I have two woo hoos!

David caught me about to snag a kitkat bar out of the candy bowl (actually, it would have been my second) and he scolded me. Nice to have a candy monitor in the house!

Joseph, who I consider my 23 year-old "adopted" son since his mom died suddenly 6 years ago, was in a horrible car accident on Friday. He was well enough to come to lunch here at the house today. Made me feel good to "mother' him a little and I think he needed that "mothering" to be honest. He held onto me for a few extra long moments when he hugged me goodbye. Just love that boy so much and so grateful he will heal and be okay!

Anyone have a Woohoo to share today? My only one is small - got named Done Girl of the Day today, which is doing its best to counter-balance my oldest son being home with a stomach virus on Halloween, boo! :(

My woohoo today is that my running keeps getting better. Today I ran a medium-paced mile and still came in under 11 minutes. Crazy!

I got my ribs unstuck by my chiropractor today, and really needed that! I haven't been able to twist backwards for three weeks now! Very happy girl again. Woohoo! Also - my son turns 12 tomorrow. :)

My woohoo moment is that I was productive today! I actually got some good sleep last night so I woke at a decent time, made myself a healthy breakfast, then cleaned the kitchen, folded laundry, and cleaned/put up our air mattress and cooler from vacation. I got in some upper body ST and plan on getting in some cardio in a few minutes!

My woo hoo is that I woke up at 5:00 a.m. this morning (not planned) and since I was wide awake I went to the gym. Very proud of myself for that! Back on track for Dirty Girl Mud Run and Half Sparkathon training. emoticon

My woohoo moment is that I walked 1.5 miles while pushing a 30 lb. toddler in a stroller. It makes it all the better that today was only the 2nd time in a year I've worked out at all. (The first was Monday) So today I'm feeling pretty proud of myself!

My woo hoo moment for today is that I'm so sore from yesterday's workout! It was a metabolic workout that I'd been wanting to try, but had been putting it off. I'm so proud for completing it and pushing through those moments of wanting to quit.

Another woo hoo moment is that I'm winning the battle against soda! I'm only allowing myself a soda once a week and I've been so tempted to "cheat", but I've kept strong and said NO!

Yay MJ!!

I have another WooHoo guys! Sorry to have so many today, but I guess I haven't really had a good one in weeks so I'm making up for it today! :D

Therapy is really working for me. I went for my first run today since the 6th (pre-therapy). On the 6th, I just ran a mile since it was my first mile back. I pushed myself hard, my heart rate way too high, because I knew I was only doing a mile (not a 5K) and wanted to see how fast I could go. I was rewarded with an 11:55-min finish, but by those last two minutes, I was dying. I couldn't speed up at the end, and I could not have taken a step more. Today, after three therapy visits, I ran the same route, starting off leisurely and trying to keep my heart rate lower. I went faster on downhill stretches and slower on uphill stretches. I figured I was keeping a 13:30 or 14-min pace. When I was almost to the end, I realized I was under 12 minutes. I sprinted the last 15 seconds to end at 12:00 exactly. It may be 5 seconds slower than last time, but this time I could have kept the pace up for a whole 5K, my heart rate stayed lower, and i had enough energy to give it my all at the end. I wasn't terribly out of breath when I stopped either, and the last 1/3rd mile of walking was plenty to cool me down (had to walk like 1.5 miles to cool down last time!). So WOW! Woohoo!! I am so thankful for Airrosti and I can't wait to try my legs on a flatter course!

I already replied to your blog but forgot to mention that your clothes are really cute. Yay for such great finds!

My woo hoo is that the spinal injections were done yesterday. No improvement yet, and I have a headache that won't quit like I did the last time, but I'm not too worried because it took 4 days last time to feel the improvement. So Woo Hoo for modern medicine and Woo Hoo for relief being on the horizon!

WOOOOHOOOO!!! I have a HUGE WooHoo this morning! It's in two parts. First, my detox is working and I'm back to 166 lbs on the dot this morning. Since over the weekend I had actually seen as high as 171 lbs, I"m so relieved!! Stupid sodium from processed foods! Secondly, I took pictures of my thrift store clothes yesterday for a blog today, and realized my body is finally starting to transition from an overweight body type to a healthy weight body type. It's about 12 lbs early, but given the amount of muscle on me and the fact that i switched from obese to overweight about 10-15 lbs early too, I think I'm really getting there. I'm starting to really like pics of me, and I included some comparisons to my once-thin self in my blog post today! Please help me celebrate!!

My Woo Hoo is a biggie - I rejoined Planet Fitness and worked out this morning! Yaaay! I feel a particular sense of accomplishment because :

1) I usually won't start exercising in the middle of the week; I tell myself that I will start on Monday. And then Monday comes and goes, I don't start like I had planned, and then I waste another week procrastinating...

