Good evening team. I'm coming asking for your prayers and good thoughts. What we thought has been everything from a kidney infection, appendicitis, ruptured ovarian cyst, and all pretty much just continuing to bother me is now showing to be a 4x6cm multilobulated partially cystic/partially solid mass in my abdomen resting between my ovary (right) and appendix...and that the only way to tell what it really is will be surgery to remove it. Due to my family history of reproductive cancers and the fact that it has been almost a month since the pain started and it is still here and it is partially solid there is some concern that while it could be a benign mass that is also could be cancer of some sort. My specialist gynecologist is working with a general surgeon and going to have me get some basic tumor marker testing done. I am asking for prayers for strength and perseverance. Especially since we are still waiting to hear what we are going to have to do with Sophia's venous malformation. Thanks all. God bless.

GAH it's hot here! Just got back from northern Wisconsin, and when we left, a cold front had blown in and it was a beautiful 51 degrees at 7am. I miss that already!!

Thank you so much MaryJane, I hope you are doing well also! I'll be in and out in no time at all as I only need an antibiotic Rx for a pesky bladder infection. Unreal how it could happen what with drowning myself with over 8 cups of water daily...oh well...always something!

By mid to late September you will see a huge upsurge in activity. It's just the way it always goes this time of year. I really dislike the inactivity, but it is what it is. People think that because the page says we have 17,000 members that we REALLY do have 17000 ACTIVE members. Our active membership is closer to less than 1000 with only about 10-20% of those members posting on a semi-regular basis throughout the year. The reason for this is because all through the year, especially right about January 1st when all those New Year's resolutions happen, we get swamped with new members. About 10% of those members stick for a month and about 4 percent for 3 months and from there about 2% become long term (more than 6 month) members.
The member numbers don't show who drops out unless they delete their spark account, which just about NO ONE does...which means it looks like we have 10s of 1000s of members! Right now we have about 200 members actively tracking either fitness or food or both. About 50 members are posting on threads, blogs, etc. The rest are lurking on the pages, just king of checking in but not really participating. Like I said, it is what it is but it WILL pick up and get very active throughout the year. Spring time is a hot time around here as well.

Got myself all into the August fitness challenge. I will probably report in on Mondays because that is when I weigh in so it will remind me. I do the same exercises everyday right now, just started a month ago, have a seriously bad back ( herniated discs) and I will have to build up slowly as I really packed on the weight the year after I was no longer able to work. I am still hoping that a fitness buddy will show up that lives close enough to me that we could work out together sometimes...thinking I may have to put an ad in the paper locally..."desperately seeking Sweaty friend". I'm kidding, but I am getting pretty desperate as far as being lonely. Oh well, just wanted to say, "Good luck everyone who signed on for the August challenge"!!!

DCJ, I have 3 kids of my own (9, 7 &4) plus 4 daycare babies (3, 2, 2 &11 mos). They keep me super busy but the summer is easier because most are part time now. What makes it hard is my hubby has been away at army training since April and won't be back til mid September. I'll find my groove again soon.
MRSSUZ, sorry you are having computer issues. That can be frustrating. Glad to hear you are pushing through regardless of health issues. Dont push too hard but keep up that determination!

Hey there SA. I haven't been on at all this week because my computer has been acting crazy. I really wish I could get an iPad or something like that so I could retire this little nasty old laptop. I cannot afford one and no one is being nice and just giving me one so I'm stuck with this overheating piece of equipment.

I've had an okay week for exercise but right now I'm dealing with a nasty kidney infection so I'm having to take it a little slower suddenly. I don't know if we will be able to make it tonight because of some family stuff but if we can we will be there. We love to dance. :)

Jennifer, I hear you. This week it has been very hard to dig up motivation. I'm really looking forward to both the 6 miles we are walking in the morning as well as the Spark Rally in the evening...at least I know I will get in a lot of healthy fitness minutes then!

Not much going on here in NE. I run my own daycare so I get on as much as I can when (if) the kids nap. The heat or missing my hubby or TOM or some combo of the three seem to have gotten to me. I normally only have 1 off day from exercise but I haven't done a thing since Tuesday. I gotta find that mojo again!

Sadly, we will be on vacation for the exact two weeks of the Olympics. :( Hopefully I'll get to see some of the swimming, which is my favorite part!! And secondly the gymnastics and diving.

ME and MY HUBBY TOO!!! We devour the olympics...Winter, Summer, Special...We love Boxing, Swimming, Diving, Gymnastics, Floor Exercise, etc...etc...we pretty much LOVE it all, except the soccer games can run a little long, but we check in on them too and root for the home team, even if we get knocked out of some event we will still pick a second favorite country to root for...when we can not catch all the events we TVO some, record some and watch as much as we can...it will actually motivate me to exercise more...so bring it!!!

I've got a topic! I'm crazy about the Olympics, always have been. I look forward to them like some people do the super bowl games. Wondering who is going to watch them and what sports do you favor? I love almost all of them. I adore the swimming, gymnastics, track and field, and weight lifting events above all others. How about you? Are you going to be glued to the tube for a lot of the Olympics?

