2009 - I visited family in NC. We hiked up Grandfather Mtn, walked across the Mile High Swinging Bridge, visited a waterfall, caverns, and old haunted general stores. I was AMAZING. I haven't been back, but I AM GOING NEXT YEAR or bust!

2002, I started LA weight loss that January and lost 63 lbs and wore my first EVER bikini. I also was afraid to learn to swim because of a near death drowning incident in 1993, so I didn't have the courage to learn! After I loss the weight, I felt confident and I wanted to learn. I started swimming lessons and I DID it!! So not only did I get to wear my bikini that year, I got to swim in it...LOL!!!

Like so many of my Spark friends who had several favorites i have many the camping trips as a kid when we would go to the OR. coast and camp another trip was to MT. Rush More and the Bad lands.
My brother now lives in the Denver Co. area what fun it is going there and visiting sites around the area Rocky Mountain Park/ Garden of the Gods Pikes Peak / Red rocks / and so many more. I last went in 2010. My goal is to return in 2013 but that reason belongs in another area it a reward for meeting a goal.emoticon

1979. Summer after high school, and I had the most incredible, low-paying summer job as the head sailing instructor and head boys counselor at a sleepaway camp on the Coast of Maine. Words do not do it justice, but web sites do (you know I would...):

1972 - because I spent weeks singing from California to Alaska to NY to the Bahamas and back across the south to CA again. I think we went to 36 states. It was amazing and provided a lifetime of great memories.

Worked every summer since.

I do have to say that I also have awesome memories of all my childhood memories - I am blessed.

The best summer of my life was June 1983. After a month of rainy Saturdays, DH and I had a clear sunny day to exchange our vows. We had a short honeymoon in a secluded bed and breakfast in the Poconos (When we booked it we were told they would let us reserve the room and stay but it was officially closed for the weekend, so we would not get breakfast) In the morning we had the most scrumptious croissants and sweet butter. Do you remember when butter had actual taste? Yum! Nearly 30 years later I can still taste it. We also went canoeing on a lake the first time I had ever been in a canoe.emoticon

The best summer of my life was 2010. I got married in May, in a beautiful garden, on a perfect, sunny day. The in June, we went to Orlando for our honeymoon and spent a week at Universal Studios and met some great people.

My big reward when I reach my goal weight is to go back and experience all of those things again. We will have a second honeymoon, but I will be able to to all of the things I was too afraid or tired to do because of my weight.

Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!

1984-I was on summer break from the Univ of Washington and a friend went to work on a dude ranch in Wyoming-they needed more help so i got on a greyhound bus and went to Jackson Hole and cleaned cabins, gave horse back rides, took our guests to rodeos and Yellowston The drinking age was 18 in Wyoming back then and I was 19 so we would go gto the million dollar cowboy bar and flirt with the tourists-ah I love all summers-looking forward to 2012!

1982 - We packed up all 4 of the kids, took them on a plane (their first time ever) and spent a month in Clearwater, FL, with my mother.

2003 - DH and I spent 3 weeks in Provence, just the 2 of us, enjoying the sun and the beautiful Meditteranean coast - Nice, Cannes and Monte Carlo. Lovely!

I guess I need to pick a few:

2006 - My son was born. Actually that was a pretty rough summer, but I can look back on it with fondness

2004 - My wife and I got married, and had a great honeymoon in Puerto Rico

1997 - I started dating the girl who would eventually become my wife. I say girl because we were in high school at the time.

All summers of my childhood are tied for 4th, because my parents always "dragged" us on summer vacation.

1996 - I left for Puerto Rico for the first time. While there, I met my future wife, learned how to speak Spanish, played baseball (that was the winter but summer doesn't end there). Even the hurricane was fun.

1997 - I married my wife after a short engagement. I don't know how many people in both of our families thought it was because she was pregnant. It was nice that when nine months came and went that the suspicion changed to "So when are you two going to have kids?"

