During my commute I'm listening to "A Course In Weight Loss" by Marianne Williamson again. [I think this is the 5th time] I get so much out of it every time I read it.

"Optimism is an act of bravery."

"Choices, not sacrifices."

I am going to re-start the Imagine a Woman book so that I can REALLY do the exercises in each chapter.
(How far have you gotten in the book? I had gotten about half-way with just reading and not doing the exercises, but I will re-start)

Yay! Hope you like it.

Pg 35 talks about conscious breathing. (While I was jogging/walking at the track this morning, I kept this in mind - doing deep belly breathing in through the nose out through the mouth). (Also, what popped into my mind was Forest Gump running! emoticon ha! ha!

I think you will like this book! As I was reading it today, I was thinking, This is something Reina would relate to or enjoy. I did read from one of your blogs that you were pagan, and the author of this book celebrates the female wisdom, and does mention pagan rites in history. So,yes, I think it is definitely pagan-friendly. Though I'm not pagan, I certainly can appreciate her message of loving and taking care of ourselves and bodies, and how she uses story and poem to celebrate the female. I like the book.

by the way - today is Summer Solstice! or first day of summer.

I ordered that book, Imagine a Woman, that you recommended.

I got a "very good" hard back copy for $6 for the book, shipping, tax, and everything.
It should be here sometime next week. =)

It sounds like a pagan book or at least pagan friendly. I can't wait to get it!! (did you know I'm pagan?)

Right now I am reading Picture Perfect Weight Loss, by Howard M. Shapiro. I like it a lot so far.

The book I just started is "Imagine a Woman in Love with Herself" by Patricia Lynn Reilly, (embracing your wisdom and wholeness).

It seems to go right with the theme of this team of Extreme Self Love.

I am still reading "Ultramind Solution" and I'll be starting up the 6-week plan to improve my brain function. I really feel I have brain fog (menopausal), and it's affecting everything - my energy, my concentration, my mood. I just feel like I'm operating only on 4 cylinders. I get excited about starting something, and then completely forget about it. My office really is disorganized. I just feel sub-par.
One of the main components to the program is eliminating high fructose corn syrup and sugar in any form, and eliminating hydrogenated trans fat.

I feel I need to use my day planner to keep up, but then forget to right the stuff down, or even to open it.
Another component of the plan is not to eat anything processed; that comes in a box, bag, etc., baked goods, things like that. (I have really been eating a lot of cookies this past week).

I am betting that I will post more often, and keep up with my Extreme Self Love actions, while my brain gets clear during this time.

Now that would be an interesting experiment -on suggestion #2:!
"get them to commit to "liking" something, then ask how it could be better."

I'll try it when I have the opportunity

The most recent chapter I read was about gettiong ppl to tell you the truth. It talked about how ppl will lie to 1) avoid hurting feelings or 2) avoid getting "caught".

The book's suggestions (which I haven't tried yet) were:
1. instead of confronting the person, because they will deny it, tell them about a similar incident that involves someone else ie. SuzieQ, I think someone at my other office is stealing office supplies. What would you do about it?

Then (supposedly) if SuzieQ is the one stealing, she will get uncomfortable and/or change the subject. If she is not stealing, she will then offer suggestions and be flattered that you asked her opinion.

2. get them to commit to "liking" something, then ask how it could be better.

Most of the time when we ask someone's opinion (Do you like my new dress?) they don't want to hurt your feelings so they say yes. Then our next comment is, "Do you REALLY like it?" and of course they are going to defend their answer.

The book suggests that instead, we say (after they say they like it) "What do you think would make it PERFECT?" and at that point, you will usually get their honest input.

I haven't tried either of these things, but I think they sound good and I do intend to, the next time an opportunity arises.

Talking less has been having positive affects. When I do talk, ppl listen to me more. I have been keeping silent about 3/4 of the time I have something to say and it is making what I do say seem much more important. I think I'll keep this tool in my bag. =)

ooooh that new book sounds fun and interesting!

Today my book talked about ppl listening to you--what it boiled down to was just talk less. That's hard for me, I am a chatty person and talk a lot (prolly too much) so I guess tomorrow I'll try to talk less and see what happens lol

okay, so I go into the kitchen and ask my husband,..tell me which smile is better - my regular smile or smile #2. He says, okay,....so I smile #1 and then smile #2. He says, do it again. And (here I can't keep from laughing). So, I smile #1 and then smile #2 - he says, welllll.....#2 looks a little forced, like you're trying a little too hard! emoticon

Thanks, Reina, it was a funny experiment! emoticon

(p.s. ...tomorrow, I think I'll go around smiling like the "village idiot"! and see what happens (ha! ha!) I thought that was so funny when I read it (ROL!)

New book: how to talk to anyone, 92 little tricks---"trick" number one: flooding smile
Don't walk around with a smile all the time like the village idiot, even if you are basically a happy person. Wait until you make eye contact with someone, then smile and make it a genuine smile that spreads to your eyes.

This sounds a little goofy but for real try it on your husband. Tell him this is smile one: then just smile regular. This is smile 2: then make eye contact and let the smile spread slowly over your face. Ask him which is better. Have him do both too, so you can see the difference. It's a profound difference!

I finished The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande.
I really liked this book. I am going to make checklists just so the act of marking them off keeps me focused and on track. Here is one paragraph that grabbed my attention that I could use in everyday settings for reminders to run my checklists: pg 99 (.......So the surgical director gave some lectures...explaining what this checklist thing was all about. He also did something curious: he designed a little metal tent with the phase "Cleared for Takeoff" and arranged for it to be placed in the surgical instruments kit. The metal tent was six inches long, just long enough to cover a scalpel, and the nurses were asked to set it over the scalpel when laying out the instrument case. This served as a reminder to run the checklist before making the incision.")

Another thing to add to my arsenal to keeping focused -I found this article about using Step Cards, index cards with checkoff lists set up for various routine tasks. www.brainbook.com/lau-steps_lessons.

The first chapter's tips came down to:
1. try to talk to ppl (that you are trying to make like you) when they are in a good mood
2. interact with them often
3. find the things you have in common and let them do most of the talking

I didn't find chapter one terribly insightful or helpful but maybe the book will improve.

I think it would be fun and useful if, when we find really pertinent advice, we make posts about it. That way we can learn from each other.

Another great Topic for the Team!

Reina, that sounds like an interesting book. I've seen the title before, but haven't looked into it.
Right now I am reading "The Checklist Manifesto, How to Get Things Right" by Atul Gawande.
I am reading this because I want to focus on using my day planner and being productive during the day, instead of letting things pile up and procrastinating. emoticon Making lists and marking them off!

I'm working on building up my confidence so I have a lot of that kind of book at the moment but what I am reading right now is called "Get Anyone to Do Anything" by David J. Lieberman. It's not that I want to be a control freak, I am just tired of ppl ignoring me and treating me with no respect, and these kinds of books are about developing leadership and charisma traits. I haven't actually started it yet and I hope it's good. I'll let you know tomorrow.
