OK, I am working on learning this and still cooking in a way I and my husband like and will eat. Today for Valentine's Day and his birthday (I am hoping he can be here - he's on the road) I am making a soup with a small amount of rotisserie chicken, 4 types of beans, cracked wheat, pearl barley, rice and brown rice, wheat germ, sweet potato, cumin, home canned tomatoes, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, parsley, oregano, garlic (always garlic, yum) other herbs, and am making a strawberry jello with whole cranberry sauce, mandarin oranges, apples, and walnuts. I am planning to make him a cherry chip cake, I know, not good for you, but it's his birthday AND V-day so I'm going to make something special just for him. :) I know it's not a perfect meal, but for us it (I think) is getting on the right track. I am trying to incorporate more AA and healthy foods. Am I on the right track?

I don't have any special restrictions beyond my pocketbook. My nutrition tracker tells me I should be eating about 2500 calories a day, but I always burn more calories than I project I will, so it should probably be more.

I have the same problem now that I am more active. I blame the problem on all the high fiber foods.

Are you eating legumes, and nuts?

There really are high calories foods on the list. Without going to check it, these come to mind: lentils, yogurt, almonds, walnuts, olives, olive oil, edamame, tofu, pinenuts, cashews, dark meat poultry.

I use olive oil to roast veggies. I add chopped walnuts to chopped apples.

Rice, grapes, celery, yogurt, and walnuts makes a pretty good rice salad.

I have started adding an evening snack, moving supper earlier. And I combine a fruit with nuts or an ounce of Jarlsberg light cheese. Sometimes Gouda. You could use regular Jarlsberg to get the fat calories.

Let me know if you want more ideas, with parameters. Like are you vegan, vegetarian, following a special plan, etc.

I need to eat more. That is counter intuitive, but on my gym days I am burning over 2000 calories. I am just not that hungry anymore. I have been trying to increase my AA foods, but they tend to be low calorie, so I would have to eat even more. I have been on a plateau with my weight for a month now, and I think it is partially because I am not eating enough.

I'm going to visit the past president of my ostomy group in the hospital. She went in for a colonoscopy, they perforated her bowel, and had to have 12 inches removed. Just found out yesterday and it happened Monday while i was traveling to Florida.

We're up to 52 already, so my cardio might be in the pool again, but I need to get miles in!!

I know you believe in the power of God. Turn it over to Him. Really. Write down everything you are worrying about. Fold up the paper and put it under your pillow and tell God they are His. That you are not going to worry about them any more. And if you need to, ask for help to leave the worry with Him.

Well, it looks like I am in for another battle--I am praying that they do not find any cancer. Monday I will be calling for an appointment at the Cancer Center. Something is not right and I know it. Please mention me in your prayers.

I am so up tight that I am biting down so hard that my jaw hurts. Yes, I am praying too.

Doing fine today, just enjoying lift and freezing, waiting on the snow to start tonight.
Third AA food added today, so have had two fruits and 1 veggie. Tomorrow one more veggie to add and will hold at 2 fruits an 2 veggies for a few days.

Slow an easy wins the race!

Gee, what is warm & sunny. It is very cold here. We have one foot of snow and will be getting more tonight. I live in the snow capital, as they call it.

That's great!! I guess everything is degrees, small steps forward. I just got back from a walk with my new buddy from the pool. It wound up being a work out for her and a stroll for me. Took an hour to walk a mile. Absolutely wore me out walking that slowly.

I imagine we'd have the same problem if I ever tried to walk/run with you. Once in a while I run between mailboxes.. And alternate. We used to have an elderly couple who would do that every evening, I figure if they could do it, I should be able to come close.
I don't come near a record, but I'm pretty proud of myself when I can.

Well, it's warm and sunny, and I guess I'd better get up to the pool and really try for a cardio workout!!

We did an aqua Zumba class, then a water exercise class. The Zumba was fun. Well, I was laughing constantly at myself. And the water exercise class was a pretty intense workout for me.

We're walking on the bike trail this afternoon.
In the forties right now, with sun, but the wind is only about 5 mph down from 25.

I met a woman at my community pool who actually dragged me kicking and screaming to the YMCA tonight for 2 water exercise classes. Aqua zumba, and Water exercise. Aqua zumba qualifies for a 5 star fun rating because I felt so funny trying to keep up with an instructor who wasn't in the water. But if I ever get it, it will be cool!

