Well my weight is not as quick as I would like but but I did my measurements after a month and I am down 1 inch from my neck all the way down to my calves. My waist went down 1/12 inches. So it means it is working. I am trying to see which cycle fits me best and what I can stick with right now.

IF you FAILto PLAN you PLAN to FAIL!!!

I finally got the activity tracker, snowed again last night, but won't be able to get to the gym now until maybe Friday. Kind of hard with the two jobs.

Hi friends,
I'm a newbie at carb cycling and know I will need daily motivation. Especially on those days of social activities... Day 1 of LC begins today. I made a smoothie for meal #1.. onward.. Looking forward to getting to know you!

lynn - when I am doing really well, I usually only eat chicken or turkey breast, some types of fish. When I make my meatloaf, I use the leanest ground beef I can find and sometimes add ground turkey to it. I find if I use just ground beef, it still seems a bit greasy, but if I just use ground turkey, it needs more seasoning (which I very rarely use) and can be a bit drier, thus I combine the two. I don't know if that helps or answer your question...its just what I try to do.

I ate higher fat yesterday than on plan. this is frustrating me. it was a low carb day. that is the only thing off and my weight is up. i was excited to check my weight and then more than a tad disappointed. i kept it pretty low carb

anyone find that they have to stick to leaner meat??

Kat good luck with the job(s). and dentist.

Good morning...Thanks for your comment Lynn. You're right, I know I can do this...I was doing so well a few months ago and then Holidays messed me up..so I basically have thrown January away...but it is still early in Feb and 3 weeks to get back to where I was. I need to make sure I check in here every day because that helps. I did that with one of my other teams, but now it seems the activity there has died...and if I don't get support, I find I do the same thing. Unfortunately I don't get any family support either.

Next week, I start another part time job (one that I have worked for before), so at least for tax season I will have 2 part time jobs, but it still keeps my future unclear, and that is when I want to eat. I'm hoping the morning job that I start on Mon will change the hours, they may want a few people to come in at 6 am. Not that I really want to do that, but it would really help me...to force myself up early for work...then I would have a few hours to workout which is just down the road from the first job. Then I could come home, clean up and let Onyx out, and go to my tax job...it would be alot less running around and keep me going so I don't focuss on wanting to eat. I just need a few weeks to get me back on track (although, these jobs still won't ay the bills and need a "rea" job)

By the way, I still have a broken tooth because the dentist never called me back from last week...I finally had to call to find out what they plan on doing...but that is this town I live in. Sorry for rambling, but just needed to get this out.

Have a great day to all and thanks for your support.

Kat--you can do it! I just weighed today and I was up.

Now I know he warns against weighing daily so I wait impatiently for the weight to go ! Maybe tomorrow will be better. Maybe the rice noodles were too carb - y . Who knows

Pushing forward

Good afternoon all. Took mom shopping today with sis, so I picked up a bunch of vegetables to make another batch of soup...but this time I am changin how I normally make it so I can have it everyday. Usually, I put various beans in and carrots in to make it heartier, but not doing that this time. This way I can have some everyday without worrying about the carb content.

Have a great day!

I am on day 4. I feel like this time I am giving a good effort. Hope the results are apparent soon.

I am still reading the books again too. I am almost done with book 1 . As I remember book 2 made more sense or was an easier read for some reason. ??

Good luck everyone!

Good morning. Yay! I think I am gettin my motivation back...have a great food day yesterday and will be getting to the gym a little later. On the other hand, went to the dentist, they didn't do anything yet...checking on prices for partial gold crown, but will need to come up with the money at one time...don't think that is going to happen. I may just have them fill the opening and take it from there...but basically threw away $60 for sitting in the chair yesterday. :(

Hi to all...I am having a good day today...even though I have to leave shortly to go to the dentist...a little worried about it. I am back on carb cycling...Lynn, I too fell off over the Holidays, which ended up being about 5 weeks. I do the turbo cycle which is what looks like on the Vemme Bod e that you seem to be following. I too gained 10 pounds, was originally hoping for only 5, but as I said, it has been 5 weeks being off. Now, I am just hoping to get those 10 off by the end of my challenge on another team which is about 3 weeks, maybe 4, so I can start the next challenge where I originally left off. Need to start getting back to the gym...that is so important for me.

