Normal people will falter on a new plan. Extraordinary people will either stick to it, or recognize they've faltered and increase their determination to return to the plan.

You are extraordinary!

Very cool when friends join! A group of my acquaintances joined when I did, and one is still active. The others just trailed off. Seems to happen a lot. Life gets in the way, or goals change. I hope to stick for good and believe I will as it is in my nature (smile).

I always shop early. I feel claustrophobic when there are crowds. We've been having some rain, too. I'm happy it's raining. The weather has been much too dry and we were having fire alerts constantly!

I tried shopping yesterday morning and gave up. The crowds were overwhelming. Then yesterday afternoon, the rain went from drizzle to downpour and I went out again. The crowds were so much smaller and I was able to get in and out of several stores pretty quickly. :D

Has a 5k planned for Sunday at the park with the beautiful Spiral Walk. If you don't know what a spiral walk is, read my blog about it. :D Walking with the SparkPhoenix Team! I love local sparking, they get me out of my house and logging more miles.

I agree with Julia! Banking some calories may help, too. Also, if you did more than your normal house cleaning, you've burned more calories this week. Then do 10 more minutes here and there and you'll have burned enough calories to have your peach cobbler or pie.

STEELER71, make yourself a deal: you're allowed to have a small piece of one pie, or even smaller slivers of multiple pies as long as they add up to one full piece.

Get up early and go for a walk, run, or bike ride -- whatever is your fave cardio so that you rev up you metabolism.

I hope I can fight temptation on Thanksgiving. I worked so hard to reach my goal and I don't want to mess up now. I know I can control myself with the meal, it's the desserts [which I made by the way] that I'm worried about. Not to brag, but I'm a super pie baker and I make a mean Peach cobbler all of which will be there for all the world to see. Wish me luck.

Congratulations. You have lost so much weight. I can totally related to the family members shoving food at me. My husband will WAKE ME UP to feed me junk food he just picked up like a chocolate milk shake. Of course, he works a very physical job so he cannot related to my challenges. I will just keep my cool and re-educate him when I am feeling strong. Right now, I will take a bite, sip or whatever -- which isn't gonna get me to goal any time soon :(

Congratulations again! Well done. Be blessed!

I agree with you, I'm hoping that once I get down to the weight I want to maintain that I won't have to log every bite. I'm learning all these good habits, hopefully they'll stick with me!

Linda, I was doing great at not tracking - maintaining weight exactly - until I went out of town to the Renaissance Faire. I gained 3 lbs in those 5 days (sigh). I've taken 2 back off since and am being very careful though still not tracking. My theory is that we should be able to (hopefully) reach a point where we understand healthy choices well enough not to have to log every single bite. I will track again if the weight creeps back on, believe it!

Congratulations to you Steeler71! I've still got 71 pounds (I had to add a pound when I got a new scale :() to go before maintenance.

Julia, how are you doing with not tracking. Is that working for you? Some people say they do fine without tracking and some continue to track. I have noticed that many people gain 5-10 pounds back and then stay there. Maybe they just can't maintain the lower weight because their bodies are more efficient at the higher weight. I know my goal weight is just an arbitrary number.

I highly recommend a pressure cooker to anyone who wants to eat beans on a regular basis. I can make the equivalent of 10 cans of beans for about the cost of 1 can at the store.

Make sure to get stainless steel. The cheap ones are aluminum. I found a nice stainless one at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I love my pressure cooker. Decided at 6pm that I wanted kidney beans for dinner. Since I keep a variety of dried beans on hand, can do. Before 7pm, I was dishing up my lovely soft kidney beans, topped over 1.5 cups chopped: green onions, cilantro, orange bell pepper, mild yellow hot pepper

Two days ago I reached my goal. It certainly was a struggle. Those of you who know me and my love for football and my passion for potato chips must see how hard it was for me to keep on the straight and narrow. I have to tell you, not eating my chips while watching football was sooo very hard, but I did it up until a few weeks ago when my Steelers lost to the Titans. I took a handful of chips and guess what? I didn't even enjoy them and I had a gain the next day. No more chips for me. I've had to overcome family members shoving food in my facesaying "Oh, a little bit won't hurt you.You have to eat". Friends coming to the house with cookies and cakes etc. and not eating any of it. Let me tell you my friends, IT WAS WORTH IT. To all you newbies, if I can do it so can you. By the way, I'm 73 yrs. old.

The weather has been spectacular for the last week or so. But, boy when the night time temperatures go under 65 degrees it gets cold in the house! I don't want to get out of bed when the house is 65 degrees. Anything under 73 degrees seems cold to me now. I know I'll get used to it and then anything over 72 degrees will be too hot! We finally seem to be having fall here. Even after five years in Charlotte, I'm still not used to it. My favorite fall in New Jersey was when fall happened in a two week period. Well, and I had just gotten my sunglasses re-tinted and they made everything much more colorful!

