The star fish planks are still a challenge for me but working on them getting better at regular plank still trying to hold it for minute not even close emoticon but decided that i needed the challenge of Dr. OZ plank. i don't do the routine but working on in parts which is better than nothing maybe by the end July I will have it where i can do each one for a 30 seconds not sure about the 5 minute work out. yard work short walk and gym tread mill where on the list. still have that awful cough that goes with the allergy thing. emoticon emoticon

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE

What a lovely morning! Mr. Spot and I headed to town this morning. Walked 70 minutes! Lots of walkers this morning . . . some new faces!

Made our way to the park by our house and did the track, ST with the park benches and used the jungle gym for pull ups! Great work out. T-Stand, one legged stand and stretches. Home to use the balance ball for back extensions. Tried Dr. Oz's 5 minute work out again, too. Doing one piece at a time! Star Fish planks -- 12 reps held for 14 seconds (progress!) NOT Dr. Oz's planks though. Working on that. HARD!

Did a little gardening afterwards this morning, too.

Barb you are so right about the work out right now I decided to add little bits at a time and by the end of the month or first part of July add them together making it part of our summer challenge
to write a list of at least 6 “me time” activities with your ideas to overcome barriers.
Fast feet the saw plank the side jack the bench press then add weight
The barriers the fact when I started I was only able to one task at a time and by July 4 I will do the entire routine it will take longer then five minutes at first but that will be the goal for July 13 their its writing it’s also in my journal. yes its emoticon and Friday is going to be day 4 of my streak. still have the silly cough but the Honey and lemon has worked great at night with the coughing. thanks Barb have to salad and desert items I need on my shopping list.

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE

Fortunately the sun was out, so Mr. Spot and I were able to do our neighborhood walk. Still plenty of puddles and branches down from last night's storm. But we were able to get a 70 minute walk in. Ended our walk @ the park. Walked the track. Did stretches using the park bench. Did T-Stand and One Legged Stand for balance.

Once home, was on the back porch and did some light weight for my arms. Back extensions on the balance ball and finished up with trying Dr. Oz's 5 minute work out. What a killer! Can't really do his side planks but giving it a try.

Doesn't it feel good when that little emoticon loses the battle! Good for you for getting to the gym!

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Nice walk early this morning. Spot and I walked the neighborhood circuit. Ended up @ our favorite park and found some canine and human friends! Walked the track (Spot really likes that). Did some pull ups on the jungle gym! (Guess there's some advantages to being SHORT! LOL It fit me perfectly). Did push ups using the back of the park bench. did my T-Stand and one legged stand using the park bench as a support as well. Star Fish Planks: 12 reps, 13 seconds.

Watched Dr. Oz yesterday he had a five minute work that looked like fun
Jacks but you only used your legs like the jumping jack and clapped your hands in front of your for 30 seconds then did saw plank instead of hold the position still you did a saw like motion with your arms and legs 30 seconds them used hand weights going from chest to over your head 30 seconds and repeated the plank for 30 seconds repeated the three exercise until you have completed five minutes. he said it would be up on his web site might have to give them time as it was not there last evening when i looked .

really enjoying the towel work out going to have to print that one out.

Yesterday was a full day! Clara had admissions testing to guide placement in the Fall. PHEW! good thing I got an early start on the walk and gardening! But it was actually nice! The college campus is HUGE and I walked every sq. inch of it! That was nice. Also found a PARK there so did my squats and arm push ups using the park bench. Walked the track too. Lovely campus.

Then, Mr. Spot the Wonder Dog and I (yes I took him with) walked off campus a while -- a little more crowded for walking and so we headed back to the campus.

Found out they had Wi-Fi, too, so sparked a little! Good to know for the future that I can bring the lap top.

Clara finished all her testing and we headed home. Had to finish working in the garden. The veggies are sprouting and the herbs are looking great!

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE

As above, did tons of walking! Started out with my walk with Mr. Spot before we left for Clara's testing. Did the neighborhood walk and ended @ the park to walk the track and do my park bench strength training. Did squats and arm push ups using the back of the park bench. LOTS of people out early so that was nice. Mr. Spot got to see his buddies and I got to see their humans! Did lots of walking on campus and it was wonderful. Last night did light weights for my arms. Balance ball back extension, T-Stand, One Legged stand done. Star Fish Planks -- 12 reps, held 13 seconds. Woot!