Have a great day to all.

hi everyone. I see some new faces and old faces since I was last here.

I fell off the carb cycle mainly b/c I was too tired/busy/lazy/confused trying to follow it. BUT after doing very little and gaining 10 pounds, I am finally committed. tried a different plan the past month but couldn't stick to it. Then I remembered Chris Powell. Dug out the book and restarted yesterday. I started the plan that is connected to his Vemma Bode` app. M&T low carb. Wed high, TH&F low. S/S high.
I recall also that I went overboard with a cheat "day" so just planning on a cheat "meal" for lunch on Sundays.

I am so sorry about the job and all the $$$ stress, but you can't allow that to control your stomach either (trust me I am working on that). You can do this and we are here for you!

The thread that I am on all the time is Cycling in 2014. I started it for me as a place to record my daily thoughts and keep me accountable. You are welcome to join me on that thread all you want. It is a little lonely there.

Tammie and Michelle:
Thank you so much for your responses and votes of confidence. I still don't know which forum I should be going to in order to check in every day...wether it be this one or the carbing to 2014. I see Tammie you are on that one all the time...but you tell me because I have got to get myself back together again. I know and realize the Holidays always get me down after...but I have to pull it together again. I heard a week ago I didn't get a job that I was more tan qualified for, so that put me in another tail spin. Right now I just started a part time tax prep job...usually right now I would be working full time doing taxes, but alas, that company terminated their program...I'm just gald another place took me on part time with less money, but at least I get to work as my UI ran out. It won't even pay my rent much less anything else. Thus I get dismayed and feel useless, not to mentione I have to live off credit cards again, after I work so hard to pay them off. But, it helps me to feel good that you are here for me...I mean this sincerely. Thank you...I think now that I know this, I can get back on track...til tomorrow!

Have a great day!

Tammie - I do those two things also...and I have created a weight chart in excell that I renew every year, but keep the old ones so I can see how far I have come (or gone). That is actually what I put my pix on.

Thought I would check out this forum. I am new to this team, although have been carb cycling for a few months. Some of the visual tactics I use are I keep teo pictures on the wall behind my computer so when I look up I seem them. One is a business picture I had taken of me for when I was a Realtor, the other is sitting on the ground with the two dogs I had at the time. Both pictures were taken on the same day when I was at my goal weight ( and a bit younger!) The other tactic I use is I have a string of paper clips having on the wall representing one pound that I want to lose, after my weekly weigh-in, I get to take off the number of clips of pounds I have lost. May be silly, but it helps for my visualizations.

In January, I will join the challenges on the page below, and hope other people will share what they do.

Okay, we are all carb cycling. But, hav e you ever stopped to think why it works? Let me see if I can explain this to help.

I wish I could draw on here. But, I can't emoticon . So, let's look at someone who simply cuts calories. Imagine a straight horizontal line. That is your metabolism. Now, imagine another line below it. That is your calorie intake where you have cut calories. We are going to put a rubber band around them so it has both lines in it. The rubber band it stretched to it max. So, we are going along eating a steady low calorie diet. No changes really. What starts to happen is the pull on the rubber band starts to bring the metabolism line down because the rubber band it getting weaker. As it gets closer to your calorie deficit, it starts to get comfortable and basically they run in a horizontal line one on top of the other. Sure, you may still lose a little bit of weight. But, you are probably going to hit a big plateau and maybe even lose some muscle.

Now, let's take the same two lines and the rubber band on carb cycling. You once again start out at a calories deficit. After a day or two, you increase your carbs to increase your calories. This means the calorie line goes up close to the metabolism line. Then, you go back into a bigger calorie deficit. And so on and so forth. The relief of coming up to the metabolism through high carb doesn't wear the rubber band out as much.

