I will be leaving latter than planned as the ticket price goes up the closer you buy it to your leave. I did my three fasts this week and plan to fast until dinner tomorrow and Monday as it is a Holiday. I can not skip dinner on a holiday so far. Maybe that will come in the future.

Good plan. I eat what I want on the days I eat, but three fasting days a week works for me. I will be leaving San Antonio on the 30th of May. So I will be leaving the team after that.

Kathy, you keep that enthusiasm going by keeping your warrior woman mentality. The enemy is your doubts, your fears, and your own weakness - which your strength is stronger than. Besides, you have to prove to your hubby that you have what it takes to keep this up! That's good motivation right there!

I was privileged to get to see what Amanda is talking about when she showed me her BodyMedia Fit in early December...most intriguing! For now, I am not investing any more money into fitness gear as we have a wedding coming up in April and money IS definitely an object in this case. Perhaps after all is said and done I will ask for one for my birthday in May...like I said, it was most intriguing. My newest fitness gear is the stability wheels Charles got me for my bicycle so that I can ride without fear of falling and further injury to my back. It was supposed to go to our bike shop for installation last week, but those silly guys closed their shop from Christmas to New Years. I guess they needed a break and time to gear up for everyone wanting to get "back in the saddle" after the holidays. Charles is dropping it off with them this weekend, so I should be on the road by next week...yay!

Okay this thread has been quiet forever! So I'm just going to start in with random chat and hopefully it'll pick up, haha!

To start, I want to say I adore my BodyMedia Fit! For people having trouble losing, I think this device is definitely worth investing in! It gives you a more accurate idea of what you're burning and how much you need to eat. I'm learning all sorts of things about the way I burn calories! Like for instance, I discovered that I burn more watching TV, sitting at the computer, or sleeping than I do driving. Weird! I also burn a lot more jogging lightly around my living room or walking around the block than I do on my elliptical - good to know!

Hello team! This thread (and a lot of the threads) around here are very quiet. Let's get some chatter going! What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Christmas? Do you have a recipe or hint to share on the Healthy Holiday thread? Have you thought about joining in on the 50 Ways to Leave your Flubber challenge? It's self-motivating and easy to follow. Just see how many tasks you can accomplish...amaze yourself!

Just a little teaser here...your leaders are planning two spark get togethers...one just around the corner and another in December. Stay tuned!

Hey there all. Just stopping by to say hi to all of you. I am waiting to hear when I can officially start exercising again. I haven't really 'stopped' but I've got to get the go ahead in order to really start again. I miss my bike, my long walks with Sophia, running around with my family, and just overall feeling human and healthy. I'll keep you posted. :)

I count from the time I start until I catch my breath at the end and my heart rate slows, including breaks in between.

I have a question yall. When Im calculating the minutes I do a cardio. Do I count the whole time even the time I stopped to catch my breath? Or do I only count the actual time Im biking or walking?

Kathy, post your need in the meet up thread about the dinner. Mention what area you live in and perhaps someone can come to your aid. I'm sorry, but I already have a full car with my husband, dad, and grandson.

MJ and Amanda

Thanks for all your help with the ham and beans recipe i made. After posting I looked at recipies other members made and logged. I found one that I thought would work so I just made the ham and beans and measured the amount the member said was one serving. The only issue i can see is being precise with the serving of ham that was in my portion I ate.

My DH and I would like to attend the Meet Up but we do not have a car and the bus is too inconvenient. If someone would be able to pick us up and bring us home we would like to attend.

When we make our own recipes, we just add up all the ingredients and divide by the number of servings. Much the same way MJ does with the Spark recipes, except i'm too lazy to enter all the info by hand, haha! Then we keep it all in a spreadsheet, and manually enter the calories into the nutrition tracker.

When I make a home made recipe I go to spark recipes and enter it as my own. I add in each ingredient, how much I am using, and then approximate as close as possible to how many servings Are in the pot. When you name it and save it you will have it to refer to each time. It will give you all the calories and nutrients this way. If your recipe is unique, you have the option to share it on the recipe site!

Perfect solution for you, Kathy! I was having problems with blisters and SFlores216 told me about Body Glide. Runners use it for chafing between the legs and bicyclists on their backsides as well. It works great on my feet at preventing blisters. I know you can buy it online, at Soler Sports and at Academy. Someone else said Target, Walgreens and maybe CVS had it. It looks like a stick of men's deodorant and it is an anti-chafing product. You really don't even feel it on your skin and it works GREAT! Here's an online link so you can read about it:

I had the best workout this morning guys! One of the things this new book told me about was fooling your body - you do 20 mins of interval training, then flat-out stop all exercise for 5 full minutes. Your body thinks you're done, so it floods your body with all the things it needs to heal (the book is more technical, of course). Then you get up and do 15 more minutes of regular low-to-medium intensity endurance work, steady, no intervals, and you end up burning a whole lot more fat that way. I started with a 20 min walk to warm up, then alternated a minute of fast running (average 6mph) with two minutes of recovery walking for 20 minutes. I can tell you, that last 15 mins of walking I did after resting for 5 minutes was insanely hard! Much harder than if I'd just walked to recover. I hope it was worth it! I was only going like 2.5 mph on the last 15 min walk and my heart rate was still in the 140s. Now, just standing up makes my heartrate go high - I hope this means I keep burning calories for a long time today!! :D

Also...when is it going to get cool!! This morning was so hot working out...

Kathy, I hesitate to offer advice here because what is just minor soreness to some could actually be an injury to others. It could be from holding your arms in an unfamiliar position. I would try some gentle flexing and stretching (very gentle as you don't want to stretch a cold muscle!) and a lot of hydration first, and then and only then if it was just a little soreness I would do light strength training. If it hurts to do so, stop!

Personally, I like the idea of changing it up a little bit. I used to be a leader on one of my other teams, and every month the challenge changed. They tried to alternate - one month focusing on nutrition, the next on fitness, then back to nutrition, etc - which helped to eliminate boredom. Another team I'm part of tries to earn points every week, with a new challenge and bonus challenge each week. Something like that might be fun, too. The points add up over time. Or maybe we could make a ST challenge, like you see around sometimes - 500 squats, 200 pushups, etc, that sort of thing, spread throughout the whole months, modified if you need it, etc.

You have my prayers and best hopes, Suzan!

Team, I would like some input from you. Our August challenge is wrapping up in 10 days. Our 1000 monthly minute challenge each month this summer was wildly successful and really helped move San Antonio up on the leaderboard several notches. August and September are generally slow months...especially RIGHT NOW. I'm looking to create a challenge that will inspire and get people motivated. Any thoughts or ideas? Do you think we should just continue on with the 1000 monthly minutes challenge because of its popularity? Sound off!
