Has anyone tried coconut milk POWDER in their Nutriblast? I've used coconut milk (either canned or in a carton). I usually use it for cooking, but haven't found much info for using it in a smoothie.

I make a drink every morning, sometimes I have one for dinner if I had a big lunch or feel like a pick me up.
I use half a big cup of Kale or spinach, maybe some spinach and arugula, I'm trying to learn to like arugula! I use a combination of any of these: frozen strawberries, blueberries, melons, cherries, raspberries, mango, pineapple and always, one banana.
I add a scoop of Isopure unflavored whey protein powder isolate and fill up the rest with spring water. I was using the unflavored almond milk but the banana gives it the texture so I stopped using it. I'm 2 months into morning smoothies and two weeks using the NB. I'm going to branch out to trying some of the recipes in the book but I hate wasting food when I don't like something so I have not started yet LOL

Dropping by the team page today as I haven't been in for a long while. I'm still doing an average of 3-4 Nutriblasts per week, after I initially did a 3 day feast with my NB. LOVE the NB and trying new things. I do tend to get "stuck in a rut" with my favorites: banana, spinach, strawberry, orange or pineapple, and flax with water or almond milk. Lately, I've also added carrot. YUM!

Hope you are all well. I've just heard from the team leader, PinkSoldier, about helping in her absence. I'm happy to step in and help. I'll try to check in at least a couple times per week, if not more.

Blessings!

Hi all, I'm new to the team - been considering joining for a while. I've been a NB junkie now for around 4 months. I've had one every morning since I got it. I was using a blender for around 6 months before, but after it died, I switched over and I LOVE it!

I prepare the fruit and greens in the NB mug the night before - I'm always rushed in the morning.
I don't have exact measurements for most of the ingredients as I just eyeball it and whatever fits . . . so be it. I am diabetic so I need to use caution making sure I get protein with the drink.

Here is my basic recipe with some slight variations that seems to work for me - not everything is in every drink - whatever is in season or I have on hand:
Strawberries (around 1 cup)
Blueberries (around 1/4-1/2 cup)
Pineapple (3 chunks if I have it)
Blackberries (if in season)
Baby Kale or Spinach - whichever I've got on hand - I try to switch it up (small handful)

In the morning I add:
1 heaping tblspoon of ground flax seed (be careful- you need to start with a small amount and work your way up. Also, Flax seeds do not need to be refrigerated until they are ground and then they don't last long- I grind up a small batch for the week and put in the fridge.)
1 heaping tblspoon of Plain Greek yogurt - for animal lovers - I let my cat lick the spoon - good for his digestion ;) good for dogs too.

And the final 2 ingredients BUT I THINK VERY IMPORTANT:
Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk instead of water ( I think it gives a better consistency and flavor rather than water - 8 ozs is 30 calories)
and:
Plant Protein - this usually contains Pea Protein, Protein from Chia Seeds, Brown Rice and hemp (2 scoops are 21 grams of protein - too much for me and 150 calories. so I take a bit over 1 scoop which works fine- 12 grams protein and maybe 80 calories and it stretches the product further). Depending on which Protein you use will effect the taste of the drink.
3 ice cubes

So there you have it - My wonderful morning smoothie - around 250-300 calories, best I can figure, depending on how much I've crammed in. It's the best I've come up with so far.
Enjoy :) I hope this wasn't too long a post and that someone finds it useful.

I checked it out, and declined I don't like giving information out freely. Unfortunately it's not free either. It is for 6 months, but just another way for people to spend money, a lot of us out of work and some retired don't have those luxury's either so why do it, when we have Sparkpeople! We just need to get this team motivated!!!

There is also a small forum on nutribullet's site @ http://www.nutriliving.com/. I have a profile on there, but there really isn't much to it. I'm trying to get some people from there to come over here. It has a lot of good info though, with different tabs to choose from and stuff.