The Water Exercise seemed similar to middle school calisthenics, only in the water. Until we used the noodles. This was similar to the foam barbells they used in NC. I felt great when done, but very tired now. I was worried I wouldn't be able to calm down exercising so late. No problem, And if I don't go to bed soon, I'll wake up in my chair in the morning.

have a great day tomorrow!! TGIF. Hmmm. . . We've scheduled a walk on the bike trail, Hope I can move.

Doing somewhat better the last 2 days, however, the weather is not doing good at all.
Have been able to be more consistent with adding one new AA food per day, right now up to 2 per day and this weekend it will be 3. I've never been one to accept change fully on a "right now" bases. Seems the slower I go the longer a change stays with me.

I will praying for your sister. My niece just came back from Africa. She helped set-up a new school and medical clinic. She and her friends had to finish building the school and clinic the old fashion way.

My niece Amber loved it there and will be going back. She is in med. school and learned so much there.

I am tired today, but had difficulty getting to sleep. Must have been worried about my sister. If that's the cause, I won't be sleeping tonight either. i don't think she'll get to Aftica until Sunday mornng. Heathrow in the morning. and a 8 hour layover, then one more leg to Kenya.

She told us at lunch that they were just sent an e-mail that they might should bring hand germicide and their own tools including hammer, pliers, and crowbar. At this point, all the bags are packed. She might get there and have to build that retaining wall for the medical center the old fashioned way--with the help of an elephant!!

1 year anniversary.

A year ago, I watched Dr. Li's video for the first time and started my journey of adding more anti-angiogenic foods into my diet. I do a better job of that some days than others. Traveling today through 2 meals was next to impossible. I'm glad I got home and my garden was still growing salad greens. With the tomatoes, mini-peppers, and an apple, I was able to meet my goal.

I have developed habits of things I do that help me meet my AA goals.

I'm going to share some here and if you are looking for easy ways to incorporate more AA foods, see if any of these will fit into your lifestyle.

Breakfast: I always eat 2 fruits, usually a banana and 1 other from the AA list. I really enjoy cherries or apple or blueberries. Sprinkle on 1 T. ground flax seed, and either an ounce of nuts of 1/2 cup greek yogurt. Whether I have nuts or greek yogurt, I sprinkle on cinnamon and nutmeg. And if you use yogurt, you could add honey, and drink a cup of tea or coffee.

And if you put everything in the blender, you an throw in a cup of frozen mixed fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries), with the yogurt, flaxseed, some spinach, and the cinnamon, nutmeg and honey for a delicious smoothie with 10 AA foods. Add the banana or not, but I do, It's delicious.

So this breakfast gives you at least 6-7 AA foods; possibly 8 if you substitute an AA fruit for the banana.

If I feel like eggs, I start frying onion, garlic, mushroom and chopped spinach, black pepper.
Then eggs go in and make scrambled eggs, with grated jarlsberg or gouda cheese.
I add some chopped tomato and a cutie on the side. With herbs on the tomato, and cup of tea, I have eaten 9 AA foods.

For lunch or dinner, I always have at least one salad. For that, I try to keep on hand fresh spinach, onion, tomatoes, parsley, and mini-sweet peppers. (5) Then I add an AA fruit: strawberries, grated apple, clementine or grapefruit sections or pear.

So for the base of my salads, I have 6 AA foods without adding jarlsberg cheese, tuna, dark meat chicken, or lentils, which would add 1-2 more because small amounts still count.

I will roast tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, garlic, carrots, sweet potatoes, whole pumpkins or other winter squash, brussels sprouts, apples, pears, and a few others but those are my favorites.

They keep well in the refrigerator until I make oven roasted pizza, spaghetti sauce,or a winter vegetable plate, a soup or a stew.

I guess my biggest habit is prepping a lot of veggies on the list. For me that means chopping tomatoes, onions, peppers, broccoli, and storing in containers ready to go
Chopping and steaming green beans broccoli, edamame.
Sprouting lentils (about 1/2 cup every 4 days (just for one person)
Cooking a package of mushrooms
Roasting an oven full of vegetables that take longer to cook

Then all I have to do is pull out some containers and throw them together. I can easily supplement with other things that are or aren't on the list, and it won't matter because I know that everything in the backbone of my meal is AA.

It has been an interesting journey. I'm still learning. And thinking about how I can increase the mix.

Remember your herbs and spices and you are cooking your own meals!!

I don't know, Michelle. Do you track everything and make your food journal available?
I'd look at it for you if it is, but all I could do is look for something you're not eating, nutritionally.

Have you seen a doctor?

I'd try drinking 1 T vinegar in 1/2 c. water and see if that helps.

