I posted a pic of my recycled flower swing on my blog! If you get a chance - go see!

Weight lifting day - Woohoo!

Just finished Jillians 30 Day, level 3 - Ouch! Those travelling push ups hurt (they really hurt later when you are trying to pull a top over your head - I found that out this weekend - lol!)

30 Day Shred done! 2 1/2 mile outdoor walk - done!

Over the weekend we found 4lbs of mushrooms!!!! WooHoo! That was my meal for an entire day and it was fabulous! We hiked a lot this weekend and I planted flowers and tomatoes everywhere! I love seeing all the color all around my home!

Now, I'm going to lift weights

I'm drinking the Dr. Oz strawberry/cinnamon drink and it's very yummy and the veggie broth really does curb my appetite. I've noticed I'm not craving certain foods any more - Yay Me!!

Enoy your day everyone!

I passed out last night real quick - lol! the exercise regime I did yesterday took it's toll. This morning, I did Jillian's 30 Day Shred dvd before I started making a huge broth from a Dr. Oz special - if you all go look at my blog

www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
ur
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=5684843

I posted the recipe and the link. Anything involving lots of water - as you all know, grabs my attention. He also did a smoothie recipe on the show that started with 1 ltr of water - now I'm not seeing the recipe on his site but I copied it down from heart and it was just a couple things including cinnamon which was very important in the recipe. See my blog posting on it. Now, I'm going to inhale my lavender/vanilla fragrance oil and I'm going to do Reebok step aerobics and then try this broth that is cooking. Fingers crossed!!!

Enjoy your day everyone!

I went hiking this morning looking for mushrooms - spent 1 1/2 hours out there climbing up and down the hills and got soaking wet due to everything being wet from rain last night. Found a few to add to our growing stash in the fridge, because we went out for 2 hours yesterday evening and found a few- will go again after work. Just finished working out to Jillian's 30 Day Shred and Wow! that feels great! Now, going walking - then to work and mushroom hunting after work

Wow! Busy, busy, busy! Sunday, we went to Turkey Run State Park and hiked the beautiful trails for 2 hours - then stopped at their Inn for lunch which had a salad bar so we were very happy about that.

We have been working on the yard due to branches falling so we're piling wood for next year. I planted several pots of herbs and cascading petunias over the weekend - we carried them all in to the garage this morning before we headed to work, in case we get a cold streak later tonight. But it will be back in the 70's in 2 days so I'm not worried. Then I will plant a few tomatoes.

Yesterday, after work, I crawled under the house - we hate crawl spaces! and helped Jim pull out old insulation as we're having them come spray new in soon. We are selling this house and moving in to the one we own next door which is on 8 acres and a corner - it was Jims parents home and was built for his late aunt in the 30's - it's a beautiful spanish tile roof home with spanish tile floors in 9 of the rooms. We are going to fix it up - live in it long enough for IRS not to tax us heavily when we sell it and then we're going to sell it. We've decided we like one level with a basement and that house is 4 levels and there is no way we can work on that spanish tile roof due to the many levels of it - we'd have to hire someone and Jim does not like doing that because he is very handy and loves repairing all home and car projects. So, after 3 hours of crawling under the house (just me - Jim did it for like 8) and pulling everything out and bagging it - we were soooo exhausted last night.

Today, I did my Leslie 4 mile power walk and right now I'm having my watermelon/cranberry/mint infusion water and feeling good but not interested in doing anything else. When I get off work - I'm making soup and wrapping a blanket around me while watching a movie - Jim says that sounds good - he wants to do nothing when he gets home also. LOL!

I'm very impressed with how Jim finishes any project he starts and he can't put it down until he is done. I lose power after several hours. Imagine my 6'4" man crawling around under a home that has a crawl space of about 2' high Wow! I was shocked once I got down there to help him and realized what he had been doing for 2 days straight. I said, "we are definitely selling cause you aren't doing this anymore - or anything under here, anymore"

Looking forward to the weekend and it's only Tues. LOL! emoticon

I was wrestling with my son several weeks ago and heard my knee pop and getting up was super painful - so much for showing him how I could keep up with him. "I can't" So, after many weeks of doing different exercises to build my knee up again, I'm finally back to walking more but I'm afraid to do planks or jumping jacks.
emoticon
emoticon
The good news is I'm back to doing my extra walking outside and on dvds again - I had to go super slow the past few weeks and not do anything extra that involved knee bends - couldn't even get off the floor properly. However, I was able to lift weights and do situps/leg lifts like you do for yoga. emoticon

I wish we had a Y near us - I'd love to go swimming - it's the best exercises for us "older" folks. emoticon

Appreciate your feet and legs Everyone!