I live in Cincinnati Ohio and so far the most outdoors I've been here was going to small parks. My friends recommended Red River Gorge for hiking, but I don't think there are any mountains nearby.

Yesterday, I met up with a SparkFriend, HIKERBECKY, and a couple of her friends to hike at the largest municipal park in the USA: South Mountain Park, in Phoenix. We had planned to drive up to the top and do a relatively easy hike called Fat Man's Pass (so named as you have to be greyhound-thin to fit through it, otherwise you have to pass around).

The roads in the park were closed for "Silent Sunday," with only the main parking lot at the base of the mountain open. Not to be dissuaded, we decided to hike Holbert Trail instead, and hiked for two hours on a much harder hike instead of the 90-minute hike we had planned.

I feel fit and strong! It was beautiful, cool, and fun. Pictures to follow as soon as I can find the gadget that hooks my camera to my computer (I just moved).

Thanks for the welcome Susan.

The only mountain I've ever went to was Jack Frost in Pennsylvania, and I want to see more mountains. I also miss the amount of snow in Upstate New York. Trying to run in four feet of snow is fun.

The Smoky Mountains are gorgeous. They're so lush! When my daughters were senior & cadette girl scouts, we went up there for a week with their troop (from Florida, where we lived then). Some of us stayed in base camp and the girls got to spend two nights hiking on the AT.

North Carolina's mountains have weather more like northern New Jersey where I grew up. It only takes about 2 hours to get there, too. Our mountains aren't as high, although North Carolina's mountains are the highest in the Appalachians, ranging from 2000 to nearly 7000 ft.

My sister suffered altitude sickness when she was in Peru, I wonder if I would have a problem with that, too. She went to Machu Picchu (she's the world traveler of the family). It's about 8,000 ft above sea level.

One thing I love about living in the Arizona desert (Phoenix), is that in winter, I can drive 1-2 hours to play in the snow all day, then drive back home to my nice (relatively) warmer desert climate. Some people don't realize that Arizona actually has mountains in the 10,000 ft altitude range, three of them even offer skiing!

I miss snow. We didn't get any snow last year.
emoticon
We had a really mild winter. I don't think the temperature was under freezing in the daytime even once, I like seeing snow. We usually get some here. It's generally gone by mid-morning. We can enjoy it without being unduly inconvenienced.

Christmas carols? Oh my it is WAY to early for that. I don't even want to think about that yet. The problem with this part of the year is that it rushes by so fast. It seems like it gets colder then Halloween, the next day is Thanksgiving and 2 days later is Christmas and then 3 days later is the New Year! lol

That sounds like fun! When I worked at the bank, I went to an event in Spokane and was in the bank's box. That was awesome not to have to fight the crowds for the restroom! lol

Yeah the food can be tough but I have faith that you will make good choices. Eat something before you go so you aren't famished while at the game. emoticon

Diamondbacks baseball game tonight! I almost never go to sports events; however, my company buys a box once a year and has a party at the game. I'm excited to go as it is a lot of fun to see the game in a private box.

I'll have to pay close attention to what I eat tonight, though! There will be free food & drinks galore. Uh oh.

Yah, it was pretty cool to see the statistic on my fitness tracker, showing that I had burned 3514/720 calories for the week. On Sunday. The first day of the week!

I'm in Arizona. :D

Just moved, easiest move ever. Moved directly next door to my old house, to gain another bedroom, bathroom, +400 square feet and still paying the same rent.

Burned something like 3500 calories just moving boxes & furniture. Yahoo!

Just met a Spark Friend in person for the first time! We met up at a local mall at 6:30 AM to walk our 5k indoors. Nice! I think this may become a regular Phoenix meet-up.

I you all are not on your local Spark Teams, I highly recommend it to find out events and free classes that are in your neck of the woods *and* to find local exercise buddies.

I can't believe I did this! I was just finishing my fresh peach and almond milk smoothie and was throwing away the empty almond milk container when I realized that it was sweetened almond milk. That's 90 calories a cup instead of 35 for the unsweetened almond milk. It made me feel ill. How frustrating!

I refuse to beat myself up. Nor am I going to go back and change the nutrition tracker. I have no idea how far to go back and it would just be punishment. I think it means I went over my calorie limit for one day. The thing is--it wasn't some wild binge or uncontrolled eating. I didn't "undo" anything. I'm annoyed that I didn't catch it. I know better. With all my food allergies I have learned that I am solely responsible for what goes into my mouth. Not my husband, my friends, or a waiter. I know to always read food labels; to always check the packaging, and to use my common sense.

