I was away for 2 weeks, just long enough to really get off track. Family, friends and celebrations make it difficult to keep making the healthy choices and to maintain normal routines. I'm determined to use the experience to stay on track through the holidays

I MOVED THIS MONTH AND I ENDED UP GOING BACK TO SOME OF MY OLD HABITS. SO IT HAS BEEN HARD TO GET BACK ON TRACK. I BOUGHT A NEW SCALE THAT HAS BMI AND WATER TRACKING ABILITY. I HOPE IT WILL HELP, MY OLD SCALE MAY NOT BE ACCURATE. emoticon emoticon I DID WALK FOR AN HOUR TODAY. emoticon

Thank-you, I am trying. I am trying to be brutally honest about my food intake and I don't count all the minutes all the time on my exercise. That way I have a little wiggle room. I know one thing that really adds up the calories is the oil, butter, salad dressing, it amazes me how many calories I used to consume just in those things.
But I like spark because it helps me track my calories a lot easier than looking up everything, and also my exercise. And its good to have other people in the same boat as I am.
Well have a good evening everyone.

Easter Sunday weight 194.4 lbs. I have been going up and down in weight. Start weight on 12/30/12 was 195.8 but got up to 198.8 on 3/17/13 and 196.6 on 3/24/13.

I am tracking food on the SP nutrition tracker, exercising 3 days per week at the Doctor's office gym with volunteer fitness trainer and using SP exercise videos on 4 days of the week.

I am tired of the depressing life I have been living so getting out of the funk with good eating and exercise. I also see therapist 1 time per week.

I have "The Spark", "SparkPeople Cookbook" and "Spark Solutions"

I set my ticker to my highest weight of 210 lbs because it gets upset and doesn't want to save when I gain weight instead of lose.
on Dec 30, 2012 I joined SparkPeople and weighed 195.8

emoticon Good job on the weight loss. I also have a really hard time stopping at one, if they are fresh its really hard. So great job stopping at one.
I lost some weight this week also, I have been in a slump on exercise this last couple of days. My calories have been ok, I just need to kick it up a notch and get moving, it has been colder outside so I haven't wanted to go ride my bike or do yard work. I think I will invest in a stationary bike yet again! I have bought and sold or given away so darn much exercise equipment, that's why I refuse to join a gym, it is a waste of money for me because I go for a month or two and then not at all. Oh well one step at a time. One day at a time. BUT I WANT IT ALL NOW emoticon
Have a good day

Really long day at work today - very tired (didn't have a good night sleep) tried to stick to my healthy eating, but caved even after giving it 15 mins - worked the first time, but the temptation got the best of me....I can never resist a chocolate chip cookie! Even did a workout when I got home from work after dragging at work - got my second wind. Good news I finally broke that 12 lb mark emoticon weigh in this morning and lost 1.3 lbs!

krys... I did a little exercise and I was tired at bedtime bu sore so that kept me up some, I am tired again tonight, maybe I just need more sleep. I get 7-8 hours but maybe not getting restful sleep, I will have to ask the Dr. about it if it keeps up.
Slapoutkid...I hope you get it figured out with your husband, maybe if you try some healthy recipes that are really tasty he will come around.
Well have a good evening

SLAPOUTKID - I agree that you are committing to a lifestyle change not a diet. You might try the meal planner and work around foods he will eat. I sent a link in the email this morning.

MOTELMOM - you did well with that cardio! Don't exercise too late in the evening; it might keep you awake longer than you want!

Slap.. don't say you are on a diet, say you are changing your eating for life. I had to laugh when you said you were going in for your mammogram, there is an add running around here called squeezing for a reason, its for mammograms. They are going to throw a party and everything. It would have to be one heck of a party for me to go unless of course it was time for my mammogram.

No I never did figure it out Ray I think its just part of old age, you have to catch those thoughts fast, they like to run away.
Well I got up early this morning and did 10 min. of cardio, but now at 6:30 I am ready for bed, maybe I will do some more exercise to wake me up
Well off to find something to do, take care. emoticon

Hello Everyone!
I have been off and on Spark People for a few years, never seriously though. I hope to visit everyday. I find lots of good ideas and articles here. My problem with eating healthy is my hubby. He just about refuses to eat anything he thinks is "diet food". So when I say anything about losing weight he becomes very suspicious and won't eat anything he thinks falls under diet food even if he always ate it before. Anyway I am going to renew my efforts to eat healthier and exercise. Thanks for all the good tips! Gotta go now...time for my yearly mammogram.

