I got up early to do W1D1 of C25K and couldn't find the program I had downloaded on my ipod. :( I spent too much time trying to find it and then trying to download it again and then didn't have time to do it before work. I had to hop on my recumbent bike instead and get in a short workout.
So, I'm trying again to find one I can download. To quote another southern gal, "Tomorrow is another day!" (Thank you, Scarlett!) I'm determined to make this running thing happen.

4.12 miles. Thanks for the advice, SimpleLife. I tried a 5:1 run:walk. Including 5 min. warm up walk and longer cool down walk, it took 48 min. I think the actual run/walk part would have made a respectable 5k time.

1.85 mile run/walk today. Yesterday was 1.75 miles.
I have never been a long distance runner so this is all new to me. I just signed up to run my first 5K on November 1st. I am hoping to work my way up to running a half marathon by February 2010.
I found this great training program for my ipod, it's a couch to 5K program that has fun and funky music. And it's free! The website is called www.podrunner.com and I love it! There is also an 8K and a 10K program that you can download. Thought I would share my new find with my fellow sparkpeople! :-)

that's interesting. I also walk/ran this morning for 45 min. I had a five minute warm up and cool down and walk/ran with a 1:1 ratio using Jeff Galloway's method. I went 3.62 miles. That would be slow for a 5k, but I wouldn't walk for 5 minutes at the beginning and end of a race either.
I am addicted to carrying water with me. I wear a waist pack and carry a small sport bottle in it. I like the pack because I also use it to carry my keys, mp3 player and emergency tissue (for longer runs).

I had a great little jog this morning. 3.75 miles in 45 minutes. The kicker here is that the 45 min. included the 5 min. warm up walk, cool down walk, and about 6 min. worth of walking in the middle. So I think I did quite well. Imagine what I can do when I stop walking in the middle. Question, though. Do you all carry a water bottle? I'm not sure if I'm more comfortable with a water bottle in my hand or if I'd like something else better. Thoughts?
Yes, you can!

oh my gosh. I cannot believe I did it; I jogged for 30 minutes without stopping! It was a total of 2.75 miles. It is so great to make fitness goals and achieve them, its such a great feeling to know you are getting stronger even if the scale doesn't move as fast :)

yesterday I could barely get through my workout! I had been off for 4 days from a mini vacation. Usually I go between 5.2 and 5.4 on the treadmil, and in my last workout I was able to go for 25 minutes. Yesterday I started out at 5.6 and could only go for 10 mins! I stopped for about a minute and went for another 10, getting just under 2 miles, oh man it was so hard! tonight I'm goin to aim for 5.4 for 25 minutes, by the end of the week I want to do 30 mintues!

This isn't exactly today, but on Friday I jogged 3 miles on the treadmill in 30 minutes - that was finishing couch-5k for me! Yippee!!! That was the second time I have done the program. The last time that I did it, I was at a 12 min mile pace and this time I wanted to do a 10 min mile pace & I did it! Now I just have to keep with it because when I'm jogging regularly I feel better: more attractive, in a better mood, and healthy!