This brings me to the reason for the sling shot week. That rubber band is going to get worn out eventually. So, the sling shot week allows that rubber band to rest and for your body to replace the rubber band if it needs to be replaced before you do it all over again.

Now, where does the cheat day play into this? Well, it is what it is. This is the day to get your cravings (within reason) out of the way.

~~Ricky~~

Rick, that is so very true. I have had my ups and downs over the years. I have hit bumps and major stumbles but as long as we keep trying we will never be on the wrong path. I love your motivation.

“Stumbling is not falling.” ~Portuguese Proverb

This is so true. We all are going to stumble by eating something we shouldn't, not giving it our all, or something like that. The beautiful thing about it is that it is just human nature.

Do you know the difference in a stumble and falling?

A stumble is like a little bump in the road that you trip over. Sure, you may almost do a face plant into the road. But, you catch yourself or some friends from Spark People are there to catch you.

Falling is the same as a stumble except you don't get yourself back up. You sit there and cry that you want to get up. But, when people try to help you, you refuse to do it.

So, when you stumble just remember that you are human. All it takes is for you to be willing to stand back up, dust yourself off, and moving on.

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.” ~Larry Elder

One of the key things in weight loss is to set goals. Setting this goal can be the fine line you need between success and failure. These goals provide you bridge to cross over into a healthy lifestyle. Yes, that bridge may crack and you may stumble a little bit. But, it can be done!

So great! You have a goal of losing 100 pounds! Whoa Hoss! emoticon . Okay, first it is an awesome goal! But, is that your only goal emoticon . That is a great long term goal. But, lets think short term.

If you saw the show on Tuesday night, Chris set up weekly goals for Cassandra when she was having trouble focusing on her big goal. He set weekly mini goals for her. And, it worked!

So, lets use me as an example. I weigh 454 right now emoticon . I should weigh around 180. So, my goal is to lose 274 pounds. When I think of that, it is overbearing. Even now looking at that number, I am thinking there is no way I can do that.

So, I don't want to overwhelm myself. So, lets reduce that and say I want to lose 18 pounds over the next month. Okay, so that is a little bit more realistic. But, it can still be overwhelming to a point.

So, lets break it down a little bit more. Lets make a weekly goal. So, for a week, I want to lose 4.5 pounds. Now, that is doable.

Okay, so now I know some will say that it is not safe to lose more than 2 pounds a week. Or, maybe some will say that if you lose more than 2 pounds a week you are losing muscle. I was worried about that until I researched it and found an answer.

The truth is you can lose more than 2 pounds a week and do it safely. The two pounds thing was just a benchmark goal to give to people. There are many things that determine how much fat your body can lose in a week. The truth is the larger you are, the more you can safely lose because you are carrying the extra fat. And, your body will burn the fat as long as you are eating the protein your body needs. .

But, there is a limit on how much you should lose per week. The rule of thumb is no more than 1% of your body weight per week. So, lets see how that calculates up for me. I weigh 454 pounds as we have already established. 1% of my body weight is 4.54 pounds. So, I am on right on check for that.

With that being said, if you lose ANYTHING in a week, celebrate it. If you didn't meet your goal, reassess your diet and exercise and see if you can improve. But, do not beat yourself up because you didn't meet the goal.

Now, for those who don't use a scale. Get an item or two of clothes that is a couple of sizes too small for you. Each week, try it on and see if it fits better. You will be in that outfit in no time.

Well I thought I would post a tip that I use at home to keep me motivated. I have a pants that I want to be able to fit into as a goal, so I tacked them up on my wall where I pass by them before I head into my kitchen. I also plan my meals so I keep my meal planner on my fridge's door to help me stick to what I need to eat that day.

At the end of day it's not about what you "CAN" do or "PLANNED" to do- it's about what you DID.

Fat is choice - it's time I stopped making bad choices!!!
