We are possibly looking at Cabo San Lucas but also researching Jamaica and Bahamas as others. Anyone been to Cabo or have problems there?

emoticon fellow brides to be; I am going to have my Blue Angels wedding right here in Florida in Pensacola-WHEN IT HAPPENS!!! I have other choices but I have never been to Pensacola before so this is why I chose the town and it gives me a chance to see it for the first time, but I have other choices if that doesn't work out and my advice to other brides2be is to make sure you have other choices in case your top choice is not available for the weekend you want to use it the hotels will do weddings as well. emoticon

Sorry to talk so much--but I had another thought for those planning. We looked alot of places, from Florida, Hawaii, to most of the carribean. We travel quite a bit and were pretty comfortable with just about anywhere, but in the end we decided to go to an English speaking country (Jamaica) because of family that were traveling with us. And although choosing Jamaica resulted in many family members getting a passport for the first time, it is a much cheaper country than the US and all-inclusive resorts are awesome.

I was so thrilled with our Mexico destination wedding location (Excellence Resort Playa Mujeres) but became seriously freaked out by all of the scary things happening down there so, we're now looking at Florida locations. I'm so happy I saw this thread-I'd love to see where other brides are going!

We haven't picked a destination as yet but we're working on it.

Oh Great Spirit who dwells in the sky, lead us to the path of peace and understanding. Our lives are so short here, walking upon Mother Earth's surface. Let our eyes be opened to all the blessings you have given us. Please hear our prayers, oh Great Spirit.

We haven't set an exact date yet...originally, we were going to get married on Sept 10 but we decided to postpone it a bit longer but we have definitely decided on a beach wedding in Pensacola, FL which is about an 8 hour drive from where we live. I don't know if that's considered a proper "destination" wedding, but it is as far as we are concerned!

Laurantexas--You will probably want to check out what is in their free package. It may or may not include photography, help with your documents, flowers, or anything else but the minister. Some also charge per guest even for resort guests, beyond the amount specified. For my wedding, for example, only 6 guests were included, so I had to pay an extra $5 for each of the 24 other guests. Some resorts don't offer a photographer for weddings an option and make it a pain to get one--definitely look into that if you want professional pictures. Sandals is an all inclusive resort chain, so it will include food and beverages, but will be very limited on what 'excursions' are included. Some will do a glass bottom boat tour for free, and some will offer free water sports, possibly with scuba or snorkling. But if you want a catamaran or ziplining, expect to pay for it.

We are currently debating a destination wedding with just the two of us there, or having one here with family and friends. It's a second marriage for both of us, and neither of us had a big wedding the first time. I received information for Sandals yesterday, and when you book a 6 night or more stay with them, you receive their Beautiful Beginnings Wedding Package for free. It is for the Bride, Groom and 2 guests. But, you have to book a 6 night stay with them. I got on the website and looked at the cost of doing this, and it would cost us roughly 6k for the cost of the rooms and the flights. I don't know if the excursions that you can do at the resorts are free or not, I don't know if any food or beverage is involved, but I do know that I am budgeting 10k for our wedding, whether we do it here or destination, so if it doesn't include some food and beverage then we will just be having it here. But, the wedding packages are gorgeous and cover ever detail, including the cake (which looks yummy in the pics, LOL!).

I have not booked one, but I know places like the Sandals resorts offer free wedding if you book your honeymoon with them.

I have to agree with that - it's just going to be impossible to bring anything much other than the dress, so DIY is pretty much out. We're doing everything through eyes and ears of others, so it's not great if you really really care that your floral arrangements exactly match the napkin rings. But if you're not worried about every little detail, then it could be really nice.

I got married at Sunset Beach Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, Jamaica last May (almost 1 yr, yay!). We then had a reception back in our home town for our family and friends. A destination wedding is a very easy, laid back way to go, as long as you can be laid back about it. You don't have as much control over what is happening. I picked out the flowers and cake the day before the wedding and met the minister when I walked down the isle. However, it was on the beach at sunset with the ocean 5 ft away, with 30 of our closest family and friends. It was exactly what I wanted--but I'm pretty laid back.

We're getting married in Ireland, because my fiance is from there and his family all lives there, but we're in New York.

So....kinda. His local family has been really invaluable - we're getting ready to sign a contract on a location, but they wouldn't let us do it until someone physically showed up. Thank goodness for siblings.
