I would read "Eat to Live" by Joel Fuhrman

his is a vegan plan were you eat:
one pound raw veggies
one pound cooked veggies
four fruits or more
one cup beans
one cup starching veggies or whole grains (says if your trying to lose weight go with the starchy veggies)
one once nuts and seeds
one tablespoon of flax seed meal

you can all the fruits and veggies you want ( not the starchy ones) and I have done this and have lost weight and I'm never hungry

Thanks, that info does help. I don't want to eat nuts, either, not while I want to lose more weight. Many raw recipes I see are high fat, also.

I did 'break down' yesterday and buy some Como bread, one of the artisan breads at the chain grocery. Still haven't had one of the bagels that I can't stop eating till their gone. But I did eat that 1 lb loaf yesterday afternoon and this morning. I really do better, bread-wise, when I stick to the sprouted grain bread. I still heat my steel cut oats after soaking, but they soften easily.

I'm busy enough with my mom being sicker, in hospital again since Wednesday... I had that on my mind when I bought that Como bread. The sprouted whole grain bread does NOT even have the same effect on my cravings, not even close. I even slacked on my freggies this week. I'm just burning out on this being so emotionally tied up and consumed. I do have raisins and a banana to take to visit, and kids Cliff bars - they're lower calorie and lower fat than the adult bars. I have on my list to do some more study on this subject, I'm just not at my most able to do that right now.

Costco does have snack bars that are raw and not baked at all. They're higher fat than the snack foods I usually eat. But really, if I'm eating my 21 Loaf bread and freggies and such, I could eat those sometimes.

I don't have a Vitamix (too expensive) I just have a regular blender, not the cheapest and it seems to work fine. I don't have a dehydrator, but I hear you can put the oven on the lowest setting with the door propped open you can get the same results.

I do about 30 to 50 % raw and I'm not planning on doing more. You just do as much or little raw as you want. I think eating raw is great and healthy but I could never do 100 % so I don't. If I can't do some raw recipes for whatever reason (don't have a
dehydrator, don't want to eat nuts, ect) then I just don't do.

I get books from the library and read info on line and then make what I want.

So I just do a little raw. Some grains I well soak over night (or longer ) instead of cooking. I soak steel cut oat over night to make oatmeal and I soak lentils overnight and put in my salads (the lentils will sprout) You need to rinse a couple of times as your soaking.

Ok that is about all I know. Hope that helps.

I have some questions. I met someone on another site who's feeling great and lost a bunch of weight on whole living and raw foods. I've found that the more I crank on freggies, the better I eat. But I have some questions. I'd love to eat more and more this way.

1. How do you eat this way w/o a Vitamix or such? I'm living in 2 places, really. Even if I had a Vitamix in 1 place, I wouldn't always have it. So, how do you eat that way low-budget?

1.a. What's the most basic, lowest budget blender/juicer that will work?
1.b. What's the most basic, lowest budget food dehydrator that will work?

2. I'm a care-giver and I'm spending a lot of time where I only have a blender, toaster and microwave. So I have limited cooking equipment and time.

3. I do best eating really low-fat. Most living and raw foods recipes I see are high fat. The raw food snack bars they have at Costco are also high fat, so I haven't ventured there, yet.

I can even do great rice in the microwave, honest. Tonight I had my steel cut oats, home-dried prunes and organic raisins, soaked all day then microwaved and topped with a little flax oil. Also, the care-givee is very smell-sensitive, so I can't steam or cook mushrooms, artichokes and many other foods.

Thanks so much for the help and counsel!
