Happy New Year's Eve Sole Sparkers!
No resolutions for me this year other than staying in maintenance.

Kayah- I wish I could hide/subdue my emotions, but my face/eyes give me away!

Karen- We've been in the 70s

On the topic of grey hair, I have one that I've let grow out since last October! emoticon Silly I know, but I'm using it as a measuring stick to see how fast my hair grows. Even my stylist wants to yank it out when she sees me emoticon

Happy New Years Eve Sparklers!

Kayah, sounds like you've been really busy but happy. I feel the same about company in my house. I like people, but being really shy and introverted I deal much better with very small groups of people at a time and I'd rather not host the company. I find that to be just a job, very stressful and not enjoyable at all.

I also just read recently someone elses definition of goals vs. resolutions and it's similiar to yours. They said that resolutions are more or less about changing who you are. Goals, on the other hand, give you something to aim for that can help you improve your current life situation. I like theirs and your definitions Kayah.

Grey hair shows up early on my dads side of the family.

Dee, I hope you're having a warm and safe and happy new year. We're expecting about 12" of snow by Jan 1st afternoon. Yippy Skippy!! Now that it's 2014 I'm so ready for Spring and ditching my snow bunny gear!

I'm working on my bucket list starting this this month. I"m at home enjoying apple cinnamonn tea and watching the New years festivities, waiting for the ball drop on times square.

See you in 2014 and may your coming year be fantastic!

Hi Dee, Karen!

Yeah Dee I'm kinda a casual person by nature and Paolo said if I ever was excited he wouldn't know unless it was The Broncos winning the Super Bowl lol. Yeah, I'm low key but I was excited and happy to be married certainly.

Karen, I am one of those wrappers of presents who tries to make it pretty enough but easy. I wrap as I go for Christmas since it can be a stressful time and Paolo helps me wrap since he's not pulling the I work more than you card. He knows it isn't true because I pick up more slack than he does around the house and with the 2 young ones. I don't mind because he does the heavy lifting.

Happy New Years Eve! Its sunny here in the city of sin and I've been out already and climbed the mountain at my park. It felt good to get back into the swing of things. Had to run a few errands and pick up a few library books. I wanted to get done early because around 6 is when the police start shutting down streets and freeway exits over by The Strip to get ready for the New Years celebration. I'll see it from my office window and TV thank you very much. I'll be warmer as well so there is that. Its nice to have my house back and able to have more quiet as well, even the kids said no more visitors for a long while please, lol.

I like New Years Goals but not resolutions, its just a difference in words really but when you are specific and concrete than your affirmations are easier to see, its more concrete instead of general statements that have no plan for success.

I am back on my game so I am pleased about that, its hard when you have visitors to do what you need to do in your own home since its full to the brim. I basically could only walk outside when I could jam that into my packed schedule. Yes, no more visitors for a long while. My January goals are hitting my Spark Page tonight and I think they are reasonable to expect for the month of January. I was thinking about doing my hair in 2014 every 6 weeks instead of every month since it is an expense but I suppose I do feel better when I don't look like I am aging so much. I'm early 40's right but white hair can age you some, even if most comments I get are "I can't believe you are over 40." Yeah, I try and keep myself in good shape physically and mentally. My cousin who is a few months older than me said I look very good for being the same age as she is, lol. She looks good because she keeps up with herself now, she was quite overweight for a long while there but she told me she wanted to be healthy again in life, she uses weight watchers to help her stay on point! She told me she was jealous of me never having to worry about my weight. I told her would she have liked to deal with my health issues instead I'd almost trade for it lol.

Let's stay on track as much as we can day by day in 2014!

Happy Sunday Sparklers!

Congratulations Kayah! Sounds like you had a very nice holiday indeed! I love seeing the creative wrapping of gifts from others, but alas, I tend to stick to the more simple but pretty techniques.

I'm ending my first petsitting job this morning, but now it's home for a day to gear up for another week of petsitting another dog starting tomorrow, so no rest for me. Mom misses having another person home, even though I call her every day. I don't think she eats as well, because she doesn't want to fix for just one and it's harder for her to get around with the walker in the kitchen.

Hope you're having a great day today and a great week coming up!

Hi all, I'm saying hi and belated Merry Christmas, New Year's Eve is Tuesday night so early Happy New Year! I'm staying in for New Years definitely especially being here.

