I understand that society is cruel specially for those who are different, but different is awesome and amazing do not care about others; open yourself up and go for whatever you want to do. I learned this lesson the hard way and paid a huge price for it I would like to spare anyone who wants to listen the excess pain. We can just take one step at a time with etch day making it a better day. emoticon

I can definitely say the same thing! But what we all can remember is that throughout this journey, we will need to make changes along the way. Sometimes it will be because of injury (what I'm dealing with right now) or other life situations, or sometimes it might be by choice because we are trying to bust out of a rut.

We (society as a whole) are usually afraid of change, but let's try to embrace it instead because change isn't always a bad thing and many times it will allow us to find new and better ways of doing things! Never be afraid to mix it up!! :-)

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm plugging along on the program, keeping way too busy, and not getting nearly enough sleep. I'm so glad I decided to join the gym again; I'm definitely a social exerciser. My next thing to conquer is cooking; I'm not a planner, so this has been a huge challenge for me.

I'm glad people are still posting. My weight didn't go down for two weeks. I bought a new scale. Hey- mine started acting weird, it was fluctuating a lot! I didn't gain five pounds in five minutes, right after it said I lost a pound! I changed the batteries, but it was still acting weird. New scale should be more accurate- weighs me at what I was weighing with the old scale before it started acting weird, but it measures to .2 lbs instead of .5 lbs, so...the middle digit in my reading changed, and I'm very happy. It's a small thing but it means a lot to me. Tonight- salad with tuna fish. I also cooked up some chicken breast portions for salad. Lunch was salad with eggs. Salad salad salad! I have lost seven pounds! :)

lol at the "knock, knock" joke, but then I laugh at just about any joke, especially the corny ones. Almost back to where I was when I blew it, so that is a good thing. Usually just swim every other day, but I think I'll go again today! Love that pool!

Hanging in there. I am not doing great with exercise at all, I'm not going to lie, but I am tracking everything I ingest using my favorites, down to the very last crumb. Ready for the scale to go down. I'm about due. I feel my tastes changing and my cravings going away. It's awesome. There is a jar of Nutella in my cupboard and I don't even care. That's a new one! Had a setback on the scale, but refuse to give up. I'll just have to be better at tracking my foods, because that is where I blew it. Oh well, all is still good. My exercise is on track, and I mix it up a lot, so 3 cheers for me and I'm off to the gym.

I have been on Spark People for one month today! :) I have lost five pounds. With the exception of three days, I have tracked all of my foods this month. I am finding that I am satisfied with less food now and am not as hungry. I had some ups and downs this month, but I think next month will be even better. Thank you for all of your positive vibes! :)

I actually tracked my food (not dinner yet because I don't know what we're having) for the first time in a VERY long time. Seeing you guys dropping pounds, inches and ounces has me inspired to really, really push towards some weight loss too!

Avagrace - I feel ya - I am doing better this week than I have in a long time when it comes to calories and exercise but I must be PMSing or something because I can tell I am not in the honeymoon stage anymore. At 50 this should be coming to a close soon but not soon enough!

Each day is a chance to make new choices *hugs*

I haven't done much regular checking in, but here goes... I'm doing pretty well! Still recording my food here every day. Still learning new features, like today I found that I can track my strength training as well as my cardio (without tracking every single exercise). Working with a personal trainer. The weight is moving down--4lbs so far!--but the biggest changes are in my strength and probably long-term my body composition.

Today is a challenge: have to go to a back-to-school potluck with other teachers. I'm bringing fruit salad! I'm hoping I can still have a reasonably low-calorie lunch. Sometimes it helps that I'm allergic to dairy... the most fattening stuff would make me sick-LOL!