Does anyone know how to train to be able to do the pushup position with your legs elevated that is pictured on page 18-19 of the january 2012 issue of oxygen? It is a wierd goal of mine, I thought my pushup strength was pretty good until I tried even getting into this position. Any tips? emoticon Like this emoticon BUT with your legs out parrellel to the ground not resting on anything! Your arms are bent in though with elbows near ribs. I would love to be able to master it.

Happy New Year everyone! make it a great one! Re-starting Jamie Eason's 12 Week Challenge on Monday. The first time I started there was not enough time in the day with the kids basketball schedules and all, but now that the regular season is starting and the tournaments are done I have more time.

Hey, just popping in to say hi. I understand this is a daily conversation topic. I don't blog much at all but thought I would tell you I just got back from an amazing bike ride! Just over 20 miles which I have not done for soooo long! I loved just watching the scenery go by! Anyway, if you are somewhere where you can get outside whether it is deep snow or summery I encourage you to get out today! It will make everything look better in your day! Have a happy one! emoticon

Yipee Dec 12 just got my January issue --
haven't looked at it yet -- will in a few minutes when i go to bed..
been preoccupied trying to find what i need to do to reverse my diagnoses from dr. today
said i am 0.1 point away from being diabetic ! eek !
he said do you want me to send you to classes i said no
then i said so i eat like a rabbit
he said yes -- no bread, no sugars, no pasta, no potatoes..

great???? -- well after doing research on here about guidelines of what can eat -- I figure it comes down to following a low GI diet and exercise (argg) ... and portion control ..
sighs -- dog gone family genes?? grrrr
it's really annnoying me ---
okay enough bantering .. gotta read my Oxygen :)

After a trip to Tampa for a wedding and a trip to NYC for an engagement party plus all the weekends of football my body just isn't as tight as I like it. I'm going on a DIET (yes, the dreaded 4 letter word) until Thanksgiving and I wanna keep it together with healthy eating on Thanksgiving Day as well. There are no abs in site and that needs to change.

I know the best time of the year for me to be on my best behavior is Jan - April because those are the "dark months" here in Boston where everyone is just sick of winter and there's nothing cool going on like football or holidays. so I tend to stay home a lot more and spend all my free time doing hot yoga to stay warm! so im going to compete again in april!!!

Good advice there! In the summer I always struggle with weight gain because we BBQ a lot, and then the beer or wine comes out. As my husband and I don't have much other time together the rest of the year, we tend to sit there and have several drinks over conversation though the evening, add to that eating and not checking the portion size, and it's the worst time for me. Fall thankfully is usually my time to get back at it.

So where is everyone these days?

I just picked up the November issue as I didn't have a chance before and started going through it briefly. Looking forward to some reading time after my workout tonight.

I find that this time of the year is hardest for me with refined sugars. Not because of halloween candy ( I could care less) but because I have beer on the weekends while watching football and THAT sets off my sweet tooth the next couple of days. But if I stick on 2 - 3 fruits a day, early in the day, that helps me a ton! then i treat myself to a flavored seltzer water at night as a treat. just stick to the plan - dont get side tracked. always remember whats important!

Tattoo, I feel yah on the candy! One of my weaknesses as well.

But we will get it down some how! Good luck with the weigh in.

Enjoy life to the "nth" power! If you have goals and aspirations set forth to do them now. Life is too short. Like Nike says...."Just Do It"

Procrastination is not an option. Never say never. Tomorrow is not promised to us. Enjoy!! As my cousin says...."Do you"!!!

yay! there are finally people posting on here!! I freaking love Oxygen.

Congrats on your 2 pound loss!! Consistency is so key.

I wish I could give you husband advice. I live with my boyfriend and I cook every dinner, but luckily my boyfriend is a fitness fanatic too. he actually told me today he "feels fat because he had 3 mini Milky Way bars." hahahahaha He does eat junk like subs, endless amounts of bread, cookies, etc but he just eats what I make. But he does influence the menu because he loves having my stuffed chicken, cottage cheese bake, coconut/ walnut crusted buffalo tenders, turkey burgers... Can't you just tell him to not say anything until he tries it? Is your husband into fitness & working out? People can get VERY finicky when it comes to their food so NOT forcing the issue is often a safe bet. ooooh.. another "man food" healthy idea are bison burgers! its just like having hamburger but better!

And I agree about traveling where exercise is impossible - just let go! call it some recovery days. I love working out more than anything, but when I went to Vegas a cpl weeks ago I just let go. But getting back to those workouts is like the best feeling in the world!!!!!!!

nice "meeting" you ladies!!

Good for you on the loss! Well done!