I agree with Karen about a little post Christmas holiday let down but I came out of that quickly. I guess being married will do that to you and I refuse to partake of negativity, feeling down or any other silly. I think this has been my busiest Christmas ever, it was nice but I haven't been getting in the walking steps as I want. I'm used to being in the 15,000 range or higher a day. It feels like there is always something to do and I have the last visitors in town so I'll be able to get back on my game Monday or Tuesday with my walking steps.

Dee & Karen, I love my daily planner, keeps me on top of my game and organised. Lists keep me from forgetting anything. Dee, you were a trooper to help wrap presents. I put clothes and other things in bags and wrapped what was necessary for the guessers not to be able to guess until they opened the gift. Plus I wrapped as I went so I wasn't overwhelmed like my sister usually is and I helped her with some of her wrapping the night before.

We've had sun and its been round 60 here in Sin City but no sun yet today. If its not too cold around noon I'm going for at least an hour walk since Paolo is working until about 3 today. He'll be off until the 2nd then which will be a nice break for him since it was a busy year for him. The 2 young ones are fine and the nieces and cousins (all girls, except for one young teenager man, so the girls all play together.)

Yes, I think Santa did nicely this year bringing me a tablet (too much tech sigh) Amazon gift cards, FitBit Force, walking shoes gift card for Skechers and a surprise marriage which was good so I don't have the going over to the Strip thing in January. The SO was tired of waiting and figured I would appreciate it as well.

Have to run and have breakfast, ttyl~

TGIF Sole Sparkers!

Gotta work tomorrow, but it's ok. I get to spend time with the boyfriend. He's off 3 days next week and volunteered to help me out, he's awesome, I know!

Karen- The boyfriend and I spend New Year's watching The Twighlight Zone Marathon. We don't go out either, definitely for amateurs emoticon

Happy Friday Everyone!

I hope you all had a great Christmas and Santa was good to you. I was just sitting here thinking how it feels like a let down after Christmas day is over. There is so much pressure and frenzy about everything Christmas for 1 - 3 months before that, that when "THE DAY" has come and gone, it feels very boring - like the alcoholic hangover.

I know this is the time to reflect on the past and set up goals for the future, but the routine daily things seem really insignificant right now.

Not to worry, everything is fine. Just reflecting on the difference in feeling pre / post holiday saturation.

So who as plans for New Years? I will be pet sitting another couple next week but will stop in and see mom, maybe order pizza. I know, really exciting! Anymore, it's expensive to go out and we always have the DUI checkpoints so it's not really worth it. Amateur night, rather stay home.

Be safe whatever your plans and here's hoping 2014 is awesome for all of us!

75 degrees??? Dee, I don't hate you, but I sure am jealous! (imagine my teeth chattering as I say that! ) Supposed to get in the 30's I think just so it can then snow. The perks of living in Illinois!

Went to see mom Christmas Eve day. Since I couldn't stay so long, we had pizza, Xmas cookies, and hot chocolate for dinner. Delicious, yes - healthy, not so much.

Enjoy your Christmas day!

Hi Everyone,

Dee, you're a good sis for wrapping the gifts. Looks like it's just you and me here. I hope you have a great holiday time with your family and time at home.

I"m currently spending the week dog sitting for some friends, but tomorrow and Wednesday, weather permitting, I'll try to spend time with relatives and with mom, who can't travel right now and will otherwise be alone for the holiday. If I can't it will be me and my to golden retriever pals hangin' out.

It's a "balmy" 18 degrees this week. Except for the cold, we seem to be missing most of the snow, rain, ice etc that the rest of the country seems to be engaging in. Lucky for us.

Sweet dreams,

Karen

Good Morning Sparklers,

I also like calendars and day planners. As much as I like to think I can remember everything, the fact is - NOT! I guess I might also be slightly into making lists so it feels like I accomplished more when I check them off.

That's great Dee, that you get to see your family on Christmas but still get to spend time at home. As the aunts and uncles get older and the cousins marry and have 2 family sides to attend and some move further away, our celebrations together get smaller and quieter. Changes in life, but still good.

It's been raining since about Wednesday or Thursday, the temp dropped and today it's snowing. Roads are slick, fortunately I'm not going anywhere today so it's ok for me.

Have a great day, everyone!

