Just checking in..here it is 22 weeks since I made a promise to myself to stick with it. Since I am tired of starting over, I decided that I would not quit and keep moving forward-maybe not at the same speed or intensity every single day, but I would renew my determination every day by sticking with as much of the program I could every single day-even if it meant doing upper body workouts after everyone has gone to bed. I feel I am learning more about myself as I continue on this journey and am looking forward to what more I can do to succeed-

Wow-this has really been up and down when I look at my commitment and following through--I'm really happy with the fact that here it is almost 15 weeks later and I'm not giving up! emoticon
I told myself when I started that even when I slipped or lost momentum that I would get back on track as quickly as possible and not quit. It takes a lot of self-talk and getting back to the Sparkpeople site. I just remind myself that I do not want to go back and start over. A few steps back to regroup to go forward as helped me not just stop completely. I remind myself there are no calories burned when you beat yourself up but positive statements replacing the little voice trying to talk me into just quitting has helped me move forward. emoticon emoticon

Love the focus on commitment-when I joined back at the end of January, I was ready to go-with a few stops and starts,I now find myself almost 7 weeks later on a much more even schedule of meeting my goals to eat better, move more, and get more consistent sleep so I will be ready to tackle the day instead of making excuses why I can't. It takes time to change and so patience is also on my list of things to get better at in the future. emoticon

Good Morning, everyone. Yes, I agree with everyone...commitment is the key. Awareness that this is the path to health and happiness...and committing to it. Wishing us all a day filled with focus and smiles.

I joined the site back in January, but did not really make a commitment to anything. We just got married this past Saturday, so I really didn't want to set goals that I strongly felt that I wasn't going to make, since I was so dang busy with the wedding. Now that I am able to sit back, relax and enjoy married life, I am ready to start taking charge of my crazy eating habits and my lack of exercising habits :)

emoticon I hope everyone's doing good on their journey. I joined over a month ago but am just now committing to the program. I love it. In 3 weeks I lost 5.5 pounds but it is slowing down this week. Trying to get moving...not a fan of exercise.
Cold here and flurries but nothing is sticking. Excited for spring and warmer weather.

Falling is inevitable. The challenge is to get up and keep the end in site.

WTG, WarriorK63-nothing like having the scale finally getingt on board with your efforts!

Really cold today and very windy which kept the temps even colder-what a change from yesterday when we were in the 60's! Barely skirted 48 today and with the windchill we were in the 30's. Still got my errands done just wore a lot more layers than I would have liked! LOL
Hope all have a great rest of the week! emoticon

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for the Spark Goodie!

I finally saw the scale move after a two week plateau.

I must stop playing around here and get to exercising for today....

Thank you for the encouragement

We have a little snow, maybe a inch or two. Not really bad for Illinois. I am ready for Spring though. I've been doing great with my exercising, I've worked out every day this week. I need to focus on tracking everything and staying in range.

Good Morning, everyone. For those of you with snow, stay warm and safe. Sun is shining but very crisp and cool this morning for the dogwalks. And speaking of dogs...Golden Rescue called us this past weekend and asked if we could do an emergency foster...she is age 10, petite and sweet, her name is Holly. So we are a family of four dogs...what is one more :-) Meals planned for the day: Kale salad for lunch, salmon for dinner, and did a 4 mile Leslie Sansone walking dvd after dogwalks. Wishing us all a day filled with healthy choices.

How's everyone doing? Lots and lots of snow here.

First Winter Storm Q. Then Winter Storm Rocky

Power flickered but so far, we have not lost power though some around the county and adjoining counties have :(

Hi emoticon Just checking in.. I finally have seen some weight loss. I'm not sure what triggered it but it is about 4 lbs in 8 days... amazing.. especially since I've seen NOTHING since starting about a month ago. I started eating gluten free and I think that just might be the secret to this weight loss thing for me. I hope you are all doing well.

Cheryl - a lot of the time my visits with Mom were actually just visits with my sister who was mom's caregiver. It was hard. I 'm glad the scale is moving for you!