It could be more active and we could probably have a picture too! lol Pink Soldier the team leader sent out an Email asking if any of us would be interested in being a leader. I responded but haven't heard a thing back and she seems to be way to busy for it. There is a lot of us using the Nutri bullet more and more, so it needs to liven up!!

emoticon I wish this team was more active. Hopefully we'll get more members and really start sharing NutriBullet info and success. I'm doing great. Just on my pre-trial week, but already feel so good, I have no fear about starting my true first week on Monday.

The only thing I haven't liked in my juice was spring greens. Most of the time I use spinach & kale as my base, a couple of different fruits, and always put in a few chunks of fresh pineapple to sweeten it & top it off with a nut or seed booster. I use 1/2 water & 1/2 organic juice to the max line, as water alone makes it to bland.

I'm so excited....so very excited. I have absolutely no desire to cheat, or have any cravings to cheat.

Next week I'm still going to continue to eat 1 md boiled egg with my breakfast juice, and a small portion of meat/fish with my evening juice. If weightloss doesn't work well with that plan, then I will go full 'nutriblast fast'.

Ok I ran out of fruit to put in my Nutri Blasts, need to get into town. I like bananas in mine, and berrys. I can tell when I miss one of my Blasts because of my energy level. They are usually my building blocks to better health. Need to gauge better with the use of my fruits.
Still have lots of organic baby spinach, but need all the other things. Getting low on flaxseed too.

I thought the kale went well in a gazpacho with one half tomato and bell pepper, lemon, olive oil, garlic. I also tried it with currents, apples but needed proportionally more fruit for a mellow taste.

My first encounter with Kale didn't go over too well either. But I am going to try to find a way to incorporate in future blasts, it is one of the best greens for our health. My 2 fruit ingredients are a berry and a banana. Flax seeds or almonds. Then baby spinach and 1 tsp cinnamon.
That's what I pretty much have every day. I will change it up and try more different ingredients. After blending I add more water to reduce the texture of pulp. But most of the time it's pretty thin and juicy.

Hello, I am the type of person who will find one thing that I like to eat and stick with it until I have a taste for something else, then change it up. Right now I am extracting spinach leaves, cilantro, cucumber, apple, pear, carrot, and a touch of lemon juice. It is delicious!

I tried kale when I first got the NutriBullet but I ended up tossing it - turns out I don't like kale. But. . . I love spinach in anything. I have even used spinach with bananas and strawberries and it tastes fine.

There is no way around the pulp. Have you tried to eat it like a food? I don't know if that will help but when you eat food you expect to have something on your tongue, so it may help.

What exactly are you gagging on? The greens? Or the consistency? If it is either I would hate to say, that there is no way around it, unless someone else found something different, that I haven't tried yet. I gag on toothpaste, there is a spot on the back of your tongue, that does the gag thing, so I try to keep everything on the side, not easy to do either.

Hello, new user here! I have been juicing for over a year. I recently bought a nutribullet. I have tried several recipes, but I cannot get past my gag reflex from the pulp. Does anyone have a recipe or a bit of advice to help with this. Are there any recipes (i have tried just adding more water) that reduce the pulp drastically? I like the idea of getting all the nutrients and I LOVE the easy cleanup. However, I can do nothing about my gag reflex, so if I can't figure something out, I will have to return it emoticon

I just watched "Food Matters" and the Dr. who promotes the Nutri Bullet quoted that if a person drinks a liter or 2 of water, before they drink or eat anything at the start of the day. It starts a natural process of cleanse and elimination. OMG how right he was. This is now on my list of dailys! I feel so bright and alert today, and energy is so increased due to the Nutri Blasts and the water first thing.

How do you get past the fact that your drink color is an Army green? emoticon

It's weird...when it started blending I saw a beautiful bright raspberry color and then it turned Army green. Yuk! The ingredients were 50% spinach, 1 small banana, 1/2 c. frozen raspberries and my usual plant-based protein powder. I've used my protein powder many times before and never saw this color.

Ugly, but delicious!!!

The problem I found was buying a bunch of kale, not that big, but I don't
want kale every day. I assume that this can be frozen and used like other
frozen foods. The same holds true by the different bunches of lettuce. In
one week, they will have to be dumped if not eaten. I want to try a different
smoothie each day. I plan to cook the remaining kale and eat it with
a common meal.