Its always nice to have company, but sometimes its also nice when they go home lol.

Beautiful day here today, got a small bike ride in, and some yard work, my calories for lunch were high, I ate 3 tyson chicken bites thinking it wouldn't be to bad but they are high in calories, I should have looked before eating them. So I will be on the high end of my calorie scale today.
Once I recover from the yard work i will try to get more exercise in.
I know there is something else I was going to do but for the life of me i can't think of what is is.
Well have a wonderful rest of the day

Great job losing 2.8 lbs. emoticon i gained some of the weight you lost, you can have it back. emoticon
My biggest problem is evening eating when I sit down to watch tv and unwind for the night. I actually have been eating fairly light at breakfast just so I can have extra calories at night. I am going to work on not doing this at least 2 nights this week. So that is my goal no eating while watching tv 2 nights this week.
And I have lied to myself about how much exercise I am getting so I am going to work on being more accountable about my exercise.
I enjoy veggies and fruit more now that I am trying to eat them. Junk food has way to many calories for what I am allowed, so I have to be very selective about what and how much I eat of that.
Well have a good afternoon.

I lost 2.8 lbs this week. I exercised Monday 1 hour and Thursday 30 minutes at the doctors office fitness room. I was going to go on Tuesday but they closed because of the snow storm. I also caught a cold so Thursday was sick but still went and did 30 minutes. I was still sick on Friday so did not work. Did work yesterday 3p-11p. I stood up for part of my shift. Because I was sick I was not able to eat like I normally do so that helped.
This week I am going to try to only eat when my stomach says I am hungry and only eat a small amount at a time. I am going to stop obsessing over what I eat and how many calories. Nothing will be off limits. I just have to be sure I am truly hungry before I eat anything and then measure the amount. I hope this will help me get over the cravings and will want to eat more healthy. The more I tried to watch the calories and what I was eating the more I ate. I am not a big fan of veggies and fruit but I can eat them. If I stop obsessing about substituting veggies for junk and just eat what I want when I am truly hungry maybe I will naturally eat more veggies. I will be buying more veggies tomorrow. I am also going to try to buy less junk to have around. My biggest problem is that junk food is grab and go but veggies require preparing unless all I eat is carrots and celery No more food ( except fruit- so kids don't eat it) in the bedroom. If I want to eat anything I will have to go downstairs to get it. I just have to make sure anything I buy to eat is veggies because the kids will not eat those. They eat fruit and meat. The only veggies they eat is corn and white potatoes.

yes its been in the high 40's and no wind some days, In this state high 40's is almost summer, lol, today it was a bit windy and the wind was cold so I did some walking and some yard work for exercise instead of a bike ride.
i just got done with meds for a sinus infection so I know how you feel, I have a steriod nasal spray, i hope that doesn't make me gain weight, I know I was starving the whole time I was on meds, I was trying to not go over my alloted calories but it was hard, the hardest since I started, this week has been a bit better.

I broke down and went and got antibiotics, my crud was just moving back and forth between my sinuses and chest. I already feel better after only a couple of days, I hate being sick.
But now that I am feeling better I am alot more hungry, will have to watch myself close now.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, the sun is shinning and for this time of year it is beautiful today.

ye I got sick on Friday, and I have been taking everything under the sun to try to shorten the cold, but still feel lousy. My calorie control has been better this week, my exercise, so, so. My husband bought me a podometer for my b-day, and I swear it must be wrong it says I walked 16000 steps yesterday. i had a busy morning but that is kind of crazy.

Hope everyone is mending and getting over all the crud going around.

Same thing here RUNKIMRUN. The flu has hit our house. I'm trying to eat Progresso soup and drink plenty of water. But, I have no energy for anything else. Hope you feel better soon! emoticon

I was doing well with my weight loss... then I got sick... and it all went downhill. When I am not feeling well, the last thing I want to do is make and eat salad... i reach for other things that are less healthy but easier to make (ex: things that I can pop into the oven, leave it and then it's done).