2) This is my first week at my new job and I have a final exam next week that I am furiously studying for, but in spite of that I set the alarm for 5:30 AM, laid out my gym clothes last night, and went to the gym anyway this morning. I'm happy I made my health a priority over work and school!

Now, my next goal is to turn this into a regular habit!

I don't have a lot of specifics to woo hoo about today because some of my woo hoos are political and I won't post them here. However, my daughter gave me a couple good woo hoos this week by volunteering at both a local children's center and a politician's campaign headquarters. She also got a part-time position at the Family Justice Center. This will be great on her resume as she is a political science major with a minor in public administration. She will continue with her waitressing job as well as being a full time college student and mom to David. I'm feeling so positive and hopeful for her. Even with her full schedule, she is such a good mom and makes time for her little man. Once school is done and she begins her career she will be able to devote so much more of herself to him. For now I'm grateful that we can be there for her and him both. Just proud and full of WOO HOO HOO HOO optimism today! emoticon

p.s. Woo Hoo for staying in my ranges yesterday and showing no gain from my ugly binge the night before!

I have another Woohoo tonight! It doesn't get even close to MJ's woohoo (congrats again to PAWPAW-DON!!!), but we found a car tonight that we really love! We weren't expecting to, and this time we went to an honest dealership, and had a really nice experience, which we'll close out on tomorrow. I feel so much more positive about this purchase than the one in May. :)

My woo hoo moments for the day are that I've gotten in 90 minutes of exercise so far this week. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but considering I hadn't exercised in over a month that's a baby step I'm super proud of.

I also got a puppy who is teaching me to have a wealth of patience. I adopted her from the ADL and whomever had her before was abusive. She is super shy and scared. She jumps if I make a sudden move, like getting up off the couch, she cowers away when I call to her, etc. But she's so sweet and loving, so we're hoping she'll eventually come around.

Considering the mess that's going on with my car, it's hard to think of a woohoo for today, but I do have one. I haven't lost any weight since I began this weight-lifting program, but I *have* lost a full inch EACH from my waist, belly button, and lower waist. I haven't lost any inches in any of these three places since April. So apparently the program is doing SOMETHING, even if it's not translating to pounds lost. Also, I managed not to binge when I was so angry yesterday about the car. I've never managed to stop eating while angry before, so that's a HUGE step for me!

Proud of you, TaMara!

I'm not too woo hoo hooey today, but I'm looking for the postives...one of them being that other than the pain of the injection sites my back isn't really hurting too much which might mean that I'll get the relief I've been seeking. So emoticon for that. We'll know for sure on Saturday when I attempt 7 - 7.5 miles again!

The not too woo-hoo is that I have had a pretty strong headache and nausea since the procedure yesterday. Waiting on a call from the nurse to see if Dr wants me to come in for blood patching as I might have a spinal fluid leak in one of the puncture sites. I never heard of blood patching so I looked it up and not happy at all: An epidural blood patch is a surgical procedure that uses autologous blood in order to close one or many holes in the dura mater of the spinal cord, usually as a result of a previous lumbar puncture. The procedure can be used to relieve post dural puncture headaches caused by lumbar puncture (spinal tap). A small amount of the patient's blood is injected into the epidural space near the site of the original puncture; the resulting blood clot then "patches" the meningeal leak.

So emoticon for modern medicine having a fix for this and woo hoo for possible major pain relief even if I do have to have that procedure listed above. I get to have more lumbar injections and hip injections in 3 weeks.

This is more my week's woohoo rather than today's, but I'm happy to begin this new weight-lifting program!! Also, I love that I found a whey protein powder that I like, and that I can add a serving of fruit and a serving of veggies to my protein shake! Great way to get in extra freggies! Also - I'm no longer dizzy and weak today, as I have been for the last 36 hours or so, so emoticon

I've seen lots of DIY crafts on Pinterest that I wanted to make and I've been knocking them off the list. Last week I made us coasters and a key hook, and today I made a Halloween wreath. I love crafting and I'm really excited to tackle projects that I've wanted to do for ages!!

I finally called maintence to have them come and take two seconds to fix our dishwasher! I know, I should have called earlier, but they're like the cable company. You never know when they're going to come and how long it's going to take. I just haven't had time to sit around and wait for them to get to me. Either way, my hands are happy to not have to wash dishes anymore!!

Neither of those are weight related, but they both made my day so WOO HOO!!