I don't think anything would help with my husband's pickiness, as I said most of the time he actually likes the food, it's that he'll decide ahead of a meal he doesn't want it and then won't eat (kind of like a kid!?). He's been that way all the years I've known him and I'm not gonna change that, so I try to work around it. Just gets hard without cooking multiple meals.

Tonight I have a dinner meeting at a conference centre and I have no idea what is on the menu or how it is prepared. Its for a meeting for my professional association. I'm trying to be careful by eating a little more lightly during the day, although I'm feeling hungry. I will also see if there is a way to discreetly portion out my food on the plate and hopefully I won't be tempted to eat all of it and dessert too. At least with meeting meals the portions tend to be a little smaller than going to a restaurant.

Your meals/snacks sound great. I'm sure you will do fine! Good planning on your part.

I lost 2 pounds!

Have you seen Tosca Reno's Eat Clean for Men? Would that help...

I wish I had something good to say but I'm single and no kids....When I have been in relationships before and I'm eating clean i get very selfish...maybe that's why I'm single ha ha. But really I cook my meal for me..

I am working tomorrow and sat night shift so I bought a yam some broccoli and some chicken cooked it all up and stored it in the fridge..I have chobani plain yogurt, low fat cheese sticks, carrots, celery, and promax bar for something sweet, and some riccota cheese to have at night for dessert when I get home with splenda and cinnamon.

Now I pray and I really mean pray...please help me stick to my food plan..then in the mean time I am going to keep myself busy at work...If I have time for an unplanned snack...my plan will be to ask myself..who can I help right now, who can I make smile right now...idk for me having a plan and visualizing how I am going to get through work is really the tough stuff....

Whats for dinner tonight?

Eating clean is a challenge for me too. I mean I love the food and don't have an issue with not wanting to, it's trying to feel a fussy family and still eat clean that makes it hard. It's not my child that is the problem really though. She likes junkier stuff for lunch but she's ok with a nice clean meal in the evening...its the husband! No matter what I say I am going to make that would fit with a clean diet, he doesn't want it. Even if all I say is fish, chicken, pork, whatever, he sticks up his nose...even when it's something he actually likes! LOL

How did the weigh in go?

Hi all!

Cindy sometimes just letting go is the best way. Maybe the fact that you gave your muscle a break will give you more energy! I mean for me personally i get on edge when I dont work out and feel guilty if I dont work out. Having a plan is important for me even if the plan is NOT to work out.

I work 12 hour shifts and if I dont have any time i do one of the videos that are on spark..just to do something..I am at the beginning of my journey to defining my muscles so i am still learning. Cant wait to hear some more input!

I weigh in tomorrow so I will be on here a lot through the day to stick to my diet! I had a great workout this morning so now all I have to do is eat clean...ha ha that's all...so tough for me!

Have a great day!

Morning all,

Thanks for the morning inspiration Liz. Seems this thread is a little quiet lately. Not sure if that's normal as I just joined the group last week.

I was at a conference all weekend. Talk about turning routines upside down. I don't think I've ever sat as much and moved so little. It was a great conference, but absolutely no free time to go over to the gym next door. It was weird, as it was a Bally gym next to the hotel, but didn't open until 8 a.m., but then we had to be at breakfast to make the meetings for the morning. Between that and sharing a room I couldn't really work out. We were also in a suburban area and the conference had to shuttle us everywhere by bus, so we didn't even have the chance to walk to dinner or anything. It made it tough. I did try to be careful about how much food I consumed, and I limited alcoholic beverage to two at the reception and one at the dinner the next night. Overall I had a temporary gain of 1.5 lbs but getting back home it seemed to come back off...perhaps just fluids from the travel, etc.

In the interest of generating a little conversation, how do others handle situations where you just CANNOT workout, not even with bands in a hotel room, for two days and feel sluggish afterward? I kicked back into gear with my Irish Dance class last night and now feel motivated again.

Good Morning all! I have recently joined this team. I love oxygen magazine and eating clean. I have a really hard time sticking to it when I am at work. I have lost 3 lbs so far. I weigh myself tomorrow and I am hoping to see a down trend :)

I started lifting weights about 3 weeks ago and I am enjoying it. Today I am doing a station rotatation class. I also want to do a legs workout to go a long with it...I get stuck in this whole back and forth thinking should I do this or should I do that...

My goal for the next few months is finding a routine that works with my schedule. I am a RN and I work 3 12 hour shifts a week. Just got the off the couch oxygen and one of the women is an RN loved reading about her.

Ok everyone be diligent today!

Namaste,
LIz

Hi, I am new to this team. I am obsessed with the Oxygen Abs Special right now.....I've lost 7 Ibs in the past three weeks by just following the formula in the loose 20Ibs in 4 weeks plan. I have exercised, but not as much as required...so I am sure I would have lost more if I exercised more. So that is my goal right now. I would love to be down another 13 Ibs by the time the hubby sees me next (in just under a month - military) . I love the eat clean diet, it has changed my eating and drinking habits drastically.