Use ur nutrients guide here on Spark, and see what ur drink is supplying u with, as far as what is in it. My one Nutriblast has 300 + calories and a huge amount of potassium which we don't seem to get enough of. But 3 of these drinks a day would blow potassium out of the water. I only drink the one, the rest of my day is more normal as far as my choices. I have been trying to cut back on any dairy. Is there something in the drink that u normally don't get? That could be affecting u? I love my Nutriblast, first one was awful, now I am used to them. If u still eat or continue to eat refined foods and fatty foods, it can affect u as well, and ur Nutriblast can become just a green drink and not a healing drink.

Thanks for the information...I will start grinding my flax seeds....but I am still unsure if I am drinking to much...is it ok to drink the entire large mixture in the mornings? I don't understand why when I made my first smoothie I felt wonderful but each one after has caused problems.Has anyone else had any of these problems??? I am not one to eat veggies....canned veggies are what I usely eat.I will continue with the smoothies....

Just remember with flax seeds, they will do you absolutely no nutritional good if you don't grind them first. Chia seeds on the other hand don't need to be ground and you will reap the benefits of the Omega's. Not only that they are higher in omega's than flax seeds. I use them ALL the time. They thicken the smoothies quite nicely.

I am going to do some further research on what you wrote. I just found a whole bunch of good things that cinnamon does for the body and being a health coach, I am always interested in information people find to the contrary.

It does pay to do your research... and always good to err on the side of caution. Thanks for posting that info...

I am still having trouble with my shakes....do most of you drink the large drink in the morning or do you have a small cup....do you grind your chia seeds and flax or just put in drink and grind...I put spinch, fruit, flax and chia seeds and then walnuts...first time I had the shake I felt great...lately not so much.Any suggestions???

Today I included a 1" nub of raw ginger in my drink and that made it really nice. I think I'll add that every day. Ginger's really good for you too.

Drink of choice that whole week was the one for diabetes, I only drank 1 a day with the cinnamon. I did add it to one of my other type of drinks. I will try the lemon, since I am a lemon lover, or love lemon, however it sounds nicer! lol I used regular cinnamon. Later on down the road, I will try the different types, right now I am restricted to what I have on hand
I would rather put money into the flax, and chia seeds.

MJ, careful to not overdose on cinnamon. I found this with a google search: In terms of reducing glycemic response with cinnamon, I found the following, from largest to smallest effect, effective:

"1. Get freshly ground cinnamon or grind it yourself. If you, like me, have a bachelor-special spice rack that's three years old, toss it and get new raw materials. The polyphenols and active ingredients degrade over time and with air exposure.

2. Learn how to spot species. Unfortunately, U.S. packagers are not legally required to specify the type of cinnamon species on the label. Not sure which raw "cinnamon" sticks are Cassia (cinnamomum cassia or aromaticum)? They will roll up from both sides, like a scroll. Ceylon (cinnamomum verum or zeylanicum, also referred to as "true cinnamon") will roll up from one side, as if you had rolled up a bathroom towel. Distinguishing powder is harder, as age plays a part, but Cassia tends to be a darker reddish-brown and Ceylon a lighter tan color.

3. Don't use too much. It's easy to get overambitious with cinnamon, but there are active substances that can hurt you if consumed in excess. Coumarin, as just one example, is a potent blood-thinner and some cinnamon in Europe has a warning label for this reason. Use no more than four grams per day (.84 teas.). I use a few dashes in coffee and limit myself to two to three cups of coffee throughout the day."

Blessings & Hugs,

I've been enjoying a peeled half of a lemon in my drinks. Really amps up flavor. I think 1/2 lemon may be too much....I will try 1/4 lemon next. Also I think I heard somewhere that lemon is good for detoxing the liver. I also find lemon great if you ever experience nausea, which I have sometimes (rarely), but one morning I had it and it was the morning I first tried lemon in the blast and it really helped the nausea.