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful. -Buddha

Hey everyone...Just checking in. Still going strong, but a bit less of a light beam in the last few days. Social situations are when people graze and drink, drink and graze. So I brought along some good seltzer to add to wine to make spritzers, but what if you're there like 7 hrs.?!
No, did some swimming and talking too, but it's HARD! Also, when you go from one day to another on the week end and don't track..it's frustrating! And of course I have my period, so I have a feeling that weigh in day this Friday will be either same weight (praise God) or gained..ugh. You see, I've been in for a month now and this is when I usually start getting bored and the munchie monsters start moving in..So considering, I guess I'm doing okay.
I hope everyone else is doing well....Hard being past the honeymoon and into the GRUNT of it. But with SP it definitely feels less grunt like!
THANK YOU!

Work has been really stressful so I have not made as much progress as I hoped but I haven't given up - I like the idea of starting new each day instead of getting frustrated about yesterday's choices.

First time checking in & beginning of week four for me. Reading all the information & inspiration has kept me motivated. The challenge of exercising during commercials while the Olympics were on was helpful too. Been enjoying cooking healthy with Chef Meg & telling everyone I know how gr8 SP is!

The scale finally went down! I haven't really lost anything since the 29th, and I gained 2.5 pounds when I was away for the weekend, so I took that off, and *then* another pound! I didn't enter the weight gain in my tracker, because it was too depressing. So today I recorded a loss of one pound on my tracker. The tracker is a good motivator for me. THANK YOU, LADIES FOR BEING SO POSITIVE!

Tracking my Nutrition is a wonderful tool! I really like entering a new food if I can't locate it in the search box. Unusual foods that I can't locate anywhere I go to nutritiondata.self.com and type in what I'm looking for. It is usually not too difficult to find! Yeah for tracking my food intake!!!!!! emoticon

I didn't lose much the first two weeks and was having trouble tracking my food from the choices I was seeing in the menu plan. Then I chose not to have the menus, and I've been entering the food I do eat in my favorites.

So this week I've tracked my foods all week, and worked in walking everyday, and done two "real" workouts. I'm down 4 pounds, and it's feeling good. I hope I can stick with it over the weekend when Id on't have as much structure. I've also been drinking my water - and that really has been making a difference for me. I always thought I was a good water drinker, but it turns out I'd drink in the morning but not much during the day, then make up for it at night. Now I'm drinking regularly all day, and not so much at night to wake me up about 4 am to make a trip to the bathroom.

Good luck to everyone here. I do believe sticking with it makes a difference, but plateaus are so frustrating.
Cheers,

I know the feeling... I've been working out everyday for the past week and a half and eating within my calorie range and I've lost 0.2 pounds. That's so low I don't even think that counts as a loss! I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, I think it's just fat being replaced by muscle at this point... Keep with it! I'm sure some good news will show soon :)

Thank you to the people who continue to post. It is important to have support. My weight loss has been slow and not all that steady. Lost two pounds the first week, two pounds the second week. Gained two back the third week and have taken off one of them. I feel like I am treading water, and I need my scale to give me some good news soon! I have tracked all of my food this week since I got home from my weekend away, and I've stayed at the low end of my calorie range. I only fit in exercise 2x, but considering my work load that isn't so bad. The number on the scale will change soon, right? All of these salads are going to pay off, I hope!

The scale apparently appreciated my motivation if not all of my choices and was lower by a pound this week - not as good as the 3 pounds the week before but still in the right direction - a bit more motivation to keep sparking!

One of the things I had fun with this weekend was making zucchini lasagna. A coworker brought in some zucchini so cost $0, added some spaghetti sauce and layered with some mozzarella cheese and even my 12 year old daughter loved it.

Another thing I like to do this time of year is make "counter pickles." Slice cucumbers in a bowl, cover with vinegar and add some salt and let them sit for 4-8 hours. Then you can just keep adding cucumbers for the rest of the season. Optional additions are dill or garlic or cayenne pepper or onions. For me it is a salty crunchy snack much healthier than chips.

