I use Mio flavor in my water and it has not effected me at all. Meat weigh it out.
Well, I am not such a follower of the rules I guess. I would avoid those sugar free flavor enhancers and instead put lemon or fruits in your water to change the taste. I also count my hot teas as water intake. As for portion sizes, I go by calories. On my no carb days I have more protein because usually calorie wise I can afford it. I will have 6 ounces of chicken breast many times at night. It all depends on how many calories you can afford to have each day. I've only read the one book but I think those portion sizes are to give you an idea if you don't measure. I've always measured so still measure everything and weigh my meat.

I actually have the same question regarding water. I know some programs allow something like"water on the go" sugarfree flavorings to count as water, and other programs do not. I am not certain about carb cycling. I even asked the quest on Chris' facebook page and never got an answer. In warmer months, I don't usually have a problem getting straight water in, but in these colder months, I prefer some type of flavoring. Being that I have been struggling with the program since the Holidays, I can't say whether the flavored water hinders me or not at this point. During summer when I first started, I was able to get in 80 oz of straight water, and the rest I used flavored. I could use some help with this too.
On a side note, my sis's home is well water and tastes like rotten eggs...she uses the Brita pitcher filter which helps alot! I use one too even though I am on city water. Just an FYI.

Hello! I am new to this group and starting carb cycling almost two weeks ago and I have some questions. Our water tastes like poo (lol) so unless I'm at home drinking Culligan our office keeps LOTS of MIO or sugar free flavorings like that. Does anybody else do that and see a difference in drinking just plain water or does it matter?
Also I want to verify portion. In the book it says to go by my hand (palm) for a portion size. What do you follow? I'm asking causing to me 3oz is not enough protein to sustain me.
I'm asking cause I have type 2 diabetes and I work out 40 min a day on the low carb and 30 on the high, and I have to eat enough to let me work out and sustain me.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