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE

Out early (5:15 am) to get a walk in with Mr. Spot before the day started. Cool day, but not bad for walking at a good pace. Walked in a different area and ended up at YET another park (lived here almost 6 yrs. and never found this park before! Nice park, but no track). So, we walked around that park, and headed back to our park near home to use the track. Used a park bench to step up and down. Used the back of the bench for arm ST. Stretches needed afterwards! Finished up @ home with back extensions on the balance ball and star fish planks. 12 reps held for 13 seconds! One more second. Success! Progress!!

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE

Was up early again (5 am) and out the door to do my walk with Mr. Spot. Cool, but perfect walking weather this morning. We went to our favorite park. Did the track. Did some ST for my arms using the park benches, and stretches. I guess everyone else slept in this morning. Smart!! Balance ball back extensions and crunches, T-Stand and One-Legged stand completed. Finished off with planks and side planks this morning (no star fish today). Did 10 reps and was able to hold for 30 seconds each!! Felt stronger today. Got into the garden to "putz". Looking good. Little baby tomatoes on the plants and peppers too. Hurray!

OUTSIDE ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Mr. Spot and I did our neighborhood circuit early this morning. It was nice to see the sunrise! Did the track @ the park. Then did ST using the park bench to do bicep and triceps push ups, and stretches. Felt good! Used the balance ball for back extensions and curls. Star Fish planks: 12 reps, 12 seconds.

Did a little work in the garden, but have to get ready for my parents' visit, so off I go!

OUTDOOR ST.BALANCE

Had a 70 minute walk w/Mr. Spot this morning. (We both earned our bananas!) Took a different route to town this morning then headed back to my favorite park. Did the track, used the park bench for bicep and tricep exercises and squats. LOTS of people this morning so we had our own little "work out class!" Hooza! Got home and did the balance ball back extension, light weights for the biceps, triceps and wrists and of course . . . Star Fish Planks. Still stuck on the 12 reps 12 seconds. I'll be happy with that! Finished up with T-Stands and one legged stands. I can really sense a better balance! wooHoo.

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Mr. Spot and did a quick walk in the neighborhood and then I finished up on the treadmill. Used my light weights to work the biceps, triceps, chest and it felt good. Used the balance ball to do back extensions, and crunches. Gardened yesterday, but looks like not today. Veggies and flowers are happy campers, so there you have it.

Did my Star Fish Planks and the usual -- 12 reps for 12 seconds. Guess it's kind of like weight loss -- the body plateaus till it gets used to my new level of strength and then will move on. I am feeling strong, though, so I'll be happy.

Did my T-Stand and one legged stand. Kind of plateaued on the improvements on balance, BUT will sojourn on.

Alayna: Thanks! Can't s ay I love Star Fish Planks yet, but hey . . . I'm doing 'em!

The little Mr. and I got out for our walk. Cloudy, gray and cool . . . again . . .BUT comfortable for sure to do a long walk. We discovered yet another park on the other side of town. We walked the neighborhood and headed out. This park is nice, but doesn't have a track. That's all right. We walked for 70 minutes, so think we covered it! Meeting new canines and their pooches taking different routes, so that's good. And I remember reading somewhere (maybe Spark?) that varying the route sparks the brain! Well, my brain should be really sparked today!

Discovered yet another park. No track, but didn't need it with walking 70 minutes! Did bicep and tricep workouts using the park benches, squats, calf stretches and hamstring stretches. Star Fish planks: 12 for 12 seconds . . . again. I will persevere!

Hope it doesn't rain, because have some gardening to do, but Mother Nature is in charge of that one. Already have some green peppers popping out and the lettuces are looking fabulous! Have to feed them their Miracle Grow today.

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Took my walk this morning with Mr. Spot. Beautiful morning. Walked to town and then to my park. Walked laps on the track, which was crowded this morning! (crowded = 3 others -- LOL!) Did squats using the park bench and did hip flexor extensions using the bench for balance. Did "park bench" push ups (using the back of the park bench to balance and taking an angular stance to be able to bend @ the elbows and do push ups -- like using the wall for push ups). Balance ball for crunches and back extensions. Did some ST with my light weights. Star Fish planks -- still 12 for 12.