My biggest struggle with the heat and the work stress is finding motivation to move. I know I can easily take the dog for a walk, turn on the wii, find a short video on sparks or youtube, put in an exercise dvd, etc........ but my brain keeps making excuses........ guess I should get up from the computer and do something now LOL

It's been a few weeks for most of you now, and we're definitely seeing the signs of changes...both good and bad! You are all absolutely right - there are times that this journey is going to be HARD. There are times you WILL question whether you made a good decision in making a change. There are going to be plenty of times that you'll WANT to quit, or at the very least, question whether you can keep going forward. So knowing that there will be times that you feel overwhelmed with this "journey", I want to say this:

YOU are worth it!!!! You DESERVE to be healthy!!!! You CAN do it!!!!

You don't have to be perfect...thank goodness!! Because if perfection was required, I would have been kicked off of this thing a looooong time ago! What you are required to do is KEEP TRYING. Don't give up! Learn that you can have your favorites, in moderation (check out what SFCOCO is doing with pita pizzas! YAY!!). Dark chocolate is a good choice if you need a little something sweet - in moderation! Frozen yogurt. Fruit is a naturally sweet product.

As far as eating healthy can be expensive. Yes, that can be true, but doesn't necessarily have to be. For the most part, produce is pretty cheap. Celery and carrots cost close to nothing. Apples can usually be found on sale for about $1 a pound. Even when grapes are about $1.50/pound, there are multiple servings in the bunch that will cover you for days. If you cut out processed food and use natural products that you make yourself, you'll save $.

I remember back in the day, I used to make Hamburger Helper for my family a lot because it could usually be found for $1/box. But the thing to keep in mind is that it is also only 2 servings in a box! That's almost no food. If I was buying a bag of pasta I would get 6-8 servings out of it for the same $1 I spent on the crummy HH.

Since eating healthier I make a lot more foods "from scratch" and then use the leftovers for lunches and dinners by freezing them or packaging them into grab and go packages right away. So just remember that a lot of it is just how you look at it. It can be done on a shoestring budget if you are careful. :-)

Hang in there, everyone! You're doing great and are well on your way to making healthy new habits!

Back from my weekend away and back on track. It's hard to do this when you travel! I ate a Cliff Bar (250 cal.) while my family had waffles at the complimentary breakfast at the hotel. Had sliders instead of a big cheeseburger, because I figured it was better than a chicken caesar salad, but blew it by eating all the fries. Another *#$% egg white *($^$^ omlette. Got hungry on the way home and shared some chips with my kid. And then said *^*&&* it and randomly ate a sandwich at 11 o'clock, I think because I knew it would be back to business today.

Up 1.5 pounds. I didn't even have ice cream. I am PMSing. I want to kill everyone and eat everything.

Tonight I am making pita pizzas on the grill- 100 for the pita. Measuring my quarter cup of cheese. Five pepperionis= however many calories. Trying not to get discouraged.

Haven't been exercising and didn't know how to fit it in today, so I parked a few blocks away from the optomotrist and walked briskly ten minutes each way.

Had my heart checked and it is fine. I want some$%%^$## chocolate. I'll survive. I feel like I need to see some results soon in order to stay motivated, but I also feel like now is not the time to give up on myself. I am going to hang in there. RIGHT?!? LOL!

Hi Tiaralynn.

Yes, good suggestions. Use what you have. I just learned I don't have to follow the planned menu because it includes food I don't eat, and doesn't include foods I do eat, so now I'm adding the foods I do eat to my favorites, so it makes it easier for me to track what I do eat, and I don't have to buy foods I can't afford - or for health reasons, can't eat. good luck. Just do it for one day at a time, and do the best you can.

I believe changing our eating habits - or any habit for that matter - is really difficult and makes us uncomfortable initially. But as we continue to do it through the discomfort stage, it gets more comfortable and hopefully eventually becomes a new habit. emoticon

Oh, Tiaralynn, I have been there! and still go there if I blow it. Are you tracking your nutrition? Look through your cabinets and refrigerator, and start looking up the values in the search box, and see what you can combine to make a good meal. Look at your ads for weekly deals, and plan a menu that you can use without buying out the store. Try and use what you have. It helps with the budget.

I hope this helps a little bit! emoticon