Sparktacular Saturday Sole Sparkers!

Kayah- I just got my planner for 2014, I feel like such a nerd cuz it makes me giddy.

Karen- Not sure what we're doing Christmas. We've never actually celebrated any specific way. When I was in high school I'd spend the night at a friends house and celebrate with their family. Since moving out with the boyfriend we hand out gifts to my mom, sis, and nephew early and stay home.

I hope you're all having a super Saturday Sparkers!

Getting ready to stay with my 2 canine friends Apache and Cochise today thru the 29th. I went to gas up my car and the sticker shock of a 40 cent spike in one day shouldn't have been a surprise I guess, but will someone please explain the gas game rules to me? Why does gas drop a few cents at a time over several weeks and then spike upward 40 cents overnight?

In any case, I'm grateful I have a car that runs and is paid for (and has a full tank of gas!), the snow is mostly melting, and I have family and friends online, like you, and off. Mom and I are doing alright and we've even been blessed with some home made goodies from friends.

So how do you celebrate Christmas and New Years? Do any of you celebrate other traditions like Hannakuh or Kwanza?

I grew up Lutheran. I'll come home, weather permitting, to spend time with mom on Christmas Eve and on Christmas day I'll divide my day between mom and the relatives. New Years is pretty quiet at home with a goody tray and New Years programming or a good movie. And of course watching the ball drop in times square. And reflecting on things I want to accomplish in the coming year.

Have a great day my friends!

Karen

Hi SS'ers! It has been a busy week doing tasks getting ready for Christmas. I have been pretty active but not able to get in the steps by concentrated walking like I usually do. Its okay because I will get on track Sunday and this week. I busted my calories Friday but I'll make better choices starting today. Going to make a soup today and sending out a Priority Package today to arrive on Christmas Eve for a friend in Cali. I send him a Daily Planner every year from Moleskine, plus a ton of odds and ends and a letter.
Hoping everyone has a good holiday week and Christmas! Do your best to stay on track and get in that exercise to feel balanced~

Hi everyone!

Half day at work for me today and then just Monday and I'm off until the 30th. The constant eating has already begun. I'm just trying to keep it to 5 lbs minimum I think. Making sure to hit the treadmill for at least 45 every day, I hope it helps.

I'll probably be just as MIA as I have been even though I won't be at work. So much family in town and lots of plans, but I'll try to check in when I finish my run and am having my coffee and breakfast.

Just in case, everyone have a WONDERFUL holiday!

Paula

Happy Thursday ladies,

Hope you're all having a great day and a better weekend coming up.

I finished delivering the cookies we baked and the Irish Cream I made. Tonight I helped a friend decorate their tree and got to play with their dogs for a little while.

Starting to rain and fog tonight so hopefully most of the snow will melt.

Sweet Dreams for now,

Hi everyone!

Wow I'm not sure how I missed this thread. I hope everyone is doing well and having a great holiday so far.

Yes, Paula, it's been cold around the windy city. Supposed to be in the 30's thru the end of the month. We have several inches of snow so it's pretty right now.

Been a busy week so far, cleaning house, grocery shopping, baking and delivering cookies and Irish cream to give as gifts, and making sure mom is set for the next 2 weeks while I'm dog sitting for friends. It's unfortunate that it's 12/21 thru 1/7 but that's the way it goes sometimes. The first week I won't be home every day but definitely for xmas and the second week, I'm closer so I can see her every day.

Good luck for all of you who are doing the virtual run you posted. May you all run like the wind!

Stay warm,

Karen

Wholly moley was it a LONG day yesterday! At work before sunrise, laundry and errands afterwards, didn't make it back home until well after the sun set. There are not enough hours in Saturday, I swear.

OMG, HI!!!!

Wow, this month has flown by and I've missed so much here. Work is SO busy. I barely have time to check my email and log my food.

I posted a Virtual 5k today, thanks to Dee for the suggestion!

So today, I am Christmas shopping. Hopefully finishing. Sharon has to do some more work to do at her parents (she's been painting their attic bedroom before Christmas guests arrive) and I'm shopping for her presents. I have absolutely nothing for her yet. I do at least have some ideas. She is IMPOSSIBLE to shop for. Never wants anything. I'm done with most of her family and most of mine, but I have a TON of places to go, in the SNOW. We're getting it all day today and tomorrow.