Worked in the garden too! Nice.

The sun is out. That makes the day a winner! Spot and I got to visit lots of his canine companions and their humans as the sun was out and everyone wanted to enjoy it! We walked to town, then walked to our park. Did the track (Spot always loves that). The took time to swing on the swing! YES, some other adults actually joined me! Imagine that. FUN! Did my T-Stand, One-Legged Stand and stretches using the park bench. Felt good. Balance ball for back extension and crunches once I got home. Star Fish planks: 12 reps, 12 seconds. Haven't moved up yet. Working on it! Wall push ups . . . working on the arms to get them stronger. Pilates helps the flexibility too.

Was able to get a walk in with MR. Spot this morning. Did our usual suspects . . . walked the neighborhood and went to the park. Walked the track and did stretches using the park bench. Balance ball for back extensions, T-Stand, One-legged stand. Did ST @ home w/my light weights. Did them on the back porch (it's dry right now). No sun though.

Walked this morning early with Mr. Spot. Did walk to town this time and went to another park. No track there but plenty of steps going to that park. Did my T-Stand, One-legged Stand and some tai chi! fun. Even got on the swings today. No one else was @ the park (oh well . . . not as popular a park as my neighborhood park I guess). Did my star fish planks -- again 12 reps for 12 seconds. Wall push ups to round things off when I got home.

Helping Jason with the lawn mowing. He mows, I sweep! Lots of mustard weed . . . they are so invasive! Have to pull them up and bag 'em. Can't even leave them in a compost pile. Oh well . . . got lots of that pulled.

Outside ST/Balance Training

HORRID night. Cloud to ground lightening, winds in excess of 60 mph, torrential rain. My plants/flowers survived, thankfully. Thought they might get drowned! But they're ok. Expecting more of the same this afternoon adn evening. Hope it's a little less severe.

Mr. Spot was able to get me on a walk this morning thru the neighborhood. LOTS of tree limbs down, but very surprised . . . not as much as I expected with the winds last night!

We did get to the park and used the track. Did my squate and stretches using the park benches. T-Stands and one-legged stands. . . done. Star Fish planks . . . 12 reps for 12 seconds. Stationary, but that's all right. Still plugging away @ it. Oh, did some banana stretches for the back this morning, Fran! LOL Mr. Spot wanted to help me. Poor guy.

Walked the track. Used park benches for stretches and squats. T-stand and one legged stands for balance. Then did my star fish planks -- 12 reps and held for 12 seconds.

Since the weather didn't cooperate, I got on the treadmill. Not exciting, but got the job done. Mr. Spot wanted to join me, but it was a little too fast for his poor legs. He tried though!

Used the balance ball for back extension and push ups! Saw it on the Spark exercises. Good work out! T with my light weights. Rounded it off with my T-Stand and one-legged stand for balance. Of course, did my planks. Star fish planks -- Did 12 reps and held for 12 seconds. Maintaining. I'll take it!

Wow! I had NO idea how difficult finding herbs was going to be! Lordy be. I have spent 3 days in hot pursuit of : basil (finally found some purple basil -- excellent!), thyme (got lemon thyme), oregano, chive, rosemary, cilantro (REALLY hard to find!), sage (also almost non-existant, but got one!), and dill (that has always been difficult to find, even the seeds). So they are happily sitting in my garden waiting for the sun. Wait . . . they may be waiting awhile for that! **SIGH** Supposed to rain today. NOT so far, but clouding up nicely.

So, most of the day was spent outside looking for and planting my herbs. Garden looking good now. Tomatoes, red/yellow/green peppers, arugala (we'll see if that comes up), and strawberries.

Mr. Spot & I went for our walk today and many canines with their humans. We have new neighbors and they have an absolutely adoreable little weiner dog! Don't know his name (his humans weren't out) but hope to meet them soon.

We made our usual stop @ the park and did our ST and CV. Used the track. Not in the best shape right now as it hasn't really had too much of a chance to dry out, but what the heck. I played in the garden and was a mess anyway. No problem-o.

