I ran a 10K race with my local track yesterday, made a wrong turn on a poorly marked course, and still finished under 1 hour even though I ended up running 6.4 miles instead of 6.2. 59:19 and getting stronger and back to form.

I walked the Rock n Roll in Vegas last Sunday night and shaved off 11 minutes from the last one I did 8 years ago. I finished in 3:30:20. I was in the last corral and passed 2,000 people. I was shocked when I saw my ranking. I did the race with my brother (finished in 2:08) and 77 year old mother (finished in 3:20). We're all doing the Arizona Rock n Roll in January. Woo hoo, I did it!

On November 11th, I earned the "Rock Idol" heavy medal for completing 10 Rock 'N' Roll Half or Full Marathons in 2012. For me, it was 6 halfs and 4 fulls. It was an amazing (and exhausting) experience. :)

I did it! I did it! I did it!!

Completed my first half marathon on Nov 18th in St Petersburg. Time was 2:37:36, pretty good for a 63 year old. Enjoyed it immensely. Love my SparkFriend who came to run it with me (ONEKIDSMOM - Barb) and my SparkFriends who came to photo and support (MIRAGE - 727 and DSSECRETS - Darren).

I also bought a magnet for my car that says "13.1 - I'm Only Half Crazy"

Way to go EVERYONE! Awesome times, too!

I took a big step recently. I've been running for my main exercise and weight loss (I wish). Well the scale has been stuck. I haven't gained but I haven't lost. Just stuck. I'm also a bit of a tightwad. I also like to exercise alone. Well, I hired a personal trainer.......he owns a very small gym. He works out with 1-4 people at a time. It's a little pricey....but I'm worth it, right! I LOVE IT! I love the varliety, it's fun, still getting used to having people around... the trainer is fine because of the instruction.....don't like someone watching me.......although they are worrying about themselves, I suppose. I know, I'm weird. Insecurities. But, I really love it. I started about Nov. 6th, I think and I've lost 3 lbs. already. I didn't expect weight loss so soon because of the muscle weighs more than fat thing but HEY! I'll take it. I expect great things.

WAY TO GO Buffalokay!
I have very similar goals to yours - first to run a 5K - just did that less than a year ago.
Next, to run a 5K in under 37 minutes...and I just did that...TODAY!!!!!!!

I am so stinking stoked and proud of myself - I came on here to toot my own horn, and I saw your post and thought HOORAY for US!!!

I'm also starting a distance program, and training and get through my first half-marathon...but I'm not quite as ambitious as you - I have 6 months to get ready!

Persistence pays off. Last year, I started running with a couch to 5K program. My goal for the year was to run a 5K without walking. Once I did that, my next goal was to run a 5K in under 40 minutes. I ran three 5Ks in under 40 minutes late last year. My goal for this year was to get my 5K time to under 37 minutes. I had to start over after an injury this spring, but last weekend, I met that goal. Last year when I ran that race, my time was 39:52. This year, same race - 36:12. For someone who never ran until my mid-50s that is significant. I may still be slow, but I'm definitely making progress. Now following a distance training program and looking forward to a half marathon in February.

I just started in with a personal trainer and I'm doing some crazy stuff! I've had 3 sessions! Loving it! I'm sore but excited! I have realistic goals and I know I will accomplish them.....maybe surpass them! I'll be in the best shape ever. I also just celebrated my 23rd wedding anniversary and I have a ring that barely fits because it was given to me when I was 70lbs heavier! So much happiness! Good wishes to all of you!

It may seem small to some, but this is HUGE for me! I had a full week of exercising last week, was disciplined with my diet AND (ready for this?) I LOST 6 POUNDS!!! emoticon

I worked most of the day in my garden and cleaning the outside, I also washed my trash bins it was a hard working day for me. emoticon

I decided to take the kidos and dogs out for a walk after dinner. Without even thinking or planning it, I just burst out in a jog. I know it's not much for other people to do this, but I have been so afraid to try jogging. I used to love jogging/running like 20 something years ago and have been trying to work my way up to it. At 5'2 and having very short legs a quick 3 MPH walk takes my breath away.

I don't know how far I actually did. We live in a sub division in which the houses are one 1/2 acre lots and our street lamps are from 4 - 6 lots apart in different areas. I jogged from one street light to the next and alternated every other one.

After we got home and settled down I overheard my daughters telling their father ( in very enthusiastic tones) how they couldn't believe I did it. That was the icing on the cake to hear them brag to their father how good I did.

I'm hoping this is just the motivation I need to continue on and get over this hump.