I hope that Trish is finally getting warmer. Karen, what about you? Chicago was pretty cold too, no? We had some frigid days here in NE Ohio, but when I took the dogs out it wasn't too bad.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Did some shopping last night, including something for myself (OOPS). I got myself a new pair of jeans from Old Navy. I love theirs, they fit me so well. I got my first pair of skinny jeans. I decided they don't feel much different than my running tights. Except they waist is bigger and more comfortable! LOL

I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday and I will check in tomorrow!

No silent treatment Dee, It was just very busy with work for a few days there. 10 bonus points from a spin I made earlier for SS, whoop there it is lol!

I actually went out walking this evening which served a triple purpose. One was to get off the treadmill for a night. Two, I wanted to look at Christmas lights and Décor and Three to get air, do walking intervals and see if my hat and gloves were warm enough. The weather is warming up some during the day which started today so I am taking advantage while the getting is good. I saw Yoda and Darth Vader with their light sabers in one yard and Hello Kitty on another! One yard had a more religious theme with the manger scene!

Another shooting in Colorado, sigh! Its time to get serious about mental illnesses in this country and get weapons out of the hands as much as possible for people who have no business having them.

Will do some shopping Monday and after doing hair Thursday since I have JCPenney coupons & need a pair of walking shoes and if I can find more long sleeves shirts that would be good! Getting together the last Christmas presents I need to deal with and then Bourbon Balls I will be making Sunday. Its good to do that on my rest day from walking so I can relax, watch football and roll up bourbon balls~

Happy weekend, kayah*****

Hey Sole Sparkers Happy Tuesday!

Its still pretty cold here but in a few days it looks to be getting up to 53 degrees in the daytime, that's almost a heat wave considering the last week. The only reason I haven't been freezing my duff off is because I have been doing exercise. I thought I would only take one day off from exercise on Sunday but I decided I needed one more day from the physical activity before jumping back in the exercise today. I already have over 6000 steps and I plan on somewhere round 20K steps today.

I do like walking but sometimes I just wish I could jog, but I get it my body is not like an average person. I can walk upright so that is a good thing and my knees are much stronger. I am also pretty flexible and limber so that's a great thing. So best to limit the high impact activity. Plus there are a lot of other things I can do.

Be safe & strong today everyone & get in that activity~

Good to hear from you Kayah. If walking is your thing, don't worry about running. Sounds like you are getting plenty of fitness if you rack up 25,000 steps in a day. Wow!

Dee - so sorry to hear you are cold. I've been freezing for days now. Will be so glad when this artic system is over! We were colder here this weekend than Antarctica was. That is sad!

Sparktacular Sunday Sole Sparkers!

Hey Kayah.

I can't believe I didn't check in yesterday! It was a long day. Worked 8 hours, then ran our usual Saturday errands afterwards. It was cold and rainy. Today was just cold. I won't embarrass myself by giving temperatures emoticon

Have a healthy week everyone!

Hello Sole Sparkers, its kayah, I know its been a while since I've checked in here but I did some culling down of my teams so I am at a manageable level able to keep up with my people. Its my December and 2014 goal! (You'll see me 3 times a week at least!)

I read up with what's been going on with everybody. Dee, hope your sister & mom continue to improve and see results from their changes. At one point my Doctor thought he may have to remove my gallbladder but the result was GERD instead. I wasn't looking forward to my 8th operation in life, lol! Stay warm at work and everywhere. Over here in Sin City its been pretty cold for a week, they thought we might get snow today but no go yet. I can live without snow.

Trish, sorry about your computer and vehicle, hopefully things look up soon in those areas. A few weeks back I was in a department store and I was going to buy an accessory scarf but I have so many pair (hats & scarves) what I need are gloves really, I only have a black pair. Hope the computer system at work is doing fine for you as well.

KarrenLynn, hope your tree came up alright even with the new lights and all. Hopefully your mother is doing well & holding steady. I do agree with IndyGirl, I had read her entry about not eating foods unless we really wanted them. I did well on Thanksgiving and exercised that day and made sure to eat only what I truly wanted to have. I had a small piece of lemon cake for dessert because I'm not so much a dessert person but I dig that lemon cake.