Thanks, Nancy...at the beginning of my mother's dementia, I was feeling as if "I was in this all alone"...my brothers live in other states...but then I am reminded that so many of us are going thru this...children becoming caregivers to parents. Luckily, my mom remembers me but her short term memory is so bad it is difficult to have any meaningfull conversation.

Steff, hope this week you can find some time that is just for you...no roles except to be good to you.

It appears my positive attitude is paying off...the scale was not moving but I stuck to the "plan" of tracking, moving more, enjoying the healthy food choices and voila, I'm seeing some lower numbers on the scale. MORE KALE :-)

STHAX10, emoticon for your post. I needed some encouraging words. I did not have a good week and have been feeling bad about it. My kids had their winter break from school and have been driving me crazy! I now know for a fact(pretty sure that I did know before too) that I am an emotion eater. I played taxi driver, wife, mother, homework helper, nurse (my daughter had foot surgery this week), cleaned the house, tackled my "to do" list, hosted a family get together, all while working my full-time job! This week I will get back on track, exercising and eating the way that I should be. emoticon

Congrats on the snow shoveling! We had just one day of snow here in Tucson...fun for one day and that was enough for me...sun took care of the melting so no shoveling required! Seeing some movement on the scale...reward for being patient and trusting the process. My commitment to the 10,000 steps each day has been good for me, physically and mentally. I'm off for a visit to see my mother...which always holds some surprises and challenges since she has Parkinson's Dementia...and then I think some weed pulling this afternoon, which I love for clearing my head and not to mention good for adding those squats and bending. Wishing everyone a good weekend. Keep making healthy choices.

Sthax10 - It's awesome that you've lost 70 pounds! To go from walking with a cane to riding a mountain bike if great!Sorry you have to work so much right now.

My workout today was shoveling snow. I'm not sure how much we got because the wind was blowing. It took,e about 40 minutes to shovel our driveway. I think I'm going to feel it later.

Hello everyone! Sorry I have not been too active with you all for a bit. I have been working 2 jobs and it is pushing me right now. I will be down to 1 job once tax season is nearly over.

Please remember, this is a lifestyle change. It is hard to adjust at times, but never give up...
Only a year ago, I was walking with a cane. It was tough for me to begin exercising and staying on top of eating properly. 70 pounds later, I have survived, lol. I now walk on my own, no assistance. I ride a mountain bike, use a treadmill and home gym system. Yes. I still have weight to lose. I am at a plateau, but I will not give up.

Just yesterday at the pharmacy to pick up my nerve pain medication, the pharmacy tech (I had not seen her in some time) said to me, "you have lost a lot of weight". Of course she wanted to know if it was intentional since I have so many health issues. I assured her that it was, and overall I am doing ok. But it is nice to have people recognize that I have lost the weight.

So remember, it's a challenge. But it is a doable challenge! There are so many of us here that are here to support you. emoticon emoticon

Congrats to all of you that have had some successful weeks!!! There are more to come!!! You are all emoticon

I agree, do not (do not, do not, do not) give up. Try replacing those negative thoughts with positive affirmations..."This time is different" "These healthy changes will eventually show up on the scale" "I deserve to be healthy".

Thanks, Lunawill, for the festive pinwheel :-)

I sent myself a "gold star" for sticking to this for three weeks :-)

Everyone, have a terrific Thursday.

Did 19 minutes of strength training and 13 minutes cardio. I seem to be at the place where I end up giving up. I lose 20 lbs and then...nothing. I have stayed in my calorie range everyday and unlike every other time I tried, this time I exercise. It is extremely frustrating!!! I'm trying very hard to hold on to my drive but I fell very stuck. Anyone else out there have this problem?

I walked for almost 2 hrs. this afternoon. I'm getting some major dental work done tomorrow. I don't think I'll be eating solid food for a few days. I may not want to exercise either. So I got double work in today. I'm lucky that I can be free enough to do "double time".