Took my walk w/Mr. Spot, worked in the garden and did help DH with the lawn. Today's adventure -- edging. He ALWAYS has problems with the edger but refuses to get a new one. **SIGH**

Back extensions on the balance ball, T-Stand, One legged stand. Star Fish Planks -- 11 for 12 seconds again. Getting better.

SHORT outdoor work today as it is drizzly! UGH But did walk the neighborhood w/Mr. Spot. Then did the treadmill. Balance work on the balance ball (back extensions, crunches), t-stand, one legged stand. And TA-DA, star fish planks, 9 reps with holding 10 seconds. Turtle type progress, but I'll take it!

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Walked thru the neighborhood. Enjoying the flowers everyone is planting. Ended our walk @ the park and did my ST using the park benches. Walked the track. Did my T-Stands and One-Leg Stands. When I got home did my back extensions on the balance ball. Feelt great! OK, the planks -- 9 starfish planks and held for 9 seconds each! Slow like a snail progress, but it's PROGRESS.

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Wracking up the walking miles outdoors. Enjoying that a lot. Did the neighborhood circuit today. Good thing I like to walk, because seems like every road is under construction! Walking is so much easier than driving around here. Got to the park and did my circuit there, too. ST with the park benches, including squats and calf lifts. Stretching after I did my circuit around the track. Felt good. Mr. Spot likes it too! Sees all his canine comrades.

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Out this morning for the walk w/Mr. Spot and did the park track. Used the jungle gym! Used the park benches for ST (squate, calf lifts today). Did my T-Stand and One-Legged stand.

Stability ball for back extensions and feel a little improvement in core strength -- a key for balance. WooHOoo! And of course, th plankies. Gotta love 'em, eh! Did my 9 and held for 10 seconds. Slow study, I am, but oh well. I will not give up!

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Got Mr. Spot the Wonder Dog out early before people start "invading" for the garage sale. Really nice this morning. Met lots of walkers this morning. Headed to the park and did my park workout and walked the track. Used my stability ball and did crunches, T-Stand, One-legged Stand, and really see a slight improvement in my balance. WooHOoo! Planks and Side Planks -- Was able to do 9 and held for 10 seconds each. Not bad for an "older" lady, eh!

Spark coach had the challenge today for us to do planks and have a goal of 1 minute emoticon no not all at once but see how many it took us to do for a minute. since i can hold one for about it would take me a long time to get to a minute. my mini vacation really set me back then dealing with allergies but i slowly moving along did get my 50 lunges each day this week and like Barbs blog on change I am working on changing my work plans a small start but a start Tomorrow is a new start in our challenge. hope everyone is ready to go

Alayna: Oh my -- that's fantastic! Keep a'goin'! I do"girlie push-ups" (from the knee position) but am doing more wall push ups and will try "regular push ups".

When John was home he just knocked 'em off. . . show off! But he has arm like tree trunks for pete sake!

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Out this morning before the rain sets in. Doesn't look like its going to be an all-day event, but enough rain to soak. Star Fish Planks -- 8 held for 8 seconds. Sheesh! Slow, but progress.

Mr. Spot the Wonder Dog and I did our walk around the neighborhood. Did walk laps around the track and do ST with the park benches, but finished up @ home with my treadmill. Did bicep and tricep curls. Stability Ball for back extensions has helped my core I think. One legged stand and T-Stand. Good to go.

OUTDOOR ST/BALANCE TRAINING

Did the neighborhood circuit and ended @ the park where I walked the track. Felt good! Did ST with the park benches (tricep/bicep dips, quads, calf lifts). We got to enjoy the company of others who are doing the walking too and now some are following my example using the park benches for ST! Too sparky, eh! Star fish planks -- 8 and held for 8 seconds. Slow progress, but progress! Did my balance ball back extensions and T-stands. I am seeing an improvment in my balace!

Success with my star fish planks -- 8 for 8 seconds. Progress. Mr. Spot and my neighborhood walk was wonderful today. Ended up @ the park and did my track walking, park bench exercises (did laps around the track @ the park and used the benches to do bench pressed for the biceps & triceps. Stretches too. I did my star fish planks -- 7 for 7 seconds. did my T-Balance, did balance ball exercises for the back (back extensions on the balance ball), one legged stand. No outdoor walking today as the weather is rainy and cool, but did the treadmill. And used the piano bench to do exercises I would have done using the park bench. Voila!
