then we came back down to the lake level

So before I could leave.. the Camp owner phone me, the relief cook didn't show up. Chaos but they managed to get breakfast served with some phone instructions from me. I then returned to Camp and cooked and served supper and prepared the supper, gave clear concise instructions on how to heat and serve it. Then at 1 in the dead heat of this gorgeous day my friend and I hiked and geocache.

I'm at 90 floors elevation and just over 20,000 steps in for my day of rest...

Good morning, it's 8 Am here where I am. In half an hour from now I'm going geocaching with a friend. The caches are up a mountain side. I will gain elevation, not sure of the actual step count as the distance is not great, but so steep..

. Dalhousie enjoys his behind the cabin times with me

It's been a crazy week... last Thursday I visited Mom.. found out she was back in hospital... nurses informed Noni and i that she was declining and I should talk to her doctor. Talking more with the nurses they felt she would not last very long at all.. later that night the doctor phoned me.. he thinks two or three months ... maybe longer..
so every night we been going to visit her after work.
She seems to be improving...
work has been stressful as well... yesterday we fed 240 campers... every other day it was 121 hungry mouths. Also I suspect my relief cook to be stealing food ... I talked to the owner ...
we won't mention the stressful relationship I have with the kitchen coordinator...

. Seen while driving home from a visit with Mom

. I have been having little camp fires behind our cabin to release stress.

we bought a lawn chair.. our swing was broken over the winter.. thenowner says he will replace it.. in the mean time I can't wait I want to relax outside on my afternoon coffee break

Sundays are normally difficult days for me to get my ten thousand steps in.. Today I really didn't believe it would happen. This morning we skipped church, I was just feeling unmotivated to move. Around lunch time I decided I had to take the Dalhouise outside... even he hadn't asked to go out today thus far.
Once we walked around the block, I came back and began to collect and organize our camp supplies and load the car. Many steps began to add up as I did that. Then a trip to the grocery store to buy food for camp.. more steps.
The car was full - very full. So Noni and I drove to camp to unload.. Lots of steps doing that.
Since it was not dark and kind of nice outside -- we went for a little walk and a steep hill climb to get more steps in and floors recorded on my Fitbit.

Tomorrow we move to Camp and begin our six month contract.
I expect 15,000 to 20,000 steps per day just by working in the kitchen everyday my 8 to 10 hours ... but what will be hard is getting floors in as Camp has no stairs for me to climb.

I wonder how Fitbit will record my cycling ?

Dalhousie I agree is probably healthy and strong because of the exercise and life at camp -- but these are no match for Old Age. He is like his human... more now then before.. I am loosing my hearing... below normal now was the result of the test I had done last November. I have been blind in one eye ( almost blind very limited) since I was about five or six years old. And I certainly have old age aches and pains that working with youth can't prevent..

The circle is complete -- Squamish to Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons, to Powell River, to Lund, to Vancouver Island-- to Comox, to Gold River, to Campbell River, to Port Hardy to Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay to Squamish (home) over 1300 km (807 miles) driven from Monday to Saturday ... not counting the three Ferries, and I still managed to get over 84968 steps in. I even broke my record with 81 floors the one day.
What a Road Trip it was..

Road Trip - this was day Four... will catch up once we get home so many things we seen and so many pictures

So bad - very very bad !
We were out walking with the Dalhousie stopped to take some pictures and somehow began talking to a local. This person highly recommended to go to this bakery ... the magic words -- Noni always checks out bakeries. Most are terrible with only a few things.. this one was is the best one we have ever walked into so far. ( Noni loves to bake)

The car was taken to the garage last night, it was to be there all day today for work on the transmission hoses and a rear end seal. I was told it wouldn't be ready until late today. Well this morning around ten they phoned me and said it was ready. So off I walked to pick it up in sunshine, after I walked Dalhousie around the bloc first.
Returned home and suggested to Noni we go back up the gondola while it was sunny.
Well our intention was good, but it clouded over as we drove there. Going up the mountain, rain began to fall. Well it sprinkled some, cleared, clouded, sprinkled again... maybe we'll have better weather next time. Regardless we had a good hike and some excellent views.

