Ugh... I fear that my 6 pounds progress might be shattered... hopefully not!

I agree that slow weight loss is better, give yourself time to get used to the changes and make it a lifetime change. I have lost lots of weight lots of times, but as soon as I reached my "goal" I thought good now I can go back to eating normally, and I would gain all the weight and then some back, because I made it to resriticive to maintain. I would like to know how many of the people on those shows actually keep the weight off long term, I would bet the number is very low. While On the show they probably have nutritionist, trainers, and like someone said, for a little while this is what you do for your "job" but once back in real life you don't have all those things.
Give yourself credit for what you have accomplished, be kind to yourself. that is my goal. emoticon
Tomorrow is weigh in day for me, I am always nervous before that, but I am trying to be calm and be nice to myself and not expect anymore than my plan calls for. But as many of us know it is hard.
Have a great day everyone.

Well, I started walking in hopes of kicking in the weight loss, but still just going slow and steady. Geez, All I can say is I better be down in weight AND maintaining next year at this time with as slow as this is going. It even says I am behind in my weight loss on my plan. But I did actually give myself plenty of time.

Tomorrow is never promised. Make every day count!

Josie - a weight loss of 1-2 lbs a week is almost a guarantee that it will stay off! Major losses can occur when you first start out or like on the show devote your whole day to it, but it is not sustainable in the long run. Real life happens and we are going for a new lifestyle not just a couple of weeks. Our body needs to learn how to maintain the new eating/fitness style that is doable for us. So in this case, slow but sure is not only a healthier method but a much more sure one!

DEBRA123FORME- 4 pounds is awesome!! I seriously think that the Biggest Loser has absolutely ruined stepping on the scale for me. I have lost 8 pounds and have been kicking my butt everyday and eating healthy and I should be proud. BUT I still find this thought creeping in every now and then... that if someone loses 1 or 2 pounds a week on the Biggest Loser they are basically shamed and humiliated by everyone and asked how upset they are that they didn't hit the double digits. I know it is ridiculous and the show is messed up, but I still find myself thinking that. I quit watching the Biggest Loser years ago for that reason, but I still remember the dramatic weight loss each week from the show. I don't know if the show has been doing this lately, but I hope not. Any amount of weight loss is progress and should be celebrated.

Everybody loses weight at their own speed, it is all about if you are doing your best or not.
So CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for keeping at it!!

Thank-you michiganlori

I started on the 5th so I am a week behind, but it is getting easier with time, and 4 lbs is nothing to discount, emoticon that's good, in my opinion as long as the numbers are going down I am happy.

congratz on your weight loss, yes I think taking it easy and building up to be able to do more exercise works best for me also, of course I am so out of shape I started extremely low but I have almost doubled that in 2.5 weeks so its good for me.

Hope you got your project done Run.

I overdid it one day last week & ended up so sore I couldn't work out for 2 days. I've decided to focus on just 1 hour a day right now & after month or so I can add to it. On a positive note: I lost 1.4 lbs this week!

I am really having trouble focusing at the job at hand today. I have a major assignment due to my prof in a week and it's not done yet.. not really even close. Today is a work day but I can't seem to focus on it. I have such a bad head cold right now that a sentence or two is all I can do before my mind starts to wander and I am looking on websites, watching tv or reading a book.. and not even realizing how much time I am wasting. To make matters worse, I don't really have any other solid working time on this project meaning that any time between now and when it's due is a 30 minutes here, 1 hour there... not really enough time to make progress... it was supposed to be my revision time, not working time. Eekk!!! I don't know what I am going to do!

Happy to report that I have done my first two winter runs! Yesterday was in the heat (+5C) today was in the inbetween (+1C and snow falling!). The snow was fun but added a different element. I have never run in snow before so I am proud to say that I am doing it!

PS: My exercise streak is up to 16 days in a row.... I have exercised all 16 days this year!!!

yes I did ok at dinner so I still made my calorie goal for today, but I was shocked to see how far off I was. So to be sure I doubled my exercise today, I would like to up the minutes a little at a time, like I did tonight, it will be easier to exercise in the spring and summer and fall, but I am finding ways that aren't boring for me and to mix it up a little, there are some really good videos on this site.
Well I am rambling now, so thats all for me tonight.

