Running my HM Sept 22 - Melissa's Road Race. Located in beautiful Banff, Alberta - National Park and is surronded by mountains. It's such a great place to run cause the scenery is to die for.

Race is 22km which is just a little more than a HM which is 21.1km. Don't know why they it's done this way for this race.

Wow! We've got a little team going for the Women's Half here!!! I am considering Monumental Half, but I'm worried b/c my first ever half marathon is only 2 weeks prior to that.

Do you guys think that's enough recovery time? Robert????

Oh Jan...my Aunt Lois who recently passed away used to say that all the time (I love it, I love it, I love it!!!!!) I thought about her this morning on my run and I've been missing her dearly today. Thank you for that unintentional sweet reminder of her today. So special.

I love your enthusiasm, Leah - and I appreciate it! Your goal sparked me to keep on! Things happen. Oh, you know how it is. You make plans that are important in meeting your goal as well as contribute to your health. And then something happens. It could be anything. For me, it happened this morning.

I woke up to find that our poochie had been ill during the night, V-E-R-Y ill (he's bouncing today) and badly soiled our entry way runner - and the hallway - and part of the dining and living rooms. Well, there went my early morning super-charged walking. So, it's Leslie Sansone for me this evening. It's a good workout all right, but really not quite the same as the real thing. You know, dreading the hills and then feeling triumphant when you'd reached the top, having maintained your pace. That sort of thing.

And then I open your morning post. What a charge it gave me! No use in focusing on the loss of one walk! Smile and get on with it!! I love it, I love it, I love it!!!!! Thank you, Leah.

OK, friends...I have gone and lost my mind. If you see my blog today (which I have yet to write), there will be more explanation, but the long and the short of it is...I've decided that my first half marathon will be October 20th. Lots of reasons...like I said, check out my blog today if you want to know them.

But...I figured I'd best put a post up here to see if anyone else is also planning on taking the leap early. In particular, the beginning runners.

I know that, with my race being in October, I am starting the "real" training plan (which is a 15-week plan, but I'm adding a few more weeks in to get my endurance up a bit more)...literally MONDAY. As in, next week.

I have yet to post a pre-race training plan on this board, as I fear it would be too much too soon for a lot of us. So...if you are looking to push yourself a bit and run your first half before next May, let us know, will ya? I can send you the training plan and Robert and others can help us all out along the way with tips on hydrating, staying fueled for the long miles, running equipment, diet issues, mental hurdles, etc.

I expect a lot more activity on our training boards in the months to come.