Having lost 13 lbs since I saw my Dr. last, I only weigh in his office, I don't use a scale at home.
I think my Nutriblasts have been helping me lose weight. I only have the one a day and it's at least a quart. And I always add the 1 tsp of cinnamon. The good thing was it was lost slowly, it was 4 mos. in between visits, and I wasn't trying to lose weight. I also feel better, and want to do more physical activity. I am already on the bandwagon on how good it is to have a Nutribullet. I will check in to the Swanson company too. We do have the truck here in town. I thought they were on the expensive side though. My friends are going out of town, and will check at Trader Joes on the Flaxseed. Oh yeah, and my Blood pressure reading was close to normal, Dr. is already decreasing my beta blockers, and is going to get me off those, if my readings stay pretty close to the normal. emoticon

MJ, I keep a bag of fritos around, they give me a quick taste sensation like I just had something good. One bag can last me nearly a month if DH doesn't get into them.
I use Amazon for my flaxseeds n chia seeds n hemp seeds n oil. Much cheaper than the health food stores.
I will have to check out Swanson online.

I put 2 tbsp flax seed into each of my Blasts, I am now a regular girl!! The bell peppers did make me burp for a couple hours. Not sure if I want to use them on a regular basis. But I know they are really healthy to eat.

It's been a bit over a month at blasting, I am feeling so much better. I think I was severely malnourished of nutrients from being so wheat and gluten sensitive and eating a fair amount of processed foods, wheat and white flour products. Sometimes it is hard to say no to foods. The other night I had two wheat tortillas, and I paid dearly for two days afterward. Won't be likely to do that again.

Since I don't have a health food store or whole foods in my town, I have to depend on Amazon.com to get most of my seeds. So this payday I am going to stock up on
flax seeds. I hear these are a great additive. Can't wait to add them to my Nutri Blasts.
I also hear that maca powder is good too.

emoticon team. I need to re-stock fruits and veggies, been nutri-blasting about 6 months now. I don't always add nuts and it is still very good. I have to say it really helps us women who are entering menopause, keep up the good work everyone!!! emoticon emoticon

Some things just don't do it for me, because of my system, and one of them are peppers of any kind, I don't know what it is, enzymes or what, but they attack me and I have a bad stomach for a couple of hours. What is weird as a kid, my Mom made stuffed green peppers and they never bothered me. The greens or crusiferous types are what we need, we just add the other stuff for flavor and different combos. I add the cinnamon because of Dr. Oz, he says it helps with weight loss, and it's good for your system. I have only been doing this for a little over a week, I studied it first to see what would be best for me. I went to the Dr. today and my BP is down, and I showed a loss of 13 lbs since I last saw him which was in September, I don't weigh at home, so this was great news. He was thrilled, I told him about the Nutribullet, he has never heard of it. He is really good about my choices, he offers medication if needed, but he knows I don't care to take them, so he is good with it.
I don't actually try to diet, I just drink one or two of these a day, and the rest of my day is normal eating, but I don't eat junk except maybe fritos, they are Vegan and 2 ingredients corn and corn oil. So I am excited about the NB and I will continue to experiment with different ingredients, but the greens will always be the main.

MJ, I have been living on these drinks, and doing n feeling very well!

Today I added half a red bell pepper, it was still good, but the pepper has a strong flavor and stood out. Next time I will use a fourth a pepper. Just a FYI

I have been buying the veggies that are the most colorful. I am starting to get past using just kale or spinach. Swiss Chard is very good too.

I just made the best Nutriblast to date. 2 cups of baby spinach (organic) 1 cored apple, 1 tsp of cinnamon and 12 almonds and water. Was the yummiest yet! My favorite thing about the Nutribullet is the easy to use, and easy to clean. I believe I can live on just these drinks!

Some fruits and some vegetables are freezable. Whenever I can I do, the only unfortunates are the leafy lettuce types, and they go bad way too quickly. I buy those for 3 to 4 days worth. I keep bananas in the fridge, and they keep way longer than they do sitting out in a bowl. Actually I keep most everything in the fridge except almonds and seeds. When I finish preparing my veges and fruits, I put them in zip lock bags. The key is to figure out how much you will use in 5 to 7 days, then return to the store for the ones that you need to replenish. I also look for bargains, buy more and freeze those particulars if they can be. Mainly berries, these can be really expensive when not on sale, and they can be frozen.