Paula, I hope your work has slowed down a little and your home sells in a reasonable amount of time. I sold my old house in winter last year so it is possible! Its been almost a year since I've lived back on the left side of the country. I love seeing all the mountains around me everyday. It is pretty cold right now but in March I'll have forgotten all about it likely :)

This next year I was considering getting in a running program but I've had skeletal and bone issues so I have to be careful with high impact activity. I do like my walking and yesterday I came in at just over 25,000 steps for the day. I jog a little on my treadmill but interval walking seems to satisfy my urge to full out run!

Happy Sunday all~

Happy Hump Day Sole Sparkers!

Karen- My sis feels pain in waves, but she was given pain meds to take. She's all bruised, too. From her incision areas and from all 6 veins they punctured when trying to get her IV going. She was a pincushion that day.
Mmmm...National Cookie Day. I said no to gingerbread cookies this morning emoticon

Trish- I've also read on a thread (in the Team Leaders team) that people don't like having to input separate workout stuff for each team challenge.
I had a bad day yesterday, too. But I brought my mini cycle from work to use it while watching The Biggest Loser, so that's what I did. Paula's been busy at work this week, but I'm sure she'll stop by soon.

Karen - my van is at that point too - a well used machine that I wish I could replace but it isn't in the cards yet. Computer Dude is still working on my computer. Waiting for him to show up this morning to finish it. At least I have internet access while I wait. I'm crocheting a lot of scarves right now. Some are for warmth and some are accessory type scarves that people seem to be wearing a lot these days. I'll try to get some photos posted soon. It is 2 degrees this morning so still trying to stay warm. The 10 inches of snow we got looks beautiful though.

Dee - you are probably right. I'm not putting my 20 minutes in for yesterday. Even though I am racking up fitness minutes because of my FitBit, I didn't actually exercise yesterday so to me that doesn't count. I choose to be lazy after my day ended up going so badly. That is a whole other story I'll probably blog about. That always helps me!

Missing Paula here! Are you out there Paula?

Hi ladies,

Trish, our high is 53 today with fog and rain, but tomorrow it drops by 22 degrees and 10 more the rest of the week. Be careful, and stay warm. You said you were doing lots of crocheting these days. What are you making? Do we get pictures? How did your computer conversion go? Did the computer dude get there and everything went smoothly?

Dee, how is your sister doing after her surgery? Hope she's doing well and can come home soon.

Paula, How did your data transfer go? Hope all is well,

Yesterday I finished decorating our bigger tree and today I'll finish our table top tree. I'm also forced to go buy a car battery that my friend is going to help me buy and install. The car is a 15 year old car that I love, but it's old enough to start costing more than it's worth, but getting a new one isn't an option right now so new battery, here I come!

I heard today is National Cookie Day and the impulse to pay tribute is strong. Hang tough girls, I know you can do it!

Hope you're all having a fabulous Wednesday.

Good Morning everyone!

I finally got back on my treadmill last night. Felt great! Now to keep up the momentum.

Dee - I wish more people would sign up for the challenges. Thank you for leading it this month.

Glad to hear surgery went well too.

Karen - I have not even thought about decorating yet. Good for you! Glad to hear your Mom recognizing Christmas too. That is important. DD was worried I'd cancel Christmas due to DS but I told her no way! Christmas is too important and I want to make it as special for her as I can.

Yes, the storm is a bad one. Schools closed in the outlying areas, bad roads, lots of wrecks. It is 11 degrees right now and the temp is continuing to drop. I worry about animals, especially pets that are out and have no protection.

Plan for today - Strength Training and Zumba at the gym after work.

I'm going on 16 hours of being awake emoticon So ready to call it a day. Thank you all for your kind words. We were at the hospital until 1pm! She's taking the whole week off work and hopefully recovers quickly. I'm really hoping this opens her eyes and changes her eating habits.

Hi Ladies,

Dee, I'm keeping your family in my prayers that all goes well for your sisters surgery and her recovery is swift and complete.

Paula, I hope your data transfer goes off without a hitch and your house is sold quickly.

Sounds like you've all been eating some great things and have had a good holiday weekend.

Trish, sometimes relaxing and not doing 100 things in the speed of light is actually getting the important things done. I'm glad you're finding ways to let yourself be happy even though not everything is the way to would wish.