Ooh I love that feeling MJ!! I can't wait to start planning my NaNoWriMo novel this year!! :D

My woohoo today is that Jason and I have bought a weight bench, with a barbell and weights, and a few other things I need to make a home gym for some serious strength training. We looked into getting a home gym machine - one of those many-in-one deals - but all the ones at each Academy we visited were broken to bits and the sales guys couldn't even finish whole complete sentences, but trailed off into nothingness whenever we asked a question, and they didn't have any good ones at Sports Authority. So we settled with a weight bench. We've been rearranging our room and such to get ready to bring it in! :D

emoticon Not weight related....or maybe it is....all I know is that this was a major boon to my feeling of health and well being!

Last night I made the first steps in writing my latest book. I have one completed, edited, and ready for publication written more than 10 years ago, but it is a highly personal accounting of a fairly tragic time in my life and I promised myself to wait until I, and others this book involves, are much older before getting it published. I had several offers from publishing houses, but I just wasn't ready. I might never be, for that matter, but that is okay. It was a book I NEEDED to write.

Anyway, I wrote the basic outline of my newest book, which of course will be revised, revised, and revised again. Then I wrote the introduction and the first two pages. I stopped writing with the same excitement and feeling of "this is right" I have had in the past when I know I've done well. It's been a long time since I had that feeling. I tingled. I smiled. I felt wrung out! Whether you write for your own enjoyment or for compensation, you know that is a good feeling. I anticipate that this project will take me anywhere from 6 months to a year to complete. It will take that long not because I am a slow writer, but because it is a book about growth and I am growing right along with it. That makes sense to me, if not to anyone else! Anyway, I still have that WOO HOO feeling this morning and wanted to share.

I'm very happy to hear about the weight starting to move downward again, Amanda. I'm pretty bummed to hear you might not being doing the half sparkathon, though. I hope whatever it is gets resolved fast but of course you have to listen to your body and your own good sense. Hope your night is better tonight!

Well, I had a really rough night, and have had to change around some of my exercise plans - I might even have to withdraw from the half sparkathon if something doesn't change in my body soon, boo! - but I do have one good woohoo for today: I'm finally down to 167.3 lbs, the scale has moved downwards for the first time in over 8 weeks! I hope to be down to 167 by this weekend. My original summer goal was to be at 165 by the end of August, and I know that's not going to happen, but considering I had to take 8 weeks off, I'm just glad that I managed to stay at 168 all that time!

My Woo Hoo moment is kinda big...for me. It was a realization of two things:

1) I am stronger. I carried in all of my groceries (2 weeks worth plus cleaning supplies) without getting winded or sweating profusely. That NEVER happens.

2) I don't care for greasy, salty food AT ALL anymore. I cheated, or attempted to cheat, big time today. I skipped breakfast (first no-no) and went shopping at lunch time. I had to resist the urge to buy stuff that wasn't good for me. I stuck to my list and only bought things that weren't on the list if they were whole foods and on sale. Then as I was pulling out of the grocery store my stomach rumbled. What did I do? I pulled into the other end of the parking lot and went through McDonald's drive-thru, ordering a Big Mac meal! Yeah...I know!
I got home and forced myself to put away the perishables first. I was sooo hungry! Then I sat down to my lunch. I got two bites into the burger and ate 3 fries when I realized I was not enjoying the meal at all. It was GROSS! Salty and fatty tasting - artificial tasting even. I dumped it without even taking a drink of the coke I ordered and grabbed some salad greens, tomatoes, cheese, and olive oil vinagrette and ate a HUGE salad with a bottle of water and lemon. Then I treated myself with a toasted slice of whole wheat 9 grain bread with a little peanut butter and honey on it. So emoticon for whole foods teaching me what good food is SUPPOSED to taste like!

Tamara, you must be doing something right, and you are using some energy to get all that cleaning done. Keep up that clean eating!

My WooHoo for today came last night in the form of compliments:
First, during the warmup for Muy Thai Kickboxing last night, a grueling set of exercises, my sensei asked the entire class to watch me, because I was the only one doing the one exercise correctly.
Second, after kickboxing class, two friends came up to me and said they were watching me and I was kicking butt! That said I looked really polished I during my combos.

My woo hoo moment(s) for the day is:
*I'm almost already done with house cleaning for the day. I have a load in the washer and then I'm done. I've been doing better about trying to keep up with things and not letting them get out of control.
*I have been horrible about exercise lately for some reason! I can't seem to make myself do it, but I've lost a couple pounds which tells me that my eating has been spot on. Lots of freggies and less processed food seems to be working for me!

My woo hoo moment is that I have set new goals for the next 4 months!! I've done well at monthly goals, but I find it hard at the end of the month to stay consistent! I already eat pretty healthy, but I've got a plan to bump it up a notch and take things to the next level by pushing out more "healthy" processed food out of our diets!

