See how many SparkPoints you can get each day and this will help you find and use many of the tools of the site. Make sure you make a SparkPage as this is how you can have people post to you to help inspire you! Please remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. It is not a diet, but a lifestyle change. Also - welcome to our team! I bet your dog is loving the walks and I'm so glad it's helping you feel better, too! And the yoga class sounds great! I walk my dog every day that it isn't raining or snowing here.. and we've had too much rain lately!! I would love yoga, I think, but i haven't joined a class yet.

Hi Helen. Welcome to the site and the team. I was where you are 6 months ago. Wanting to change and wondering how. SP has changed my life. I am the healthiest and the happiest I have ever been. I lead 2 teams now and co lead Dealing with Depression the largest team on the site. it can change your life.
I joined 2 days ago. I'm Helen. I have a history of severe depression, have a bad bout every several years and am up and down inbetween. Right now I'm ok mentally and want to stay this way. I was in hospital May-November 2011, just sat in a chair for 6 months - I'm so stiff, and get breathless just thinking of exercise. Lost 2st initially than put it all back on plus a considerable extra amount, and now I'm the heaviest I've ever been at 174 pounds, combination of inactivity and medication. I've been feeling down about my weight and physical unfitness but recently have re-started taking my dog, Shadow, for a walk every day - 30 minutes and slow but its something - and even that has made me feel more positive. It has enabled me to join a yoga class once weekly 4 weeks ago and that is making me more flexible even at this early stage. I found Sparkpeople on the internet a few days ago, and am feeling that this might be just the sort of support I need to change my life style, get fit and lose weight. I am planning to run, skip, swim and walk on my non-yoga days. I have a very busy life, working full time and caring for my 90year old father and fitting in time for my family (son 25, daughter 20, husband, all need time) and of course my dog. So now I've drawn up a timetable for myself to fit exercise in so I can't keep putting it off till later and then not do it. I'm feeling full of good intentions and am going to put my dog in the car and drive somewhere good to walk now. I hope I can give some people some support through this message board, as I already feel supported through joining Sparkpeople.