I used to get thrush when on chemotherapy (yeast in throat). I gargled with straight vinegar then, and it always went away right away!!

Past couple of weeks have been nothing but health issues! Have been having yeast infections, one after another and just not sure what to eat anymore. Sinus infection is not helping either. Medication I'm taking for the Yeast infection does not seem to be helping. I'm aware that yeast infections are common with Diabetics but nothing is out of norm with my fasting sugars or blood sugars.

Is it what I'm eating?

Feeling better and I am not feeling so fatigued as of today. Do believe stress level is down as well. However do have an appointment tomorrow for a follow-up. Appetite getting better and gradually adding more I can tolerate.

Shingles is a scourge on the human race!!

Have you ever tried witch hazel compresses on your sinuses? I think it is very helpful. Takes off pressure. Soak a man's handkerchief or wash cloth in it. Heat in a microwave for about 30 seconds and place folded over your face above your mouth. You can keep reheating as it cools off. Sometimes if I have a headache with it, I freeze the cloth, but I wouldn't recommend that in the winter. It's a lot warmer in Florida year round!

Can not say anything great about my sinuses, or Shingles for that matter. Feel about 50% an have been for the last three days. Right now food makes me tired half way through a meal.
Perhaps once this is through, I'll feel better, that should be time for the Spring thaw. LOL

I'm doing much better. Abdominal issues might be gone. It's pretty easy to stick to my diet plan up here, even when I go in to town to walk.

My memory appears to be gone. I can't remember my ATM card #. Oh, I can remember lots of numbers, even my last card number. That one is as clear as the chocolate bundt cake with raspberries I see in the top ad banner.

But I can't figure out which of the many sets of numbers is the one. I have to return to Florida to fix it. How long my cash lasts determines how long I stay. Up here, many service people require cash. They're probably working outside the income tax rules.

Well, anyway, I feel very feeble everytime I think about this. I keep telling myself it wasn't my problem at first, but Walmart's machines, but when it didn't work, I tried a different combo, blocked myself out of the system for security reasons, and messed up my brain.

Can't wait to get home and see what it really is. They'll probably just send me a new one in the mail and I'll never know.

I don't live on Gold Pond for nothin'!

I'm doing fine at present, just waiting for more snow to fall tonight and through next Tuesday.
Until the Winter Advisory is up and the snow stops and the car unfreezes, the pantry will be taking a hit. Hopefully I can use the time of confinement to the indoors to get eating habits up an running.

Perhaps a pound loss by Tuesday will push the motivation forward.

I'm more or less content with how I've been doing. It helped me very much to plan ahead in the month of december and to agree with myself that I'd only 'indulge' on the two days of Christmas and New Year's Eve. Even though I did overeat / indulge before it was Christmas, and I had a few binges this past month due to emotional issues, I still think I did better than I would have done if I had not made clear resolutions.
Since yesterday I'm 'back on track' and eating according to my food plan and that feels nice. I felt that before Christmas, I was beginning to get into some kind of routine and it's good to return to it now.
These past two days I've been pondering the topic of 'goals for the new year'.

Hi everyone! My car made it 90 miles to the repair shop yesterday and back. Through heavy snow storm on Brasstown Bald. Didn't like that road. It wound around, up and down like ribbon candy.

Mom and sister left early this morning. The house seems very empty. Did laundry and took my dog in to town to walk along the river.

Not sure how long I'm staying, but will definitely be here at least another week, through New Years. A quiet one. Happy. Healthy.

And the same to all of you. Unless you want it noisy!!

Michele, the habit part definitely helps with any aspect of anything I try to change in my life. One little do-able change at a time, and then keep building on that.

I find adding the veggies VERY difficult. Still. But I know I'm doing much more with them than I ever have in my life, even when I was being total vegetarian, because then, I relied on grains and soy products for my main dishes.

Now, I'm relying on fruits and veggies with a little grain or soy thrown in, thanks to Dr. Furhman.

Christina, how is everything going with you?

Doing well. Christmas was pleasant. Low-key. I managed to eat fairly healthy. I went to the gym with my niece on Christmas Eve. I want to focus more on overall health in 2013. I have a pretty good handle on what works for me as far as fitness and nutrition go, but it is an evolving process, so I will probably tweak things a bit. Don't really have specific goals in place yet.

Just adjusting, Holiday Menus that I had no control of was hard in some settings to get foods on the list. No actual meals during this time were at home. However, I tend to adjust and develop certain habits by consistency. I am hoping this will prove out here as well.
Plans for 2013 as yet not put in writing.