I think it's all about doing what you need to do to make yourself healthy & happy. if I had to compete again I'd be miserable, thereby, unhappy. if running or zumba was the only way to make me fit, id be unhappy and thereby unhealthy. i think its so important to find something that you enjoy, otherwise you wont stick to it!

Hey everyone!!! I joined this group ages ago but never came to the message board or connected to anyone. I'm super active and I'm basically just looking to join a new group filled with active, fit minded gals!!!

I'm 30 years old. I live with my boyfriend who loves to workout too. I eat about 99% clean (the only time I go off is if I want to treat myself to a piece of cake of cookie.) I have competed, but don't care to do it again. Now I'm really focused on staying lean but getting stronger. I am a personal trainer and I love what I do!!! I'm just super motivated so I hope I found a good group. I figure that since this is a group for Oxygen readers, you guys are all probably as into it as I am!!!

I finally made the recipe in the March 2010 mag....The Postworkout Microwave Risotto made with arborio rice. The pic of course looked good so I was really hoping it wld tatse like it looked. I have been having bad luck with the clean eat desserts tasting bland and dry. emoticon

But this recipe was pretty tasty. I did add pepper to my own serving and it fills you up! It has that rice , corn, red onions and low-fat cheese in it and chicken. And even tho it says 4 servings, I think that it could feed a few more. This one is a keeper!

Also it is very quick to make! And is a one dish meal, just add another veggie and u r good to go! I added sauteed spinach. emoticon

I just checked out the website and the plan. too many gym-based exercises. I exercise at home and don't intend to join a gym--no time to go and where I am, they are not open during the hours that I prefer to work out. But it looks like a good program. i will definitely take some of the ideas and incorporate them into my workouts

Has anyone checked out Jamie Eason's 12 week LiveFit program on Bodybuilding.com? It looks pretty good! I'm starting tomorrow. However 4 weeks without cardio will be difficult. I love my mindless 45 minutes on the elliptical with my iPod. I also baked her Cinnamon Swirl Protein Bread and let me tell you it is delicious!! Check it out! I love Jamie Eason she is so inspiring.

Got the Clean Eating under control...
Now to get the exercising implimented everyday! It has been 100 to 109 too hot, ugh! So it's been sit ups and leg lifts in front of the TV, yoga by the pool in the mornings. I know I need to do more, but the heat is miserable. The good thing about the heat, I am not eating as much, eating alot of fruit and drinking alot of water!

Great goals, ladies! I have a few myself, with a goal deadline of end of summer:

* bike to work 10 times by August 31st
* do 25 on-the-knee pushups in a row
* do a 5K in June - jogging for 12 minutes of the total time
* hold front and side planks for 1 minute each
* try 20 new recipes by August 31st. (I tend to make variations of the same things over and over)
*reduce diet soda consumption to 2x per week only

All these supplemental books! I need to catch up. :)

As for a new challenge, I'm starting my conditioning before my half marathon training in a couple of weeks. I've decided to run the RnR Savannah Half Marathon. It's been 4 years since I've done one, but I really want a long term goal to keep pushing me forward and I think that this is it!

Every day is *the day.* Dream it. Live it. Love it.....with all your heart & soul.

Just picked up the Total Summer Body Plan, great little mag/book. I'm using the first workout "All Over Toning" as my basics workout while I get back into my routine after hurting my back and being sick.

On page 121 is a chapter about fitness challenges. I love putting my focus on what your body can do, not just focusing on what you look like.

Anyone have a fitness challenge they are working toward?

Enjoy life to the "nth" power! If you have goals and aspirations set forth to do them now. Life is too short. Like Nike says...."Just Do It"

Procrastination is not an option. Never say never. Tomorrow is not promised to us. Enjoy!! As my cousin says...."Do you"!!!

But I agree, I quit even trying those pills over a year ago and have had better results just changing my diet and working out more!

Pain is just weakness leaving the body.

I will promise to do my best. My best will vary from day to day, from hour to hour, from minute to minute. But in that minute, I will do the very best I can.

There is something similar called "Sprouts" it a cross between Trader Joes and Whole Foods. I sure miss Trader Joes!

I am doing the Vit B12 and it seems to be helping a great deal for the menopausal "fuzzy" brain that you get. I can really tell the difference! I am so glad becz I was so tired of forgetting stuff, it was really pissing me off! Much better since I started taking the B12. I bought mine from Trader Joes and it dissolves under ur tongue.

Isn't it great to have someplace to go and ask... I may try Vitamin B12 for energy and see how that works. I will report back when I start them.