Motelmom- I am in the same boat as you. My friend invited me to breakfast today and I thought I could order something healthy too. And I got home thinking I had done ok and then I put it in the food tracker and I had almost eaten my whole days calories in one breakfast. This is the first time I have eaten bad in two weeks though. I feel really bad about it, but I know I will do better tomorrow and I know you will do better too. emoticon

Thank-you , I actually overdid it yesterday at lunch when I thought I was eating healthy, but when I got home and put in the calories I was over.
But I looked at my weekly progress and I am doing good overall so i will try not to beat myself up about little slips.
SSBROWN, you are an exercising machine, that is my slow starting area, but my goal is 10 minutes per day, and for me that is achievable, and I can add to it. But I admire your drive for sure.
I have all my christmas stuff taken down, and now it sits in boxes and bags waiting to be sorted and put away, so it just must be a low priority for me also, I am not going to stress about it. that makes me eat when I am anxious.
Well hope you all have a great day, and those of you sick hope you get to feeling better, I am crossing my fingers I don't get this flu going around.

I have mentioned to my 20 1/2 year old daughter, two or three times that I'd like her to help me (I mean, she does live at home still) and she just giggles when I say something.

I think tomorrow, I will quite possibly be heading to the doctor's office, to get checked out. The worst part of the whole thing is the headache and lack of energy!

Woke up this morning, feeling about the same, no worse, but no better. I was able to get some clothes on and went to the grocery store. I had my 3 year old grand daughter with me and was using coupons and it took me about 2 to 3 hours from getting together to walk out the door to getting home and getting the groceries put away. When I got home, I was exhausted and had a migraine! It still hurts, even after 2 ibuprofen. emoticon
I am hoping tomorrow to get some work done on my laundry and maybe start on taking down the Christmas decorations! I feel terrible that they are still up, but as sick as I have felt I do have a reason.

I had a wonderful fun weekend! Our team was in a curling bonspiel! We curled 6 2-hour games in 3 days, had great laughs and lots of fun! Our team came in second in our division and we even made some money!

Not really read for the week, but I will spend a hour tonight doing some meal planning so that I am ready to go!

I feel like I've been doing well with the fitness side of this. I make a point to sit down at the beginning of each week and schedule what classes I'm going to take at the gym each day. It makes it much easier to stick to.

I've been doing pretty well with eating, but I need to improve. This week I am committing to tracking ALL food & getting at least 64 oz of water a day.

The food tracker is the best! It's a daily check for me as a reminder of what exactly is going into this body. If I 'eyeball' a food, it's usually more than a serving. Getting used to eating right. By adding things to my favorites list it goes pretty quickly to record my food. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

MOTELMOM - You are doing great! Slip-ups are simply a learning experience not to do that again! LOL Just let it go and tomorrow starts a new day!

SSBROWN - wow, you are on a roll. Just a tad bit of advice, don't overdo or you will be so sore you won't be able to move. Slow but sure wins the goal!

I am in awe...but I stepped on the scale ( a few times to double check), but today, I weighed 255.6!!!! YAAAAAY!!!!! I am officially 10 lbs down!!!

Workout today:

I walked (briskly) for 3 miles today. I jogged 5 minutes, and sat in the sauna for 10 minutes. The sauna had me completely DRENCHED when I stepped out. I was already sweating from walking and my brief jog, but the sauna was the icing on the cake! I am pumped up after today's workout! Tonight, I will do 100 crunches. . . it I feel fiesty enough - I may shoot for 200!!! LOL.

Nutrition:
Breakfast 1/cup dry oatmeal to 1 cup water, one medium green apple

Snack: 5 baby carrots and 1 TBSP of Kraft Ranch Anything

Lunch: Cooked Shrimp (15 medium), 1/2 cooked brown rice with 1 TBSP of yellow onion and roma tomato. 1/2 cup of cooked kale, and 1/2 cup of cooked summer squash.

For dinner tonight: Fish with brown rice and zuchinni.

