... It stalls my weight loss efforts and brings back the bloating... I just took the short break from testing, and then, that next Monday, I tested the next food... Don't forget, once you've tested dairy, you take it out for the rest of cycle 2... It's just nice to finish testing, so you'll KNOW what your "don't play nice" foods are... That being said, however, there's nothing wrong with going back to cycle 1.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody!!! emoticon

Good Morning to all,

Well, I just started cycle 2 and have had dairy for 4 days now. I have not noticed any difference in how I feel but my weight reduction seems to be stalled. After loosing pounds every few days, my weight has not moved at all in the last 4 days. As a result, I am going back to cycle 1. It was not difficult at all to follow and it provides plenty to eat. Maybe I will just stick with cycle 1 at least until I loose all the weight I want to.

Patty - Congrats on getting through Halloween. If you can resist all that candy you should do just fine during Thanksgiving too. Keep it up, it is worth it.

I hope all is well with everyone.

Yay! I got through Halloween this year without eating any candy! It never fails, every year I would binge on my sons candy that he would bring home or I would stash away some of the candy I was giving out. This time around we had no candy left over or stashed away. My son came back with a ton of candy and I had no craving for it at all. Even after checking it and sorting it out for him I had no desire to have any of it.

That's a big deal for me. Today is 12 days on the virgin diet and I am amazed at how I can resist chocolate and sugar so easily. I never thought it would be possible but there it is.

Cindy ~ Thanks for the heads up on the Pizza Crust!!! Sounds like a great find!!! I'll have to check it out, as we LOVE PIZZA!!! I'm also on maintenance, so have a little dairy from time to time... Unfortunately, dairy was one of my food intolerances, so I really have to limit it, unless I'm willing to put up with the painful inflammation in my joints.

I found a seasoned Pizza Crust mix by Full Circle and made a pizza for dinner a couple weeks ago. I used nitrate free bacon and sausage crumbles, onions and mushrooms on my section and had 2 slices. I found a natural pizza sauce jar and used part skim cheese. (phase 3 so I could have dairy.) It turned out to be pretty tasty!

Your pedometer sounds like a great motivator... What a thoughtful gift!!!

As for the bread and pizza dough, I don't know of any recipes.

For our anniversary, I got my hubby his very own smart pedometer. Now we can race each another and challenge both of us to get fit and healthy. We can even "bet" chores - in the app itself -- to make racing more interesting! I bought a Striiv smart pedometer when they first launched their company a couple years ago and absolutely love the motivation I get from it! I'm on my second striiv ( I forgot to take it off and walked into the pool with the first one...caution, they are NOT waterproof!) You'll love the games, the charitable donations just your moving can create, and the personal challenges you can set. Very great tool, for anyone interested! Available at striiv.com, amazon, or best buy for $99. Well worth the money!

Sorry to be MIA lately... I'm in Idaho with a friend, who just had knee surgery... My Internet time is pretty hit and miss, but I'll be checking back in, so please don't hesitate to post.

I'm doing pretty well on my lifestyle up here, as I've got all my smoothie fixin's and they've got a Vitamix... I've never used one before, but if there ever comes a time, when I can't get the Health Master, like I've got, I'd sure consider the Vitamix... I just have a hard time justifying the cost. YEOW!!! Other than that, I'm really impressed with the machine.

Take care all.

Update: I finished the 21 days last week, and went off the reservation for a day. The local county Fair broke me down, and I had some great pizza with all kinds of toppings and a serving of ice cream. Really good in the hot weather!
About 1/2 hour after eating this stuff, I got a mild sickening feeling, and felt very tired. Not sure if it was the food, or the situation of being at the Fair...
Anyway, I'm back on track with the diet, and adding a little sugar here and there in ketchup, BBQ sauce, etc... Not a lot, but I'm aware it's there.
Feeling good these days, just do not want to regain any weight, you know...

DARSTARR01 - Welcome to the team!!! That's wonderful, that you and hubby will be doing the lifestyle together... What a great support team the two of you can be for one another!!!

I think you're wise, to wait until you're able to be completely focused, and give this new lifestyle 100%, because when you follow the program 100%, it will work!!! Simple as that... I'm so excited for you and your hubby!!! You're really in for a treat, as you start feeling better and start to improve your health!!! For me, that was the most important thing... But I've got to be honest, losing the weight was a fantastic benefit too!!! emoticon

Looking forward to seeing your posts, and getting to know you!!!

My husband and I are getting ready to start the Virgin Diet, I am super happy that he is gonna do this with me. Our main reason is to find out specifically which items we are intolerant to and keep them out of our diets. With this we hope to feel much better, for me that would mean no more occasional breathing problems, allergy symptoms such as itchy eyes, nose, and chest, darn acne, and more energy. For the hubby to no longer have headaches would be a complete miracle, so I don't have high hopes for this but I would be jumping for joy. We can't start until after the first week of October due to family obligations but after that we are clear to give it a go. I have been reading everyone's progress which is making me very hopeful. I look forward to getting to know you all better and hopefully to be helpful as we all go through this new journey. Thanks!

Kelly ~ Ya know, one of the first things I noticed, before there was much weight loss, was the huge improvement in the way I felt!!! I couldn't believe how fast it happened, once I got the 7 Hi Fi foods out of my diet!!! Who knew, that they could wreak havoc on our system like that???

Ram ~ Enjoy your new smaller jeans!!! You've earned it!!!!

Well, my friends, I'm heading out to do chores... It's starting to cool down... It was over 100 degrees today!!! UGH!!! I've got more mowing to do, but it's gonna have to get back down to around 90, before I'm willing to do much of anything outside.

It's good to know there are others out there with the same issues, goals, etc...
9 more to go for the 1st part of this.
I'll make it OK. It's what happens after 21 days that has me wondering.

Hi RAMSASPARK,

Welcome!!! I hear ya on the sugar and bread thing... They were the two things that really caused me problems... They were like an addiction, but after kicking the 7 Hi Fi foods that first three weeks, I realized, they no longer had the hold on me they once had... Hang in there, it WILL get better.

I think it's important to be able to share experiences, and just everyday life in general, while on a new lifestyle, and that's what the Virgin Diet is, a healthy lifestyle, not just a lose a few pounds quick fad, so let's use this thread to visit and learn from one another's experiences.