Meanwhile at home sitting in my spot.. that rascal Dalhousie waits

After the Provincial Park walk - we took the Dalhousie home and Noni and I went up the Sea to Sky Gondola. It will be our first time in two years. First time we ever bought a pass... this year the company changed passes from seasonal to annually. I'm also counting on more time off of camp this year. The promise of a relief cook for weekends... so I hope to use this pass much more.

373.4 miles walked since I bought my Fitbit on January 12th

This morning I sat on the couch - sat and sat waiting for the rain to fall. At lunch it remained just overcast so I decided to go for a walk seeking some birds. Knee is sore so I figured I would go easy and slow, however I wanted to reach my 10,000 step goal .. when I finally hobbled home, I was surprised at how far I had walked. But I'm extremely pleased with the birds I seen.
I couldn't photograph a blue heron nor the woodpecker nor the raven, but I did see ones I never or rarely see here in Squamish.

I could had stayed in bed today much longer, but No I had to take my car to the garage for service. I look out the window and my heart sank... it is still snowing and it's so gloomy.
Well no choice I must drop off the car, but I decide to walk home 3.2 miles instead of waiting for shuttle service.
We will decide later if I walk back to pick it up or take the free shuttle from the garage.
At least I try to see the beauty in this .. yet another snow day..

























Home... maybe I'll go have a nap..

I don't know how I did it ... before church I walked Dalhousie around the bloc, Ater church the sun was shining so we drove over to Nexen Beach and did a walk.
Came home and walked Dalhousie around the bloc and a little further over to the next bloc as well. Came home and I have my 11,000 steps in.. I'm so pleased and surprised and all this was in between snow/ rain....
As I write this from my couch looking out the window it is snowing heavily but melting just as fast.. I don't want to go out again...

. Trail one at Alice Lake Provincial Park

Today turned out to be an excellent day to walk once I left Alice Lake Provincial Park. There I hiked in rain, and a snow blizzard and very treacherous ice covered trails. Once I complete a 1.5 km loop,around Stump Lake I drove ten minutes away to trails that were bare and spring like environmental temperatures. I hiked in this area for about an hour, went home ate and then returned with my wife and the Dalhousie. What a fantastic day...




I'll leave this area.. I prefer the next trail much more.. however I am thinking I want to go back to Alice Lake with proper spikes for my boots and two hiking poles..

Now for some happy trails...

How to keep myself motivated to walk -- especially in the pouring rain? Well today I walked to the post office to mail,several postcards. Then I decided to head north along the Sea to Sky Trail. The last I remember it was not completed in this section- today I walked along to see how far they have gotten. Wow the trail is done to the new subdivision they are building. I think if it was more dry I would had kept going.. but at this New subdivision I turned around.. I was getting wet. I'll be back either by foot, or I'll get the bike out.. almost time to start riding my bike.

Tomorrow-- we'll see how motivated and how I feel in the morning I want to hike at Alice Lake Provincial Park.. my day pack is packed with treats and a change of clothes.







I'm craving burgers.. help,me to,stay strong .. I must resist

Pouring rain in Squamish. I woke early, hoping it would be clear, I waited all morning sitting on the couch hoping... even the Dalhousie slept on the footstool hoping I would not take him out in the pouring rain. Finally I had to get off the couch.. I need to get my ten thousand steps in..
I woke the Dalhousie-placed his raincoat on, I put my rain pants on and my raincoat and out the door we went. Dalhousie just went around the block - then I returned him to the warm dry footstool. I on the other hand went back out into the pouring rain.

I'm hiking virtually the Appalachian Trail on walking4fun -- here is my progress so far...

March 2, 2017 (4.8 miles) .. I hope to get a few more steps in today... we'll see

This morning very early before breakfast-- before I even had a coffee I went out the door and walked to town and back.
Came home and walked the Dalhousie around the block.
Later I went swimming then walked around the recreation center a couple of times.
Came back home and once more walked the Dalhousie.
Slowly the step count rose and I have walked 10 miles ...