I haven't been too hung up on checking my weight. I figure if I just watch the calories and do the workouts, the weight will come off naturally.

Only lost .5 lb this week but my clothes are looser & the tape measure shows an overall 2.25 inches from the last measurement. For 2 days I barely ate 900 calories because of being sick but I also did not exercise for 3 days due to pain issues so I guess I should be glad I made some progress. Will try to get some extra exercise this week.

Hey Kammak,
How great is that?!! You have really gotten into the exercise part. I think that can be the hardest part for many people. You sound fit, no chronic pain from misbehaving or tempermental body parts..... what a gift.

Now the sugar thing, I can really relate to. I like my sweets. I indulged in them. A bowl of ice cream was 4 dips, a cone was never less than 2. That would be a waste of a trip to a fine creamery. If someone got me Godiva chocolates, so you think I wasn't going to eat every one. Ridiculous! Ha!

I'm using lots of Dash w/ cauliflower, lemon on broccoli, staying away from cheese, convincing myself celery is delicious..... Keep cutting down on the sweets and keep them out of the house. A friend of mine got me a sweet smelling candle for V. Day instead of candy. Bless his little heart. He knew I'd have been through the box in no time. Hee, hee.

Hi Cheryl,
I've definitely seen results, too. I check in everyday. It keeps me motivated. You all keep me motivated. We all started at the same time.

The Tracker is like my "Jiminy Cricket" - my coach, accountability and conscience-keeper. I've had a nasty cold w/ ear ache the past few days which has prevented me from my exercise routine. And then, I have overeaten the past few days. Choclate brownies were a huge No-No. No excuses 'cause it's right there in the Tracker that I was over the budget!

Oh well, it's back on track today. I had 2 pieces of toast (35 calorie/piece bread) and will have a rather large sweet potato for lunch with a tsp. of I Can't believe it's not Butter. That should get me back. I'll see next week when I weigh in.

Still motivated,
Carissa

Well, Lunawill, WILL prevail, as I see it.
Your hubby brought you candy and flowers for Valentine's Day! How sweet it is! That's a lovely gesture (and man) in your life to be grateful for.

I'm sorry you felt so bad, though. I joined the over 50-60 team as well as our newbies for the added support due to issues sometimes unique to older adults. I'm not sure of your age, but regardless I, too, have some chronic knee pain that I need to manage of it will prevent from the exercise. The exercise is definitely helping me with the weight loss in addition to watching the calories.

Hoping you feel better soon.

I decided honesty instead of evading or hiding....I "celebrated" my two weeks here, a good week of exercise with what....a day of eating my way thru the kitchen. When I stopped tracking, I knew I was in trouble. Stepped on the scale to see the damage, yep there was plenty....but today will not be a repeat. Shoes on to start dogwalks, temps are lovely outside so maybe some yardwork, and yes, I will track every bite today. This path, this journey, will always have some bumps...but I vow to remain...the journey continues.

today is not a good day. Chronic pain is in full bloom, so I can barely stand, did not sleep well last night because of it. Did not come anywhere near my calorie goal today as sick in my stomach & everything tastes terrible, even the candy DH brought home, along with fflowers. Had a piece because he insisted. Did not nibble any of the treat GD helped make for us, chocolate dipped strawberris, marshmellows, & pretzels, she was happy when Pappap ate some(she is 4) Did drink lots of water.

Hey, you keep up the good work too. I have a torn miniscus in my right knee that slows me down until I warm up. I would like to walk faster, but I'll do damage. So I'm content to go slow, burn the calories over a 1 1/2 hr. period and stay limber for another day.

Hi, I managed to stay in my calorie range even with eating out. Got grilled fish & roasted veggies. Ate the salad & 1/3 of my meal(leftovers for lunch today & tomorrow) no desert, did have bread. Need to try to increase my exercise but my joints barely move when the weather is cold, walking is my main exercise except in the summer when I can use our pool. Am working on strength exercises.
Keep up the good work everyone.