I'm thinking I might have to force myself to work out while I watch or I'm going to be leaving my butt print on the couch from sitting there so long!

Wow Thank you MaryJane, I don't know whether to be proud of my (sticky) idea or embarrassed. Either way I hope that it is popular, I have a very poor memory so I tend to look for a thread like this that includes everything, as I can not remember which thread I post what on when I jump around thread to thread. I was just talking to one of my spark friends about memory, she said she forgot some things at home today she had intended to take with her to work. I told her that I can walk from one room to the next and forget what I went in there for.
So hopefully she and I are not the only ones whom could benefit from this thread. At any rate, THANK YOU again MaryJane, for being so considerate on my behalf. Have a great day...Peace and Hugs...djc... emoticon

Let's get some team chatter going on this Marvelous Monday Mid-Morning!

I was thinking this morning about how so many people really have a dislike for Mondays. I'm in the opposite camp, perhaps because I don't work outside the home anymore. Mondays always feel like a fresh start to me. My husband is off to work, I usually don't have my grandson on Mondays because it is his mom's usual day off. I try to use it as a renewal time for ME. Today, though...I'm feeling sluggish and at the same time anxious because while I don't feel like running personal errands or doing a few things I normally don't have time for I'm also feeling like the clock is ticking too fast on my "day off". Not a contented feeling at all. Must do SOMETHING to relax and center myself so I don't spoil MY day! Hope everyone is having a very pleasant Monday!

Way to go Amanda. I love sour cream and onion chips (any style or brand). I am proud of you for putting them away.

I just need to get off my bootie and start back to my strength training!

Self control, thy name is Amanda...LOL! Seriously, I do realize what a big deal that is. Good for you! I still can't keep bbq chips and jalepeno pimento cheese spread in the house together or I go on a binge that leaves me both sick and a little disgusted with myself. Separately I don't even like them much at all, but together...kapowee on my will power and of course nothing goes better with that diabolical duo than an ice cold glass of arsenic aka coca cola. Nope, those guys aren't allowed to be together around me until I have mastered that self control thingy. Good job, Amanda!

You guys! I did something absolutely amazing yesterday and I wanted to share. I'm not really a binge eater, but I do have a few binge triggers, foods that I will just keep eating until it's gone. One of those are rippled sour cream and onion potato chips. I rarely buy them, but when I get a super strong craving for them and just need to buy them, I always buy in a single-serving package because I will eat the entire giant bag if I get a giant bag. Yesterday, after swimming for 45 minutes, I really wanted those chips. It had been months since I had them, so I got a single serving package. I made myself some healthy chicken salad with celery and cut up a nectarine to have with them as a big mid-afternoon snack. I ate the salad and nectarine, AND ONLY HALF THE BAG OF CHIPS!! For the first time in over a decade, I managed to put the other half in the pantry and not return to it all day! Now, I'll probably eat the rest today, but still, I put a binge trigger food away and didn't eat any more of it! Woohoo! :)

Also, in other great news, one of my book club members told me yesterday that I was looking skinny. :D

Chair dancing is good for the soul...even though you wish you were doing it standing up. I'm glad you are finding ways to get some fitness in, Amanda. This time will pass and while it can't be soon enough for you, it will give you the time you need to heal and renew. I'm so sorry you are going through this. You can also do a lot of upper body strength training during this time. Ab exercises as well via seated chair crunches which are not easy to do at all from what I've heard!

Here's an example being done by a guy in a wheelchair using a resistance band: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AramYzXMqGI

Kind of a silly one for you: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCsUntiO1Ck

Same girl, but this is a 7 minute upper body cardio work out that I have done before:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtrciwU4Fbo

Search for seated cardio workouts. There are a lot out there!

emoticon Amanda,

You are so amazing - I hope you know how much you inspire me to keep going - no matter what!

You'll get there. Just so lots of punches (imagine punching your doctors, that might help - lol) and get in cardio where and however you can. You know this stuff and I have every confidence in you. You will be up and running before you know it!

Amanda good luck! My friend who is wheelchair bound does this with her kiddos every day (she homeschools them). She has been bedbound and wheelchair bound for a number of years now and has had to find ways to keep from going nuts and this is one that has helped her out.

Well, it's time for me to make the best of a raw deal. I've practically been put on bed rest now. I cant' even go walking at the grocery store, or do any chores that involve standing up (like vaccuuming), or chores that involve kneeling (like scrubbing the bathroom), or drive long distances (because it's my right leg that's hurt). Fun, huh? So, I've decided for now to stop focusing on weight loss. I'll continue to eat healthy, because that's what I need to do to keep depression and sluggishness at bay, but I'm stepping away from counting calories because that tends to make me obsessed with the scale, which is not what I need right now. I also need to find a way to be a little active every day, without hurting my leg at all. This isnt' really exercise so much as not being sedentary, because that will also cause depression! This morning, I put music on for my kids and let them dance, and I spent 45 minutes sitting in my office chair dancing along with them with my upper body only. It looks completely stupid, and I know I'm not burning a bajillion calories or anything, but it at least keeps the blood flowing, and that's all that matters right now. I just hope that in two months, I can keep this up and be healed enough to get back into some walking first, and then later into other exercises!