Making sure I am keeping up with my water intake.

good job, i know the feeling, since I have cut out alot of sugars and carbs, i can't get to sleep at night and all I have to drink is 2 or 3 cups of coffee early in the morning, I like feeling better though.
I weighed myself this morning and I had lost 6 lbs so then I went and blew it by eating a donut and a piece of banana bread, I don't know why I do that to myself, its like I am afraid to succeed. But tomorrow is another day, and I did not turn the day into a total binge so I guess that is saying something.

I did not get up today to do my 4:15 a.m. workout, but plan on doing it later today along with walking later in the afternoon.

Eating is constantly improving! I am finding that my body is adjusting well to not having a bunch of sugars and sweets. The transition was rough (I as used to eating lots of junk and toooooo many calories), but now I actually enjoy eating my fruits and veggies! I realize that eating so much sugar and sweets (junk food) was making me feel..."blah." Since committing to eating healthy foods, I feel so much better and more energized.

Since I have started this journey, January 2nd (more like December 30th), I am down a total of 8 lbs! Eating healthy and utilizing the nutrition tool on Spark people really has helped me a lot.

I'm making a brave move: studio cycle. Last time I took the class I felt like I was going to die. I'm going to take a 12-1 class today. Let's hope I make it!

Thanks KRYS210 and MICHIGANLORI for being a good leaders for our team and keeping us motivated by posting new threads and challenges!

Today I kept the streak alive..... 10 out of 10 days this year I have exercised! If I dip into December, it has actually been 13 days in a row now, but I feel that it's more impressive to say that I have exercised every day this year.

I must admit that today was tough... we have extremely cold wind, lots of snow and our roads are horrible today, so it was hard to get motivated..... I so did not want to work out. But, now that I have started this little streak of mine, I find it tough to say no to myself. I want to keep going and see how long I can keep this up!

Two days that the kids have been out of school. I think I am getting cabin fever. My tree is still up but the decorations are down bc the new priest says we have a bit more left to Christmas. So I suppose I will keep it up a few more days.
On the good side of being home...almost all the laundry is done. But tomorrow is the day I strip all beds and start doing this all over again. Anyway, enjoying this time with my kids while I can since I couldn't go into work.

Tomorrow is never promised. Make every day count!

Still feeling quite rough today... my head hurts from the sinus pressure, my throat hurts and my nose if stuffy/runny. =(
I am hoping later today to get some word done on getting the Christmas decorations down and put away. I usually have it all done around the end of the 12 days of Christmas, so around the 6th; however, it's been a weird year this past week or so, either my husband or I have been quite sick, with this mess...
I am hoping to get some of the putting stuff away done today, even though I am feeling a bit under the weather.

I go in spurts with most things, I have done my 10 min. of exercise today, and hope to do more still but there are some days I don't do any, I have been on sparks for over an hour today, some days only here to log in food and exercise. But there is so much to this site, aperson could spend a week on here and still not get to everything, it seems. Well I HAVE to get something else done this morning, so off I go.
Have a good day all us newbees

Too early for me to eat my breakfast. So, I'm catching up on SparkPeople while the family sleeps. Added more exercise to each day this week. Working out indoors with the cold weather here in Oregon. Hoping for some decent weather tomorrow for a bike ride with my son.

Hope you're feeling better ANTB70. Just think of all the wonderful exercise you'll get raking the yard and putting away your Christmas decorations. Take care!

I have had a rough week or so... yesterday and today I have felt terrible! My husband was sick last week, and I thought that we did pretty good about sanitizing stuff and I have had a terrible sore throat, and been quite achy all over. It's been tough to think straight, much less track or eat well....
Oh- I just want to get well AND get fit! Oh- I still need to take my Christmas decorations down and I need to rake my yard, too!

Tracking of the food is by far the greatest tool on Spark that I ultilize. This site has a lot of resources for healthy eating and exercise. Being encouraged by others is also an added bonus!

Good job MMCGEE0501 on trying something new to try for your workouts! I always like to try to do new things as it keeps the workouts new and interesting and I don't get bored!

I like the networking on here. I like the chance to chat with others on here, get their opinions and advice, encourage them and get their encouragement in return!

I am so happy to report that I have kept my workout streak alive and I am 9 days out of 9 days!!! emoticon