Hello SparkPeople! I have been doing research on the Nutribullet and finally "bit the bullet" (sorry!) and bought one. I am super excited to begin on my journey! I bought a bunch of spinach, fruits, almonds and flax seed. My question is: Can't I just wash up the fruit, cut it up and pop it in the freezer? Thinking I can make sure that the fruit stays "fresh" that way. Has anyone done this?

My husband and I got our NB last weekend. We have been using it for a week now with a smoothie in the morning. Feeling pretty good at this point. We have just been using the recipes in the book so far. Going today in search of the chia seeds and macca. Want to try to balance my hormones. In the menopausal stage and hormones are up and down like a yoyo. Has anybody used the hormone recipe?

I put my fruits and vegetables in a vinegar and water solution, and let them set for at least 20 minutes. I have yet to have any symptoms like your describing. If you have the Nutribullet are you following any of their guidelines for ingredients? I have at least 2 cups of greens and 2 cups of fruit, and the nuts or seeds then water, it sounds like your not getting enough nutrients therefore it falls short of feeding your system what it needs, hence the headaches and such.

Not sure about what the indigestion and headache could be caused by. What did you put in it? Did you wash the greens and fruit?? I use a fruit veggie spray wash. I can tell by the taste if the pesticides aren't washed off. It will give me nausea and make me feel funny. So I wash them as best I can.
Also, did you calculate the calories for the whole day? Smoothy's can be very low cal, or very high cal. If you had a very low cal day, it could give you a headache.

MJ, I also order from Amazon. The store prices are too high. With Amazon, you have to order 4 24 oz packs of flaxseed. But at two tbsp a day, one Bobs Red Mill bag lasts about a month. Only things I go to store for is the fresh veggies or frozen fruits, mango and blueberry are the best! Fresh berries only last a day or two. Frozen are nearly just as good. Chia seeds are very good for you too, but they are also expensive. Everything else I order through Amazon. So much cheaper than the stores.
Happy Blasting!

Thank u for that info. I do take flax seed oil right now. When I go to Trader Joes again I will get some flax seed. Or I will order it from Amazon. My town is very small, and we have no health food store, closest one is 80 miles away.

Ok had first nutriblast the other day. Kale, broccoli, blueberries, banana, almonds, cinnamon and water. Ist initial response, yuk. But I drank it, and I had 2 since, so guess it's a matter of getting used to the green, because now I want them. Today I made my own, with baby spinach greens banana, raspberries and almonds and cinnamon. Not bad at all. I think I am going to thoroughly enjoy this journey to wellness!

My plan as of now is to start the month with Juicing for 10 days for detox and reboot. And to incorporate the Nutriblasts for one meal a day. And the rest of the day with clean eating. I will gradually go with a 30 day fast, and then 60 and lastly the 90 day. My plans is to become a complete raw food groupie! I have not felt good over the past year. When my back went out with a sciatic nerve pinch, I was never so devastated in my life. All due to Uncle Arthur making himself at home. Well he's gotta go!! And I know that I need to heal with good healthy food choices, not drugs. I hated being on high powered pain killers (Norco) to deal with the pain. Refused to continue them after the initial prescription. So I am going to see what this will do for me. I am sure I will change it up, as I see where I need to.

I've had a Blast everyday since I got it. I also shopped and got many many nuts seeds and I stay stocked up on veggies and fruits, although I overshopped and a bit of the veggies will go bad before I can use them up. Oh well, need to plan better. The NB is WAY cheaper andmore healthier than a regular juicer that makes you throw away all that wonderful fiber and plant cellulose, which lowers cholesterol among other good things.

I get energy after a Blast. YAY

I read that chia seeds are better for you than flaxseed. I will continue to use both. Grocery shopping tonight or tomorrow, planning on checking out the frozen fruit, since I am preDiabetic, I can use small amounts of fruit. Good to hear that frozen fruit is good. Thanks!