So True Shells I hardly ever count walking tyson except for if he really tired me out he isn't a good walker on a lead he drags me and I have to run even if I don't want to run with him so I don't lose him in the park.

There are those who even count house cleaning but in my eyes that wasn't helping us before SP so why count it?

Off for the next 2 days lots of errand to be done.

Michigangrl- I agree with Linda, though I know there are some jobs that do get your heart rate up. Not sure which you have. I think tracking it as steps instead of cardio is a great idea. Personally, I don't track anything that's part of my normal day:, playing with my nieces and nephews, walking down to the corner store or walking my dog. I only count walking my dog if I lace up my sneakers and run or power walk. I don't count the three leisurely walks around a few blocks for him to do his business.

My logic is that if I was doing it before, it isn't affecting my weight loss. So while I *could* track it and rack up some sparkpoints, I'd probably just be cheating myself in the end.

Morning I'm getting ready for work then hitting the gym

Michigangrl are you wearing a pedometer ? Under fitness tracker there is a section for steps then you can just add the miles without minutes. Unless its getting your heart up its not cardio strolling at the mall is not the same thing as going on a 3 mile walk non stop So it doesn't count for calories burned. It is recommended that we get at least 10,000 steps a day in.

Hi guys-

Just stopping by to say hi. I've got a busy week ahead of me and I was in a car accident over the weekend, so now I have all that stuff to deal with between the insurance company and getting my car fixed. Such a pain.

My weigh in this AM did not go well. I'm up in weight. Trying not to focus to much on it and assuming it's mostly water retention from bad day of eating on Sat and a not so good dinner last night.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Shells....I also was very hungry, so instead of my usual lunch, I splurged on mozzarella sticks and an orange...BUT drank water and am still within my calories.

For a great snack, low in calories, I would have a big plate of spinach, with a bunch of baby carrots, and fat free raspberry vinaigrette, very low cal, but good for you and lots of crunch, makes you feel "fuller" than you are... :)

Sometimes it's just a hungry day..... best wishes to you!

Shells, Almonds always work for me, but they're hard to work into the day because they're high in fat. I'm told that anything with protein and fiber is really good. I guess that excludes pizza! Sorry, it must be lunchtime. I'm hungry, too.

Michigangirl and Katie - I admire you for doing this with kids! I can't even imagine. It's definitely easier to focus on losing weight when you only have to worry about yourself. I'm not sure how I'd do if I couldn't completely banish junk food from the house.

In other news, I'm STARVING today. I've tried to have some healthy snacks and drink water but I'm still hungry. Ugh. Anyone with any magic suggestions?

Michigan girl, I totally feel you on the being so busy and having no "me" time. Last night my 14 year old watched the baby while I did Zumba and other youtube exercise videos for 20 minutes straight, then he did the weight training part of my workout with me! So like you, I have to squeeze in whatever I can! :) Good luck!!!

I have 17 days til the beach, can I do anything spectacular to make my body beach ready in 17 days???? any suggestions welcome. (I already am eating my healthy food diet, about 1300-1500 calories a day)....really just need to step up my workout game!!! help!!!

Hi All. I haven't been real active on here but I am staying active and eating fairly sensible. Just been busy. Yesterday was my kids last day of school. My youngest is not in school yet. It has been busy with so many activities going on. Hard to find "me" time. I hope once things settle down I can better focus on more time to work on myself. I did get a lot of my garden planted. Just picked up 16 pepper plants too. Still have a ways to go. It is a big garden! I enjoy it and it is exercise :) I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the warmer weather.

Thanks Linda! Quick question: Is there a way in Sparkpeople to save member blog posts? Sometimes I come across one that I want to re-read later. I've been saving them in my browser bookmarks but I was wondering if there was a better way.

Hi guys!

I'm back from my weekend trip. I managed to survive the weekend with minimal damage. I only went over calorie range one day and I got a 45 minute run/walk in on Sat. morning.

How was everyone's weekend?

Happy Sunday well the pass 2 days flew on by for me I was back at work and since it was the beginning of the month we were slammed plus high school graduations so people were food shopping. Boy were my feet killing me after 10 days off they were not use to having ot stand all day 8 hour shifts tomorrow I only work 6 1/2 hours.

Truth be told I'm glad to be back at work vacation really drained me.

Well I know I didn't win the contest at work. A 180 lb guy lost 15 pounds. Grrrr! I am not sure about the ladies, since only one guy was doing it. Not fair :p but I know guys have it easier. My hubby can drop weight like nothing. I have a three day weekend emoticon I am happy for that! Hope everyone has a great one!