I've started decorating at our house this weekend. Couple of hitches but could be worse. First not only did I have to drag the tree down from the attic without mom's help this year, I forgot that we pulled off all the lights because we couldn't fix them last year. (Made dragging the tree easier!) So I had to buy new lights and put them on first. (not my idea of fun) Then if you want ornaments on the inside of the tree, it takes way more ornaments and lots more time. So I'm not done yet but that's ok because with my father and brother passed away and my mothers health deteriorating, I was really afraid she wouldn't want to acknowledge the holiday at all, so it's all good.

Trish, our weather has be a little cold but for the most part good for December. Even a couple of 50 degree days. I hope the storms you blogged about aren't too bad and you're all safe and warm at home.

Happy December everyone!

Karen

I hope all goes well for your sister today Dee!

I'm still at home...we can't go in to work until noon today. I've not heard any different yet so I'm guessing the 800,0000 lines of data transfer to the new system worked. I would think I would hear in the next hour or so because they have to keep in mind some of us drive a longer distance.

Just did my workout and I'm having my coffee and then I'll eat and shower. I get to wear jeans to work all week and for today we were all given a tshirt to wear. They're trying to make it more relaxed because everyone is stressed out about it.

Have a great day!

Paula

Welcome to December Sole Sparkers! Lets make this a terrific month!

I can't believe my 4 day weekend is nearly over. It goes so fast. I feel like I've wasted lots of time this weekend too but in reality it has been nice to not have major commitments nor feel like I had to get my house perfectly cleaned or any of what comes with a major holiday. We ate out on Thanksgiving Day and I have to say that the entire meal was wonderful and I didn't overeat that way.

I made an amazing pumpkin custard with fresh pumpkin puree that I made from a Bountiful Basket pumpkin. That was a new experience for us. I have been over indulging in that - with fresh whipped cream! Yikes!

Planning to get my running program going again this month. I have been so lax with that. Depression keeps me from running. Then I see how much Paula talks about her running and I am jealous. Go figure!

Enjoy your Sunday ladies!

Trish

Our Black Friday shopping was the Chinese buffet and we went to buy picture frames and then later we went to buy flour, yogurt, and an apple studel for our dinner today with Josh. We're making a turkey breast, corn casserole, stuffing, sweet potatoes, apple strudel and maybe mashed potatoes if Josh wants them. He was with his dad and family on Thanksgiving so we figured we'd have dinner with him AND have our own leftovers for the week.

No run for me today. I slept in the same position all night long and am aching all over. My knees are telling me today is a rest day. I don't mess around when my knees ache. I don't want anything to keep me from my running for the rest of my life. My dad had knee replacement and his dad needed probably knees and hips so I'm extra careful.

So, on my old house news, we had the realtor over yesterday and as of Monday we are on the market. The neighborhood isn't good but the house is move in ready. We're starting at the top of what he thinks we can get in hopes that will give us enough room to drop the price when we need to. Right now it's priced where I would make about $1000 at the end of the day. We're prepared to take a loss to get rid of it. He did tell me I'm paying way too much for vacant home owners insurance and is going to get me some names of other companies.

So, if you're the praying kind, say a prayer that this house goes fast and I can stop paying for an empty house.

Header there in a bit to do some last minute stuff and add some more lights and light timers. He's taking pictures tomorrow and will either put the sign up then or Monday morning.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Paula

TGIF Sole Sparkers!

I guess I'm a food snob, at times. I went out to dinner with the boyfriend tonight and I ate more calories today than I did yesterday, but it was worth every calorie. Place called Chicago for Ribs (thought of you Karen!) I got the filet mignon, baked potato, mac and cheese, and a small peice of corn bread. I rarely get a craving for red meat, but when I do the boyfriend always takes me where he knows the filet is good. It was the only thing we bought for Black Friday, although I don't think it counts, right?

According to Indygirl, we should be food snobs so that if we are going to indulge today, that we only pick the very best most important foods to us. I like stove top stuffing, but agree with Paula that it's not what I prefer for the holiday offering.

Paula, I just wanted to know that you were alright, just busy, since you, Dee, Trish, and I seem to be the only regular contributors here.

I'm not Jewish either but apparently the last time Hanukkah and Thanksgiving overlapped was 1888 and the next is 79,043 years from now - by one estimate widely shared in Jewish circles. Who knew??

I hope nobody is working today and if you are one of those Black Thursday or Friday shopping warriors, be safe and win big.