I feel like all I'm doing is complaining lately, but I've hit another major roadblock. My stress fracture can no longer tolerate ANY exercise, not even swimming, and my father-in-law (who is a doctor) says I need to go to an orthopedic doctor to see if it needs to be booted or casted or something else. In the meantime, I can't do any exercise on this leg at all, and even my upper body ST has to be done sitting down because I might put too much pressure on my leg and cause further injury. I have no idea how long it will take to heal, and I'm worried about some of the things I want to this winter, from the Dirty Girl run in December to the half-sparkathon to the color run in February. :( I'm sorry for complaining so much, this is just so frustrating for me! I'm going to be a good girl and quit exercising for the rest of July/Aug, and see a doctor, and hopefully by September I'll be able to start really moving again. :/

Kimmy, congrats on not gaining during vacation. That is a BIG win! Sorry the meniere's is flaring. I know you will get that under control soon. Feel better!

Barb: LOL...you walk faster than anyone else on Team Stamina. Maybe you need to slow down a little! I always need a day or two recovery. It's not abuse, it's good use! Have a safe and fun trip to NYC...will see you when you get back!

I was on vacation all week at the Coast and ate what I wanted basically. I did walk for an hour 4 days I was there as well as the other walking I did just going to different places!
AND I did not gain one pound! I was so happy! I could not believe it!

I told my hubby I was going to weigh in this morning so I would know where I stood weight wise. He asked me are you sure, you will just be disappointed. I told him I need to know....and 0 gain! Yahoo!

My eating did however, effect my Meniere's Disease I am way dizzy from too much sodium!! But happy I did not gain!! yahoo!

I need to get this done for me and only I can do it!

It takes me two days to recover from the 6.15 mile walk MJ has us going on!!! Is that good for me or is it body abuse!!??!!??

What do you think? Will I ever get used to it??

I will see all the walkers in 2 weeks as I am off to NYC! Of course I will be walking everywhere!

Today is my weigh in day and I'm down another 2 pounds, putting me in the 260 range at 269.1.

Friday is a tough day, all you want do is be home, and then from there veg out. I've fought it though. I did a walk/run interval for 32 min. and walked around my job here Caremark on my break. Got some more exercise planned later tonight too. So it's going pretty good.

Hey good idea Amanda. I am hoping and praying that I can get over this shoulder/neck injury from yesterday. I don't really have a clue what I did. I was the cantor at church and as soon as I was done singing I went and sat down next to my mom, turned to tell her something and suddenly I couldn't move my head. *sigh* I'm still having problems with it. I had a ton of exercise things planned for this week and now I can barely move my arm or my head. Ridiculous!

Amanda...I wish I could bottle the energy my kids have, my older daughter especially. She's a senior this year and is a cheerleader & runs cross country and track. She'll start her summer running for CC this month. I told her I may start joining her even though I know that she'll leave me behind in a heartbeat. My younger daughter starts 7th grade this year. She wants to try everything...volleyball, basketball, and track. I told her to go for it.

Other than that, there isn't much going on. Just trying to stay on track. I have 10lbs to lose for my first goal. I'm hoping to reach it by the end of August, the latest October (my birthday). My second goal is another 16lbs after that. First things first though...

I haven't looked at you in it seems like 30 lbs or so! You already looked amazing! Wow! You are doing great! Can't wait to see the new you!

Really, if my knee hurts and I ride my bike, it stops hurting! It probably just needs some flexing and strengthening of different muscles. So glad the swimming helped you!

Well after eating pasta and more pasta and pizza all over Italy all month, I am back on track! What saved me in Italy from too much gain was the millions of stairs everywhere! AND now I am hoping to stay on track on my NYC trip for one week only. I walk everywhere in NY so hopefully that will help!

I am feeling really good this week. I got a gym membership this Saturday because I really need pool access. Even the elliptical was hurting my stress fracture. I swam for 45 minutes Sunday and 45 minutes today, and while I'm drained and my body feels like I've worked every single muscle on me (including those in my nose, which have to push air out when the water is trying to come in, lol), my leg isn't hurting at all! The aching in the night has stopped. Yay! I'm having to get up an hour earlier than normal just to get to the pool before Jason needs to go to work, but I'm willing to do that! I hope this can keep the scale moving right now while I'm injured!

I also wanted to share a little proud moment - my oldest son (11, going into 6th grade) is currently running laps around our neighborhood. He can't get into track until 7th, but he wants to go out and run every morning just to practice. I'm so proud of him!

I was scrolling through the topics and didn't seem a team chat anywhere, so I thought I'd start one for all the little miscellaneous things we might want to talk about. :) Maybe it'll help as our team enters the late summer blahs and everything slows down a bit.