I truly have beautiful area to walk ... these photos are all from this mornings walk.

It was a little chilly this morning to go out the door. However I want to walk six miles today if I can. Concerned about the sitting time going to and from Vancouver in the car, but hopefully walking around in the mall will add up the miles / steps and just maybe I will get a small hike in too

Fingers crossed..
I woke up from a strange dream, I'm not all that into dream interpretations, but....
My dream... my younger mother was living in the house of her late parents who were alive in the house as well.... for some reason I was having a issues about what room I was to have with my late older brother.. I was involved in a breakup and was moving in, also quarreling over the use of the phone and limiting time talking to girlfriends. I wake up...
Laying in bed for a few moments I realize I don't need to rush to the washroom...
I go there anyways and all seems normal once more.. has the infection finally broken..
There seems to be no issues at this time..... fingers crossed. Today is the last day for the antibodies.... I am also just realizing I actually had a full night sleep too instead of the several wake ups...

Side note...
We were at the pool the other day, two younger female teenagers came in and for at least half an hour sat together at one end of the pool in tiny two peace bathing suits. The area they were in was getting wonderful sunlight streaming in through large windows. They used their cell phones taking pictures of each other posing .. I know things like this happen, I know often worse poses take place behind closed doors ... but these tiny two piece bathing suits were not concealing much. I wonder where those pictures would end up out their in cyberspace.
I talked to the life guard about this... she only said she saw them too and wished they would actually swim, there is no rule saying you can't take pictures and they were in a quiet part of the pool and were not taking pictures of anyone else, so nothing could be said or done....

Yesterday morning when I walked the Dalhousie to the park, in a backyard next to it I noted...
In the yard was three very young girls wearing pjs and housecoats - not sure if they had slippers on or not - certainly not dressed for outside on a cold morning. One was playing with a huge dog with a stick, one was just walking around, another was doing something in the mud.
What really caught my eye though was a very small boy wearing nothing - Nothing - but a sagging diaper who was in the garden picking up things. The temperature was if I remember correctly was -4 c It may had warmed up slightly by the time I walked Dalhousie but it still was cold I was wearing three layers and I was chilled.
Eventually a man came outside wearing a black housecoat talking on a phone. I just kept on walking in the park and the man stood in the door way talking on the phone not really paying attention to the kids ... that was how I left the park.... what in the world is wrong with people?

So today I took my Mom out to dinner at Boston Piza. She was extremely happy to spend time with us. She arrived by handicapped bus and Noni and I walked over in the rain.
The Snow has stopped, but the pouring rain has made everywhere so slushy. We had to wade through puddles that were almost as high as our hiking boots. I'm sure glad I water proofed then just a little while ago. Well we ate our lunch brought home extra for our supper at home. Yes we walked home too in the rain.
I won't be going out for any more hikes today.. once more low step count for the day. Just over 6000 steps...

So I got out the door for four walks today .. my knee is suffering a little and my back is hurting. My back began hurting in the swimming pool today as I did laps. I was hoping after sitting in the hot tub it would be better.. that helped somewhat but I still feel it.
I went to the doctor today.. the new medicine he had prescribed for me .. was giving me extreme dizziness and nausea. So today he changed it.. I wonder if that has anything to do with the little weight loss ...?

Of course I had my camera with me most of today.. enjoy........















Did I mention that we stopped to eat lunch?









I think the couch is calling me back!

February 6, 2017 (6.0 miles). 13,000 steps

Well all morning I just sat on the couch. Then just before noon I suggested to Noni that we go for a walk. We walked to Wendy's to buy a chilli and Dalhousie had a burger.
I'm surprised now that I'm home I still feel strong... that is a good thing.

Here are a few things we seen on our neighbourhood walk
putting on some spikes for traction

just like the real trail, we have bridges to cross streams



I'm a bird watcher always