Enjoy your day ladies,

Karen

Thanks for asking about me Karen. Work is crazy and some how I clicked the unsubscribe button and kept forgetting to check in.

Just finished 62 minutes working out. Now time to eat and make stuffing for dinner at mom's. Nope we don't stuff the turkey, never have. But at least I get my favorite stuffing this year. My mom doesn't do it anymore and sometimes we get Stovetop! NOT ACCEPTABLE.

We are headed out about 10:30 to go there and will be gone most of the day. Looking forward to my long weekend. Switching to SAP at work over the weekend so my days will be crazy starting Monday.

Have a wonderful day!

I think that just about covers every holiday and tradition, religious or otherwise, ya think?

Dee, I'm glad to hear about your moms improved cholesterol. We both know how hard health changes can be to make, so good for her. My dad had adult onset diabetes, he took a lot of meds (in conjunction with heart disease and lung meds too). I will cheer your mom on and hope she can reduce or eliminate some of her meds.

So how do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Do you celebrate Hanukkah too? I was raised Lutheran. Tomorrow I will go to my Uncles house for dinner. The provide the turkey and gravy and the rest of us contribute sides and dessert. Mine is mashed and sweet potatoes. Unfortunately mom isn't well enough to travel. I feel bad leaving her at home but she insists that I go. So I will bring her treats home to enjoy.

Fortunately we missed the most of the winter storms traveling across the US, so it's just cold.

I hope you have a great holiday and your football teams win!

Karen

Happy Hump Day/Happy Pre-Thanksgiving/Happy Hanukkah Sole Sparkers!

My moms cholesterol is back in normal range today, thanks to the diet changes she's stuck to. Now to get her moving little by little to get her off her diabetes meds!! She was shocked about her cholesterol since it's only been 3 months, so maybe it'll give her hope to beat diabetes.

Happy pre-Hump day Sole Sparkers!

Karen- She's been posting on the Challenge forum, but yes, she's just been really busy.
Hope things look up for your mom. I tell my mom and the boyfriend the same thing, about feeling cold from inactivity. I tell the boyfriend to get up and do 50 jumping jacks emoticon

Dee,

Have you heard from Paula? I noticed it's been about 2 weeks since she's been on this forum. Is she alright or just busy?

Hi Dee,

I guess I won't take offense if I invite you to Crete to experience 20's and our first dusting of snow ( really just enough to be able to say we got some) and you say no? I always tell my mom she's cold because she doesn't move enough, but I don't think that's the case here. I'll wish you warm energy and thoughts.

I went and ordered mom a transport chair today since she's unable to get around well right now. She is going for prolotherapy shots for pain, but not till I get her chair. Wish her luck, it's been a tough year so far for her.

Hi Dee,

According to yahoo weather, LA is 60 degrees F. I don't mind the rain either. Right now that feels like a heat wave to this Miss Jackie Frost. My bags are packed and ready to go!

I'm sorry you had to move all those heavy crates, but just think - without all that exercise and weight training you wouldn't have been able to throw those crates around like they were nothing. What a superwoman you are!

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I went grocery shopping today and froze my tushie off in windy 20 degrees. I then stayed home the rest of the day. Woosie, I know, I'm working back into it. emoticon

I hope you have a great Sunday.

Sparktacular Saturday Sole Sparkers!
(Note: I'm saying this after a long nap!)

Moving 100lbs crates around for a good 2.5 hours early on a Saturday is NO fun! Just in case someone invites you to do it one day, take it from me and say no emoticon

Karen- It's definitely warmer than 20s, but still very cold to this California girl! Friday I text my sis that I hadn't felt my toes all day!

So far it's scheduled to be raining Thurs-Sat of next week, looks like I may be running our Virtual Turkey Trot at the gym. Unless I cowgirl up and run in the rain, to be continued...

Yes Dee, Bosses do that. It's like planning for your vacation. You know you have more work before and after to make up for what you didn't do during your vacation. emoticon

Sorry you have to work, I hope it goes fast and smooth.

Trish, sounds like you're doing better from your blog posts. I'm glad.

It's supposed to be in the 20's this weekend and cold thru Thanksgiving - Dee I want to hang out in CA with you!! Gotta be warmer than 20, right?????

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

TGIF Sole Sparkers!