Hi, Checking in. I haven't been too succesful in losing weight yet. I've definately gotten in a habit of exercising. What I do is little walks/runs during the week and an exercise class.. all as a sort of training for a big run I do on Saturdays with a friend (about 3 miles). I've only gone 2x but the improvement on the 2nd time was amazing. So I feel like I have exercise under control I need to get my eating under control specifically eating items with refined sugar....

Same here...thanks for checking in. Not seeing much movement on the scale YET...but feeling positive that it will eventually happen. My exercise level is good (14,000 steps today), tracking my food and fixed a new Sparks recipe for dinner ... a broccoli/cauliflower/potato soup. Staying motivated to keep tracking every bite...and to keep moving...need to trust this is a winning combination. I'm 64 and weight doesn't come off easy any more but it will happen :-)

Crosslites - Great job sticking to your plan! I like to seemy spark points increase too!

Sthax10 - Way to go on choosing to walk instead of asking for a ride!

I ended up 86 calories over today but it could have been worse. I have almost 11,000 steps so I'm not too worried about it.

Wow! I see a weight loss pattern going on here?!?!

That is so emoticon

Today I got the much needed push... my hubby's truck wouldn't start, forcing me to have him take my car. So, I chose to walk to the store, walk to work and walk to my in-laws to be picked up (instead of calling for a ride). I got 11746 steps on the pedometer today. I will be continuing this routine until his truck is fixed. He works out of town and I am only 1.5 miles from work. So it makes sense for me to walk... It is a series of uphill and downhill. Great cross country hiking... emoticon

Thanks for checking up on us....I have managed to stay consistent with working out every day and staying within my calorie range...getting a little too obsessed with spark points, mind you, but overall doing well

It's not necessarily just about what you are eating, but what's eating you

I've lost almost 4 pounds. It definitely helps when I log my food and see on the screen exactly what I've eaten every day.

Help me get to 70,000 steps this week. Join me on Fitbit www.fitbit.com/user/26T84Y

Today started with some sun and in the 40's will be in the 50's later. Doing some laundry. Did some strenght training but with DH off today & tomorrow, he is under foot alot and the things he wants done get done first like dusting the ceilings & all the fans today. Plus the tops of the kitchen cabinets. Going out to eat tonight so will need to be very watchful of what I have to eat. Usually not a problem as we only go out about 3 times a yr. He doesn't eat anyone's cooking but mine.

Monday Morning...feeling very positive today. Weekends can be "challenging" but kept focused this last one...exercised both days, tracked all my foods...only area that I dropped the ball was drinking water but today will refocus on that. Went shopping and refrig is FULL of fresh fruits/veggies...LOVE Costco's chopped kale salad. Today trying a Spark recipe: broccoli soup and I get to use my immersion blender :-) Making a firm promise to myself to get in minimum of 10,000 steps has worked. Linking the BodyMedia armlink to Sparks has been very useful. Wishing everyone a terrific week.

I have done so well in the past, until I took my happy hiney back to work after 4 years. Now, I don't seem to be eating as well. Not so much the quantity, but the quality. Sodium has become an obstacle for me. I am continuing to eat my whole grains and veggies. But I think it is boiling down to the sodium and carbs that score too high on the glycemic index for me.

Tomorrow will be day 15 with no days off work. Tonight I am extremely tired. My weekend job is very boring. I got off work last night, visited with my in-laws then slept for 10 hours. I do so much better with my mental alertness with 5-6 hours of sleep. But when my body does sleep 10, it obviously needs it.

Tomorrow, I will be on the treadmill again. Hope to be back to the weights too this week.

I am so happy that I have this new group of Sparkers to help keep me motivated too.

For me it's more of having time In the morning. I have to leave at 6:30. I thought if the lettuce was cut up and ready to throw in a bowl I would be more likely to eat a salad for lunch. My husband prefers to cut a wedge from the head so cutting up a head of lettuce won't work.