I bought some frozen berries to add to my nutri-blast. They were really good, also got chia seeds at whole foods, they are good in them too.

Hi, I am Phyllis and was VERY happy to find the NB team, my DH was gone for 5 days mid December, and while alone the infomercial came on and I got hooked on the idea and ordered it. Got it on the 20th and have had a green smoothie every day and a couple days twice since. I am hooked. Mine works so good, doesn't leak as was reviewed on Amazon.com. So far I have used, spinach, kale, banana, apple, chia seeds, hemp oil, coconut oil, flaxseeds, walnuts, and whey protein powder vanilla. Not all at once of course. I want to try to make a green smoothie with spinach, kale, tomato, picante sauce and a bit of onion. Kind of like a spicy v8 drink. But healthier than a canned drink.

I do feel a bit better and have a bit more energy, not feeling like exercising yet, but am planning on starting ten minute treadmill walking starting this weekend. I also have a new Jane Fonda dvd exercise video for older folks like me. I haven't tried it yet. I fear the soreness cause I am starting out stiff and sore already and don't want to feel worse.

I have a Breville juicer which I got after watching the documentary, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. I did well on the juice, but I had to spend a lot of time running to the little girls room due to the lack of fiber. DH criticized the juicer's waste of the important fiber, so I never used it again. A year passed.

Now I have the NutriBullet. I haven't done the recipes, I just use the general guidelines on the three types of ingredients, I pick from what I have and put in what sounds good at that moment. So far that works out well. Am going to store tomorrow, the locally grown produce market down the street, and seeing what they have. I have a huge bag of triple washed spinach to use up first.

HAPPY NEW YEAR IS AROUND THE CORNER!!

Phyllis

I stocked up on greens, fruits, nuts for a week of healthy drinks.

I read chia seeds give alot of nutrition, going to try those. I have been using raw almonds and raw cashews, both are really good. got them at Trader Joes.

I got my NutriBlast last week, so I'm still getting used to it. Today I had a Nutriblast made of a small avocado, baby spinach leaves, a little bit of kale, a little lemon juice, 1/2 a banana, a small apple, and a few pieces each of frozen strawberry and peach--microwaved to soften. It tasted like avacado with strawberry and banana--delicious! I'm hoping my NutriBullet will help me to lose weight.

I've noticed it takes a little more time to pulverize the grape skins, but they produce a wonderful flavor. I put together my own recipes, based on the things recomended in the recipe book, I know where to stop adding things by sight as well.

I made a smoothie this a.m. with 2 handfuls of butterhead & red leaf lettuce mix, 2 handfuls of red grapes, 1 pear, 3 carrots. I cut the pear and carrots up. Squashed down everything in the bullet except the carrots. Whirled it up, then put the carrots in making sure that it didn't over flow. Sometimes I find that even when I do use some of the recipes out of the booklet, that I will have to use this method, or kind of eyeball it so that it doesn't overflow. HOWEVER, I will take the time to do that because unlike the juicer it is so much easier to use. Even my 28 yo daughter likes it, and now my hubby is even liking the smoothies. (But he has stage 4, terminal cancer.) Anyway, it loves the smoothies especially since they have the fruit taste to it.

I am hoping not only to have more energy but also to lose some weight doing the smoothies. I know that when one has the nutrition they need, then they are more apt to feel less hungry and not want all the foodstuffs that are not good for a person's body.

I have used organic greens, kale, spinach, berries, bananas, nectarines, plums, carrots, cucumber. Cucumber was a bit harder to drink. I also put raw cashews and plan on getting more nuts/seeds to try.

I am starting a juice fast for 2 weeks, so I guess my answer is "as many as it takes...".

Am trying to branch out to other veggies, found that although beet juice tastes great, in the Nutri-Bullet it pretty much tastes like dirt. I peeled it and washed it but could not get rid of dirt taste.

Also have found that lime and grapefruit give it that nasty "chewing on aspirin" taste. Will try to just add the juice next time. I think it is all the extra parts that are not discarded like with a traditional juicer.

I don't eat tomatoes or peppers due to personal preference. What types of veggies have you enjoyed and what have just not worked?