Unfortunately, I let the baby (in blog) whoo hoo too soon! I'm working with the boyfriend tomorrow, for my part-time gig. All in hopes of getting next Friday off, sigh
Is it me or do bosses try to jam pack short weeks with tons of work?

Happy Thursday Ladies,

I hope you're all having a great day today. Dee it's been raining last night and today here. Possible snow flurries Friday or Saturday. Not ready emoticon

Today I went with my friend Pam to a local grocery store that has 12 packs of pop on sale limit of 4 / customer. She buys a lot so if I go we can get 8 at a time. What a zoo. even the 20 items or less lines (2) and the self check lines were miles long.

Trish, your flavor choice for soup sounds great, I wish I was there or at least had smell-o-vision. I heard that this winter the uppermost areas of the U.S. were supposed to have colder than normal temps so I hope you all stay warm and dry this Winter.

Paula, I hope you're having a great day, and you making great progress on selling your house.

I've been backsliding bad on all the healthy habits I worked so hard on, and gained back almost all of the 40 lbs I was so happy about. The devil came back and I got lazy and let him start living rent free again. BAD GIRL!! I'm really disappointed in myself. I'm not really sure why I let it happen except to acknowlege that I once again treated this like a temp project instead of a lifestyle change. I'm one the those personalities that is all excited at the beginning of a project and after the honeymoon is over, I'm on to new things. Not a good plan for weight loss and maintenance............ emoticon

Well, I still not perfect, but I've started back with the 10 min exercise goal / day and I love smoothies so I'm getting lots of fruit and even some veggies in this way.

Everyone has their drug of choice (or bad habit), mine is bad food choices and not enough exercise.

I know I'm not different here, but the worse the backslide, the less I wanted anyone to know. You are all doing so well and picking yourself up on a bad day, I didn't want to infect you all too!

So that's my confession for today and I'm leaving this on a silly note. I don't know if you are familiar with Andy Andrews. He writes great lessons in engaging story form. (My favorite). The youtube link below is his 3 versions of Amazing Grace to different tunes and why his pastor father spanked him for it. Very funny! emoticon

Have a great evening ladies,

Karen

Dee - went back and read that blog. Very true! Thanks for sharing that.

It is so cold here. I doubt I'll be taking my walking breaks today. Right now it is exactly zero! Everything is covered in white. Not going to let it get me down though! I am glad the storm is over and pray the roads improve today. It was a long, slow drive home from work last night on sheets of ice at times.

My foot still isn't 100% better but it is getting there. I'm babying it and doing the stretches and icing so I'm hopeful I can run on it again this weekend.

Thinking about making a bacon/potato soup tonight. Perfect for this weather.

Have a wonderful pre-Friday day Soul Sparkers.

Which blog was dedictated to us Dee? I"m not keeping up well as usual.

17 degrees here and spitting snow. Funny thing is I'm finally starting to come out of my fog of depression. Usually weather like this doesn't help!

Karen - there is some beautiful folige in Montana that is for sure! I usually take fall photos of the whole family but that didn't happen this year. Made me sad of course.

I noticed yesterday that we still have some green leaves on a lilac bush. I asked the leaves yesterday what their problem was...after all it is practially winter here now.

I need to go read Dee's blog.

Happy Saturday Sparklers,

Dee, that's great you don't have to work tomorrow! I hope all of you are having a great weekend so far. I just spent Thursday and Friday dog sitting 2 adorable golden retrievers for some out of town friends. Apache and Cochise are very friendly hosts - especially when treats are envolved! (Alright, yes I'm the cool aunt who spoils the kids with too many treats and sends them home for mom to undue the damage!) emoticon

Today, it's been rainy and cooler and still I have 1 oak tree that refuses to drop all the leaves so I can clean up the yard and be done. emoticon

I was on pinterest earlier and I saw the most beautiful picture of foliage from somewhere in Montana, according to according to the caption. Lots of yellows and reds. Our burst of colors is on the down turn but there are still pockets of color. There is a tree or bush that's popular around my area that's bright and dark red, well into the end of the year.. Awesome!

Dee, I saw your blog about the reasons not to run a marathon. I didn't see the article itself, but from you description I thought it was an odd article from SP, but I guess those are things to think about.

I hope Sunday is a good day for everyone,

Karen