I had a lazy day yesterday. I did play on my Wii Fit for about 10 minutes. We did our grocery shopping and bought lots of fruits and veggies. I bought a bag of pre-cut lettuce to make quick salads for lunch.

Had a great day! Walked with my dog for 40 minutes then headed out to a free Heart Health Fair with my husband. Got my blood pressure taken-110/78. Blood sugar-55, a little low but I had fasted before going so they said that would be about right for someone who had not eaten. Cholesterol was great at 147 with a HDL of 73. The only area of concern was my weight and the PA gave me kudos for joining a gym, walking my dog, and watching my calorie intake. I told her about Sparkpeople and she said it sounded like a great site and wrote down the site info. I told her this site was my inspiration on many levels. After the fair, I headed to my part-time job as dog walker and got some more walking time in. Spent another 45 minutes at the gym for strength training and cardio. Felt terrific after picking up a few things at the store and home for the evening and a healthy dinner. As I said, great day. emoticon

Yesterday was just a loss for me. I skipped my workout, didn't walk at lunch, and ate like a pig last night. Today is going to be better. I only did 13 minutes on my Wii Fit Plus this morning, but that's better than nothing. I have healthy food packed for the day too.

Feeling pretty good so far. Did my weigh-in and found that I've lost 3.5 pounds, which was pretty exciting! Currently enjoying a late breakfast and some coffee and catching up on some shows I have recorded on my DVR. Later, it'll be time for a light lunch and some exercising (I've had some lower back pain this week, so I haven't gotten much exercising in, even though I wanted to!)

So far so good this morning. Got exercise trying to catch our youngest dog. High winds damaged our fence & she found a way out because I was distracted while the dogs were out in the yard and I took my eyes off her. She finally came back while I was is the neighbor's yard & laid at my feet with her tail tucked, knew she was bad. Trying to figure where the sodium on my tracker is coming from since I don't use salt and I not using canned fruit or vegs(understand it if I used anything but fresh). Will do my regular exercise this afternoon.

I'm not looking forward to the few days. DH has decided that the crack in the ceiling (been there 5 yrs) must be repaired immediately. Workmen are coming tomorrow to start tearing it down, they will be here friday & finishing up on Sat. The weather is cold & snowny, we have 5 small dogs who bark when strangers are in the house coming & going. Can't put them outside because of cold. Also Sat is the day our 2 small GDs (2yr & 4 yr) stay at our house while Mom & Dad work (this happens every other Sat). They will be working where the living room & hall connect so it is where everyone goes thru to playroom, bathroom, & bedrooms. He knows I don't handle chaos well any more. No the crack has not gotten larger in the past couple of years.
I'm doing well with my eating & getting some exercise everyday. Have lost this past week.

Good Morning team! I have been working one job and training for another. So I have been in a chaotic mess, lol. This is the first chance that I have had to read and not just skim over comments.

I am so happy to see you all working toward a new healthy lifestyle! Whatever your individual goals are, we are here to cheer you on. Always remember, on the toughest days, emoticon !

I look forward to reading more about you all and your efforts!!! emoticon

I had a good day emoticon I worked 11 hours, came home and made dinner for my family, did the dishes, went on the elliptical for 29 minutes(should have made it an even 30-looks and sounds better) and did 20 push ups. I feel like I am on a roll!

Lost 45 lb before joining SparkPeople. Need support & friends to keep me motivated and on track to lose the last 28 lb and finally reach my goal weight.

I went for a short walk/run this morning, I feel pretty good :) I've been trying to get motivated to go for a run lately and haven't been able to but today i felt motivated, i am guessing its because I've been working out the last two days and am afraid that if i don't for one day i wont be motivated anymore.

Good Morning Sunshines!! emoticon

Hope everyone got some good sleep last night. emoticon When you break your fast, hope it is something good and satiating. For me, that is usually something protein w/good fat. So this morning it was steak and eggs. emoticon

Hope you have a fantastic day filled with good choices! emoticon
