I gained a little when I first started (gaining muscle), but lost inches. Keep track of your measurements and not just the numbers on the scale. You will be pleasantly surprised. This helped me a couple of times when I was getting frustrated with the scale. emoticon

I have been running on and off and have found that I did gain a little too but I also know that I ate more than I should have. I generally have a least one to two bad days a week which I am working on hard to stop. I do enjoy the running and find that time goes by so fast.

3 months ago i began to add jogging into my power walking and i lost weight. But if your gaining than u should look at your cal intake, Foods that you are eating, your snacks. Focus on intervals increase your jogging to a run .When i want to challenge my body just started to to interval which is great.

Hmmm, curious. I've been running for only 3 weeks, 3 times a week and just worked up to doing a mile at a time without having to stop & walk...but no weight gain yet. In fact I've still been losing at my steady pace. I would suppose at some point too you may gain, as you gain in muscle. I also would suggest maybe upping calories, on the days I run I usually add another 100-300. For example- I normaly eat 1400-1500 calories a day, on the days I run I eat closer to 1600-1800.

Glad I read this. I'm just getting started with running and if the scale does go up I won't get too discouraged. Thanks!

Maybe you need to increase your calories since you have increased your exercise. Your body could be in starvation mode.

I also noticed a couple lb gain over the past month. I try not to focus on that, though, because I have noticed my clothes fitting more loosely & you can see a difference in my physique.

But, it does kind of stink that the scale went UP not DOWN!

Rather using the scale to see your progress, look to how your clothes fit better, how you are getting leaner, your measurements, and your higher energy levels. Otherwise the scale will be your enemy. Good for you on completing the C25K. It is so much fun,and so good for you too!

I started jogging again in April, and found my scale numbers go up. I also do weight training at least three times a week, so just thought it had to do with added muscle. My clothes fit better, because I am leaner, but still wish that scale would go down.

I think you have the right idea. When I started running I gained a little in the first few weeks, but then around week 4 the numbers started dropping pretty quick....maybe it is just your body adjusting to the new routine. Good luck with your running!

I began a slow jog and was working my way up to 5 days/week at 30 minutes. Doing well, but found that I am eating the same calories and sticking to the sparkdiet when I began to slowly gain weight again. I'm increasing my ex routine to include more strength training, and thought i would begin to do intervals in my running, so my heart rate intervals from 160bpm, back down to 130, and back up to 160bpm....you get the idea. Anyone have any suggestions of what worked for them???