Every other summer after that is tied for third. Summer is the best time of the year by far.

the summer of 2010. It was the last year my older sister was alive. I took her camping, we had a picnic on the 4th of July, even though she couldn't walk and just did fun stuff with her throughout the summer months.

Every day, you have a choice, from the moment you wake up: to make this day a good day or something else. You can choose your attitude. You can change your life! What will you choose today?

1990. Even though it was probably the most stressful as well. I did the Bike Ride Across Georgia, my divorce was finalized, I moved from Atlanta to Seattle, went on two oceanographic cruises and on the first I had a childhood dream come true--I got to make a journey to the seafloor (1.5 mile "dive" in the submersible Alvin in the Pacific Ocean just west of the Juan de Fuca Ridge).

Best summers were as a kid. No worries. Excitement. Just good healthy fun! Best memories for sure were always camping. We would shout "I LOVE THE MOUNTAINS!" Camp Santa Teresita as an 11 and 12 yr old. A WHOLE week at camp. Fun began with riding 45 miles in the back of an open flat bed truck from Fresno to Bass Lake (just outside Yosemite). Hiking. Canoes. Crafts. Skits. Snack bar. Mail from home. Singing around the campfire. The smells of the pine trees. The dirt on your shoes. Getting alcohol rub downs after showering. Oh, to be that kid again with no cares and no responsibilites! Just living for the adventures to unfold within each new day.

The best summer of my life was 1984, because it was the year that my husband and I met and were falling in love. The music was awesome....think Hall and Oates, Lionel Richie, Elton John, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson...etc. 27 years later we are still in love....still love the music...and looking forward to the best summer ever 2012!

The best summer of my life was undoubtedly 2007. I was in a new relationship (with my now husband) and we spent the whole summer travelling back and forth between Montreal and Ottawa to visit each other. I even got to spend a weekend at his family's cottage, which was the first time I'd been to a cottage. There is nothing like swimming in a cold sparkling river!

2001 , because that was the year my husband and I were married, July 7th. We went to Virginia and stayed four weeks at his brother's lake house with the beautiful Virginia mountains surrounding it. We enjoyed the beautiful sights, went swimming, fishing, and sailing. I had never been on a sail boat. It was wonderful. No stress, no work, and no teenagers, well at least for the first two weeks, they joined us for the last two weeks.
We are thinking of moving there when husband retires.

Can I have two best summers?
First and well-remembered was in 1953. My first vacation as an independent adult (18) with money I earned as a full-time high school graduate (steno). With a girl friend, we went from Detroit, MI to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. We had a great time. From Detroit to Mackinac was highway, but not expressway yet. We took the ferry from St. Ignace to Mackinac Island because the bridge was still being built. Detroit to Clare took us about 8 hours, a four hour trip today.
1996, my husband and I came here to Texas for about six weeks. He had taken an early retirement from Chrysler and I just took time off and didn't answer the phone. I still feel like I was Mexican in another life, and love Progresso. We spent a ton of money in Mexico, took a couple side trips, and had a great time. Did I forget to mention that our kids were grown and it was just the two of us, and we drove from MI to TX. What a wonderful trip!
There's a saying in Texas: I wasn't born here, but I got here as soon as I could.
We moved here permanently in 1998, but strangely, I am still faithful to the Detroit Red Wings and the Tigers. Go figure!

Best summer was back in 2005. It was the first summer I got to spend completely out here in WA with my fiance (now hubby). I lived with hubby and his roomies, and helped move them out of one apartment and into a house. I was struggling with my weight even then, but getting to spend all my summer with hubby instead of pining for him for months at a time was awesome. That, and we lived up in Bellingham, which is gorgeous and beautiful and I wish I could go back there already.

The summer of 1995 because during that summer I had my first child and decided to change my life (ie. stop doing drugs, drinking in excess etc.) . It took a few years but now after being drug free for about 15 years, I am making another change in my life, (losing wieght and getting healthy)