Some incredible things to celebrate today! WooHoo to everyone!
My WooHoo is simply that it is a new month and I am thinking about my goals and plans for this month. Lots of things happening for me this month, and I will not let distractions get me off track.

Amanda: I just know this news will prove out once you see the doctor when you come home. Cannot wait to see you back in the game in your true form!

Neil! Welcome back, buddy! Was wondering where you disappeared to.

Erin - Woo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo! I think you are going to own August and not let the start of school be your excuse. Instead, you will use it as proof of your determination!

My Woo Hoo today is that I did my first day of She Beast Boot Camp and OWNED IT. Okay, I only did two pushups in the required time, but I did them correctly! My plank needs a LOT of work. I laid on the mat on the floor about 3 or 4 minutes afterwards; I was THAT worn out. I kicked my own butt! emoticon

*edit* Second Woo Hoo! for the day! I was kind of down about not losing much weight in the last couple weeks of July. I'm still at 10 pounds gone in two months, but the scale hasn't moved for a while. I take measurements on the 1st of each month and got a happy surprise - I lost 5 inches this month! Unfortunately, I did gain 1 inch in my upper arm (the part of my body I love the least) but I guess the fat hasn't vacated where the muscle has moved in yet. All in good time, I guess. Happy about the 5 inches gone, though! 1/2 inch off my neck, 1/2 inch off my calf (I only measure 1 of each limb), an inch off my waistline, an inch off my hips, and 2 inches off of my chest (very odd!). Thighs stayed the same but the muscles are definitely there so some of the fat is gone! emoticon

My Woo Hoo comes in the form of surviving the storms that came upon me (the last few months) with enough left in the tank to come back and give it my all.

No retreat, no surrender!!!

I'm still on vacation, but I'm up early this morning and in my designated room, and I figured I might as well tell you guys my biggest WOOHOO of the moment. Last Friday, I saw a Sports orthopedic doctor, who took new xrays of my leg. First xrays I've had since June 6th, so this is after 7 weeks of no running, and about 5 weeks of no walking, elliptical, or even standing for extended periods of time. He didn't show me the xrays during my appointment, but said he didn't think I had a stress fracture based on what he saw and some poking around that he did on my leg itself. He scheduled an MRI for the day I get back from vacation, so we can see if there's anything happening with the ligaments/muscle/etc, because there's still definitely something wrong with my leg, considering my knee faces one direction and my foot the opposite. I'm still confined to upper body exercises while I'm on vacation. However, I made his office give me a copy of the xrays. They, of course, only run on a PC through a special imaging program, and I only have Macs at home, so I brought the xrays up north to show my father-in-law, who is a PA. We just looked at them last night, and THERE IS NO MORE SWELLING AT ALL on my fibula! There's a tiny bit of healing stuff still on the side of the bone, a very thin layer, but otherwise, it all looks in perfect condition!!! My FIL says it looks like it's healed. Of course, I'm still sticking with doctor's orders until the MRI and follow-up visit, but this is more than I could have hoped for. I hope I'll be cleared to walk in the next few weeks, and can get on with my weight loss from there. July was very frustrating. I didn't lose an ounce and because I was forced to sit around constantly, I suffered a lot from depression and other symptoms. I still can't do anything high impact for awhile, but I am looking forward to just walking so badly, and seeing those xrays late last night was just a beacon of hope for me. :D I had to come share, even if I'm on vacation!

Jennifer I don't know what area of town you live in but Bridal Connection at Rolling Oaks Mall has a pretty good selection of formals, as does Macy's better dress department. There is also Eduardo's on San Pedro near the old Central Park Mall. Also Alfred Angelo Bridals has a lot of gorgeous dresses that would serve you for a formal occasion. They have one on NW Loop 410 and one on IH10 near the colonnade, I believe. I'm up to my ears in places to shop for bridesmaid dresses with a family wedding happening in 9 months so I have seen a lot of dress shops lately. I have tons more if you need to know!

My emoticon for today is that I get to go dress shopping for a formal and I am actually looking forward to trying them on! My last formal dress was a 16, and I'll be more like a 6-8 this time!

I'm blessed, thrilled, and so grateful to be able to celebrate my dad's 78th birthday with him and family today. Every good day we get with him is a gift. He's the strongest man I've ever known and I pray hard all of the time that he is able to stay at least as healthy as he is right now. His battle with cancer and ITP is still going on, but he does a lot to stay positive and fight for a longer, healthier life. He's a great example for us all! Woo Hoo!

I have two WooHoos today!
First, two of my three kiddos are away for the night, so it's just me and my youngest for a bit. A nice break for me.
Second, I am excited about the Jiu Jitsu seminar I am attending tonight. I normally study a Japanese form, but this will be Brazillian. So many new things to learn! Plus a crazy tough 2-hour workout.
